Agape4Gondor · 25 July 2007 · Chapter 65: Separate Rooms II

Even better than the last one!!!!

pipinheart · 25 July 2007 · Chapter 89: Pride Goeth ...

Elrohir has a hard head...good thing too. ANd the flower's are the color of her eyes...cute.... well done..

Author's reply

Yes, Elrohir's lucky he only knocked himself out - he could have broken his neck! He's got a crush on Taniquel though, and has a romantic streak, so of *course* he picked the flowers for her! Jay

Agape4Gondor · 25 July 2007 · Chapter 64: Separate Rooms

Aw! And too quiet too! Nice little look at the twins....

viggomaniac · 25 July 2007 · Chapter 76: Grammar Lessons

Delightfully clever. And so realistic...

viggomaniac · 25 July 2007 · Chapter 81: Meeting In Bree

Poor Aragorn. How they do beset him!

viggomaniac · 25 July 2007 · Chapter 78: Parental Ambitions

I like these and their brevity makes them pretty easy to read. This one is quite poignant -- all those dreams never come to fruition.

viggomaniac · 25 July 2007 · Chapter 77: All The Wrong Notes

Who could not love that? You brought a smile to my face.

Ces · 25 July 2007 · Chapter 89: Pride Goeth ...

I've always wondered if Taniquel and Elrohir get married? I love your stories that bring those two together! And I wish you'd let Legolas and Arwen get together just like Thranduil and Celebrian were scheming to do!

Author's reply

I've not written it, but I think they will marry one day. Taniquel will have to be a little careful what she says, though - Elrohir is rather impressionable at the moment! Legolas and Arwen? I think they'd be perfect together. What was Tolkien thinking of?? Jay

Larner · 25 July 2007 · Chapter 89: Pride Goeth ...

Ah, the foolishness of those intent on impressing the opposite sex! Two tiny flowers chosen solely for their color almost led to a concussion or worse! And yet he holds them still, ready to present when she should return.... Lovely thought.

Author's reply

How he managed to hold on to the flowers I don't know - but this seems typical of Elrohir :>)

Aislynn Crowdaughter · 15 June 2007 · Chapter 80: No Smoking

Hehe! poor Strider! and I was wondering what Strider would make out of it Become king and lift the ban by royal decree. Now we finally know why he agreed to embrace his destiny! (*snort*) Thank you for a well-needed laugh!

Ellie · 13 June 2007 · Chapter 88: The Outsider

How very sad and lonely for him! You captured it all quite well, as usual.

Karate-Elf · 13 June 2007 · Chapter 83: Breaking

Oh my goodness, that was just so powerful! Good job! I loved it!

Larner · 13 June 2007 · Chapter 88: The Outsider

I had to reread it about three times for it to click--and then it fell into its place and its meaning. A very good one, Jay--good indeed.

elliska · 13 June 2007 · Chapter 88: The Outsider

Aragorn's had to be a seriously lonely life. It is easy to see how he would feel isolated when he was traveling in far away lands, but I think you captured here his real isolation--right where he should have been at home. He had a hard life and deserved the rewards he got in the end. Great drabble.

Bodkin · 2 June 2007 · Chapter 87: The Darkness Behind

Thus boosting each other's confidence. Definitely the way forward in such an unappealing place.

Author's reply

*Grr!* This is another review alert I never got!! I think they must both have felt the presence of the Dead clustering so close behind. Who wouldn't feel uneasy? It's not a time to walk alone.

elliska · 28 May 2007 · Chapter 87: The Darkness Behind

I am really enjoying these strictly canon drabbles you have done the last few times. You have been picking out some of my favorite parts of the books. The company's reaction to the Path of the Dead is another thing that I always loved re-reading and I like the part of it that you singled out here. Indeed, a fascinating pairing. I'd like to see this expanded a bit to allow getting even deeper into both their heads. Well done!

Author's reply

I like canon moments that still leave room for exploration. Tolkien tells us that Legolas was the only one who did not fear the Dead - so what did the others think about the Dead following them? This pairing of Elladan and Gimli has intrigued me - I like to write different characters.

Elena Tiriel · 28 May 2007 · Chapter 82: Before The Gate

Squeeeeeeeeeeee! *Re-reads* Double squeeeeeee! I love it! thank you so much, Jay! Hunky twins! Canon! *happy sigh* And I apologize for not thanking you earlier... RL has kept me away from the fandom for a while now.... - Barbara

Author's reply

Thank you - I'm really glad you liked this. Twins and canon - what could be better? You might also enjoy the latest drabble 'The Darkness Behind' with Elladan and Gimli on the Paths Of The Dead. Don't worry about the late reply - I hope RL is better now!

Lindelea · 27 May 2007 · Chapter 87: The Darkness Behind

Ah, lovely. Shouldn't be spending time reading, at the moment, but I have a weakness for pure canon.

Author's reply

I'm glad I could distract you :>)

ellie · 26 May 2007 · Chapter 87: The Darkness Behind

I liked this. For some reason I am intrigued by the idea that Elladan has a bit of the frights in the Paths of the Dead and he handles it so well by asking Gimli to walk with him. Nicely done, as always.

Author's reply

Tolkien said that Legolas was the only one not to fear the Dead. Elladan, at the rear with the Dead following behind him, *must* have got the creeps. (And I wonder where Elrohir was? Tolkien doesn't say.)

Dreamflower · 26 May 2007 · Chapter 87: The Darkness Behind

Beautiful and atmospheric! I imagine it was just that way!

Author's reply

Tolkien tells us that they all felt the dread (except Legolas) - so why not Elladan?

Larner · 26 May 2007 · Chapter 87: The Darkness Behind

At the rear, if not quite--and a wonderful pairing it is. It works very well indeed.

Author's reply

I like to explore canon moments like this, and wondered what Elladan would make of Gimli creeping along behind him. Thank you!

elliska · 6 May 2007 · Chapter 86: Beware Of The Sea

I love this! The sea longing and Galadriel's prediction and Legolas's reaction to it have always been some of my favorite things to contemplate from LotR. Great drabble. You captured a lot with very few words here.

Author's reply

Reading the Galadriel's words and the Pelargir scene again, no wonder Legolas thought it foretold his death. I still wonder if Tolkien meant to kill him there, then thought better of it!

elliska · 6 May 2007 · Chapter 85: Starlight & Darkness

Wonderful! Childhood memories like that would indeed be dear at such moments. Aragorn had such a difficult life. It is good to think he had such memories to sustain him, and having been raised where he was, of course he did.

Author's reply

Aragorn and Gilraen may have been the only humans in Rivendell, but I'm certain he would have been loved and nurtured there. I love to imagine the twins as doting older brothers :>)

Bodkin · 1 May 2007 · Chapter 86: Beware Of The Sea

I'm not sure that, in some ways, he wouldn't find this slow death worse. Because the consequence is the same - the loss of the forest and a new life in the West.

Author's reply

It's also something totally unexpected. As a warrior, he must have expected to die in battle one day, and been prepared for that, especially after Galadriel's words. The loss of the forest and his peace of mind must have been like a bereavement.

Larner · 24 April 2007 · Chapter 86: Beware Of The Sea

No, not the doom he'd foreseen, but the harbinger of the fact he will rejoice fully again only when he passes over the Sundering Seas, even if that rejoicing is touched by greater sunderings brought about by the deaths of those among mortals he has become so close to.

Author's reply

It's scenes like this that remind me what a wonderfully rich tapestry Tolkien wove. Legolas followed Aragorn even though he thought it would lead to his death, and then sacrificed his peace of mind.
