I can see how the pressure of now being the Thain is starting to affect the family negatively. Thanks, atealgirl

Author's reply

Yes indeed, it was a lot of pressure! Thank you for reviewing! Kaylee

This is a very cute story. The mention of Trotter as a possible nickname for Hildifons made me think of how Tolkien at one point had the Aragorn character be a hobbit named Trotter. I also pictured a little three-year-old Aragorn toddling around Rivendell. Loved Gandalf getting a wee hobbit stuck in his beard. Thanks, atealgirl

Author's reply

Yes, good catch - that was a deliberate reference. It is also a reference to Dreamflower's story "Trotter", in which Hildifons ends up becoming a hobbit Ranger after leaving the Shire. I do hope you'll read her story, if you like Hildifons! :) Thank you for your review! Kaylee

Oh, how far indeed? A lovely dozen ficlets. Thanks so for each of them!

Author's reply

We'll see someday, perhaps! Thanks so for your lovely reviews, Larner! I'm so glad you enjoyed them!

Larner · 2 October 2018 · Chapter 11: A New Outlook

Oh, I agree! Definitely twelve should be enough!

Author's reply

Definitely enough! More than, my own mum would say, I'm sure!

Larner · 2 October 2018 · Chapter 10: Of Sticks and Stones

Ah, the squabbles of small children! Heh!

Author's reply

Heh! I know, right? I'm sure even hobbit children weren't immune to squabbling!

Larner · 2 October 2018 · Chapter 9: In The Garden

Lovely that she planted her name-flower on her lost brother's grave.

Author's reply

Yes, I think so too! Thanks so, Larner!

Larner · 2 October 2018 · Chapter 8: The Tree and Flower

Oh, yes, this child will one day have a special child of her own!

Author's reply

Yes, indeed she will!

Larner · 2 October 2018 · Chapter 7: Seventh Son

Not exactly fair, to punish the eldest for Bard's choice.

Author's reply

It really isn't. But Bard was spoiled terribly due to his coveted position in the family. *sigh*

Larner · 2 October 2018 · Chapter 6: The Fauntling Fated

Oh, what an introduction to Gandalf the Grey! Climbing the Wizard's beard is quite the feat!

Author's reply

LOL! It is, isn't it? He's quite the adventurous lad!

Larner · 2 October 2018 · Chapter 5: A Birthday For Ducky

Oh, but this is cute! And do the ducks get to go back to the Tooklands with little Ducky?

Author's reply

Yes, they most certainly do! I'm so glad you liked it!

Larner · 11 September 2018 · Chapter 4: A Birthday Affair

Leap year children do get shortchanged, don't they?

Author's reply

They really do. Life won't get any easier for Hilly, I'm afraid, but at least his family loves him dearly. Thank you!

Larner · 11 September 2018 · Chapter 3: The Third Birthday

A beautiful way to remember Hildi.

Author's reply

Thank you! I think so, too.

Larner · 11 September 2018 · Chapter 2: The Worst Birthday

A terrible loss, especially on his birthday!

Author's reply

Yes, it really was :(

Larner · 11 September 2018 · Chapter 1: The Best Birthday

Lovely gifts for each.

Author's reply

O thank you Larner! I'm glad you like them!

shirebound · 4 September 2018 · Chapter 12: Cygnet

What lovely stories. I greatly enjoyed reading about the small but precious gifts each child found, and chose to give away, and imagining how this family lived.

Author's reply

Thank you so much for your reviews, Shirebound. They made my day :) I'm so glad you've enjoyed these stories!

shirebound · 4 September 2018 · Chapter 8: The Tree and Flower

“Here!” he said brightly, holding it out to Gandalf. “Plant tree for Kings!” Gandalf accepted the acorn with a grave nod. “Thank you, lad; I do believe I shall,” he said. “It will at least afford Gondor some beauty in her time of trouble.” I love that. Such a generous lad, and Gandalf always knows just what to say.

Author's reply

Oh I'm glad you loved it! Brand really is a generous lad, isn't he? I find Gandalf hard to write usually, but his appearances in this story seemed to work for my Muse so I'm glad you like him :) I'm sure you've seen it ages ago, but if you haven't, Dreamflower wrote a story inspired by this chapter, an encounter between Gandalf and young Faramir, with older Faramir telling Frodo the story. It's called "Conversation In The Sun" from Dreamflower's Mathoms III. It's one of the reasons I chose "The Old Took's Faunts" as one of my first stories to post here. :)

shirebound · 4 September 2018 · Chapter 6: The Fauntling Fated

Do me a kindness and remove your brother from my beard LOL! It's wonderful to imagine Gandalf's early meetings with these special lads, and a visit with his old friend Gerontius.

Author's reply

*giggles* Thank you! I loved writing that line. Gandalf is very important to Gerontius, and his lads are indeed very special. Hildifons will certainly be important to Gandalf later!

shirebound · 4 September 2018 · Chapter 1: The Best Birthday

This is so adorable. :)

Author's reply

Thank you Shirebound! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
