Ack! Evil, evil woman ;)
Legolas' powers must be contagious or something, because I just knew that Harberd was going to be the one, and it was not a good feeling...all that stuff about being a guard "having its advantages" and his questions was very creepy—I just wanted to yell, "Get out of there, already!" at Legolas and Gimli :)
Interesting how it was an action motivated by reflexive helpfulness that was to give his secret away...
You'd just better not get Legolas or Gimli killed, that's all! *grin*
Looking forward to the next update: I think it's just reading fanfic that gets me through my exams (and will probably lead to my failure in them, too, but do I *look* worried? ;) )
Author's reply
Well, no hints about how Legolas and Gimli are going to get out of this, but let's just say all hell's breaking loose next chapter. *chuckles evilly* Thank you for the review. Hope the fic helped you get through finals... I know how beastly they can get... Thanks again!

Oh my gosh! You are a *very* talented writer of fanfic, and I've read quite a few. The way you portray Legolas is very.....refreshing compared to many other stories I've read (example: Legolas falling in love with a Mary-Sue, Legolas getting "overcome with lust" and...um....doing things to Mary-Sue[s], etc. etc.) Very catchy story, and I can't wait (read: CAN'T. WAIT.) till the next chapter, so please, pretty please post more soon! :P

Once again, this is truly excellent and I am throughly enjoying this. :)

NOT COOL...NOT COOL AT ALL! There really ought to be a law against evil cliffies.....Evil laughter, huh? You and a couple of others I read just live to leave their readers gasping and dying (literally) to know WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN NEXT?!!!!!! *breathe...breathe...it's ok...the elf will get through this...repeat...the elf..* ummm, 'scuse me...meant to review...not freak out!
That outburst by Aragorn was to be expected, I guess. Legolas' remarkable tunnel-vision where the murders are concerned would be hard for his friends to understand and support, given his deteriorating health. I was glad he wanted to set things right before his group left...and sorry that he didn't. I just knew when that captain assigned what's his name...Haberd?... to Legolas and Gimli, that HE WAS THE ONE! Then of course, he started quizzing Legolas about elven powers...So, mellon nin, what does he do now? Granted, Gimli is there...but I'm getting a bad feeling about their isolation from the rest of the patrols. I am really ready for the dwarf to do some heavy-duty smiting and get rid of this guy before something bad happens. Too easy? Yeah, I thought so, too. Knowing you, the next chapter will be the end...of me! :) With that in mind...great chapter...lots of tension and angst-among-friends-action, and now, the killer is unmasked! I have only one thing further to add...update soon, 'ere I die!!!!! ;)

Ah, lovely chapter...Eowyn finally comes to an understanding about Legolas' gift. I must admit, I was rather peeved at her attitude towards him in earlier chapters...an ex-shieldmaiden and all, I mean, REALLY!!!! Then I thought it was probably an overload of those pregnancy hormones attacking her good sense! :) Anyway their conversation was just right, and after Legolas had sat there convincing himself he was loosing his mind, I could almost feel his relief when she professed to believe in him. It's times like he's going through when his friends are going to have to hold him up...I mean, he's just exhausted! I dearly loved the final scene when Legolas connects with the baby...so very sweet, and a girl, too! :)

I'm really enjoying your story. I'm always looking for a good angsty Legolas story. I'm also a huge fan of Legolas and all the elves, actually, as if you couldn't tell by my name. I told my family I wanted an elf for Christmas, hence the name. Not sure how my husband felt about that, but, oh well, I didn't get one anyway. So, I just spend my free time reading about them. Sigh! I'm up to Chapter 10 and the story is great and well-written. I'm looking forward to continuing. When I first started reading I was a little worried Legolas was going to come out of his coma with evil powers. I'm glad that wasn't the case. I have a hard time with fan fics where Lego is evil. Keep up the great work but don't forget to study. That's the Mom in me talking. I'm constantly having to drag my 14 year old daughter off the computer to get her to do her homework. She's the one responsible for turning me on to LOTR and fan fic in the first place. Actually, I just kick her off so I can get on!

For some reason, my author alerts haven't been working recently so I only found out about the last four chapters when I got an alert for the last one, started reading it and realised that it wasn't making sense ;) The good side was that I got to read them all in quick succession, and saved myself the suspense!
The way you described Legolas' visions is brilliant, and getting that insight into the mind of the killer was really interesting, in a very chilling way. I'm always fascinated by people's motivations, and that allowed us to see into his thoughts, without actually having to reveal his identity, or whatever.
I was very relieved that Erien was safe, but I don't know if I'll buy Éowyn's explanation: I did think of several others, but none of them really hold water :)
The little moment when he discovers the sex of the baby was very cute! I'm glad you put it in.
The thing that is worrying me most is the continuous reference to Legolas' weakening state, and the fact that his powers are draining him...don't let him die or anything, will you? :P
Looking forward to the next chapter!

Hi, again!
Early on I told you of my mom's experience in a coma. Sorry I haven't reviewed again since then, but I've been on pins and needles for every chapter!
My dad and brother both have beautiful, elaborate canes made for them by my uncle, who was a master woodcraftsman and made canes for every sitting president since the 60's. When I read of Legolas' cane, in my mind's eye I see my dad's cane he uses for "dress" occasions. :-) It's funny: I can relate to much of the story (not to the killer) through various people in my family, one way or another.
My dad was in an accident and my brother was born with spina bifida. We've had to deal with withered legs off and on for years. My dad had a severed muscle in his leg from the accident, but only part of the muscle (his calf) was cut. That part didn't quite heal and so it has a dent in it. He was in traction for 100 days, and his muscles did atrophy during that time. But after getting on his feet he built the muscle back. I would think that Legolas, who didn't have severed muscles, would be gaining some muscle mass back, so that maybe soon you can describe him as "thin" or "somewhat frail", but I doubt that he would be emaciated too much longer, even if the powers do weaken him.
And I have my suspicians as to why he failed to predict Erin's death... ;-) a couple of possibilities: either he is healing and his powers are beginning to fade and becoming inacurrate, or the brouhaha with all the soldiers around foiled the killer's plans. Or maybe a bit of both.
Anyhow, keep the chapters coming!!!
Smiles,
TieAillin

Up one street and down another! Back and forth! If the elf doesn't take more care, he's going to kill himself with all this running around...forget the visions! :) Good, good chapter...lots of tension...of course he's precognitive now - seeing the future rather than the past, right? Right? RIGHT? Another cliffie...I tell ya, I hate 'em! (well, sort of...). Good idea to let Legolas see through the eyes of the killer, now he has an idea of the feel of the guy and would recognize any flashes he might get later on...I guess. Poor Gimli...I always love the way he calls Legolas "Elf" with such impatience. It's almost like an endearing nickname now. :) Update soon...I gotta go or would fill a couple of pages reviewing...however, am weak 'cos of this "evil cliffie" *hinthint* Update soon, please?

· Chapter 11: Visions From the Dead
I started reading this last week and have not been reviewing (sorry...I intend to try and remedy that, this is so good!), but in light of your little note at the end I felt like you needed some reassurance. Based on his previous experiences with his new gift, it only stands to reason that if Legolas touched the girl's body, he would experience her murder in some way. The fact that it was from her point of view only highlights the heinous nature of the act, and the absolute necessity of finding the murderer. I kind of thought when Aragorn requested Legolas' help, that this might happen, and had to cry when I read it. He's suffered so much already, to be held in the grip of evil like that would be a tremendous blow to his still-healing body, mind, and emotions. But he's strong...I'll just hope for the best as the story progresses. I think you did a good job of illustrating this new-found power (gift) that Legolas now has. (I've read a murder mystery in which a psychic witnesses horrible murders throught the eyes of the murderer...makes for some unbelievable tension...). Now, can Legolas harness his gift to the extent he needs to help everyone, including himself? Terrific story (altho' I hate it when the elf gets tormented...but he does seem to draw that kind of attention). :-)

I was kinda worried about actually posting it, but I'm glad you were able to see what I was trying to get across by Legolas actually "experiencing" the girl's rape and murder. Just a little bit of advice.
Fiance is the male; fiancee is the female. Of course,
since it is a French word, there is an "accent acute" over the
e in fiance, but most English word processors don't allow that.
Check it out in the dictionary. ^_^
Author's reply
I actually wasn't aware that there was a difference in spelling for the same meaning for each sex. thanks for the heads up. Though, I guess if we wanted to get technical, I doubt there was any French back in Middle Earth! :P Thanks for the review as always!

· Chapter 12: A Sudden Flash
As always, very suspenseful and very well done!
Just some comments.
"..Legolas tinkered on the edge of death....". The word
"tinkered" I believe comes from the verb to tinker, as in a tinker,
a man who worked with metal and fixed things (like metal pots) for
a living. It means to attempt to fix things, usually in an indolent
way. As far as I know, it doesn't have the meaning I would expect
from the sentence. Teetered is a word that means to waver to an fro,
as on the brink of a cliff, but perhaps it doesn't have the right sound.
I get the impression you wanted a verb that implied a wavering motion,
swaying back and forth, but I don't believe tinkered is the right word.
Anyway, always check the dictionary.
Also, "...Thranduil was unmoved from his son's...." made me think of
the expression to be moved emotionally by something, so that in this
instance I had the impression that Thranduil was not moved, or
unmoved; that is, he wasn't emotionally swayed by something. I think you
meant to convey the meaning that Thranduil was in no mood to be
asked to leave his son, but the current words in the story don't seem
to accomplish this. At least, that was my impression.
Personally, I was dismayed to hear that Elrond thought this power of
Legolas was draining his strength. As if he doesn't have enough problems!
So, now we are expecting him to die after returning from a coma?
I hope not. That little bit of plot only made it even more remote that
Legolas would 1) recover his former strength or 2) lose this power or
3) be given control over it. That is, the future doesn't look very good
for (my favorite) character. Oh, well. One can always hope.
Again, my congratulations on your power to control the suspense in this
story. Not an easy task! I will continue to hope for the best for
Legolas.
Author's reply
Once again, as always, thank you for the grammatical critique. I shall have to actually fix those one day. This of course assuming I'll actually remember, or go to the effort of actually doing so. I'm sometimes very lazy as you can see... :P Anyway, Legolas' little problem with his energy being drained by his powers will come up more later on, though I will not tell you exactly how the story will turn out. ^_^ Secrets secrets! Aha! You're one of *them*. Forgiveness is given though since you have finally come out of hiding. ^_^ Tough I wrote in the tavern's name as an extra little tie in, I didn't want to make a huge point out of it.
