GRRR!!!
Now that I've finally caught up with the story I have to wait like everyone else for the next chapter!!!
I'm glad Glorfindel's having a good time because I am freaking out over here. Several heart attacks, yow! and now I can't even skip ahead to see if he's going to be OK.
Very good chapter, Fiondil. Still enjoying the hell out of this.
The twins and Sarah really should be there when Glorfindel finally does wake up. I think they'll really regret it if they're not, I know he will be hurt if they're not. On the other hand, maybe Elrohir and Seriende can elope. Of course that would make everyone's heads explode.
I've been thinking a lot about what happened to Daeron before he was found by our heros (he's a great character BTW) for some reason. I bet he was found in some kind of brothel. Or maybe a slave to someone like Caligula or Tiberius (now those were some impressive perverts!). I just think that would certainly explain the tears and reticence to talk about it, even after all these years.
Well, I'm still rootin' for Glorfindel to dump Helyenwe and hookup with Mithrellas instead. C'mon everyone! GLOR AND MITH, GLOR AND MITH, GLOR AND MITH!!!
The Dude abides!
Love, Diana
Author's reply
Hi Diana. Glad to see you're all caught up. I doubt Roy and Sarah will elope, not this close to the wedding and all, but certainly people will be upset at their leaving as they have. Still, I think the need the space in which to calm down so they can deal with the situation rationally and without emotions getting in the way.
As for Daeron... even I don't know all the details of how Glorfindel and the Twins found him, but it was pretty grim. Perhaps we will learn something about it later, but I can't force him to tell me so we may only be left to wonder.
As for Glorfindel and Mithrellas getting together.... we'll have to see about that.
Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

The twins are going to Fairbanks... and Namo is amused. Let's see what comes of that. It was interesting to see it from Glorfindel's pov, disembodied as he is. Olorin should know to pay attention when on Glorfindel watch.
Author's reply
We will certainly see what comes of it in due time, obsidianj. And yes, Olórin should not have allowed himself to be distracted when on Glorfindel watch. I guess he was finding the sight of Kyle chewing out Mir and Ernie just too amusing and wasn't paying attention to anything else. *grin* Thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.

Woa! That was a roller-coaster ride. I could strangle Earnur and Vardamir. Who do they think they are? Especially, Earnur who was just warned by Finrod to take the twins seriously. What an arrogant pair they are. This chapter revealed how deep the rift between the elven groups are. I loved Kyle Stoner in this. He gave the pair of elven "doctors" a good and necessary chewing out. Poor Glorfindel. At least he was unconscious. I just hope some Maia is standing by to get him back. If he slipped his leash, God knows where he ended up.
Author's reply
You're not the only one who wants to strangle Vardamir and Eárnur, obsidianj. Kyle rocks, that's for sure. And we'll see in the next chapter who's keeping tabs on Glorfindel's wandering fëa. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Oh, but I'm glad that Olorin is the one on duty! He'd be most familiar to Glorfindel and should be seen as non-threatening.
So, the two Els are heading off on an unplanned sabbatical, eh? I look forward to seeing what the Valar have planned for them and Serinde!

Which is probably why Olórin was assigned to watch over him. And we'll see what the 2 Els and Serindë find in Fairbanks eventually, but not immediately. Thanks for reviewing, Larner. It's much appreciated.

Ah, it appears that our favorite Balrog Slayer is stubborn indeed, but not at all in the way I thought, slipping off to have adventures like that...naughty naughty elfling.
"I do so enjoy them. I like to see what can go wrong with them and then bring it up in conversation to the newlyweds six months later and watch them get all red in embarrassment. It’s such fun."
Oh? Did you do that only for particular Midsummer weddings, or for everyone you know, I wonder?
SO happy that we get to ah...step away from the action for a moment, even though the whole thing is terrifying when you think about what's phsyically happening in the scene. Though in truth, I'm more worried for the others than for Glorfindel, who'll won't be in a position to worry much about anything should 'the worst' happen, considering that it isn't anything he hasn't done before, and he'll be in safe hands (far safer, in fact, than those he would leave behind, who I suspect would fall to pieces without him). Speaking of which, what is the policy for ah...repeat visitors to Mandos? But I'm fairly confident he'll pull through, inflicting him on Namo again would be far too cruel.
So now we know where the lovebirds & co. ran off to. I admit, having been in a similar situation I can understand the impulse. By the sound kf it, what with Namo's "plans", they may come to regret it.
I will be very interested to see how much Glorfindel recalls of his little adventure when he wakes, the poor thing.
Author's reply
Hi Sarah. I'm sure Glorfindel did it for lots of weddings over the long millennia. He must've been to quite a few over the ages, I imagine.
And as far as I know, no one has dared to be a repeater to Mandos, mainly because they're too terrified of what Námo might do to them if they did show up on his doorstep a second time. "Mandos" doesn't mean "castle of custody" with the secondary meaning of "prison" for no reason.
As for the Twins and Serindë regretting running away, we'll just have to see, as we see just how much if anything Glorfindel remembers of his walkabout.
Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it very much.

*Oh, don’t worry about them, Námo said, his violet-white aura brightening toward blue with amusement. We have plans for them.*
Oh, sweet Jesus! Those poor Elves are doomed! Doomed, I tell you!
I wonder, though, what has distracted Olórin so much that he nearly missed Glorfindel slipping his leash.
Have I mentioned that you are evil, o King of all evil cliffies?
Author's reply
LOL! We'll just have to see just how doomed they are, Soledad. As for Olórin, he was obviously distracted by Kyle reaming out Vardamir and Eärnur, no doubt fascinated to see a Mortal read the riot act to the two Elves. He must have been quite amused by it all.

Ohhh... So that is what happens when Glorfindel slips his leash. Unfortunately, he is not remembering who and where he is, making things difficult for Olorin and Nano. Definitely not ready to join the universe yet. Hopefully Olorin will manage to keep Glorfindel in place this time.
And the twins and Seriende going to Fairbanks? I see whether others are saying they shouldn't run away. But I think I will take the other side here. Dan and Roy need space to regain their confidence and composure and right now removing themselves from the fighting might be the best solution. The fact the Valar have plans for the trio might not be soothing, but the twins and Seirende will survive and maybe be able to make the decisions that need to be made to best support Glorfindel and rest of the elves. Not making much sense I know, but I am a glass half full person and often think that adversities only make you stronger if you persevere.
I liked this chapter for the subtle humor going on and the conclusive way the Valar seem to have plans in progress. Probably the best people to appreciate that are going to be the reborns Finrod and Glorfindel.
Author's reply
Hi rikki. Yes, it's happened before, which is why the Valar gave him the ring, to help keep him grounded.
Dan and Roy certainly do need the space, though they could've just checked into one of the resorts in the area and still have all the space they needed. But I suppose going to Fairbanks will feel more like a definite break to them, so that they can step away from the situation emotionally as well as physically. That's what they need to do more than anything and going to Fairbanks should help.
I'm glad you enjoyed the subtle humor and the way the Valar have plans in progress. You're probably right that only the Reborn would appreciate that.
Thanks for reading and reviewing. It's greatly appreciated.

Running away is not the answer, even running away temporarily. You’d be better off staying here and dealing with whatever is going on.
Good advice, Loren! You ought to try a bit yourself. I understand it goes well with a little salt.
I was worried about the three going off to Fairbanks -- I seemed to remember some problem or danger with Alex staying in Fairbanks, but as I've read so quickly through so many chapters to catch up to this one, I might be thinking of a plot point elsewhere. But then it turns out to be some part in a Greater Plan. Of course.
Author's reply
Hi Lindelea. Yes, Alex going to Fairbanks and feeling uneasy probably had more to do with his troubles with Farrell than anything. This situation is entirely different. And, of course, where any of the Valar are concerned, there's always a Greater Plan. *grin*

Aww...poor Glorfindel! I'm glad Olorin was there, and even more glad that Lord Namo was his backup. That Elf really didn't want to go back to his body!
Why do I have a strong feeling that the twins' sudden impulse to go to Fairbanks may not entirely be all their own idea?
I know one thing: their departure like this is not going to sit will with certain Elves. For one thing, Serinde's parents won't be happy, and it wouldn't surprise me if they blame Vardamir and Earnur for this, instead of her fiancé and his brother.
Author's reply
Hi Dreamflower. You may be correct that the Twins' sudden impulse to go to Fairbanks might not be entirely their own idea, but neither are they being coerced into going. The Valar are merely taking advantage of the situation as we will see eventually.
And you're right that their departure will not sit well with many of the Elves, especially Serindë's parents and Finrod. We'll have to see how they react when they learn of it.

· Chapter 30: The Scene from Glorfindel’s Perspective
I see that Glorfindel is a talented guy - he manages to get into trouble while being flat on his back in the hospital. It no doubt has to do with being Reborn.
"A bored Reborn is a dangerous Reborn." Oh my yes!! This squared and cubed!!!
So the Twins have taken it on the lam, and have taken Sarah with them. Nobody is going to be happy about that, but who is going to be able to stop them? The only one who would have been able to rein them in is laid up in toe hospital, and is definitely not in a shape to go anywhere, having just barely avoided getting killed by one of his healers (accidentally, I admit that.) Vorondur might have been able to talk them out of leaving, but I see Elladan has convinced her to just leave a note instead of talking to her parents.
Things are tense before, but this might just be the straw that breaks the camel's back - I suspect the situation is going to go up like a nuke, with fallout everywhere, and the newbies just don't know the modern society well enough to be able to do cleanup.
So the Valar have plans for the Twins and Sarah, do they? I'm getting really worried. And don't the Twins have enough to deal with right now anyway?
Author's reply
Hi Sunny. I'm sure Glorfindel would agree with you there. LOL!
And no one is going to be very happy about the Twins, especially taking Sarah with them. She and Roy may be almost married, but "almost" isn't the same as "is", especially where conservative Elves are concerned. We'll see what the ramifications of them just leaving the way they have in the next few chapters as certain people learn about them leaving and why they did so.
As for the plans the Valar have for them... we'll just have to see what they are. Not all plans come with a warning label. *grin*

That is so cool seeing things from Glorfindel's disembodied perspective. This one of my favorite chapters in the story, I must admit. His love for the twins is very great and rules him even when he can't rule himself. I wonder if they understand just how much he cares for those two. The twins have been his sons longer than they have been Elrond's if you go by how long they have been in the care of each. Olorin is wonderful as usual and really should know better than to let his attention wander so that a wily spirit like Glorfindel's can escape. Poor Glorfindel!
Author's reply
Hi Ellie. It was fun to show this whole scene from 'the other side' so to speak and who better to show us than Glorfindel? This was a lot of fun to write. I doubt if the Twins really understand how much Glorfindel cares for them. Unless they're parents as well, I think it's hard for children to truly appreciate that depth of love that one can have for another, especially for one's child, whether of one's loins or adopted as Glorfindel as evidently adopted Dan and Roy.
And even a Maia like Olórin can get distracted. He was probably enjoying the show and perhaps remembering times earlier when he was last in Middle-earth and how certain Mortals acted around certain Elves.
Thanks for taking the time from your super-busy schedule to leave a review, Ellie. It's very much appreciated.

This might sound a bit anxious, but I actually could not wait today before I could turn on the computer to read!
Praises for how you managed to put actually a fair deal of humor in a chapter in such a dire situation.
A bored Reborn is a dangerous Reborn *snickers* And if that Reborn is Glorfindel, it counts twice I'd say! No wonder Olórin is having a hard time with him.
I've been waiting for Lord Námo to show up ever since Glorfindel got ino this mess, he saves the day nicely but he also convinces me more and more the Valar are having their own plans in this mess, and unfortunately for everyone involved, they like to make things uhmm, interesting before they come to an end.
So the Twins are slipping away huh? Glorfindel is right, running away is not a good thing, but sometimes it will help to take a break and look at things from a distance. In normal cases, that would be, not when the Valar have their own plans for them. Like I just said, they like things interesting, and Námo was just a bit too amused with them.
Author's reply
Hi FV_Whisper. Glorfindel certainly is a handful, in and out of body. LOL!
The Valar are definitely hip deep in it and wading even further out, one might say. We'll be seeing just what plans they have and just how long they've been in the making. More is going on than even the Elves truly suspect as we head for the endgame.
And an amused Námo is oft times a dangerous Námo. LOL!

Oh, Kiddos running away never solves anything and taking Serinde with you might not be the wisest thing you have ever done, not that I blame you. There needs to be some major attitude adjustments all round and what Finrod is going to say when he finds out...

Figured Namo would have to stuff him in, as you so elegantly put it. You would also think the twins would have learned by now about running away, but I do not blame them at all. It may be safer for others if they are out of the way briefly. Thanks.
Author's reply
Hi UTfrog. Well, Finrod did say that while a Maia can keep a fëa anchored in its hröa, it takes a Vala to get it back inside if it happens to get out. If Glorfindel had voluntarily gone back in that would've been one thing, but since he didn't, Námo had to do it for him.
And I think the Twins are too angry and upset to be thinking straight at this point. They just know that they need to get away before they start doing terrible things to certain people. *grin* So, you're right that it will be safer all around for them to be out of the way for a while.

Namo and Co. have plans for Dan, Roy and Sarah? That sounds a bit... ominous. But, however, even if those three are going away for a while, it doesn't mean that Sarah can't come to try the dress on and go away again. It will just be frustating to her mother.

· Chapter 24: Domino Effect
Well, things at Edhellond are going pear-shaped fast right now.
I often read other reviews before making my own to see if someone says better what I want to say, and this chapter had a lot of good reviews.
Even though I agree with everyone about Helyanwe's awful attitude, I can also have some pity for her. She grew up in a culture that heavily relies on aristocracy as a basis of personal worth and has been fed it for (how many?) thousands of years! Racism and classism (all isms in fact) are hard enough to detangle from your wiring when you've been raised in a society that disapprove of it. Where she comes from there isn't even anyone questioning the status quo and she's not even exposed to a different idea to roll around in her empty little brain. Also she benefits highly from said status quo. So why would it even occur to her to see things differently?
That being said, I really think she's way too immature for our favorite hero. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't put them back together!!!!
C'mon Fiondil, Glorfindel's so much better than that!! Please don't hook him up with her! It just doesn't make sense. What have we seen of her? She's pretty and related to a close friend and tolerates his arm around his shoulder. That's it! Even if things get forgiven between them, his life experience has changed him so that he's way beyond where she is maturity-wise.
I think you should put him together with Mithrellas!!! I can't think that Elves only fall in love once! That would be tooooo cruel! Especially if their spouse was mortal, because then they don't even have the chance to meet again in the Afterlife. Mithrellas has been with the Tribe of Six for ages and is more closer to Glorfindel in spirit and maturity and experience. She's a much better match for him and she deserves to find love again.
My God I spent all this time writing about one aspect of this chapter and haven't even touched on anything else! Thanks for a good read!

Okay... Did I understand right? Eärnur is giving the twins hard time and looking down his nose at them just because he didn't get along with their father? (Which makes me even more curious as to what exactly happened in Valinor.)
It is a bit frustating how no one is listening to anyone else, except Serindë. She is turning out to be a lot more pleasant person than it seemed in EA2.
I think they shouldn't let the Valinorean elves act as official doctors for a long time. They have no experience about blood transfusion and thought that their diagnosis was correct, just because they didn't think the twins are "real" healers? That sounds unprofessional. Poor Glorfindel.
Author's reply
Hi someone. I don't think it is a case of Eärnur not getting along with Elrond. I'm sure they respect each other and are probably even friends to some extent. I think Eärnur is simply referring to the fact that Elrond was initially resistant to the idea of being Irmo's apprentice and possibly Eärnur was one of the master healers who was assigned to tutor Elrond along with Vardamir and he is recalling the trouble he and the other master healers had with Elrond at the time.
When you're stressed out and lacking sleep and full of worry, it's hard to listen to anyone or even to hear what they are truly saying. Serindë isn't as emotionally involved so it's easier for her, though she's definitely on the Twins' side.
I think it will be awhile before Kyle will accord the Valinórean Elves the right to act as doctors for a time after this, as we will see.

Well thank Eru Gandalf's here! I like how you modernized him, backwoodsmen/old hippie. my favorite! Be interesting to see how he intervenes and influences, and who listens.

"what are you doing with that baseball bat Finrod?" "why are you looking at us that way Fin...." Soon they're going to ask how many times he broke wind that day. He'll have to start posting a report on the kitchen fridge every night so he won't have to keep telling each individual person "I'm OK, REALLY!!" all day long.
I know they all care but if they don't get outta his face he's going to have that nervous breakdown they're all expecting!
I know, he should start making s**t up every time someone asks him how he's doing. "Well the furniture was acting too judgmental this afternoon so I burned it all! Then my clothes started telling me dirty jokes, but their timing was off. I also had an argument with a lemon today and would someone please tell the bananas to shut up!!"
What Alex and Derek saw in the store was disturbing, esp. about the women pretending to ponder meat prices. And IMHO,Erestor and his wife were being a bit careless which denotes a certain arrogance. Alex is right about watching out for that arrogance in public, there are too many people just begging for a reason to oust or even wipe out the Elves from Wiseman. I see trouble a-brewin'.

Go Kyle! (If I remember correctly he got the same lecture.) Thank goodness he arrived when he did, slipped leash or not Loren needed someone on "his side"
Hell of a way for the higher ups to prove a point. That both sides could learn from the other. Not just "mortal" medicine but all medicine. And that the "children" have learned much. Yes. But it would appear more than one of the adults needed to learn a few things. Guess training Elrond didn't teach them anything about that ;)
Author's reply
Hi Laer. Yeah, he did get something of the same lecture and it apparently stuck.
I don't think that the Valar are consciously saying, "Let the lessoning begin" but simply allowing the Children (both Elves and Mortals) to muddle along on their own. That's really the only way to learn from one's mistakes. Handing them a solution would never work. And I suspect that with the Valinórean Elves, there were a lot of unrealistic expectations where the Mortals are concerned and therein lies part of the problem.
