shirebound · 14 August 2007 · Chapter 58: Facing The Storm

“When you were very little you would come flying into my room and throw yourself into my bed and cover your ears with your hands. You’d say, ‘Make it stop, Merry. Make the storm be gone.’ And I’d feel brave and important.” Awwww! What a lovely story. Our lads are grown, but they're still our Merry and Pip... able to do for one another what no one else ever could, or ever will.

Author's reply

Thank you. I do like Merry as the protector but I thought this made Pippin important too because Merry drew strength from Pippin needing him. I do believe that sometimes if others think you're brave it makes you act the part! I'm glad you liked it. I do think Merry and Pip were always a team just as Frodo and Sam were always there for one another.

Golden · 4 June 2007 · Chapter 40: Merry Says

Oh, is that sweet! :) Did that plot bunny Dreamflower asked for, ever got written? *looks around*

Author's reply

Thank you for reading this one and I'm glad you liked it. Sadly, this is another of the plot bunnies that I have meant to write but not had time for. Dreamflower always has such entertaining ideas and I never have enough time!

Golden · 4 June 2007 · Chapter 53: The Big Green Bottle

*L* Hilarious! Was there ever a continuation of this story or the plot bunny of Dreamflower written?

Author's reply

Glad you liked it. You know, I had forgotten all about that plot bunny of Dreamflower's. Sad to say I never wrote that but I may get around to it yet. You never know. Thank you for reading and reviewing!

Bodkin · 30 March 2007 · Chapter 13: Bug's Life

What a cute little Pippin! He would make a very noisy little green bug - among the tomatoes, too. And I think I'm with Merry that an afternoon of looking after him could seem very long - and remarkably tiring! And isn't it just the truth that little kids can be mortally offended without you even realising you've upset them!

Author's reply

Merry did have his hands full. Probably drove him completely buggy! (Couldn't resist that pun, sorry.) Thanks for reading!

Andrea · 26 March 2007 · Chapter 57: Courting Disaster

Pippin scowled at Merry. “I am not a pest.” He looked toward Estella and Berilac again. “Estella doesn’t like me.” “She’ll get used to you,” Merry said. “I did.” “I don’t want her to get used to me,” Pippin said still scowling. “I don’t like her.” “I like her so maybe you should try to get used to her,” Merry smiled. ROTFL!!! Great dialogue, G.W.! I enjoyed this story a great deal! And rest assured that if I happen to have a fight, I will know where to place my thumbs ;-)

Author's reply

Hey, glad you enjoyed the dialogue. I love to write dialogue so it's nice to hear when it goes over well. And if I educated you on the proper way to make a fist then I feel like my job here is done. LOL Thank you so much for reading!

Golden · 26 March 2007 · Chapter 57: Courting Disaster

Perfect Pippin characterisation! Perfect Merry characterisation! Perfect dialoge! Perfect little Story! Love it! Demand more! ... please? *g*

Author's reply

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you and thank you. I am very glad you enjoyed it. I am fairly certain that there will be more of these. As you can see "Trust and Brandybuck and a Took!" has been going on and on for some time now. Thank you for the review and for reading!

Lindelea · 26 March 2007 · Chapter 57: Courting Disaster

*snork* And here I am, without time to cut and paste and quote all my fav. bits. To start with: raised your incorrectly fisted hands and stood your ground. But there was so much more! Nicely done, and sparkling dialogue as usual.

Author's reply

Thank you! I know how little time you have to read and so it is always lovely to hear from you on one of these. I'm glad you enjoyed the dialogue. Thank you for reviewing!

harrowcat · 26 March 2007 · Chapter 57: Courting Disaster

And so we all learn a little bit about fighting and a lot more about the relationship between these two. Great Stuff GW. * Wanders off, walking extra tall, pondering how to hide the extra inches too* *G*

Author's reply

Thank you! I hope I've saved your thumbs. hehehe

Pearl Took · 25 March 2007 · Chapter 57: Courting Disaster

Wonderful!!! "...Finally, he lost focus and started staring over my head at, at-“ Pippin broke off and his eyes took on an injured look as the realization of exactly what Sancho had been looking at struck him. He looked up at Merry for a minute and then his eyes dropped. “I guess you were what he was looking at weren’t you?” Pippin said softly. “I was,” Merry said quietly. “You scared him off,” Pippin said disappointedly. “I didn’t do anything except injure my thumb did I?” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I could just see and feel the poor lad deflate. I do love your stories!!!!!

Author's reply

When I first started to write this I actually had Merry allowing Pippin to believe that he had run Sancho off but then I re-thought that because sooner or later I decided that Sancho would catch Pippin alone. I figured that Merry would realize this too so I let Merry give him the truth. I'm glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the lovely review! I do look forward to your reviews.

Pearl Took · 25 March 2007 · Chapter 56: The Moment of Truth

I read this at the Challenge site and loved it. I read it here because I didn't remember the title and saw I hadn't left a response - I'm so glad I re-read it. I'm all teary. A wonderful, wonderful story!!!!!

Author's reply

Awww, thank you. So glad you enjoyed it again. Thank you!

shirebound · 25 March 2007 · Chapter 57: Courting Disaster

“So you’ve noticed that I’m taller!” Pippin said smiling in spite of himself. “I may have noticed,” Merry said smiling back. I love how Pippin will jump on the smallest 'positive', and Merry will relent and agree. Awwww.

Author's reply

That's Pippin for you. He always finds something positive to hold on to. I think everyone around him is too surprised to correct him. Even Merry. LOL Thanks for reviewing!

PIppinfan1988 · 25 March 2007 · Chapter 57: Courting Disaster

How the heck did I miss this excellent tale??! This was funny, sweet, and full of great cousinly banter. I do dearly love how protective your Merry is toward Pippin...and lusts, lol, after Estella! LOL, I sort of see Pippin and Sancho the same as you...you'll see. :-) PF

Author's reply

LOL Silly Hobbit Lass! You didn't miss it. This was only posted for the first time today. I wrote this and then never posted it. I forgot about it and then found it this evening and posted it. You are right on time. I look forward to reading your take on Sancho and Pippin. We always seem to have ideas that run in the same sort of patterns. I worry about one of us but I don't know which one. LOL

AspenJules · 25 March 2007 · Chapter 57: Courting Disaster

GW... I loved this. I especially loved these lines: “What would you call standing up to someone that is twice your size?” Merry asked. “Stupid?” All of the rest of the dialogue between Merry and Pippin was great too, and the image of little Pippin dancing around in front of Sancho, and ... oh, just all of it! Thanks for the laughs!

Author's reply

Thank you for reviewing and for liking it. I enjoy writing dialogue so I am always pleased when someone likes it. That bit that you quoted is one of my favorite parts. hehehe

SlightlyTookish · 25 March 2007 · Chapter 57: Courting Disaster

Eeeee, this is delightful! I love Merry and Pippin's conversation, I could quote a whole bunch of lines but then I would be quoting the whole thing. :D

Author's reply

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. I wrote this, forgot I'd written it, and then came across it today and decided to post it. I was going to write a bit today but when I found this I just posted it and then sat around and read other people's fictions. Thank you for the lovely review!

Larner · 25 March 2007 · Chapter 57: Courting Disaster

Pippin reminds me of my poms--they are convinced they are the biggest dogs on the block, and won't back down no matter what, even when they've been run right over. But he's NOT stupid, not our Pip! And he doesn't like to think Merry's growing away from him....

Author's reply

Little dogs are very brave for some reason. I love that about them. They would fight anything for their territory or their people. Pippin isn't stupid but he does act without thinking and I do believe that his taking on the 'bigger dogs' is one example of the way he jumps in without giving a thought to what might happen. LOL I like to think that it took a while for Pippin and Estella to like one another. After all, both of them were trying for Merry's full attention and I suspect that neither wanted to share. : ) Thanks for reviewing!

Pearl Took · 21 December 2006 · Chapter 18: Snow and Ice

I had not recognized the title, but I remembered the story. A wonderful sweet, caring story. Thank you once again, GW!!!

Author's reply

Thank you! Your reviews are so wonderful and this little story hadn't received one in a while. It's always fun when someone comments on an older story, don't you think? Happy Holidays, dear friend!

GamgeeFest · 18 December 2006 · Chapter 56: The Moment of Truth

Awww! Of course Pippin would forgive Merry instantly. He can never stay angry with Merry, which is in a way unfortunate. It allows Merry to forget too easily about being careful with Pippin's feelings. After this though I think Merry will be a little more conscientious, for awhile at least. The baby dragon was very cute. Loved Frodo's gentle explanations to Merry about the trials and joys of having a tag along. ;D

Author's reply

Yes, Merry does get away with quite a lot but on the other hand, he does have a lot to deal with at times. LOL Glad you enjoyed Merry's fierce Dragon! Frodo had a lot to sort out this time, didn't he? Thanks for reading!

Bodkin · 15 December 2006 · Chapter 56: The Moment of Truth

Oh Merry! Just at the age when you're the centre of the universe and everything revolves around you. I loved Frodo gently pointing out that his little cousin was just as much a hanger-on to Frodo and his friends as ever Pippin was to him. Good cunning plan to get rid of the little pest though - and absolutely typical to find that, having managed to scare Pippin off, Merry didn't actually want to be without his little admirer. He used his brain when it came to seeking reconciliation, though - Merry's not short of brains. Get Pippin at a weak moment, when he's scared and in the dark, and he'll be much more welcoming of his big heroic cousin. Excellent story - you are so good at these tales of Merry and Pippin, with occasional great inputs from Frodo and Freddy and the rest.

Author's reply

Frodo had to straighten out quite a bit in this one but fortunately he was up to the task. Merry is very clever all around in this one. In fact, he is almost too clever and without Frodo around, Merry might have spoiled his friendship with Pippin. Thank you for the lovely review and all of your kind words. Have a wonderful holiday!

Larner · 11 December 2006 · Chapter 56: The Moment of Truth

It may have taken him five years, but now Pippin's right in there playing with the other children. And even then Frodo was worthy of his name. Our beloved Frodo, and his beloved brother-cousins.

Author's reply

I like to think that Frodo was always willing to offer help and advice to his younger cousins. I do see him as looking out for both of them along the way. Glad you agree and thank you for the review!

harrowcat · 11 December 2006 · Chapter 56: The Moment of Truth

Oh dear GW, you have made me late for work! This is great! So many lines just got to me! *sniff!* “You weren’t even invited to come along. I told you not to follow me.” “I didn’t think you meant that really,” Pippin said, eyes watering as he fought not to cry in front of his beloved older cousin. “I thought you were just teasing like you always do.” “I meant it,” Merry said. “And I meant all of those other times that you thought I was teasing. I always mean it and you never listen!” What a fore-shadowing of the Quest!

Author's reply

Late for work! uh-oh! Sorry about that. Thank you for the review and I am very glad that you enjoyed this one. It is a bit more emotional than most of my stories. It stat=rted out to be completely different but this was the end result. I never know where these things are actually going. LOL

PIppinfan1988 · 10 December 2006 · Chapter 56: The Moment of Truth

Oh, my! The summary said something about exploring more about the Ent-draught, and I thought--oooh! another Ent-draught story! :-D Instead, I saw the most excellent tale that you entered in Marigold's Challenge last weekend! :-D I get misty just thinking about it. I'm sorry I didn't tell you more about how much I loved this story about the friendship between Merry and Pippin--and Frodo, to some extent. So I'll tell you now! :-) Yeah, when I read the part about the lizard, I thought Merry was being...well, a brat, even though he was a mere child himself. :-P I mean, he was messing with my precious little Pippin! Okay, Merry is my precious, too--I suppose I just got sucked deep into the story! But when Merry started to feel remorseful--and even cried about it, I got teary-eyed myself. This was such a sweet, sweet, endearing story of how two beloved cousins meant to compliment each others lives until the end of their days come together and bond at the heart. Thank you for writing this most wonderful tale. :-) Pippinfan

Author's reply

This one started out to be one of the prnak stories and then went somewhere different and became rather emotional from both cousins. Sometimes what I plan to write gets all mixed up in what I wind up writing. LOL Thank you for the second review and I am glad that you enjoyed it.

Pearl Took · 14 November 2006 · Chapter 37: Strike While the Iron is Hot

I have been most remiss and beg your forgiveness. I keep missing your stories. I thought I had added you to my favorites list and notification list, but perhaps I didn't *major blushing* I shall rectify that immediately! Wonderful!!! Marvelous!!! Stupendous!!! Though, from watching a M*A*S*H episode, I had the feeling that they were actually getting Freddy. What I didn't anticipate was the goats ending up in Saradoc's study!! TOO GOOD!!

Author's reply

Ah, yes M*A*S*H! Loved that show. Hawkeye was so very Groucho. How could I resist? Please don't beg. I think of you as one of my most faithful readers. I think we all miss posted stories now and then. I know I do. I am just thrilled that you stop by and read when you have the time. Just, please keep writing you stories! That's all I need, dear friend. Glad you enjoyed this one. Dreamflower requested this 'story where Pippin and Merry get even with Freddy over past pranks' and that's how this came about.

Pearl Took · 14 November 2006 · Chapter 29: Inside Out

However do you keep turning out these wonderful stories? I loved the twist at the end - Perfect!

Author's reply

Thank you! I always like a bit of a surprise when I'm reading and I do try to toss one or two in now and then. Glad you enjoyed it!

Pearl Took · 14 November 2006 · Chapter 43: Of Squirrels and Stolen Pies

I missed this one, GW. Good thing it was nominated for a MEFA! This is such fun!! I love Pippin wanting to get back to telling about the squirrels, and Merry knowing just when to put in an appearance! Wonderful!!

Author's reply

Thank you! I came home to find that someone (you) had been leaving reviews for some of my stories and it brightened my night! It is much appreciated. The squirrels and I are thrilled! Seriously, this was a bit like a cartoon image in my head when I first wrote it. All I had was this idea about someone rushing by and handing Pippin a pie!

Anonymous · 11 November 2006 · Chapter 53: The Big Green Bottle

Pip-logic: the older the brew, the better. The dustier the bottle, the older. So find the dustiest bottle in the cellar and you'll find the best drink. With that kind of thinking, trouble could not be far. That's priceless! :) Merry needs to be more careful with his promises. If Pippin wants something, he will not only find but create loopholes. Endless story ideas can explode from one thoughtless Merry-promise, no? :) Drunken Pippish is much harder to understand than normal Pippish, but I got most of it. Heehee. If only they had known it was a Frodo creation. They would have burned the big green bottle of "Baggins Brew." Where do come up with these plot ideas? I love hobbits! Keep the stories coming.

Author's reply

Thank you so much for the lovely review. Seems Merry didn't think things through clearly in this case, did he? LOL As to where the ideas come from, no clue and just when I think that they've all been written, another one turns up. Thank you for reading and I have a feeling that there will be more.
