Isn't Gandalf a little bit prideful here (like Elijah saying he is the only one not to have bowed down to Baal)? though it is despair speaking so it is understandable... in that kind of moment only the worst comes to mind.
It seems that everybody, not only Saruman, underestimates Radagast. How long did he keep the darkness back from Mirkwood? He accomplished things that are really important but not easily seen or with an obvious immediate effect. And really what would be the point to destroy Sauron without having a healthy world to live in afterward?

Oh I love this! Of course, poor Gandalf would have to question Radagast's loyalty--it would be only natural. But the appearance of the Eagle would definitely fix everything.
So even though his "betrayal" of Gandalf was unwitting, so was his "betrayal" of Saruman! LOL!
I'm sure Gandalf appreciated the irony; I'm equally sure that Saruman did NOT.

Wow, Gandalf had me almost convinced there! Saruman underestimated Radagast for a simpleton. Great story!

Friendship yet has meaning and hope may still endure.
Wonderful. How desperate his thoughts must have been in this situation!
