Lindelea · 21 April 2014 · Chapter 33: A Quiet Evening

Nice respite. Not "calm before the storm" as they are in the middle of a Siberian Express. "Calm during"? I'm with Dreamflower -- imagining the Twins & Co. stuck out there in the blizzard somewhere. At least we know the Valar have plans of some sort. But maybe that's not so much comfort. (Odd, quirky sense of humour displayed here and there -- like the Shakespearean language thing when they arrived.) Hmmm. The cliff house sounds quite cosy. I can bring the incredible gluten-free chocolate cake that Youngest made. It was so rich, more than half of it is left. Take small pieces! The frosting alone ought to be called "Death by Chocolate". Looking forward to Glorfindel's wakening again.

Author's reply

I think "calm during" works, Lindelea. The Twins and Sarah are okay, I assure you, and will make it to Fairbanks safely. We'll be seeing them shortly. Still have some things to wrap up in Wiseman first. And I always say that death by chocolate is the only civilized way to go, so save me a piece. *grin* Thanks for reviewing. It's greatly appreciated.

Kevana · 21 April 2014 · Chapter 33: A Quiet Evening

What a nice and cozy chapter, makes me want to curl up somewhere and listen to storytelling! It really is sad that the Elves back in the old folks' home are so downhearted. And since the last ice age? That's an awfully long time to be stagnant, even for Elves. The Valar need to drag the worst of the bunch to Wiseman and toss them into the mix. Terrible idea? Possibly! But I can't help but think that getting thrown headlong into a bunch of Mortals - who, of course, know all about staring down an uncertain, frightening, confusing...er...deadline – would be good for them. I dunno, I'm just the polar opposite of apathetic and it makes me especially sad to see them succumbing to that. It's good Finrod had a chance to relax before going back to deal with the situation, whatever the cause of the storm it came at the perfect time. And let me guess, Nick had to remind him that even if he could get to the store, his customers probably couldn't? *grin* Upset Elven Daddies are probably not people you want to cross. I think Sarah and Co. better check in pretty soon! Still, I definitely would love to see Finrod in Fairbanks to see what he makes of a bigger city. Huh, I think that's close to where my cousin lives. Hope you and everyone had a beautiful Easter! I will gladly join everyone in the cliffside house, I will bring some fresh-baked bread and homemade honey butter and my famous dark chocolate and peppermint cream shortbread bars. ;) I am secretly an awesome baker. Shhh, don't tell. And some local muscadine wine and non-alcoholic juice. <3 Is that good enough to get me in the door? LOL! Lots of good wishes! Take care. -Kevana PS - You have got to see this. I laughed myself silly. Click in order. (One) (Two) (Three)

Author's reply

I think you're right, Kevana. The Valar should set up sanatoriums for the clinically depressed Elves and staff them with no-nonsense Mortals who have no time for elven pity-parties. That would shake things up, wouldn't it? LOL! We may yet see Finrod in Fairbanks, but he shouldn't go without his gwador to show him around. You may be able to get in the door with all those goodies, Kevana, but I doubt you'll be able to get out, you or anyone else. LOL! Anyway, thanks for reviewing. It's always appreciated. Author Reply: Oh, and thanks for the link. Absolutely love it! LOL!

Dreamflower · 21 April 2014 · Chapter 33: A Quiet Evening

I'm glad that they did get a chance of a quiet evening talking and relaxing--it was needed. I'm turning paranoid when it comes to this story--I suspect nearly everything that happens. Now I'm suspicious of the timing of the storm, and find myself anticipating all sorts of complications from it! (This is, BTW, a good thing as it means I am really into the story!) (I am also re-reading the first "Elf Academy" on my Nook, and getting my memory refreshed on how all this started.)

Author's reply

Sometimes a storm is just a storm, Dreamflower, especially in that part of the world in winter, though who is to say that the Valar, or at least Manwë and Ulmo working together, haven't had a hand in it? Enjoy your re-read of the first Elf Academy. There's a blizzard in that one, too, but that was definitely Valar-inspired. *grin* Thanks for commenting. It's much appreciated.

Oops, just noted that Rikki is bringing strawberries, I'll bring the shortcakes and the whipped cream. Have we figured out who is sleeping where yet? Gets settled in chair, fastens seatbelt, turns on tablet and starts reading E.I. II for the umpteenth time! More Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

With all the goodies people are bringing to the cliff house, no one's going to be able to get out the door. LOL! Enjoy your read.

6336 · 21 April 2014 · Chapter 33: A Quiet Evening

Ah, a nice quiet, peaceful chapter, just what we need after the wild ride we have been on! Looks around for seat belt, I have a feeling that this was the calm before the storm, knowing how you work, oh, Cliffee King! I would think the Valar are more than a little worried at the lack of enthusiasm for life among the Elves of Aman. I can understand not wanting to have children during a time of war, but the Eldar are not at war, not yet anyway! They need to get up off their collective thumbs and get on with life! I am off for the next two weeks, Dr.s visit today and the dentist on Thursday, but next week is clear. Hope you had a pleasant Easter. Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. We'll be quiet for the next couple of chapters. The next roller coaster isn't due until later next week. *grin* I'm sure the Valar have been very worried about the attitude of the majority of the Elves in Aman of late, but you can't force people to be happy or hopeful. I'm sure they've been doing their best to inspire the Elves toward estel and perhaps allowing some of them to return to Middle-earth to help with the Wiseman Elves will help spark a renewed interest in life if the Valar are keeping everyone informed through their Maiar. Certainly, they need to get up and get doing with a war looming on the horizon. I had a pleasant Easter, thank you, and I hope yours was equally pleasant. Enjoy your two weeks off. Thanks for reviewing. Hugs back.

Sunny · 21 April 2014 · Chapter 33: A Quiet Evening

Nice, quiet chapter - which means that you're probably setting us up for another nail-chewing ride in the next one! :-p So Finrod was once rescued by a Mortal from a snowstorm? It might be amusing to get that story - and also maybe something about how Glorfindel tackled having his parents reborn.

Author's reply

Hi Sunny. Well, things will start hopping, but not immediately, so you can sit back and take a breather for the next couple of weeks. Perhaps Finrod's story (or Glorfindel's) will be told someday. You never know. I've actually wanted to write a multichapter Finrod in Beleriand story for ages but have been sidetracked with Elf Academy. Anyway, thanks for reviewing. I very much appreciate it.

rikki · 21 April 2014 · Chapter 33: A Quiet Evening

This was a quiet evening, as the title states, in action, but it was busy with lots of information about what was behind things happening in the last chapter. First off was Amroth's comment that the new babies would have mortal names. This definitely makes them more assemilated into the current society their parents are living in. Also the fact that no children have been born since the last ice age is very sad. Even though elves are immortal, it must get rather sad when there is no young ones to drive one crazy. I liked that Finrod was behind Kyle keeping all elves from Glorfindel. He is right in claiming kinship here and Glorfindel needs time to heal before he wakes up to the chaos that has become the norm in Wiseman. I wonder how that will affect the elves who have been serving as medics at the hospital. And now to find the twins and Sarah. I imagine they will call in soon to find out how Glorfindel is doing. Now back to the cliff. Everyone's comments on the story are interesting and sometimes point out things I have missed. I will bring strawberries to go with the rest of the goodies for everyone. Hope you had a wonderful weekend.

Author's reply

Hi rikki. It only makes sense to give the children mortal names, considering the legalities of the situation, which is, that these children will automatically be American citizens. All the other Wiseman Elves are naturalized citizens. And I imagine that Amroth and Nimrodel simply don't see themselves or their children ever returning to Aman. Finrod is smart to ban all the Elves from ICU. He recognizes that the Mortal medical personnel are better able to handle any crisis that might occur, though I'm sure if Kyle feels it necessary, he would call on the Elves for their help, but, except for Dan and Roy, the other healers have no real clue. We'll be seeing the Twins and Sarah soon enough, I promise. Just need to wrap up a few things here in Wiseman before we head off to Fairbanks. Thanks for leaving a comment. I appreciate it very much.

UTfrog · 21 April 2014 · Chapter 33: A Quiet Evening

Lovely portrait of a simple gathering of friends. Everyone needed a rest. Glad to hear Glorfindel is better. Don't really care if Eanur heals quickly or not. He still needs a huge attitude adjustment. Thanks.

Author's reply

I'm glad you enjoyed this quiet interlude among friends, UTfrog. I think we all deserved a breather after the last few chapters. We'll have a couple more quiet chapters to enjoy before things start heating up again. Thanks for reviewing. It's appreciated.

obsidianj · 19 April 2014 · Chapter 32: Vorondur’s Very Bad Day

Poor Vorondur! That was really a rotten day, but at least his wife is on his side. I loved that Finrod was running through the snow storm to get away from the temptation to wring some necks himself. I got the feeling in the last chapter that Vorondur beat him to doing violence himself. The discussion between Finrod and Vorondur about Vorondur not recognizing Finrod's authority was interesting and a new wrinkle for Finrod. So far, he probably thought the tension was about whether Glorfindel is leading them or he. Now Finrod learns that Vorondur is his own man and will follow of his own choice or not. Interesting. I loved the casual way that Kyle dropped the bomb about Glorfindel slipping his leash. That was too funny.

Author's reply

The day can't be too rotten if your wife (or significant other) is on your side. *grin* The discussion between Finrod and Vorondur was actually very important because what applies to Vorondur also applies to every other Wiseman Elf. They all willingly gave up whatever rights they might be able to claim as subjects to one of the elvish Crowns, as well as any titles they might have had when they became US citizens, including Glorfindel and the Twins. That is a reality that Finrod and the others need to understand and accept. And Kyle had no way of knowing what a bombshell he dropped when he mentioned Glorfindel slipping his leash. I'm sure Finrod had some hard words to say to Mir and Ernie when he saw them later, which is why he ended up at Ron and Amroth's place for dinner. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

obsidianj · 19 April 2014 · Chapter 31: Vorondur Loses His Cool

The title alone made me apprehensive. Vorondur is usually the voice of reason. When these types blow, it is bad. I was right. He blew up spectacularly. Luckily, Kyle was there to prevent the worst. I admit, I cheered Vorondur on at the beginning of the attack. Earnur was just too cavalier about his mistake. But when Vorondur couldn't get himself under control again, I got concerned. If Vorondur wouln'd have attacked, I think Finrod would have done something. When he got so dangerously calm, my alarm bells started ringing, and Vorondur's reaction was telling. I loved the description of the schoolbus episode. So lifelike ;-).

Author's reply

Hi obsidianj. Yeah, you have to watch out for the quiet ones. But, as you say, he was lucky Kyle was there to make sure things didn't get worse. And Finrod being dangerously calm is also not a good thing. Eärnur and Vardamir were not in a good place with those two. And I've been stuck behind too many school buses in my life NOT to put that in a story somewhere. Even Elves have to obey the rules of the road. *grin* Thanks for reviewing. It's greatly appreciated.

Monalex · 19 April 2014 · Chapter 32: Vorondur’s Very Bad Day

Hello Fiondil! You know it is good that I now have to change my starting place with: Poor Vorondur!! Instead of the lovely and much beloved Balrog-Slayer who thankfully is now in very good hands!! Really when Ron has a bad day he really has a bad day... poor ellon, but at least he acted responsible in trying to apologize to Earnur and then go and see how Glorfindel is doing... also totally love his wife!! All this time he was nervous about her reaction and she just tells him that he was remiss in not trying to strangle Vardamir too, hahaha. Before I didn't like Kyle, but he is growing on me!! Such a smart cookie and really he is right, it is better to be prepared and ready for bad situations. I am going to join that fan club the other reviewers mentioned, hahahaha. Now I want to see what will happen when Finrod and the other elves learn that they are not to go anywhere near Glorfindel or any other patient... it's not going to be a pretty sight. Really poor Finrod too!! To discover that the ones originating all the problems are the ones from Valinor, it must be pretty daunting to him... he will need all the help that he can get from the Wiseman Elves. Just curious... why don't they have the Valinorean Elves join a World Politics class?? Or a Political Philosophy class?? It would do them good to learn about the different forms of government the Mortals have, so that they can better understand their attitudes and those of the Wiseman Elves... just saying. Now I think I will also join the others on the cliff house, to await the next chapter... Great chapter as always! Monalex

Author's reply

Hi Monalex. It's nice when your spouse takes your side (for once). LOL! Kyle seems to be growing on a lot of readers. He's still an arrogant so-and-so, but he's not a fool and he's a dedicated doctor where the patient always comes before ego. You're right that Finrod and the others do need to take a civics class like people take who are working to become US citizens. Maybe Finrod will ask Daeron or Glorfindel about that and they can arrange for the Elves to attend such a class later on. It should help them get a handle on things. Thanks for leaving a review. It's appreciated.

6336 · 19 April 2014 · Chapter 32: Vorondur’s Very Bad Day

Oh, Ron did have a very bad, no good day didn't he! Yep, working with gang members and druggies would make keeping a hypo of fast acting tranks handy make sense. Kyle, under all that arrogance is one smart cookie, other wise he would not be in the position he is in. I wonder if it was Earnie's decision not to see Ron or was Mir going all protective on him. Now there are a couple of pig headed idiots I would like to see Namo have a chat with! I wonder how Namo feels about them, perhaps we should contact Meranwe about setting up an appointment for them? I don't think Holly was being a loyal wife per say, though I am sure she would have been there cheering him on, she was only agreeing with him that Ron and Mir had acted like idiots and one of the only ones so far other than Kyle and the Twins who have! Good to see Finrod coming down on Ron's side of the argument and it probably was a good idea for him to get out of the house for a time, I think there has been enough neck wringing going on for a while! I do hope Serende and the Twins enjoy their stay in Fairbanks and that the little surprise the Valar have in store for them is not too surprising. Have a Peace full and Joyous Easter, Huggs, Lynda

Author's reply

Hi Lynda. I think Námo would prefer the Elves to clean up their own messes without him interfering. Finrod is more than capable and when Glorfindel is recovered, he'll have more help in that respect. We'll see shortly what the Twins and Serindë are up to in Fairbanks and what has Námo and presumably the other Valar amused. May you have a Peace-full and Joyous Easter as well. Hugs back.

Lyana · 18 April 2014 · Chapter 32: Vorondur’s Very Bad Day

This chapter is chock full of goodies, but the thing that had me laughing was the way Ron came home and went right into the sympathy ploy. He's obviously learned something in a few dozen millenia of marriage - make her feel sorry for you, THEN drop the bomb! And Holly just rocks - friends help you move, real friends help you move bodies. Or so I've heard... :-) Finrod really does need to have a good crash course in US History and Civics so he understands citizenship and the way government works here and now. I could see him having a legitimate claim on those who just came from Valinor (at least until they become citizens - if they ever choose to do so), but certainly not on the Wiseman Elves, and I'm glad Ron started the conversation for him. I just about choked on my tea when I got to the part about Dr. Stoner's edict banning Elves from the ICU - I think we're going to have to start holding Kyle Stoner Fan Club meeting in our cliff side clubhouse!

Author's reply

Hi Lyana. Yeah, Ron's had a LONG time to learn that trick. LOL! And I've heard the same saying and it's very true. All the Valinórean Elves and not just Finrod need a crash course on US (and world) history and civics. It has to be strange to think that Elves would not hold allegiance to one crown or the other. Democracy is a new concept for them all. And you-all can hold Kyle Stoner Fan Club meetings all you want. I'm sure he would appreciate it. *grin* Thanks for reviewing. It's very much appreciated.

Sunny · 18 April 2014 · Chapter 32: Vorondur’s Very Bad Day

Small, snarky thought about Vardamir's little comment that if Eärnur had died from Ron's assault, Ron would have been a kinslayer. If Glorfindel had died from Vardamir and Eärnur screwing up his treatment, would they have seen themselves in that same light? BTW, here is a bit of music in honor of Ercassë in this chapter. :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05MImdJIrLo

Author's reply

LOL! Cute song and very true. And hypocrisy is not an exclusively mortal trait. Thanks for the link, Sunny. I'm sure all my other readers will enjoy it as well.

Soledad · 18 April 2014 · Chapter 32: Vorondur’s Very Bad Day

Drat, but those Valinórean fools never learn, do they? Aside from Finrod, that is. He took Ron's declaration of independence graciously enough. Loved Holly's reaction! That's a loyal wife if there was ever one. It would be good to learn what Serinde and the Twins are doing, though - and are Alex and Derek ever coming back?

Author's reply

Hi Soledad. Holly is indeed very loyal. We will learn very shortly what the Twins and Serindë are doing and we'll be seeing Alex and Derek soon enough as well, I promise. Thanks for reviewing. It's appreciated.

Legolin · 18 April 2014 · Chapter 32: Vorondur’s Very Bad Day

Poor Ron, his day was a total mess, but at least there were some amusing times. Loved the scene with the burnt-out neon signs, those can be hilarious. Tensions are rising and I fear that more drama is to come. Ron's right though, technically Finrod cannot dole out punishments anymore. This is going to be very interesting. ~Lin

Author's reply

Hi Lin. Yeah, Ron's day was a total mess and we've all had days like that to one degree or another. Glad you liked the burnt-out neon signs. They are a scream and some of them that I saw were very, very naughty so I couldn't mention them here. Anyway, you're right about more drama to come. Thanks for leaving a review. I greatly appreciate it.

Larner · 18 April 2014 · Chapter 32: Vorondur’s Very Bad Day

A good thing that Kyle is a trained medic, considering how he knocked Ron out. Mir and Earnie have some growing up to do now, and I rejoice that Finrod is out trying to mend the fences. As for the rest of the day--it's typical of a day gone bad!

Author's reply

Yeah, it's very typical. Been there, done that, and haven't we all? Kyle is way cool and one smart cookie. I'm sure Vorondur's estimation of him went up a couple of notches after this. Mir and Ernie do need an attitude adjustment. Maybe this incident will help straighten them out. Thanks for reviewing, Larner. Happy Easter.

FV_Whisper · 18 April 2014 · Chapter 32: Vorondur’s Very Bad Day

Poor Ron! When it rains, it pours! Knowing his luck, I hope he will not find out the toilet has decided to start malfunctioning at 4 in the morning like what happened to me a few weeks ago, it's just the thing that can happen after a bad day. At least Holly is an amazing wife, and mothers can be the worst when children are involved. So, that's how Kyle Stoner was just prepared for the situation in last chapter! "“You have four full-blooded elven healers at your beck and call, Kyle,” Vorondur pointed out. “Why don’t you use them as guinea pigs?”" Oww, good idea Ron, I'd love to see this happening! I can even see the Twins having their way out of that. Yes, to get a good baseline on elves, you will need some full-blooded elves *snickers* And now Kyle has banned all elves from Glorfindel's room, he really isn't taking any chances with one of them doing anything stupid again, right? The Unfortunate Burnt-Out Neon Signs is too funny! I hope Daeron and the others will manage at Edhellond, it seems now Glorfindel is out of the way for now, some of the Valinórean elves are making moves to get Finrod to lead them all. It's a good thing the later has enough common sense to understand he really needs the Wiseman elves to keep up with things! “I found I needed the exercise and it kept me from wringing a few necks.” *grins* I really hope Finrod isn't done with Vardamir and Eärnur yet! Finrod and Ron is interesting, Ron clearly is his own man now, and not taking anything from Finrod in that way. In regards to all the cliff-dwellers from last chapter's reviews, I wanted to say how I haven't had as much fun with reading the comment than I'd had for some time in this fandom. I'm wishing you all a Good Friday (in whatever way you want to take it, Gandalf offers some suggestions in the early pages of the Hobbit, or you can decide on something else ;) ) and and merry Easter! (hey, my spelling corrector knows 'Gandalf'. I already knew he recognized Sauron and Balrog. I like this thing ;) )

Author's reply

Hi FV_Whisper. My spell checker recognizes 'Elrond' for some reason but no one else. Go figure. Holly is funny and Kyle is too cool for his own good. There's an interesting dynamic going on between Finrod and Vorondur and we may see more of it as time goes on. Ron has progressed beyond the medieval mindset of the other Elves, even Finrod, and I think that's true for the other Wiseman Elves. They've lived too long among Mortals and have adopted mortal viewpoints about class and status (at least Western viewpoints). We will be seeing Finrod confronting not only Vardamir and Eärnur shortly but also Helyanwë. That particular conversation is well overdue and I know many readers are waiting for it. Anyway, I hope you are having a Good Friday as well (I love Gandalf's word play on 'good'; it's hysterical) and happy Easter! Thanks for reviewing. It's greatly appreciated.

Laer · 18 April 2014 · Chapter 32: Vorondur’s Very Bad Day

I have to laugh at Kyle. Let alone Vorondur volunteering the other elves to be guinea pigs for Kyle :) I kind of understand the attitude the other elves have...Kin slaying is not and will not ever be a good topic to them. But I know Vorondur did not mean anything evil by it. Well not what they think any way. He wanted to have his family safe and with him, and now his baby is gone. Finrod is starting to go with the flow, soon he will be acting like he has always been here. Well ok talking like he has.

Author's reply

Hi Laer. Well, what Vorondur says is true: Kyle does have 4 full-blooded healers at his beck and call; he might as well start with them before moving on to anyone else. And Finrod is, I think, finally finding his place here. Having to take over for Glorfindel has forced him to step up to the plate, so to speak. Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Ellie · 18 April 2014 · Chapter 32: Vorondur’s Very Bad Day

Hooray for blood-thirsty wives! I mean, it was nice of Holly to not be mad at Ron when he has had such a bad day. His day really has sucked, hasn't it? He was fortunate to find nice mortals though to help him out. Amroth is very nice, isn't he? I bet Finrod really did want to finish what Ron started in the bookstore once he found out about the leash-slipping fiasco. Receiving a hypodermic in the bookstore sounds like a bad euphemism for something...

Author's reply

Hi Ellie. Holly is funny here, isn't she? I don't think Ron expected this reaction from her. Finrod probably did want to finish what Ron started which is why he trekked across town in a blizzard in order to avoid succumbing to temptation. And I'm not even going to go near your last statement. That is way too loaded. LOL! Thanks for taking time to read and leave a review. I appreciate it very much.

Laer · 18 April 2014 · Chapter 31: Vorondur Loses His Cool

Yikes yikes and more yikes! Vorondur was almost a kin slayer. That would not have been a good thing at all. :( Sneaky Kyle having drugs for sharing. Glad that he stopped him before it was too late. That would have been a very bad thing. Now as for how the other elves are going to act...oh boy

Author's reply

Hi Laer. Yeah, Kyle is sneaky, but in a good way. We'll see how things progress from here. Thanks for reviewing. It's appreciated.

Dreamflower · 18 April 2014 · Chapter 32: Vorondur’s Very Bad Day

Poor Vorondur! He really did have a dreadful day! And yet it could have been worse; I hate to say it, but after what happened to Glorfindel, I was dreadfully suspicious of the Good Samaritans with their offer to jump his battery. I was tense all the time until they left, expecting them to kidnap him or maybe give him a beating as they had Glorfindel. My apologies to the nice fictional people for suspecting them! The burnt out signs were amusing. Sometimes a sign doesn't even need missing letters to be funny. All last summer I kept meaning to take a picture of the gas station sign that offered "Ethanol free snow cones". (My reaction every time I saw it was "well, I should hope so!") I now want to see what Finrod is going to say to the others. While it doesn't justify what Vorondur did, Earnur's arrogance had him pushing all the wrong buttons. His and Vardamir's certainty that what they did wasn't all that bad is beyond hubris. I'm wondering if perhaps they don't need a special visit just to them from Lord Irmo, to explain to them that they don't know everything there is to know. I'm getting increasingly antsy about the twins and Serinde; surely they would have at least phoned or texted her parents by now. Somehow Fairbanks is beginning to seem rather sinister.

Author's reply

Hi Dreamflower. I don't actually blame you for being suspicious of the mortals Ron encountered here. He could well have been the victim of a mugging as well, but luckily all the mortals he did meet were nice people and I'm sure he was very grateful for them. You're right about signs not needing to be missing letters to be funny. I always have to wonder when I see such signs if the person who created it really read what they had written, but apparently not. Newspaper headlines sometimes are like that when read literally. Anyway, we will see what happens when Finrod returns to Edhellond after the storm passes and we will shortly be seeing what the Twins and Serindë are doing and why they haven't contacted their families yet. Thanks for commenting. It's very much appreciated.

Arwen75 · 18 April 2014 · Chapter 32: Vorondur’s Very Bad Day

So glad I missed reading Mondays chapter and waited till today :) However this chapter has answered some questions and posed a few more. I can see Finrod is getting frustrated and angry with certain elves and their refusal to understand how things have to work in this day and age. Really enjoying this story even if I am commenting less than usual - having a 2 year old running around (6 months into adoption placement) does not make for being able to do much more than read half the time. But as always it is a great story and I am looking forward to Mondays instalment.

Author's reply

Hey Arwen! Good to hear from you. I'm glad to know that you are still reading and enjoying my stories, especially this one. Finrod is feeling all kinds of frustration right now, but walking across town in a blizzard apparently has helped calm him down somewhat. *grin* Congratulations and good luck with the adoption. 2-year-olds are a handful and a half so it's a miracle you even get a chance to sit and read, much less be able to leave a comment. Thanks for this one. I appreciate it very much.

Sunny · 18 April 2014 · Chapter 32: Vorondur’s Very Bad Day

Nice, quiet chapter - but I feel sorry for Ron. Murphy obviously decided to go after him with a vengeance! But does this mean that the nuke will go up in the next chapter? So Eärnur is sulking in his room and won't accept Ron's apology. I understand that Eärnur is upset - he was assaulted after all, and having lived most of his life in a very sheltered environment he would not be used to violence. But it was his and Vardamir's arrogance that sparked the assault, and it looks as if the same kind of arrogancce is endemic among the Valinorean Elves. Aldarion and Vardamir is directing their disdain at Ron here, but I wonder how they are treating the Wiseman Elves who still live in Edhellond? If they are that arrogant towards all of them, I guess there will be a general exodus while the locals find places to live elsewhere. Oh well, sufficient unto the day, and so on. It's good to see that Ron at least has his wife's support. Here he was worried about how she would react to him assaulting Eärnur, but she is even more bloodthirsty! And at least Finrod seems to be coming around, even to realizing that his former status as King of Nargothrond doesn't give him any special authority among the locals. Speaking of funny signs, there's one blogger who has a whole series of Church sign Epic Fails - very funny! http://www.patheos.com/blogs/christianpiatt/tag/epic-fail/

Author's reply

Hi Sunny. The god Murphy definitely had it in for Ron, that's for sure. I think that Vardamir is speaking for Eärnur here, as his physician, and so we don't really know if Eärnur himself wishes to see Ron or not. Ron is very lucky in Holly. And Finrod is not an idiot. I imagine when he got home after work and asked a few pointed questions, especially with regards to Glorfindel slipping his leash, he was not pleased with the answers he got and decided leaving was the smartest thing he could do. Funny signs. Thanks for the link and thanks for the review. It's much appreciated.

UTfrog · 18 April 2014 · Chapter 32: Vorondur’s Very Bad Day

Did you plan poor Ron's bad day on some you had yourself? I think we can all identify days we wish we had stayed in bed. Great chapter. The stresses on the elves are showing all over. I still think the Valar should not have sent poorly prepared representatives. Their lack of preparation makes a great story, but it is scary in concept. I loved the different strangers stopping to help Ron. Holly's response was spot on for a loyal wife. The stews sounds delicious. Hope you have a lovely Easter.

Well, living in central New York where the winters can be brutal, I've had my car not starting and needing a jump and I've had it hit black ice and skidded off the road into a ditch facing the opposite direction, though luckily it was in front of a farmhouse and the owner helped me to get the car back on the road, so I didn't have to wait for AAA. And you are constantly brushing the snow off your car. So, yeah, Ron's day is based on my own experiences and I'm sure many readers can relate and even tell their own winter stories. Anyway, the Elves' lack of preparation is a scary concept but fun to write about. And Holly is indeed a loyal wife. Thanks for reviewing, UTfrog. Have a happy Easter as well.
