A most delightful read so far. I got a bit jumbled up trying to keep track of the wagers... but I certainly wasn't the only one it seems! As far a preparing for the Hobbit basic training... has any of the Big Folk thought to consult the hobbits, or at least Bilbo, on what they already /do/ know. The skill of Tookish archers for example is well known and even if Pip is not trained that way himself surely Frodo and Bilbo would have something to say on the construction of the bows... how strong the draw should be for example.

I've read this before, but have been slowly re-reading some of your older stories. I wanted to tell you that I love how you write the dialogue between the hobbits and Aragorn. Gently teasing, full of affection, yet stern when needed - I love your Aragorn! And I always love, love your Frodo, even when he is being completely stubborn. Hopefully, I will be able to read all your fics again - while we wait for more new ones. Hint, hint!

Queen Galadriel · 11 October 2005 · Chapter 62: The Quest Begins

Budgielover, I enjoyed this tale immensely! I love the blending of angst, humour, adventure, and unflinching sweetness. The familial love that our beloved hobbits share is beautifully portrayed, as are the characters themselves, and the ending is very effective. I'll certainly be reading the sequel! Very well done, and this story well deserves its honours! Namarie, and God bless, Galadriel

Hullo, your Majesty! Thank you so much for your kind words - all of them. I am especially proud of my Rivendell series - it is one of the few times that hobbits can unabashedly act like hobbits. 'Our' version of hobbits, anyway. I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for telling me so.

Hi Budgielover! Great ending to a very long but very exciting story!! I will be looking forward to the new story you mentioned at the end, but please finish Out of All Knowledge first!!! I really want to know what happens! Thanks for sharing all your stories with us!

JULES6 · 7 December 2003 · Chapter 4: Apples and Promises

Nice little relapse there with Frodo. Nice angst for him. Merry and Pippin are getting in a little over their heads I would think. Looking forward to the next part. JULES

JULES6 · 7 December 2003 · Chapter 3: “This is getting out o’ hand…” - Samwise

I am a bit like Aragorn I am afraid - looking at Merry and Pippin teaming up together for anything and I think to myself UH-OH !!!!!! doubly. JULES

JULES6 · 7 December 2003 · Chapter 2: Sorrows, Comfort and More Deals

Scheming hobbits - Merry and Pippin. Poor Sam already so worried about Frodo being so sick from his injury and not recovering as well as everyone would like. Now he has got himself caught up in the mischief created by the two cousins and he has to watch out for them too. No rest for poor Sam. JULES

JULES6 · 7 December 2003 · Chapter 1: Battle Tactics and Deals Struck

I just love the determined little hobbit who sticks to his guns and not afraid to take on the future King of Gondor. Frodo's stubbornness is just great - it is fun to see just how annoyed he can get with all of the fussing. Everyone credits him with being weak, tired and ill, which he might be - but then comes the frustration and anger at the babying. I want to fuss over him too but I do so love that stubborn streak in Frodo. JULES

Grey Wonderer · 6 December 2003 · Chapter 62: The Quest Begins

I have enjoyed every minute of this story! You do an amazing job with the hobbits and Elrond was regal throughout with a very nice touch of humor and warmth. Thank you for a great story.

“Yes, Merry.” Pippin exhaled softly, relaxing. Now that the time had come to depart, he felt young and frightened and nervous, and not at all eager to leave. I’m glad we came here, he thought, his gaze taking in the leaves falling from the winter-touched trees and the elegant, time-honored architecture. I will remember our time here as long as I live. And I have Cousin Bilbo’s drawing to remind me, tucked safely in the pages of Frodo’s book. Waiting for us to get back. You know how dear Pippin is to me, this made me get teary. Thank you for this fun, exciting and teary tale!! And I eagerly await your next one. Pearl Took

And another of my favourite stories comes to an end. And, like its predecessors, I loved this last chapter. The Yule-festivities fit seamlessly into the book-canon, giving a bit of background to Elrond providing warm clothes and other necessities for the journey for the Hobbits (and those other gifts that were not mentioned in canon but left behind in Bilbo's keeping, except for Sam's cooking gear -- no wonder he was so reluctant to leave it behind in Mordor). And Elrond's reaction to the dragon tooth was just hilarious. Good that he did not know too much about the circumstances under which it was retrieved. Cudos for this wonderful story, fliewatuet (looking forward to something completely different ...)

Sniff! I can't believe one of my favorite stories has come to an end. Will Elrond ever recover? Ai, your faithful reader will journey onward with you! Thanks for a great story! Humble Scribe to his Majesty Thranduil

I loved that chapter! You did such a splendid job, as usual ;) I liked how you wrote about Pippin having everyone wrapped around his finger! That is how I always kind of picture him, the darling of everyone who meets him yet it doesn't ever really go to his head. I liked thinking about Arwen singing to him, wonderful! I hope they are all able to enjoy their last couple of days! I guess there isn't much left to this story, but you sure have written a lot and it is all worth the read! Are you planning anymore stories? I have enjoyed this little stay in Rivendell, thank you so much! Looking forward to finding out what happens next!

Pearl Took · 26 November 2003 · Chapter 61: A Surprise

budgielover, This is magical! I love my dear Pip wrapping everyone around his little finger. I love the vision in the Fairy stone. And Yule. A Yule celebration for the little ones that Elrond and his household have come to love so dearly; even the mischievious ones. This is the perfect way to end my day, which is what I'm doing. And so to bed!! Thank you!! Pearl Took

JULES6 · 25 November 2003 · Chapter 61: A Surprise

You know that you brighten everyone's day when we see one of Budgie's stories with a new chapter - well you certainly make mine more enjoyable anyway - I love the way you portray the hobbits and the relationships between the big folk and intertwine them all so wonderfully. Hope to see more soon. JULES

Grey Wonderer · 25 November 2003 · Chapter 61: A Surprise

That Pippin is so clever! Enjoy it while it lasts! LOL I am so glad that Pippin's sight has been restored. I want my very own little stone so that I can have a look at a few things here and there. Very useful indeed. A very interesting chapter.

FantasyFan · 25 November 2003 · Chapter 61: A Surprise

I wonder what Pippin would see through the fairy-stone if he looked at Gandalf? or Boromir? He could even answer Galadriel in kind, I imagine. It's an interesting concept, but it's not much more than an idle amusement for him. I wonder if it could be made to be useful somehow... The Yule celebration is nice - one last reminder of home before they have to set out. But either it is a bit premature or their departure is somewhat delayed, as I was under the impression they stasrted walking on December 26 and were 60 miles south of Rivendell as the crow flies by 1 Yule (feel free to tell me it's a story and you can write it anyway you want). I think it was kind of Elrond to want to give them a send-off, as well as to give them as much peaceful time together before they even had to think about what was to come. Not surprised at all that Merry catches on before the rest. I'm hoping a few honored guests will be joining the Yule party before it's over - I am waiting to see if Arwen will be caught under the mistletoe, and by whom.

Arwen Baggins · 25 November 2003 · Chapter 61: A Surprise

Interesting to think that Elrond isn't overly enthusiastic about restoring peace and tanquility to his beloved home.

Shireling · 7 November 2003 · Chapter 60: Home

Budgie 'Gandalf shook his grey head. “No. Frodo will worry himself into a state, you see. Sam will worry that Frodo worries. Merry and Pippin will be unhappy because Frodo and Sam are worried.' You have such a lovely 'take' on the Hobbits and the passage above really sums it up. And Frodo wanting to send Pippin and Merry home to protect them and realising that he can't!!!! Well Done Helen

fliewatuet · 6 November 2003 · Chapter 60: Home

I am glad that Pippin has not lost his other senses as well, especially not his sense of smell, nor has he lost his appetite as it seems. And the rest of Imladris' inhabitants seem to adapt quite well to the Hobbits' presence. Now if only Pippin regained his sight and his fellow Hobbits recovered from the riding experience ...

Hai · 6 November 2003 · Chapter 60: Home

I loved how Pippin recognized Gandalf by the smell! How sweet that the first thing he did was thank Gandalf for his firework! Pippin can't be exactly quiet and I'm gald he was able to laugh even with everything that is going on! lol, that Pippin wouldn't cooperate until he had eaten, so hobbity! I liked that so many people were there to see him too. That is wonderful! Looking forward to more! Thank you for all the time you have put into this story, 60 chapters is a lot!

Grey Wonderer · 5 November 2003 · Chapter 60: Home

I always get excited when I see that there is a new chapter of this story. I am enjoying this very much. The hobbits are wonderful and you really capture Lord Elrod well. Write more soon.

Pearl Took · 5 November 2003 · Chapter 60: Home

So many things in this chapter that I loved. Saddle sore hobbits because Frodo knew they would not have wanted to stop. Pippin having trouble being cooperative because what he wanted was food in his empty belly. Frodo thinking of sending Merry and Pippin back to the Shire then realizing his folly. Gandalf's love of Pippin and Frodo and all the hobbits. All the Elves coming by to check on Pippin. A wonderful, wonderful chapter! Pearl Took
