Ah! You have painted such a sweet, memorable moment in each of their lives. Another most brilliant episode in the lives of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, and again, I loved each and every word. :-) There is just something about both of these lovely tales that makes me want MORE, lol. When will Bilbo drop another hint to Frodo to move in -- or, perhaps give us a glimpse into the acceptance? Well done, again! :-)

Author's reply

Awww, thank you! You're too nice to me and I love you for it. I don't know if there will be more but just lately I have been thinking about little Merry and earlier stories so perhaps...

PIppinfan1988 · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 11: Adventures Foretold

Oh...my....gosh!! Where do I start first? I absolutely LOVED the entire scene of Belladonna helping her beloved son prepare for his Coming of Age party! I heard Bell's voice crystal clear, and Bilbo's nervous apprehension unmistakably. I got lost in this wonderful scene while enjoying every word. You nailed it, my friend. Very well done, indeed. :-)

Author's reply

Thank you! That was my very first try at Belladonna. I do think it was Bilbo's turn for a coming of age story so this was it from me anyway. I'v very gald that you liked it and Happy 22nd!

julchen11 · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 12: A Shared Birthday

This made me smile from the very first to the last word. What a brilliant little story, dear. I love your Merry as much as Frodo and Bilbo :-) Thank you for sharing! Love and hugs, Julchen

Author's reply

I haven't written too much of Merry at this age but for some reason, I have had little Merry on my mind lately. I did think that he would want to help out with the gifts. LOL Thank you for reading and Happy 22nd!

julchen11 · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 11: Adventures Foretold

This was sooooo great! I enjoyed it very much, my dear. Thank you very much!

Author's reply

I'm very glad you liked it and thank you for reading. Happy 22nd or what's left of it.

Andrea · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 12: A Shared Birthday

“You got to thank him,” Merry objected frowning. “Even if you don’t like it you still got to thank him. It’s not polite if you don’t.” Merry is great :) Now that was a birthday to remember! A very happy birthday to Frodo and Bilbo!

Author's reply

It's Merry to the defense of Frodo even at this age. LOL Glad you enjoyed this and I wish you a very Happy Baggins Birthday!

Andrea · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 11: Adventures Foretold

If adventures did seek him out then he would walk the other way and ignore them. There were plenty of Tooks in the Shire that would love to go adventuring. Let adventure find them and leave him alone. LOL!!! So much for the theory, ... I love your characterisation of Belladonna. She thinks before she speaks, but her thoughts are still very Tookish ;-)

Author's reply

I decided to set her apart a bit from the other Tooks if only in the way she speaks. I have always suspected that Belladonna would have stood out in any crowd. And poor Bilbo, like so many of us, was completely wrong about how his life would turn out. LOL Thank you for reading!

Dreamflower · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 12: A Shared Birthday

Oh my word! This is wonderful! I love Merry's interjections and his rather lieral take on the "I can't thank you enough" phrase, LOL! What a wonderful birthday mathom!

Author's reply

I suspect that Merry was very out-spoken in his defense of Frodo even then. LOL If he thought for one minute that Bilbo wasn't going to thank Frodo then Merry would step in and speak up. Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for reading!

Dreamflower · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 11: Adventures Foretold

Oh, how I love your wise and intelligent Belladonna! Of course, she knew that Tookishness was there, just under the surface, just waiting for the right time! *grin* I love Bilbo fics! This was perfect!

Author's reply

Glad you enjoyed Belladonna. I don't think I've ever tried to write her before so this was a first. It's fun trying to imagine what she might have been like. And I just had to give Bilbo a tiny coming of age fiction. He's a very special hobbit and this is his special day!

shirebound · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 11: Adventures Foretold

“My entire life has been an adventure, darling Bilbo,” Belladonna Took Baggins laughed. “Every minute of it." What a wise and happy hobbit she must have been!

Author's reply

I think that both of Bilbo's parents had to be special. Glad you agree! Happy 22nd.

shirebound · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 12: A Shared Birthday

This is a lovely birthday, and perfect gifts! Little Merry is a delight. :)

Author's reply

Thank you! I just could see Merry helping with the gifts. Glad you enjoyed it!

Larner · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 12: A Shared Birthday

Oh, but why not sneak off together--it's not like they hadn't done it before! heh!

Author's reply

I know! I had to check Frodo's age in the punchbowl story just to make certain that I wasn't writing a second fiction for the same birthday! LOL

Larner · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 11: Adventures Foretold

Oh, happy birthday, Bilbo and Frodo! What a wonderful series of adventures they've given us!

Author's reply

They have at that! I am very grateful to Tolkien for giving us hobbits.

Larner · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 10: The Perils of Leaving the backdoor Ajar...

Ah, yes--I remember this one, with all the animals coming in for a visit! Heh!

Author's reply

So you have read one or two of these before! Thanks for stopping back by.

Larner · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 9: It's All In The Details

I know I didn't read this one before--oh, it is SO priceless! One in the morning, and they woke him up AND poured a bucket of water on him! And then locked themselves in Frodo's room while he cleans up! Oh, he so deserved it, and particularly after first denying there WAS a bucket and then telling Frodo to get on with it! This is wonderful, GW! Just wonderful!

Author's reply

I liked the idea that Frodo would plan this out and wait until Pippin was old enough so that revenge could be taken without this looking like the 'much older cousin picking on a mere child'. Revenge is a dish best served cold as the Klingons say. And this was some very cold water!

Larner · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 8: The Whole Story...

Now, this one I don't remember! Ah, but it was satisfying! I often take books to the bath with me--a wonderful way to soak and enjoy myself! Poor Frodo--now he has to find another copy just to finish the story! I don't blame Bilbo, but neither do I blame Frodo aa single bit.

Author's reply

This one was part of one of Marigold's Challenges. Earth, Water, Fire, and Wind. Frodo got the water part. Since each was a small little story unto itself, I split this part off and put it here. I've read in the bath many times so this one is from experience in a way. LOL

Larner · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 6: Hide and Seek With Otho

Pippin and Dennis the Menace have a good deal in common! Heh! I loved rereading this one about the "old shoe."

Author's reply

I love the way little ones can miss-hear a thing and give it a whole new meaning. Bilbo was just lucky that Pip didn't give him away.

Larner · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 5: A Good Use For Punch

Another one that was well worth rereading! I'd forgotten about the use to which Saradoc put the bowl of punch! Heh!

Author's reply

Saradoc was resourceful in this one. I do like Saradoc Brandybuck. Thanks for re-reading and reviewing again.

Larner · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 4: A Toast

Poor lad--can't keep up with these two--or the serving lass! Heh!

Author's reply

No one can drink more and drink it better than those with serious years of practice. Frodo needs more practice.

Larner · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 3: An Evening With Bilbo

And the wee Took has been properly managed without realizing it at all, by the most devious Hobbit in the entire Shire! Love his idea that Bilbo just doesn't understand about children when in truth he understands them better than they do themselves! Heh!

Author's reply

I do believe that Bilbo would have been a match for any child, even a Took child. LOL

Larner · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 2: By His Side

And this one--no deviousness in this one--only the accepting mixed grief and pride of those who will guard the willing sacrifice until his time comes to go on alone to what only he can do. Deeply thoughtful.

Author's reply

This was one of my very rare serious ones. I always wonder where they come from when they turn up.

Larner · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 1: Rumors

Ah, been a good time since I read this one--definitely worth another read. Ah, Bilbo, you devious soul, you!

Author's reply

It would have been very difficult to get something over on Bilbo by this point. Spending time with Wizards, Elves, and Dwarves probably put him way ahead. That and just the fact that he is Bilbo Baggins.

Larner · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 0: A few words

Ah! Have I read any of these, I wonder? I hope to read at least some I've not seen before, although with your stories they're always worth a second read!

Author's reply

I don't know if you've read them or not. Some of them have been here for a while now. I sometimes forget this little grouping and then something turns up and I write another chapter for it. This time it was the Birthday. If you haven't read them then I do hope you enjoy them. And thank you for the very nice compliment. Happy 22nd!

harrowcat · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 12: A Shared Birthday

Thank you for your present to us all GW! :) ?should it be advise or advice?

Author's reply

Thank you for reading! I see you've found Waldo again too. Can't fool you, can I? Thanks! I corrected it. I really do appreciate the help. As you can tell, this, was not beta'd. Happy Bilbo and Frodo's Birthday to you!

harrowcat · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 11: Adventures Foretold

“Happy Birthday, Bilbo. May your life never be dull,” Sounds like the perfect wish for any birthday. Perhaps Belladonna was saying it a bit wistfully too even though she delcares that every day is an adventure.

Author's reply

Perhaps she was. Just because it's an adventure it doesn't mean it's the adventure you'd like to be having so maybe, like most parents she was wishing Bilbo a better life. Or maybe she really did find each day to be an adventure. Something to think about.

GamgeeFest · 29 December 2007 · Chapter 10: The Perils of Leaving the backdoor Ajar...

But there ain’t no eaves at Bag End, and that’s a fact. ;) Poor Frodo, he’ll be hearing about this for a long time, as well he should. He didn’t think his plan out very well at all, did he? I enjoyed Frodo’s horror when he realized he was thinking like Pippin, and Sam’s barely-contained amusement at the whole situation, as well as the lusty critters in the bread box. Hm, maybe this would be a good time for someone to invent the screen door. ;)

Author's reply

Glad you enjoyed Frodo's little disaster. Sam and the Gaffer enjoyed it very much. Those lusty critters in the bread box were kind of entertaining weren't they? I like your idea about a screen door. Maybe Sam could invent one. (That would make a good plot bunny for you.) Sam could start thinking about how to let the smell of the garden into the smial without letting in the wildlife and come up with a screen door! You should write that. Happy New Year!
