What a great way for ending the chapter... So the tavern their in now is the tavern where the first girl worked at?

Yeah! You remembered! Two brownie points for you! Thanks for the review! Signing out -LAXgirl

Elerrina · 4 May 2004 · Chapter 10: At the Golden Goblet

I remembered! I'm so glad to see Legolas up and about again! Theomir is a real wee darling...is the new baby going to make an appearance at all? You mean this wasn't the real plot? *looks confused* But I liked it ;) Thank you for updating so frequently—how DO you do it?!? Elerrína (who likes cute babies!)

Author's reply

Two brownie points for you too for remembering! And yes, you gotta love little Theomir. I kinda felt he needed at least one more cameo appearance. The new baby may or may not be showing up, but you're just going to have to wait for future chapters just like everybody else! ^_^ And in answer to your last question, I can update so fast is because I had all the chapters already written because I'm an author on fanfiction.net and decided to also post my writing here at storiesofarda. If you are interested, I have two other LOTR storie under my ff.net name (same as here, LAXgirl) that you can check out. Well, thanks for reading! Signing out -LAXgirl

I haven't actually read the last two chapters, but the rest have been rather interesting and I've enjoyed having something to break up the monotony of studying for horrible exams. Yikes, I should be doing that right now. Anyway, keep up the good work.

Author's reply

Exams? Studying? Yes, yes, I can understand completely. I just finished finals week and seriously fanfiction was the only thing that saved my sanity from the monotony of studying as you so elloquently put it! ^_^ Hope you get to read other chapters soon, and don't study too hard! lol Thanks for the review! Yay! Legolas is mobile again! I am glad Gimli's cane came in useful.:) Umm, I have to confess though, the name of the Golden Goblet did sound familiar, but I am afraid I am getting the murder part of this story mixed up with another one...:/ I will have to go back and read chapter 3 again.:)Another great chapter! I can't wait for the next one!:) Namarië, ~Lossenchristal

Author's reply

The name of the Golden Goblet really isn't that important, but I thought it would be a nice tie in. Check chapter "Chronicle of Years" in the part with the first girl's murder if you want to find out. Thanks for reading and for the review! Signing out -LAXgirl

Lossenchristal · 4 May 2004 · Chapter 9: A Father's Joy and Despair

Ok, sorry I am late on reviewing this one. I am making myself review it before I read the next chapter!:) See, I knew it was Thranduil!;) I loved it when Legolas was able to accept his father's embrace without worrying about his new powers. Now we have to see how Thranduil reacts when he actually witnesses or experiences the effects of Legolas's power! I guess I should read the next chapter now! Here I go.... Namarië, ~Lossenchristal

Lyn · 4 May 2004 · Chapter 9: A Father's Joy and Despair

Excellent character development. Excellent story! Just a few suggestions: reins are used to control a horse. As a verb, you could say the horse was reined in. reign and reigns and reigned all refer to the time a King or Queen is in power. Sheer---1) almost transparent 2) unusual or exaggerated as in the sheer audacity of a person. Shear is only for cutting with a scissors (shearing sheep) laid always goes with an object. That is, yesterday I laid the book down. There are many books that have laid there. lain is for people or animals. As in, I lie down, I lay down, and I have lain there. Also I am lying there. (Kind of strange sentences, I know.) Another thing I like about your story is, it is easy to follow. I don't get tripped up or slowed down by words or unclear paragraphs. Although, I must admit I wouldn't mourn the loss of "gods" in future chapters. ^_^

Author's reply

Well thanks... i guess... I wasn't really aware that I had that bad of a grip on the English language... Thank you though for pointing those things out, though I already know most of those grammatical rules... I guess I was typing too fast when I was writing and didn't catch them. That happens a lot especially with some things like to, too, and two. I always try to check my work, but sometimes mistakes like those slip through. Thanks again for the review. Signing out -LAXgirl

Lossenchristal · 1 May 2004 · Chapter 8: Forgiveness and Friendship

Aww, what a nice chapter! I love it when friends make up!:) Gimli is so sweet to make that cane for Legolas! And it looks like he and Aragorn are finally beginning to accept Legolas for who he is after his long coma. I know(from your hints) that they still have no idea of his true powers, or the full extent of them, but at least they are willing to try and help him.:) Oooh, Thranduil is coming next chapter? (see, I guessed!;) I can't wait! I am really enjoying this story. Please continue soon!:) Namarië, ~Lossenchristal

Author's reply

I'm glad you like Aragorn and Legolas' little make up. And you just gotta love Gimli. I love that little dwarf... But anyway... Thranduil? Why ever do you think Thranduil would be coming? I mean, that discription I gave could have been almost anyone! We'll just have to see next chapter then now won't we? Till then! Thanks for the review! Signing out -LAXgirl

Lyn · 1 May 2004 · Chapter 5: A Simple Touch

I just started reading this, and it's really well written! Just one suggestion---five days in a coma would have been enough because someone in a coma cannot eat or drink and would die from malnutrition. Don't believe those fangirl stories about "reflex swallowing" when some liquid is poured into an unconscious person's throat. That's totallly WRONG! The relaxed throat allows the liquid to enter the trachea (air pipe) and thence into the lungs, causing pneumonia. It does NOT enter the esophagus (the path to the stomach). Sorry, but that's the medical truth. So, "five days in a coma" would make this a classic. I'm not a doctor, just an R.N. but ask your family doctor. It's only since modern times with feeding tubes and intravenous fluid replacement that people can be kept alive while in a coma.

Author's reply

Ha ha! Hey thanks for the review. Yeah, I guess back then it would have been almost impossible for them to keep a person alive in a coma that long, but I kinda had to go out on a limb for Legolas' coma. And besides that, where's the fun in only five days? I mean, you gotta have some kind of angst in a story like this! ^_^ Thank you though for the insight on comas and reflex swallowing. I guess i can try to BS my way through this by saying that there were elves watching over Legolas so they were able to contrive some special way of feeding him that would have kept him from drowning or choking to death! Hey! Come on... Give me a little credit for trying, eh? ^_^ lol. Thanks again for the review. I really appreciate you pointing out that aspect of the story. Till next time! Signing out -LAXgirl

Alina · 1 May 2004 · Chapter 8: Forgiveness and Friendship

Hey, how do you suppose we can guess when you give us hardly any clue at all?!? Hehehe, I´m curious how you´ll portray Thranduil, there are so many different takes on his character and so much could happen when he finds out about Legolas´ powers - it´s actually amazing that Thranduil would not demand Legolas to be brought to Mirkwood after the accident. But then again, he must have known that if Elrond could not help, nobody would. Anyway, another great chapter. I love the way you have Legolas deal with his problmes - both of his "sight" and his unhappy friend. And Gimli´s friendship is perfectly captured - great job! Alina

Author's reply

Yes, Thranduil I think would have probably wanted to bring Legolas back home to Mirkwood with him, but like you said, he would have been better taken care of with Elrond there, and it would have probably been all but impossible to transport an unconscious elf through the wilds between Minas Tirith to Mirkwood. Alina · 30 April 2004 · Chapter 7: Hurt and Healing

Poor elf! I think his frustration with his inabilities is so very believable, as is the twins´ slightly insensitive reaction to him trying to braid his hair. They want to help (and do so a lot!) but they cannot really grasp what this means to him. And Eowyn - I am afraid her reaction foreshadows that of many others. The way he has changed is difficult to accept - but most of all for himself. I loved the way the little boy drew Legolas out of his misery - a child´s innocnece may be just what he needs to have around! Great chapter, I´m looking forward to the next. Alina

Author's reply

The twins weren't really trying to be insensitive. Legolas is just very sensitive about his inabilities right now. Don't worry, they're not going to give up on his just yet. The twins'll help Legolas out of this. And yes... you gotta love how little kids can brighten anyone's day like that. Thanks for reading and hope you like any future chapters! Till then! -LAXgirl

sofia · 29 April 2004 · Chapter 7: Hurt and Healing

I'm so glad the Theo got Legolas out of his funk. All his friends seem to be afraid of him, but do they even try to figure out what he thinks of it all?

Author's reply

Yes, that little child sure does have a way with people. Legolas' friends really aren't scared of him in the true sense of the word, but perhaps just a little bit more wary of him now. They're trying to understand him, but its going to take some time for them to get Legolas' new powers. Something to sink you're teeth into for later on: in fact several of them are going to ask Legolas to actually use his powers to help them with a certain problem that's been going on for the last couple years... Keep a look out for future chapters and thanks for reading! Signing out -LAXgirl

Chibi-Kaz · 29 April 2004 · Chapter 7: Hurt and Healing

Hey there. Interesting adaptation of The Dead Zone for Middle Earth. I think one detail you've left out is that a certain amount of Second Sight is normal in Arda; Faramir has it. I suppose precognition is a bit different than what you're going for, but from the original DeadZone movie, Johnny had visions of both the past and the future, just more specific than what Faramir experiences. Perhaps you could use that kinship to explain Faramir's easy acceptance of Legolas's new abilities. And you might use that to have Faramir help Legolas, too. Just some thoughts. Cheers, Chibi-Kaz

Author's reply

Yes. I guess you're right about Faramir and other such characters (ie Galadriel, Elrond, etc, even Boromir I do believe...)showing some signs of second sight, but like you also said, none of their dreams or visions were anything like what Legolas is capable of, and, if i do say so myself, a little more unnatural and frightening in nature... Thanks for liking the story and seeing the Dead Zone connection. Stephen King rocks my world! He's my undisputed favorite author! Thanks again, hope you like future chapters as well! Lossenchristal · 29 April 2004 · Chapter 7: Hurt and Healing

Whew! I am so glad this whole chapter was not a Legolas-throwing-a-tantrum-and-very-depressed story:) Theomir was the perfect remedy! I loved it!:) And now Eowyn believes in what Legolas can do! Ooh, I am all the more eager for the next chapter! A very exciting and interesting story. Please keep it up!;) Namarië, ~Lossenchristal

Author's reply

Ha ha! I know what you mean. I mean, though it is only natural that after coming out of a coma like Legolas had and finding his life so radically changed that he would be intitled to a bout of depression, I just couldn't see him as staying in it forever. Glad you liked Theomir! Signing out - LAXgirl

Alina · 28 April 2004 · Chapter 6: Fear and Doubt

Another very touching chapter. I´m glad Gimli comes to Legolas´ defense in a way, but on the other hand his ínteraction with Elrond was - scary. I wonder how the mighty elf lord will react to someone ´being more powerful than him, in his own way. I´m very curious how this will continue! Alina

Lossenchristal · 28 April 2004 · Chapter 6: Fear and Doubt

Hi! Sorry I didn't review the last chapter. I was having computer problems yesterday:( I loved it, and this one as well. I don't have any profound comments or observations;) but I want you to know that I am really enjoying your story, and I look forward to the next update eagerly!:) Namarië, ~Lossenchristal

Creashuns · 27 April 2004 · Chapter 5: A Simple Touch

WOW! I love this story, Very original without being over the top. Keep up the good work - and thank you for the quick updates!!

Author's reply

Why, thank you... You're making me blush! Ha ha... Anyway keep on the look out for future quick updates for the next couple days. I still have seven or more chapters to go to catch up to where i am. Thanks for reading! -LAXgirl

Jay of Lasgalen · 27 April 2004 · Chapter 5: A Simple Touch

I'm glad to see Legolas is at least awake, if not well, yet. But I wonder what other visions he will see? The way he panicked when the twins touched him makes me wonder what lies in store for them. And poor Gimli! I hope his people can cope with this disaster. Jay

Author's reply

Have no fear! More visions are on the way! Remember those mysterious murders in the third chapter that I just seemed to randomly put in there? Yeah, well, those will be coming more into play soon, so keep an eye out for it. Thanks for reading! -LAXgirl

sofia · 27 April 2004 · Chapter 5: A Simple Touch

wow....i think that Kim's statement have made the people realize Legolas isnt crazy...

Author's reply

Hmmm... perhaps... But there's always room for scepticism in things like this. I'll tell you now not everyone is just going to believe in Legolas' powers so easily. They're going to need some more first-hand proof... Thanks for reading! -LAXgirl

Alina · 27 April 2004 · Chapter 5: A Simple Touch

Now that´s what I call "memory overflow". Poor Legolas! So many bad news at once. I guess it must have been worst to have no-one believe him. That´s terrible. And then being forced to sleep again after five years of sleeping - not nice at all! I only hope that Legolas will not lose his trust in his friends because of the way the treated him. And that they will not become afraid of him like Gimli was. I wonder what would happen if he touched Eowyn´s stomach, would he sense her child? Oh well, I´ll just wait for your next update. This is an intriguing story, I love it! Alina

Author's reply

Well, some are going to believe him and some are still going to need some convincing before they truly believe in Legolas' new powers. But don't worry about Gimli though... that little dwarf isn't going to give up on his friend so easily. He's just going to need time to get used to the idea of his friend once again being awake and his strange new powers... Thanks for reading! -LAXgirl

sofia · 26 April 2004 · Chapter 4: Lifting of Darkness

How exciting. I loved it!.... Update soon!

Elerrina · 26 April 2004 · Chapter 4: Lifting of Darkness

Hey! I'm really enjoying this story (just read it all in one go!): it's interesting, well-written and has lots of Elves— what more could a girl want? ;) I'm glad that Legolas has woken up now, and am looking forward to finding out what all your rather ominous predictions have been pointing towards :) One thing that I did wonder about was, is it going to be AU? I think it was Elrond not leaving that confused me :) Pleas keep writing! Elerrína

Author's reply

He he he *chuckling evily under breath* Oh, just wait till chapter five, and then see what "ominous predictions" I have in store... Bwa ha ha! *lightening flashes and thunder breaks in background* Oops... sorry about that. Got a little too carried away there... ^_^ Anyway, I'm not going to say anything more on the issue. You're just going to have to wait till next chapter like everyone else! ^_^ Hmm... I guess this is a little AU, but that's just because Elrond's still here. Other than that, no. Everything else is still canon. Galadriel, Gandalf, Frodo, and Bilbo all sailed to the Undying Lands. I'm pretty sure I made up a somewhat reasonable explanation why Elrond didn't sail with them in the third chapter when he and Thranduil were talking outside of the House of Healing right before Thranduil left. I wanted to have one of the elf-lords (perferably one with some respect and magical power)to be there to give his own insight into Legolas' new powers (which will come up in later chapters), and Elrond just seemed like the logical choice to me.

Lusha · 26 April 2004 · Chapter 4: Lifting of Darkness

I'm not really sure what to say...I really enjoyed the story, in that I actually read all of it. A story has to be exceptional for me to read all of it - and I guess yours qualified (ha ha). On the other hand - I must protest treating our favorite prince in this horribly cruel way! Five years without him is more than any of us can bear. Too painful. (therefore a good ploy - your readers will read on to make sure you wake him up and return him to his former state) Also, I would plead that his recuperation is bearable and not so painful that your readers (this one) feel it necessary to go watch a comedy to bring them out of the depths of depressions!!! That's a long way around to simply tell you that I think you're on to something here. Keep at it. Wishing you further writing inspiration - from a rather cold South Africa. Ukhul' uzukhokhobe. (Zulu saying)

Author's reply

Aww come on! Admit it! Legolas angst and torture stories are the best kind to read and you know it! (At least they're my favorite kind anyway... :P) I can't make any garantees about Legolas' recovery right now, but I promise you're not going to have to go watch a comedy to cheer yourself up! I really don't think I'm *that* cruel to him...... Well... then again...

Lossenchristal · 26 April 2004 · Chapter 4: Lifting of Darkness

WOW!!!! Awesome! You should have seen me smile when Legolas grabbed Gimli's arm! I love Happy endings to bad situations,(though I know this isn't an ending)Now SOME authors(I name no names;)insist in keeping poor Legolas in torment, or BLINDNESS;) for chapters and chapters!:D Anyway I am glad Legolas is awake, and I am looking forward to the next chapters, and him discovering his new "powers".:) Thanks for the two chapter update! Please continue soon! Namarië, ~Lossenchristal

Author's reply

Oh!!! You better hold onto your seat because next chapter all hell's going to break loose! *bwa ha ha!* Legolas ain't anywhere out of the woods yet! He might now be awake, but don't forget he's laying there writhing under Elrohir, Elladan, and Gimli being attacked by some kind of mental barage. Keep a look out for an update tomorrow. I still have eight chapters to post before we get up to the point I've written to so far. Thanks for reading! -LAXgirl

TieAillin Alcarion · 26 April 2004 · Chapter 4: Lifting of Darkness

Oooo, I'm loving this! This is not taking the predictable course. I love your description of the autumn colors, too. My own mother was in a coma for almost a year. She says that during it she was aware of everything, even when her doctors stood at the end of her bed and said she had no chance of recovery, so they weren't going to treat some of her more minor injuries (which is why she has a fused neck--they didn't treat the whiplash). It might not be this way for everyone. But when Gimli is walking down the hallway thinking about Legolas, you might want to drop the word "dreamless", because Gimli wouldn't really know what, if anything, was going on in his head. Just a POV suggestion. :-) Smiles, T

Author's reply

OMG wow... Are you serious? Was your mother really in a coma? I- I'm not quite sure how to respond to that! When I first read your review I couldn't help but be paranoid and wonder if since you have first hand experience with comas if I might have somehow offended you with something I wrote... I hope that's not the case! lol I'm probably just being paranoid! I'm weird that way... :P Anyway, wow! Give her my most humble and best regards! I can't really even begin to imagine what it would be like to be in a coma, but be conscious enough to know what's going on around me and not be able to do anything about it! That must have been horrible for you and your family! Like I said, I really don't know how to respond to something like that! If you have any suggestions on how I can somehow improve my fic (especially chapter three "Chronicle of Years" where everyone is waiting for Legolas to wake up) I'd be more than willing to listen! If you have first hand experience you'd be willing to share, I'm here! Again thanks for the review, and thank you for that inside info. I think you're right about Gimli's perspective. I'm going to at some point have to go back and fix that. I mean, how would he know what was going on in Legolas' head? Thanks again for the review! -LAXgirl

Alina · 26 April 2004 · Chapter 4: Lifting of Darkness

Wow, you do update quickly! Good for us readers ;-) I´m so glad that he finally woke up, the responses of the other characters were almost painful to read. I love the way you had Gimli react to Legolas waking - it could have been all teary and happy, but shock is so much more realistic! Shock on both sides, just like you wrote it - great job! And then Aragorn assuming that the only message he would receive from his friend would be about his death - that almost drove tears to my eyes... I am very curious how you will continue and I sure will be along for the ride! Alina

Author's reply

Ha ha! Glad to see I can brighten someone's day! Well, I have about eight more chapters to post before we get up to the point I've got written so far, so keep an eye out for them! Thanks for liking the scene. I think shock would have been the most prevalent emotion felt by everyone right then, especially after five years, so I'm glad you liked that. Yes, the Aragorn scene kind of tore my little heart too when I was writing it. For some reason, he kinda struck me as giving up hope the fastest on Legolas after finally accepting Legolas' coma and would probably would have immediately thought the worst. Thanks again for reading! -LAXgirl
