Larner · 22 April 2023 · Chapter 19: Hide and Seek

Some female training is proving useful, at least.

Author's reply

Hah! I hadn't thought of that!

Larner · 22 April 2023 · Chapter 18: Of Gossip and Gardeners

Your Frodo is more chipper than mine, while your Freddy's the haunted one. Love the "bedtime stories."

Larner · 22 April 2023 · Chapter 17: Lancing the Boil

Frodo's heard far worse lies mixed with terrible truths, after all. Out with Saruman's lies!

Larner · 21 April 2023 · Chapter 16: Dreams of Home

The hypnotizing power of Saruman's voice needs eradicating from Freddy's mind. Poor lad!

Larner · 21 April 2023 · Chapter 15: Another Pause

Oh, but I've been known to answer myself on occasion.

Author's reply

My dad did that all the time! I think it was his way of keeping his ADHD (undiagnosed in those days) brain on track. Thanks!

Larner · 21 April 2023 · Chapter 14: Pouncing on Fredegar

He is "waking-waking" at last. Good enough!

Author's reply

I am told that "wakey wakey!" comes from Monty Python (though perhaps it's a general Britishism, and they were merely reflecting it), but it seems to fit the Tooks quite well. Thanks!

Larner · 21 April 2023 · Chapter 12: Taking Up the Fight

Let each and all get some decent rest, then. Might make some custard myself tomorrow.

Larner · 21 April 2023 · Chapter 10: Well-Met at Waymeet

It's a dire prognosis. Freddy's state of mind is still definitely mixed between the Lockholes and his freedom.

Larner · 21 April 2023 · Chapter 9: Of Pig Slops and Milk Toast

Excellent plan to give a meal in front of the Big Men.

Larner · 21 April 2023 · Chapter 8: Suitable for Hobbits

Wise Hobbits on all sides, it would appear.

Larner · 21 April 2023 · Chapter 6: Picking Up the Pieces

Returning to innocence will be a difficult but necessary job. (Or as much innocence as is possible.)

Larner · 21 April 2023 · Chapter 5: Pause

Ah, a transition chapter!

Larner · 21 April 2023 · Chapter 4: A Little Fall of Rain

A nice rescue for them all, and a welcome greeting--and most appropriate--for Lobelia, the heroine for the hour.

Larner · 21 April 2023 · Chapter 3: Evil, Personified

I see Saruman continues to show some of the magic of his voice. Drugs? Not nice!

Larner · 20 April 2023 · Chapter 1: Every Ruffian's Worst Nightmare

I am rereading this, the work that inspired me to start writing fanfic. Poor Lobelia, and the poor ruffians that are finding themselves responding to her commanding nature. They don't know the force they now have on their hands. To see her feeling compassion for this younger Hobbitas if he were Lotho is surprising; but then we know what will happen to Lotho all to soon. Her own foresight at work, perhaps? She, as with Frodo,is now showing a natural authority that these poor Men don't know how to refuse.

Antane · 3 September 2011 · Chapter 70: Pause, and Full Stop

Done at last! Thank you for writing this jewel! How nice that Frodo and Sam were reunited as we all hope. :) You wrote Frodo very well especially in the chapters regarding the illnesses and onward from there. I loved the way you described what he could have indeed felt during those times. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Thank you for these good words, and beg pardon for this much belated reply. I don't know that I saw this before today, when I was in search of a bit of "comfort food" and so read through part of this story again.

Antane · 3 September 2011 · Chapter 69: Epilogue

Wonderful ending to this chapter. I'm sure Frodo said the same at Merry and Pippin's weddings too. No way would he have missed any of them. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Antane · 3 September 2011 · Chapter 68: Farewell Words

Love it, love it, love it! What a joy to know that he will be healed and Sam was there at the end to see him into light instead into darkness as you said so well. Love the letter Frodo wrote to his faithful cousin. I suspected that letter from Gandalf would be lost and delayed like the first but it came in time. Thank God for that! What a blessing. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

I think the old wizard really put the fear of Gandalf into Butterbur after that first letter didn't get delivered in a timely fashion! Of course, the reader might have had some doubts, considering Butterbur's previous failure, but happily, it all came out right in the end.

Antane · 3 September 2011 · Chapter 67: Errand of Mercy

What a wonderful twist! Thank you! *hugs* Perhaps indeed Frodo will survive now. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Antane · 3 September 2011 · Chapter 66: Laying Down the Fight

I'm glad Sam will be there, he should be. What an interesting dream! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Antane · 3 September 2011 · Chapter 64: Into the Darkness

Freddy is right that it would be a torment for Frodo just to slip away without warning or explanation. I think that would be worse than the agony of watching him slip away slowly each day, but at least when the end comes, they would know it and eventually recover from it. Leaving them hanging without knowing what happened and not being there at the end would be worse for them. I hope Frodo realizes that and lets them all walk with him through what is come. They would want to do nothing less, that is what they went on the Quest for, and now with this new journey they would want to be by his side just as much. I'm glad at the least Freddy is there. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Antane · 3 September 2011 · Chapter 63: Breaking the News

This is very sad for Frodo to realize that he is dying, but how wonderful that he also realizes the truth of what happened at the Fire and in some dim way Who was there to save him. I am loving the return to this story and sorry it took me so long to do so! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

I don't know if the Professor ever gave Frodo that knowledge this side of the Sundering Sea, or if I only read it in one of his letters, but it felt right for him to be able to offer that comfort to Freddy. Thanks!

Antane · 3 September 2011 · Chapter 62: Heart-to-Heart Talk

This is getting scary! Must read on... Namarie, God bless, Antane

Antane · 3 September 2011 · Chapter 59: A Visit to Bag End

Freddy has bought Frodo a loving gift in his company and healer. I love the way he teased his cousin about trying to have a good performance during the anniversary illness and Frodo's response. Alas that Frodo made good on his word, but good for him and Freddy to try to keep it from Sam. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Antane · 3 September 2011 · Chapter 57: Changes and Plans

I love this chapter - Sam's amazement that he is in a book himself like he wanted and saying that it is was to remember but it was important that everything be written down right. We are indebted to him, Frodo and Freddy. Have you read Toward the Gleam that just came out? It's about the Professor's discovery of the Red Book. You will love it! I know how long it takes to write a book since I am writing one myself - about them! - and I too destroy my old notes. I love having another thing in common with my beloved fellow scribe. :) Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
