I love how you portrayed the relationship between Legolas and Glorfindel. That last chapter was my favorite. All in all, a wonderful story! Write more! Galimeril ;D P.S. Could you please give me a translation on the song Glorfindel sings? Thanks!

Hi there... Thanks so much for the kind review! A translation of the hymn to Elbereth can be found here: http://www.uib.no/People/hnohf/elbereth.htm Hope that helps. Tinnuial

That was a beautiful epilogue. Very thoughtful.
daw the minstrel · 4 August 2004 · Chapter 4: Epilogue
Lovely. I was struck by the way you had Glorfindel think of all of the Fellowship (except Gandalf) as children. I suppose that makes sense. But his affection for Legolas is the nicest part of this.
Karri · 29 July 2004 · Chapter 3: Ch 3
A beautiful chapter! I expecially enjoyed the scene toward the end...I found the glad as relaxing as Glorfindel did. :-D (I also enjoyed getting a glimpse of Legolas's nana. It is so rare when he gets on in fanfic. ;-))
Karri · 29 July 2004 · Chapter 2: Ch 2
Quite the entertaining conversation between elf lords. Well done. :-) (one minor typo: the apostrophe goes on the other side of the T on 'tis.)
Karri · 29 July 2004 · Chapter 1: A Ray of Hope
This is a terrific story. Glorfindel is gallant, Thranduil is courteous, Legolas is adorable. I expecially enjoyed that Glorfindel is Legolas's favorite bedtime story.
lwarren · 28 July 2004 · Chapter 3: Ch 3
I just found this little jewel of a story and after reading ch.1 and your comment/question about continuing, I was going to review and say "write on!"...until I saw the date. Maybe not...so I read through ch. 3 and NOW I will review the whole thing... :-) I had tears threatening by the time I finished ch. 3...this is a lovely story. You may not think it has much plot, but let me tell you what it does have...a great deal of heart! The friendship between Thranduil and Glorfindel is so warm...they were so funny in ch. 2 with the stories and all - just like two old friends catching up on old times, and one trying to comfort the other with humor and good memories. And poor Glorfindel - everyone's favorite bedtime story, bless his heart! Wonderful! However, it is Legolas that really gets my AWWWWWWWW! reflex going! :-) I love his relationship with the trees, and the way they love him. I love the way he lights up the lives of his people, and I love the way he eases Glorfindel's heart. To see the world again through the eyes of a young one is a special gift indeed. By the time the elfling started singing, I was sniffling in earnest. This is one gooood story...please continue! *begs on bended knee* *oops - knee doesn't recognize that command any longer, so I'll just B-E-G!* linda

Wow, this is really a great story. I loved Glorfindel's somber mood mixed in with Legolas' joy and laughter. The little Elfling you created in this story is such a wonderful breath of fresh air for these weary Elves. I love it! Thranduil's story about how he acquired the Dorwinion was hilarious. I never thought Thranduil nor Celeborn could be so reckless, but apparently they were. Hearing the story in full was a nice change for usually authors tend to skip over things like that or just tell a bit of the story, leaving much for the reader to imagine. You did a wonderful job! :) I also loved how apparent everyone's love for little Legolas is when he's walking with Glorfindel. He's such a "Ray of Hope" in the dark times. *sigh* I could just hear Legoals' beautiful voice singing in that last chapter. And beautiful it must have been for Glorfindel to feel such a lightening in his heart and of his sorrow. *another sigh* Wonderful job so far. I look forward to reading more! :) You are going to write more, right?

What a delightful story! I've somehow missed this in the past, but I love Thranduil and little Legolas, and Glorfindel is wonderful. The story of the Dorwinion, the bet and the Enchanted River was great fun! Jay

Awwww!!!!!! =)
Fadesintothewest · 6 December 2003 · Chapter 2: Ch 2
Oh that was delightful. Your Thranduil and Glorfindel are so well written and of course who could not love little Legolas! Thanks for the wonderful chapter.

Well, this just keeps getting better! I hope the evil exams have not stripped your mind of all creativity and that we will soon see Chapter 3 to "A Ray of Hope." The friendship between Glorfindel and Thranduil was a wonderful way to explore Chapter 2 and gave your readers great insight to our regal Thranduil (who does not always conduct himself so--good for him). All cozied up with fine wine and trading stories from the past is a good way to spend an evening in a friend's company, and I laughed as much as Glorfindel at Thranduil's means of acquisition of the vintage Dorwinion wine! I am as anxious as young Legolas for more of his father's esteemed companion, so bring on the blond bombshell from Imladris. This is terrific writing - holds the reader's interest, is entertaining, intriging, and definitely whets the appetite for more. So, how about it? Marvelous!

A wonderfully endearing glimpse of Thranduil, Legolas, and Glorfindel. So Legolas finally gets to meet one of his heroes; though I wonder whether Balrogs would really be suitable bedtime fare for elflings. :) Too bad he'll never get to meet Beleg Cuthalion, but that's another story. ~ I've played around with the visions-at-birth idea before, though mostly in Thranduil's regard. Another great story from you ~ please continue if inspired, though I know forced compositions are never as good as they could have been. (Can anyone say, *grammar class*?)

Thanks for the review... :) I recall Tolkien mentioned something about Elven mothers having foresight regarding their children's character and future. In Legolas' case, I took the liberty of manifesting that foresight by means of visions. I'll try to continue this story since everyone does seem to be fond of Glorfindel and little Legolas... or perhaps a different story in the same timeline. Exams are done at the end of the week...*gets up to do a jig* so hopefully there'll be something done by next weekend... :)

This is really good. I love Glorfindel (^_^) and Legolas is adorable. You should continue this.

The Karenator · 26 October 2003 · Chapter 1: A Ray of Hope
I think you "should" continue this after the evil exams. I agree with the other reviewer who said you have a wealth of possibilities to explore. Maybe the plot will come to you during a study session when you should be paying attention to a large tiny print book that is so boring it would make paint peel. Your writing style is smooth and your language is just grand. I, for on, am quite interested in what the glorious golden balrog slayer could get into in Mirkwood. I'll take him off your hands for a few days while you think. He is very distracting....and you do need to study. Good start and full of possibilities. I hope the plot falls on you soon. :>) Karen

Thank you for the review! And as a token of my appreciation, you get another short story tonight!!!.... wasn't really intending to post it, but since everyone seems to have taken Glorfindel very much to heart, he insisted this one get published too...it's called "A Morning in the Valley"... Hope you enjoy it! =) And yes....I have been thinking of possible plots when I oughta be buried deep beneath a pile of textbooks heavier than I am and more boring than you could possibly imagine hehehe....like...what am I doing here now?!?! oh well...;) Thanks again...
Brenda G. · 26 October 2003 · Chapter 1: A Ray of Hope
This was delightful! By all means, do continue. Plotless? Glorfindel is in Mirkwood, among Thranduil's people, healing from battle wounds, and a young Legolas is there to worship the hero of his bedtime stories. You have a wealth of wonder to build a story upon, and if the rest of it is as good as the first of it, you will find yourself a first-rate fan fiction writer with many returning fans. Good work! Keep going...

Thanks so much for taking the time to review my story....the comments are much appreciated and I do believe you've swelled my head just a teensy bit LOL.... At this point, I'm not sure how to continue the story as I have no set plot or grand adventure for this to lead into. Perhaps after these evil exams are over I might attempt a few more chapters... Thanks again....
Tim the Enchanter · 25 October 2003 · Chapter 1: A Ray of Hope
Young Legolas was utterly charming... as was the Balrog Slayer. It must be tough to be a favorite bedtime story!

Thanks for the review...it's always nice to hear from readers... If I get down to continuing this tale I will make sure Glorfindel lives up to his reputation... ;)
