“We former Rangers find it hard to sit still for too long!”
Ahahahahaha!
I love the pictures you've drawn using words here. I can see them so clearly. It's lovely to see them in a quiet, restful moment when they can enjoy the fruits of their labours.

Ah, yes, water from a spring bubbling up from the ground on a hot summer's day. I have experienced such amazing pleasure. (And one particular spring that we found in the wilderness had wintergreen growing at its edge. Our guide showed us how to pluck a few wintergreen leaves and chew them, and then scoop up water from the spring and drink. Although, to be honest, the spring water all by itself had a flavor more delicious than anything I can remember drinking since.
Lovely story. I adore the banter between the cousins, very natural.

Ah, but he does remember, and affirms what he said then. And a little child involves both King and Steward in delighting in play!

Well-written slice of Ranger life; and beautiful descriptions, as always. Loved the ending; and the attention paid to the importance of water in the ecosystem, both physically and spiritually.

I can picture that woodland glade so perfectly... what a lovely and precious place.
"Nor can wine look like diamonds sparkling in the sunlight. I wonder if even the Simarils appeared so fair?"
I love that. A wise man knows a real treasure when he finds it.

I love the way that the Heir of Isildur waxes poetic. I guess it should be no that he is into poetry, having grown up among Elves. And he is so right, that no jewels could ever be more precious than water. This story is so timely considering how water seems to be getting scarcer and scarcer, or so I keep hearing from the news.

Water has been fought for, then underrated until it becomes scarce and people realize where true wealth lies. A good and peaceful end to the quest relief from the heat. Aragorn has his priorities straight, as young as he is here.
And may the final harvests of your land have been full and sufficient. Thanks so for all you have done!
Author's reply
Thank you. I think Aragorn learned wisdom from quite a young age.

Oh, how beautiful Linda!
Indeed, there is nothing more precious than fresh water, good food and shelter; Aragorn is blessed to have a kinsman who can teach him to find them all in this wood. :)
Thank you for the good wishes, and I hope your day has been blessed.
