He muttered to himself, “Saruman always did tell me that my plots within plots would come to a muddle of unexpected consequences.” LOL.
“Legolas then unfolded his heart to his old friend, haltingly at first, but then the story began to flow and before long Gandalf could understand how the recent events were shaping Legolas’ soul.” So he tells Gandalf! Good!
“…unsure of how he felt about this Elf Lord and unsettled by the fact that he did not immediately dislike him as a dutiful son of Thranduil should.” Aha conversing with Elrond! Good! also heehee at the wording.
“Very interesting. He is his father’s son, there is no doubt about that, but I sense he will be far more that, far more than he realizes.” Indeed.
More please???

· Chapter 20: To Make What Amends I Can
You know who else is zealously protective? Denethor and possibly Gloin.
And then Legolas talks to Aragorn before Elrond! I don’t remember if those two and Gandalf already knew about Gollum’s escape; I guess I will have to go look it up. But Aragorn waits outside? I would have gone with Legolas.
“Well, that was all terribly formal now, wasn’t it?” Erthion looked at Legolas as they were walking to the falls where they had agreed to meet Aragorn.
Legolas laughed self-consciously. “That was, wasn’t it? I don’t know what came over me.”
“Don’t you?” Vivelle stated. “You are your Adar’s son. Haven’t you ever noticed at audiences he slips into deep formality when asked an uncomfortable question or dealing with those who trouble him?”
Legolas stopped and stared at Vivelle. “I suppose I must have noticed but I had never realized that until now.”
“You are your Adar’s son… and,” Vivelle continued, “there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.”
hmmmm…I have a question, actually: Are they speaking Sindarin?
Right but he didn’t tell Aragorn before.
Oh dear, hope all the family relations can be solved soon. Including Elrond and Aragorn, heehee.

· Chapter 19: Still Water and Reality
Elladan! Elrohir!” Legolas shouted with joy greeting the twin sons of Elrond. He had forged a bond with these two long ago when the twins were sent on embassies to Thranduil.”
I knew it! Of corse they are friends!
“They settled in around the campfire and Legolas revealed to the twin sons of Elrond what had become of Gollum and his unknown fate. Legolas did not stint on what he deemed his fault in this whole affair.” So Legolas tells the Twins first, after several goo delaying tactics, if I may say so.
“Mithrandir came to us a few days ago to tell us what has been set in motion. Glorfindel has been sent west to seek Aragorn and we have been dispatched to Lothlorien. We go to seek an audience with Grandmama and Grandpapa to inform them of the happenings afoot and to seek their counsel in these matters. Adar says that knowledge is most important at this time. He senses that events move towards resolution, one way or another.” Ah yes. If I may, I believe the correct Elvish names are Daernana and Daerada.
“He was becoming more like his father every day. She worried that his joy would leave him, and he would be forever changed.” Hmmm…I am afraid he will be, but he will have Aragorn, and Gimli. And later Faramir, and other fiends. And their children:)
And Erthion saw an expression cross Legolas’ face that could only be described as Thranduil at his most supercilious, but it almost immediately left and Legolas’ earnest and open look returned to inhabit his princely features once more.
Almost as if Legolas had read his mind, he smiled sheepishly and said in an abashed away, “I really sounded like Adar just now, didn’t I?”
Erthion shrugged and shared the smile. “Just a bit.”
Legolas laughed in a self-conscious way. “Who knew I was listening all these centuries?”
hmmmho
Imminent reckoning indeed, wow.

I never expected the Beornings! I wonder what Gloin…and Bilbo…will think if they find out about this! Gandalf is presumably happy to see them working together. If he knew.
“Legolas smiled and wondered if Thranduil realized what loyalty and respect he had in this man. If he did not, Legolas would be sure to tell him when he returned from this errand.“ I hope he remembers to tell. Maybe they visit on the way back.
Oh! the end!

Legolas stated, “It is almost first light, we should break camp and depart. When we return I must tell Sadron the ill news that the Spiders have taken to crossing the Old Forest Road. Before they had not, but now…This is most worrying.”
If he won’t tell Sadron until then I think Sadron will have found out by then.
“Brother!” Legolas scoffed, “I will return as quickly as I may. I will go to Imladris and inform Lord Elrond of what has happened and then return just as quickly. There will be perils, but I know I will be able to handle whatever comes my way,” Legolas spoke with all the innocent fervor of the young and sheltered.”
Indeed, nothing will be quick about the journey from Imladris to Rauros, then after that it is still another 6 months or so before he leaves Gondor.

Thranduil murmured, “I always wondered which of my sons would be cursed with your Naneth’s ‘gift’ of the Sight.” He looked at Celebren quickly to see a shocked look on his face.
“I never knew that Naneth had the Sight.”
“Yes, well. I did not realize that Sadron knew,” Thranduil continued in a chagrinned voice. “It was never something she was comfortable with. She did not speak of it often and hoped it would not pass to any of you. But apparently it did. Please continue.”
hheheh. But Thranduil knows where he is going. And you know…maybe word gets sent to him by someone in Elrond’s house that Legolas arrived and is joining the Fellowship. Or his three friends go back and say so.
His mother has ceryainly found a good time to start giving him visions.

Hmmm. Their lives will definitely be changed. So that is how Legolas decides to go! Most of the stories I have read about him he has been there before and is friends with the Twins and Arwen. So that he hasn’t been there is interesting, but makes sense for this story.

The last part: awww. I wonder how Sadron lets him go to Imladris.? It also occured to me Legolas doesn’t ever see Gollum again unless he realizes Gollum is following them in Moria and on the River. Or perhaps he sees him in Lorien? I guess the latter, I don’t really remember. Aragorn, Frodo, and Gandalf know he was following them, and Haldir or one of his brothers and Frodo saw him in Lorien.

· Chapter 10: A Brother's Concern
“He thought of his little brother. Legolas was a very capable warrior. He worked many long hard hours on the training field and on the archery range, honing his skills – to make the most of his considerable abilities. Sadron thought he worked so hard and tried to be so perfect so that through his skills alone he could convince his father to give him more responsibilities, to show that he was worthy. As result, Legolas’ skills as an archer were among the best he had ever seen. If truth be told, he was better than either Celebren or himself, though he would never tell Legolas that exactly. Brotherly vanity needs must be served, Sadron smiled. His skills with two knives was poetry in motion. Centuries spent training, driving himself to the perfection of his abilities created fluid and deadly execution on the training field. And there was the rub.”
“Legolas did not have a lot of experience outside Mirkwood and even within the borders of their realm farther away than a day’s ride away from the King’s Halls. Thranduil simply did not allow it. Legolas had slipped past his minders on rare occasions while on patrol and had had exposure beyond Mirkwood, but it was very limited“
hehe. Unfortunately I don’t think Legolas will arrive.

Oh my. That DEFINITELY explains how Legolas left for Imladris. So does he not talk to his father for another two years or so? At least Celebren will be able to explain some things.

· Chapter 6: And So It begins...
I forgot to mention that Legolas has done much talking before his troubles really begin. Maybe Thranduil sent Legolas to Imladris with the message as punishment? But I doubt it. He probably just wants to stay true to his word. I think that second message will be much harder to say, especially since dwarves are there. Besides Aragorn and Gandalf, I mean, and the potentiality that he thought his kingdom would be blamed for letting him escape.

I have never read something like this before!
I wonder how in the world Legolas goes to Rivendell without body guards? I guess perhaps in the book he didn’t have any, or they only escorted him there, and once he joined the Fellowship it was a secret mission so they shouldn’t know about it. In the film, I guess it was the latter.

I did not realize that you had started "Reunion" This makes me very happy!! I always wonder how Legolas got to Rivendell and also the relationship between he and his father! So I started writing this. At first I was writing this at the same time of Destiny's Child, Then I just started concentrating on Destiny but I do intend on finishing this as well. Destiny is almost finished. So I might start writing this one again.

When I read the one shot of this earlier I for some reason thought it was after the wedding. But it is not. Celeborn has not seen Legolas since before March. When Celeborn sees him will he send word to Thranduil? Or will he not because T. will have sent his own messengers to the coronation which is before the wedding anyway?

Dear Mirkwoodmaiden
So glad you updated this story. I loved the Rivendell atmosphere you painted with the waterfalls soothing the mind and spirit, how they all feel it.
It was nice how both Elrond and Gandalf showed such understanding and did much to ease Legolas' burden with their calm presence and words. The confusion Legolas felt because he had expected something else but then felt accepted and understood... it will still take time, but he is on the way of healing from these hurts, and that is great to see. I loved the role those two characters play in his healing process.
Vivelle disappearing in the healing halls, of course, that suits her so much.
Erthion sharing his feelings about Imladris with Legolas; so nice how that was comforting him, reminding him that with his friends around him he will never be alone. What a beautiful friendship. Such peace to be found in this chapter, gives me good feelings.
Be well, dear.

Sorry it took so long for me to respond. It is all starting to happen now! Both my long stories are crashing into the events of LOTR. It gets bumpy from here! I think that I have brought Legolas to Imladris ready to face what he will face and in "Destiny's Child" Tragedy awaits Eowyn before life begins to shine for her. I am girding up to plunge into these stories once again!

I admit to not having started this one yet... But it's so good to see you post a new chapter! I've been thinking of you but too overloaded at work to write or even read much over the summer. Still, I see there's a chapter in Éowyn's story that I haven't read yet (how far will that one go? all the way to Faramir?).
As far as my postings go, I have half a chapter of Bill the Pony's tale typed in (and half a chapter of the puppy story as well, as well as a couple more chapters of "Farry and Ferdi Go to Gondor" written. But nothing ready to post). I was going to spend the next few days soaking in fanfic... but then work called this morning. Yikes. In any event, (((hugs))) and I hope this finds you and yours well.

Dear Mirkwoodmaiden
After reading 'The Heir Apparent' it was so nice to see a part in here as a memory.
And there is still so much pain and guilt felt by Legolas. It is not easy to bear if I think of how long and through how many trials he will still have to carry it before he will return home. But maybe some healing may come on the way... Although I think it will still be heavy on both sides.

So happy to see your review! I really thought that portion of the "Heir Apparent" belonged as a memory here. I try to write all my stories within the same framework or timeline. It can be a little limiting but I also like having a world (inside Tolkien's world) where my stories exist and are connected. "Destiny's Child" is happening on a parallel track to this story.
Legolas does still carry pain as does Thranduil but they both still have to function within their world. Emotional healing is not a linear thing, we all have setbacks. It is how we deal with them. Healing will come and both will be the better for it. How I don't quite yet know as I have not written those chapters! :-D but I do have some ideas.
Thanks again!
be well!

There is a feeling all through this chapter of slowly getting ready, of step by step building to, well, something big to come. Dalaria's emotional support and advice, Legolas's old friends giving him love and support in small, ordinary ways as they always did, they feel like small steps to help him prepare. And if Legolas's friends had any doubt of it, I think the Twins's news will show them that they really are part of a bigger picture. And Glorfindel has already gone west to find Aragorn? All of the pieces are coming together now.

So glad to know you are still hanging with this story! Yeah!! And yes it has been a slow process and yes this last chapter saw advancement of what will become Legolas' destiny, far away Mirkwood and all he has grown and known. Sometimes our destiny leads us away from where we thought we would go.
Legolas will never again live in Mirkwood and know the life he knew before, be the little brother and dutiful son. But life is about change and how we deal with it. Thranduil will have to deal with that and he will.
And yes things are coming to a head. Glorfindel has gone to find Aragorn and the hobbits. It is October 3018 and things are now afoot!!

Dear Mirkwoodmaiden
Finally they arrive to Imladris. I was looking forward to this moment.
I loved the comparison of Legolas to his father, how some traits remind of Thranduil, but still he remains himself in his own indistiguishable, open personality.
I always like the banter between the friends and between Erthion and Vivelle especially.
Vivelle is such a good friend. And her conflict between the healer and the friend is very clear and also understandable. It is not easy at all to separate those roles, when the emotions are strong.
Take care, be well. Hugs

Sorry it has taken so long to respond to your review, It has been a hectic last few days, but thank you once again for reading and responding! I have tried to show flashes of Thranduil within Legolas. He is his father's son he has not always recognised how much. But he is changing, emerging from that cocoon of protection his father tried to wrap him up in. Yes his father's reasons were based in love, but it has still been a cocoon. Legolas won't ever be the same.
I have really enjoyed the building the relationships between the four elves, which also make it difficult for Legolas to convince them to go back to Mirkwood. I haven't that yet so I really don't know how I am going to handle that!
So happy you are still reading!

So good that you included the Beornings in your story. I love how open and direct you show them. Dalaria is so wise and caring, and it is so good how with her way she insists and in the end helps Legolas. She reminds me of somehow of Holdlith in Destiny's Child.
And Daria is so sweet.
The nightmare is really sad.
I like the respect and high regard those people have for Thranduil, and how they bring it to his son.
Take care, stay safe

Nurayy!
Hello! I was looking for something to happen in the Misty Mountains on their way to Imladris and as I was reading my research said that the Beornings held the High Pass open during the Ring War and the High Pass was the route our four intrepid elves were taking so they were going to cross paths. Also somewhere I read that they had fought alongside Thranduil in Northern Mirkwood so there you have it. The Beornings respect strength and skill at arms which Thranduil most definitely has.
Beorn seems a straight forward character in the book and the Hobbit films so I made them a very direct people. You live in the mountains there is no time for beating around the bush!
Dalaria is definitely a wise-woman. Much in the same mold as Holdlith. These omen see more, they pay attention to the world around them and to people. They carry their empathy with them as a way to heal.
I wanted to somehow to make reference to Legolas' mum but I was unsure how until this little section just kinda wrote itself.
Thanks for writing!

I liked it how you described Legolas' connection to the wood. How he feels the joy in it, and also the sadness and where the trees are marred by the darkness.
A touching moment was when Sadron gave him the pendant as a reminder of home, carrying the joy of the wood in it. It was sweet that he gave him his since his father did not get the chance to give this blessing to him. Thranduil would be so glad and grateful for this gesture of a caring big brother. And he does care so much. I could feel again how hard it was to him to let his little brother go into possible danger, to let him go and let him grow.
The part where he let the sound of the river and the sky full of stars soothe his heart was very peaceful.
The sadness at the memory of when his mother was taken is so tragic. It changed their lives and will always be felt.
And you refer to some past events involving Aragorn. I might go and find out what relationship already exists between them.
Take care

Thanks and I pondered what it would be like to have that connection cut off when it was as natural as breathing.
It will mean a lot to Thranduil to know that Legolas has at least his brother's pendant.
It is hard for Sadron. He is Legolas' big brother and wants to protect him as he always has, but he knows he has to let Legolas go knowing as you say to "let him Grow..."
I pondered how would Legolas would see and feel about a wide open sky full of stars. I figured they would at least partially bring him peace. Rivers, lakes, streams, oceans. They all fill me with comfort and I thought it might be the same for Legolas. :-)
The story "The Heir Apparent" where Aragon and Legolas meet is when Estel is only 15. The first 8 chapter deal with Arathorn and Gilraen and litte Estel. After that it is set in Imladris!
Thank you so much for writing! Hope you do check out "The Heir Apparent"
