Larner · 25 April 2023 · Chapter 70: Pause, and Full Stop

Oh, but the perfect ending! I see how much stuck in my memory without my realization, to come out years later in my own writing, but with my own emphasis. I focused on Frodo's experiences rather than Fredegar's, and I represented the healers as insisting Freddy NOT regain all his former weight. I see the Hobbit tendency to speak lightly of serious matters reflected so well here, far better than I tend to manage. Thanks so for sparking my own writing, and for your friendship. It keeps me feeling youthful, as ancient and venerable as I'm growing, being nineteen years older than Frodo was when he left the Shire that last time. Eglerio, Frodo Baggins! A laity te!

Author's reply

I just now saw this, almost a year later! (I dunno about that. I think you manage just fine. More than fine, actually.) You are more than welcome, for all those things, and in return, I must thank you for your friendship and the gift of your writing, so rich and deep and layered and thought-provoking. I'm honored to have played a part in encouraging you to explore your own visions of the Professor's world.

Yes, love forever!

Larner · 25 April 2023 · Chapter 68: Farewell Words

So glad this was not AU after all. My, how long it's been since I last read it! And Frodo gets to live, blest by beauty until the end of a life known in Peace.

Author's reply

Technically it's AU, sad to say. After I finished writing this story, I came upon one of JRRT's letters where he explained that Frodo had to sail West NOT because of any physical malady. sigh.

Larner · 25 April 2023 · Chapter 67: Errand of Mercy

The dream was a shock, and no mistake! And Frodo is as safe as he can be, surrounded by many of the High Elves who love him, not to mention Bilbo and Gandalf. Yes, a high sense of relief for Freddy and Budgie. Good enough!

Larner · 25 April 2023 · Chapter 66: Laying Down the Fight

AU, then. And the letter lingers in The Pony.

Larner · 25 April 2023 · Chapter 65: Of a Birthday Remembrance

Rather fatalistic. Don't blame them for wanting to weep. Now, is the letter behind Butterbur's mantel clock destined to follow the fate of the last one Gandalf entrusted to the innkee per?

Larner · 23 April 2023 · Chapter 64: Into the Darkness

There is time yet, though. The grey ship is not yet sailed.

Larner · 23 April 2023 · Chapter 63: Breaking the News

Yes, Frodo knows. He was properly named, after all.

Author's reply

He does, and he was, indeed.

Larner · 23 April 2023 · Chapter 62: Heart-to-Heart Talk

Time to contemplated the Queen's offered gift, then.

Larner · 23 April 2023 · Chapter 61: Of a Hot Summer's Day

I see where I stole my own heat exhaustion tale from, although I had Frodo there in October for the fall memories first. And my version of Budgie is more skeptical than yours.

Author's reply

I missed that! Which story is this?

Perhaps he and Melilot will have that interrupted wedding yet.

Larner · 23 April 2023 · Chapter 51: 'No Time Like the Present'

I'm glad my gentiehobbits aren't as predatory as yours in their marital arrangements. My Ferdi and Pimmie were married prior to the Time of Troubles. I hope Nell and Rudi are happy.

Larner · 23 April 2023 · Chapter 50: Tiny, but not Insignificant Pause

It's still unfathomable le to me that Frodo hid it so well from Sam.
