O dear, the things parent will agree to when the are distracted ;)
The twins know him all to well don't they? Elladan does not even mind being corrected if only they can do what they want to.
Author's reply
*Grin* The twins knew they could get to Elrond while he was reading - the grammar lesson was just a bonus that they took advantage of!

Ahh yes, how many times has this happened to a parents chagrin. It's scary isn't it how the dear little ones can read us so well. Another cute slice of life Jay!
Author's reply
I can hear myself saying 'xxxx and I' in that tone - as a parent and as a teacher. The twins are frighteningly fast to take advantage!

*giggles* Oh, that was just too adorable - poor Elrond, mischievous twins tricking him like that!
Author's reply
They hoped he'd be distracted while reading - but the 'El' slip of the tongue proved even better for them. I think E&E make a formidable team :>)

Hehehe. Oh Elrond, you've just been outwitted! Such clever twins - they saw an opening and took complete advantage of it! I love how Elrond, in his distraction, says "El" and especially how this is a joint effort for the twins. Teamwork can really pay off! I really enjoyed this, Jay :-)
Author's reply
I think the twins would be the ultimate double act, and would keep the whole of Imladris on its toes! I must admit, I grinned as I wrote Elrond saying 'El and I'. He proved to be even more distracted than E2 hoped for!

Poor Elrond!
The twins have got the idea - not only distracted but led down the garden path! It's to be hoped that they don't meet Celebrian on their way out - and that they make it back safely before Elrond has to admit that he gave his consent to he knows not what!
But the brilliant smiles are worth it. Probably.
Author's reply
Well, they knew Elrond was distracted, but the grammar lesson was an added bonus. I can just see them as they're fished out of the river: 'But Ada said we could!'

Hehehe! That is hilarious. Good for them! And poor Elrond, he really cannot even blame anyone for that. He fell right into it. Loved it!

They didn't expect quite such a convenient opening, but can certainly take advantage of it!

Wow! Sad! As much as I love any chance to see elves, I never liked the elves at Helms Deep, but this makes me look at it in another light. Great drabble for the occassion, Jay!
Author's reply
I know it wasn't canon, and they shouldn't have been there - but I loved the scene. The hope and awe in the faces of the men was wonderful. Glad you liked this!

Hehehe! I did precisely this many times in the strawberries. Its irresistible. Very cute!

This one was written for a friend's birthday. She writes a lovely young Elladan & Elrohir, and her Elladan has a terrible weakness for strawberries ...

· Chapter 72: Setting Forth
I liked this--a series showing all the Fellowship's thoughts would be really cool. But if I could only have one, I'll definitely take Legolas. :-)
Author's reply
That's an interesting idea - but I don't think I could make them sufficiently different and individual. You'll have to make do with Legolas!

A most appropriate Veterans Day memorial, Jay. Thank you.
Author's reply
Thank you. When I read the whole of 'For The Fallen', the earlier verse just shouted 'Elves at Helm's Deep!' at me.

· Chapter 75: Helm's Deep
Lovely, but very heart-tugging. In every war there are so many for whom there is no hope and no dawn. And, as it is said, those who forget the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them. Of course, there were a lot of lovers of the books who did not like so many changes in the films. But that one WAS a particularly lovely scene. And, Ms.Boyens reminded us in her DVD comments that the elves did fight the war in their own realms as well, so that became a short-hand reminder of that. And, for me, one of the most poignant anti-war statements of all of the movies is that final pan across the elves who have died in that battle... there they lay in their feather-patterned armour, like so many achingly beautiful, fallen birds. As Tolkien said in "The Hobbit" at the end of The Battle of Five Armies, many a merry elf fell who should have yet sung many years in the green wood... Lest we forget! Beautifully done!
Author's reply
I love the scene of the elves arriving at Helm's Deep, even though I know they shouldn't have been there. There are times, even in the darkest hours, when help arrives unlooked for, and despair is turned to hope - like Dunkirk.
And even in those times, there are very many who still do not make it. Thanks for reviewing - I'm glad you liked this.

It's a glorious moment.
And hope's probably the best thing you can have at times like these.
Author's reply
I wrote this a couple of days ago, but it was interesting to see the scene again last night - from the men's expressions, I think it did give them hope again.
And, of course, Hope is quite handy to have around as well!

Thank you. It turned out more hopeful in tone than I intended - but I like to think that the arrival of the elves gave the defenders of Helm's Deep a little more hope.

· Chapter 75: Helm's Deep
I remember the faces of the men (in the movie, of course) when the elves came marching up that causeway...ranging from relief to awe to outright glee, and how the atmosphere seemed to lighten as they came. You had me sniffling at the end of that first verse of the poem and positively blubbering by the time the elves showed up, bringing hope with them (and of course, the end of the poem was the end of me)! So much said with so few words, yet so powerful, especially considering today's date...(my late husband served in the Navy (Viet Nam), making today especially meaningful to me). Thank you for sharing such a wonderful short story, Jay!

I loved that scene, even though I *knew* it shouldn't happen like that! The poem I quoted just seemed so right for that part.
The rest of the poem always makes me shiver when I hear it on Remembrance Day. I didn't know your husband was a veteran, but this is dedicated to him and everyone else who served their county.

absolutely delightful! Of course, they would not keep the important things from each other. And elves were supposed to be close to, and in tune with animals !

*ROTFL*
Poor Elladan, he *had* to misunderstand this! But in this, I'm with Elrohir - I'm talking to my horse, too, though not always so nice, as she can be very stubborn. But I am sure elven horses are not as naughty as our horses and Elrohir *has* to adore his horse, as he is the one who loves them most.
Author's reply
My son used to tell our dog how beautiful she was - and she'd look up with an expression that said 'Yes, I know'.
Poor Elladan, though. Elrohir won't let him forget this!
