Bodkin · 4 July 2006 · Chapter 67: Summer Solstice

Oh yes ... A very good moment to have a reliable babysitter! Very atmospheric.

Author's reply

I don't think Thranduil and Telparian will be back until dawn! At least they know Legolas is in good hands.

nautika · 14 June 2006 · Chapter 55: Old Man Willow

I saw this, along with Starlight has been nominated for a MEF Award and had to take a read. Short, but nice. It gave me chills. I hope the MEF Awards people hear from you before time runs out. Good luck! nautika

Author's reply

Thank you! It was great to be nominated for the MEFAs, and I'm glad you liked this. Poor OMW - I'd never seen him as sad and lonely before I wrote this!

elliska · 7 June 2006 · Chapter 66: Never Again

taste in his mouth like scrapings from the floor of the barn where the hens roosted. and maliciously, deliberately sober Hehehehe! Great! And yuck! This was hilarious. Half-elves probably have a little less tolerance, and it looks like Elrohir found the limit of his tolerance and passed it. Poor thing. :-)

Author's reply

The 'maliciously, deliberately sober' line was my own favourite. Elladan is enjoying this! Elrohir needs to plot his revenge ...

Bodkin · 6 June 2006 · Chapter 66: Never Again

Poor Elrohir! That was very mean of Elladan. Elrohir will just have to assure that there is an occasion for a similar revenge very soon!

Author's reply

Oh, he'll get his revenge, never fear! I'll write it as soon as I know what it is :>) Elladan's glee makes Elrohir feel even worse, of course.

Fire · 5 June 2006 · Chapter 66: Never Again

Now that sounds like a very serious hangover ;) How much does an elf have to drink before getting there?

Author's reply

Elves can probably drink a lot more than we can - but Elrohir just found his limit! I think perhaps some dwarves were visiting Imladris, and that they were involved somewhere ...

Dot · 3 June 2006 · Chapter 66: Never Again

LOL! This is great. I love the description a taste in his mouth like scrapings from the floor of the barn where the hens roosted but I think the best part is Elladan - very sober and very, very much enjoying this! Never again. Yeah, right :-D

Author's reply

At first this was just Elrohir feeling sorry for himself, but it didn't 'feel' right. Then Elladan suddenly appeared, bright eyed and bushy tailed, and not at all sympathetic!

harrowcat · 3 June 2006 · Chapter 66: Never Again

Never again? REally? Want to bet on it?

Author's reply

Probably never again - or at least not very often. The twins have more sense.

Ellie · 3 June 2006 · Chapter 66: Never Again

I loved this line best of all, "maliciously, deliberately sober." How great is that? Wonderful drabble!

Author's reply

Thank you! That was my favourite line as well. Elladan is enjoying this!

daw the minstrel · 2 June 2006 · Chapter 66: Never Again

Nice to know he had the sense to learn from experience! That's better than some human young men I know.

Author's reply

But they say 'never again' every time! I think elves have more sense. For Elrohir, this really is the only time - though if Elladan ever gets himself into this situation, he'll make the most of it!

elliska · 29 May 2006 · Chapter 65: Separate Rooms II

Aawwww! And can you imagine Elrond and Celebrian when they come to check on them?! Too cute!

Author's reply

Elrond and Celebrían will probably wonder why they went to the expense and trouble of providing separate rooms in the first place!

Bodkin · 29 May 2006 · Chapter 65: Separate Rooms II

It was very kind of Elladan not to let Elrohir suffer the pangs of loneliness. Self-sacrificing. (Not.) I expect they'll still spend most of their nights together for a good while. But they can have their own space if they need it - and they will grow into it.

Author's reply

It was kind of him to check on how his brother was feeling, wasn't it? They will have their own rooms eventually, with a shared middle room as a study/workroom/lounge. I've also said in previous stories that if one of them is ever injured, they go back to sharing a room.

Larner · 28 May 2006 · Chapter 65: Separate Rooms II

Trust love and brotherhood. I've seen this.

Author's reply

They're twins. What's more to say? (Although real twins have told me that they didn't have any such problems - they just left the adjoining door open all the time!)

Fire · 28 May 2006 · Chapter 65: Separate Rooms II

Somehow I think the twins will never really have a room completely for themselves. There will always be one sleeping in with the other :)

Author's reply

They do eventually have their own rooms. This phase won't last long :)

Ellie · 28 May 2006 · Chapter 65: Separate Rooms II

That's sweet! I can so see brothers doing that, wanting to be so big a tough and then of course phrasing it like Elladan was doing Elrohir the favor. Well done!

Author's reply

Well, of course it wasn't that Elladan was feeling lonely, was it??

Faye · 28 May 2006 · Chapter 65: Separate Rooms II

“El? I came to see if you were all right. If you were feeling lonely – it’s the first time you’ve been on your own.” He swallowed. “Do you want me to stay tonight? I can sleep on the floor.” That was great, Elladan is so very kind. I also like how he misses Elrohir's complaining about the untidiness.

Author's reply

There was a line in the previous drabble about Elrohir not liking Elladan's 'clutter'. It seemed a good link between the two. Elladan is being very ... protective here, isn't he?

daw the minstrel · 28 May 2006 · Chapter 65: Separate Rooms II

Well wasn't that kind of Elladan? :-) Separation for these two will be achieved slowly if at all.

Author's reply

Elladan was being very considerate of poor, lonely Elrohir, wasn't he? Do you think he fooled anyone? I have it on authority from RL twins that they had no problems like this - they just left the adjoining door open all the time ...

TithenFeredir · 23 May 2006 · Chapter 64: Separate Rooms

Oh, that was nicely put. Now, IF they managed to stay apart all night, it would be interesting to see them meet again in the morning. Would either of them admit his own loneliness? ~TF

Author's reply

If is the big question. Wait and see!

TithenFeredir · 23 May 2006 · Chapter 63: The Shortcut

Heh-heh...I can imagine those two stuck on a cliff face, trying to maintain their dignity while being rescued by a group of highly amused dwarves. Poor things! ~TF

Author's reply

*Sigh* I often wish I could draw, so I could draw a picture of how I saw this! E&E just hope that no-one at home ever finds out.

TithenFeredir · 23 May 2006 · Chapter 62: Kite Flying

So cute! I like the joke about the twins' showing Estel "how its' done", but the image that lingers for me is of Elrohir hanging by one hand, unperturbed, probably bobbing slowly up and down after saving himself from the fall. LOL! ~TF

Author's reply

The same image was in my mind as I wrote this. Unperturbed? Well, Elrohir may be, but the other two aren't! That fall could have resulted in a very long drop.

Bodkin · 22 May 2006 · Chapter 64: Separate Rooms

I'll bet they didn't spend the whole night apart. Not for a while. Probably having their own space for moments during the day would be the best thing about separate rooms. But it'd take some getting used to!

Author's reply

I'll bet they didn't spend the whole night apart. You're right. I was thinking about this last night, and think there will be a part two very soon!

elliska · 21 May 2006 · Chapter 64: Separate Rooms

Poor Elrohir--sometimes things aren't always entirely what they are cracked up to be. Again I am struck by how much you say with so few words. Very dear!

Author's reply

Poor Elrohir is right - he wasn't expecting this. I think Elladan will be feeling the same way!

Larner · 21 May 2006 · Chapter 64: Separate Rooms

Oh, how typical of twins!

Author's reply

:>) I hope so. I'm working on instinct here, but it's how I can see Elladan and Elrohir reacting.

Larner · 21 May 2006 · Chapter 63: The Shortcut

A lovely use of that passage from the books used by other characters. Quite a difference from Strider's assertion that his cuts, long or short, don't go wrong.

Author's reply

I think the twins were quite young when that happened, but Elladan has never let his brother forget it. They have more sense and experience now! One of the things I'm enjoying about the 50 Passages challenge is using the prompts in such different settings.

daw the minstrel · 21 May 2006 · Chapter 64: Separate Rooms

I understand the loneliness, but some nights I'd give anything to get away from the snoring!

Author's reply

Oh, I know what you mean! I find a kick on the shin helps :>)

Fire · 21 May 2006 · Chapter 64: Separate Rooms

For twins it is always a mixed blessing, a bedroom for themselves and you put it in words very well.

Author's reply

Thanks for reviewing! Elrohir is beginning to want the independence of being just 'Elrohir', not 'ElladanandElrohir' - but it's a big step.
