This was so funny! I particularly liked where Pippin asked Merry why shouldn't *he* be green "this time". This time?

Author's reply

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. But you know how Merry is, his idea, his plan, and Pip is the one that gets to be green. Somewhere in his mind I think Pippin knew this was not the best of ideas but he still trusted Merry to get it right. LOL

Lindelea · 1 August 2004 · Chapter 10: A Soldier's Tale

I didn't have time to read the whole, and fully intend to come back later! But what I did have time to read was so believable, and made me chuckle, and reminded me of my growing-up days, when my brothers played so. It is a little hard on the eyes. Is, perhaps, the entire chapter appearing in "bold"?

Author's reply

I spent two hours trying to format this one! LOL It's a wonder that it is appearing at all. Yes, it is all in bold at the moment and I do plan to try and fix that after I recover from last night's efforts. For some reason, Every time I put this chapter in, the formatting took out two of the first three papagraphs and moved them to the end of the story. Then it was too broad for the frame and you had to move with every line to read it, then....well, you get the idea. LOL Glad you enjoyed what you were able to read and I am sorry about the eye-strain. As originally post, the soldier's bit was in italics and the rest of the story was just normal print. It worked on my LJ, but not here. Go figure.

PIppinfan1988 · 1 August 2004 · Chapter 7: Going Out

Awww....very sweet! Little Pergun wore out Per, so she took her only way out--a nap! He next tried Mer, but he was having none of that, saving all his energy to build that rickety, but lovely cart a few years down the road! I'll catch up with the rest later--love these little stories, G.W.! PF

Author's reply

Glad you could stop by and read a few. I enjoy your reviews and it helps to hear what you think of these things. LOL Have a wonderful day and write something for me to read after you mow that lawn.

PIppinfan1988 · 1 August 2004 · Chapter 6: The Cart

That was cool! Merry actually did something that didn't come back to bite him in the backside! Loved how you wrote the fire in Pippin's eyes and standing up to the hecklers. Very nice, indeed! Pippinfan

Author's reply

Yes, Merry got that cart ready and running at full speed. I thought that Pippin would be quick to defend Merry of any charge against all comers. Glad that you see it that way too.

PIppinfan1988 · 1 August 2004 · Chapter 5: Here kitty, Kitty

LOL...why did I think that the kitty was a skunk?? Sick humor perhaps. :-) Your wee little Pergun is sooo cute--and loved your smug Frodo and young Merry! I'll treat myself to a couple more before I have to mow the dreadful lawn. Onto the next one... Pippinfan

Author's reply

Yes, sick humor drives these stories and makes them what they are! Finally, someone has noticed the truth of things. Thanks for reading! Don't work too hard.

Bodkin · 1 August 2004 · Chapter 10: A Soldier's Tale

I just love this. The soldier is such a lovely character - I hope he will appear in further stories. It's great the way he and Pippin can communicate. So amusing. I'm sure the lieutenant enjoyed his afternoon sailing before he got back to the serious business of fighting the Battle of the Five Armies. It was so funny the way he looked on the green soldiers as being traitors because they enjoyed their sail. And the nicknames - the General and the Old Campaigner, the Adviser and the Intruder - and he had the character traits off perfectly. Good story.

Author's reply

So glad that you enjoyed this one. It's a bit different for me as I've never written the thoughts of a wooden soldier before. LOL Since he was Merry's favorite soldier I figured he'd be very serious about the battles and Merry's instructions. The nicknames for Merry and Frodo came easy, but finding one for Frodo took a while. As for Pippin, he started out as the thief but it just didn't work well so I changed it. Glad that worked out. Thank you for reading this one.

GamgeeFest · 29 July 2004 · Chapter 9: A Matter of trust

Sam's quote was so close to Kermy's song too, lol! This one was both sweet and funny. I love that Pippin would trust Merry no matter what, and that Merry learned he needs to be a bit more careful with his suggestions. And of course Sam knows everything - he's Sam! Keep up the good work.

Author's reply

I love the trust between Pip and Merry and as to Kermit, well, who doesn't love Kermit the Frog? I have always loved that song. Sam keeps everything running smoothly. I hope they appreciate him because he knows what to do in most emergencies.

GamgeeFest · 29 July 2004 · Chapter 8: Take Your Best Shot

Well, that joke backfired on them didn't it? hehe very funny. Poor Pippin though, to get hit so many times. Frodo picked the perfect punishment for his cousins so he could enjoy his perfect day.

Author's reply

Frodo just wanted to read in peace and I know how he feels. LOL Nothing is worse than having a good book interupted. Thanks so much for reading this.

GamgeeFest · 28 July 2004 · Chapter 7: Going Out

Toddlers can be incredibly one-track-minded. Especially when you tell them no! Poor Esmeralda has her hands full.

Author's reply

Even then, Pip wanted to follow his Merry. Thanks for the lovely reviews!

GamgeeFest · 28 July 2004 · Chapter 6: The Cart

LOL, I love this one! Proud and compentent Merry. Defensive, adventerous Pippin. And no brakes! At least the other lads can't say it won't make it downhill in one piece anymore. This was perfect, very funny!

Author's reply

Thank you! I think of this as soap-box derby hobbit style. LOL

GamgeeFest · 27 July 2004 · Chapter 4: Bucket!

"I love that shirt!" LOL, somehow that's not something I ever imagined hearing Merry say. Pippin didn't learn very much from that experience - other than Vinca and Merry are useless.

Author's reply

Yes, well, I thought Merry might have a favorite shirt, but then maybe it was just a bit of a stretch. LOL Thanks for reading.

Bodkin · 27 July 2004 · Chapter 9: A Matter of trust

I just love Sam. The whole mission/quest/thing would have fallen apart without him. Grounded, I think you could say, as well as practical. Good grasp of the really important. I enjoyed the way that Pippin asked Merry to tell him when not to trust him. That Pippin-Merry-Frodo bond is such an important part of who they are.

Author's reply

Thank you for the lovely review and I am glad that you are enjoying this little stories. I figure at that point in time Pippin didn't care what else happened just as long as he made Merry happy. A bit of hero worship, I figure. As for Sam, I don't think any of them could get along with out Sam. He's the one with the rope and the common sense, of course!

GamgeeFest · 26 July 2004 · Chapter 2: A Nasty Turn of Events

LOL, caught in their own trap! That was priceless, as I'm sure Garrett will agree when he comes out in the morning. After he finishes rolling on the floor with laughter that is.

Author's reply

I almost continued this one, but decided to stop it right there and let everyone make up the ending in their heads. LOL Maybe later on I will write more for it and we will all get to see Garrett's reaction.

GamgeeFest · 26 July 2004 · Chapter 1: First Impressions

My nephew once kept the whole house awake one night crying when he was a baby. I remember being quite mad at him in the morning. A cute introduction of Pippin to Merry. My favorite line: "I don't plan to like you." I can just see young Merry saying something like this. Indicates he's already starting to like 'it' just a little bit. Will we get to find out how Pippin comes by his nickname then? I guess I'll read on and find out. :)

Author's reply

Thanks for reading. I am so glad that you enjoyed this one. I thought it might take Merry a while to warm up to the new baby even though it is Pippin. LOL

Hai Took · 26 July 2004 · Chapter 9: A Matter of trust

That was a very fun story! I must say the firs thing I thought of when I read enough to realize that it looked like Pip would be green for a while was Kermit the frog! I like the way you described Pippin's blind trust in Merry and Frodo pondering their relationship, very sweet! Thank you for the fun story!

Author's reply

Thank you for reading this one. So glad that it made you smile and think of Kermit. I was thinking of him too. LOL I'm glad the trust in Pip's and Merry's relationship came through too.

Pearl Took · 26 July 2004 · Chapter 9: A Matter of trust

Sam to the rescue!!!! And a green Pippin, that is just too good. I will think of this now whenever I look at the little Kermit that I have by my computer. Once again, great fun!!!

Author's reply

I put in my own little Kermit trib. when Sam says that it can't be easy being green and Pippin agrees with him. I kept hearing that song while I was writing this one. LOL I guess I'm not too old for Kermit yet. Glad you and your little Kermit enjoyed it!

Dreamflower · 26 July 2004 · Chapter 9: A Matter of trust

So, I'm chuckling my way through this lovely little piece, with its absolutely spot-on characterizations of the three cousins,(loved your opinion of Frodo as a cook--matches my ideas perfectly, LOL!) and you come up with this little gem: He trusts you, cousin." Frodo went off to his own bed and left Merry standing there. "Well I didn’t tell him that he should," Merry muttered to the empty parlor. "No one else does." Poor Pip! and of course trust Sam to have a solution! I loved it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Author's reply

I'm glad you and I agree on Frodo's cooking skills. I thought it might be amusing if he were a bit sensitive about it. As to Frodo's observation on Pip trusting Merry, I figured that at these ages, Merry might not realize just how much influence he was having over Pippin. Leave it to Frodo to try and clue him in on this. (Also works well with my Trust a Brandybuck and a Took title.) Sam is the practical one. I could just see the three of them looking at him and being amazed that they let such a simple idea elude them. Hence Frodo's comment about Sam coming from a practical family. LOL Thanks so much for reading and reviewing. I look forward to more of your stories.

PIppinfan1988 · 25 July 2004 · Chapter 4: Bucket!

Goodness,GW, I was ROTFL!! I do love your Merry; thinks he's all that and a bag of chips, too! Pippin is always adorable...can I take him home? I'll have two Pippins then--yours and mine! ;-) I always enjoy your stories, Grey Wonderer...thanks for brightening my day. :-) Pippinfan

Author's reply

Hey, always pleased when I've brightened a day! But two Pippin's? Now that might be quite a handful. Do you have that much energy and spare time or an extra Merry to deal with all the interesting situations that a Pippin can get into? LOL I always enjoy your stories too and I hope things are now moving smoothly in your RL. They must be if you've decided to take in an extra Pippin!

PIppinfan1988 · 25 July 2004 · Chapter 3: Merry's Doorway

Too cute, Grey Wonderer!! Hehehe... "He is instantly burrowing down under my blankets and putting his cold toes on my leg." - GW I loved that!! LOL.. I savored every word! I have always loved Merry's endearment; "Pipsqueak". Very lovely! Pippinfan

Author's reply

So glad that you liked it. Merry was right when he suspected that once Pip got in the door he would be there for good and all. Trouble was Merry didn't realize at that point that he would want Pippin there. LOL

Pearl Took · 25 July 2004 · Chapter 8: Take Your Best Shot

Great fun! I love that Pip was in the tree. Merry should have let him get Sam in the arse! hehehe.

Author's reply

I almost let him get Sam in the arse, but decided to let Sam out-smart them instead. Sadly, then I turned on Sam and let him be drawn into the plot! LOl I never knew where I'm going when I start! Thanks for reviewing!

Hai Took · 24 July 2004 · Chapter 8: Take Your Best Shot

lol! That was great! I laughed through the whole thing! My first thought was that someone's aim was off and they would end up braking a window, but I don't know if pebble from a sling shot would do that. Poor, Sam being the one to actually hit Frodo! It was lots of fun, thank you!

Author's reply

I almost did have them break something until the idea of somone, Frodo, being hit came to me and then I decided that might be an interesting way to go. I started to make Sam a bad shot, but changed my mind and just had Frodo get in the way. Glad you enjoyed it and thank s for readig these!

Dreamflower · 23 July 2004 · Chapter 8: Take Your Best Shot

You've done it again, LOL! I really love Sam playing detective, and thet Merry and Pip are able to tempt him to do just what he caught them at! Hilarious!

Author's reply

I started to let his catching them be the end of it, but then I decided that Sam deserved a chance to shoot at something. He was going to hit something breakable but then, well, Frodo got in the way. LOL

Lindelea · 23 July 2004 · Chapter 8: Take Your Best Shot

"Frodo is *always* reading!" Somehow I don't find that hard to believe. “Brilliant,” Merry growled. “Now, will you please get your foot off of me?” You have a deft sense of timing, as usual. Thanks for an enjoyable read!

Author's reply

So glad that you liked it. I just seem to be writing only these short fictions at the moment. Before, I couldn't seem to end one even when it needed ending, and now I'm doing this. LOL I never know what's coming.

Pearl Took · 21 July 2004 · Chapter 7: Going Out

Sorry I'm late in getting to this, vacation and then computer glitches. I am having sooooo much fun reading these!! They brighten my day. Thank you for sharing them with us all.

Author's reply

So glad that you are having a good time with these. Hope the vacation was a good one. I know how those computer glitches can be and I hope yours is not giving youtoo much trouble. Wouldn't want anything to happen to future chapters of "While We Dwelt in Fear" ! Thanks for reading!

Bodkin · 20 July 2004 · Chapter 6: The Cart

I love Pippin's joyous certainty that running into the fort again would work fine. And Merry's decision that he needs to think a bit more about braking - it just seems so typical of both of them.

Author's reply

Merry has to be the practical one because Pipin just figures if they get away with it once, it should work again. Thanks for all of your lovely reviews.
