· Chapter 22: Something to be Thankful for
Somehow, unexpected bounty is even better than that you knew was there. The hobbits have something they can anticipate with pleasure - and that promises better times to come. The worst is over.
Author's reply
Whew. Always a pleasant thing to contemplate. Strawberries and cream ahead.

Brilliant Lindelea! There IS always something to be thankful for even in the worst of times but it is often very hard to see it. And having nothing to celebrate with would make it harder. Great time to find the 'gatherer's loot'.
Author's reply
Yes, it was a great time! I'm so glad I ran across that mention in my recent reading.

O I love it! Mari and Merry :). Again, I love your characterizations, and I love your Bell! She's a jewel! Poor Marigold, and how gallant of Merry to try and help her as he did. And what a lovely party-much bigger than planned, I'll warrant! :)

You and Dreamflower and others who do such challenges amaze me with the brilliant stories you spin and still manage to spell out the words! Pippin's perspective is perfect here, and I love the exerpt from Flames. I hope to get over here soon and read some longer ones, but so much fic, and never enough time to read it all, you know.

I love this! Your portrayal of Marigold is excellent, just the kind of sister Sam would have, I think. And as always I love your Rosie! :) I hope someday to write a story about the occupation, but for now I'm content to read and enjoy and be enthralled. :)

· Chapter 12: To Ask of Father Yule
Please, make my Da well.
This was crossed out, and underneath was more writing, smudged, as though a tear had dropped upon it.
Please, let my Da live.
Regi hastily shoved the paper under the Log and squeezed his eyes shut, wishing himself young and innocent and able to believe in miracles.
Now you've gone and done it! he seemed to hear young Andson's accusing voice echo in the back of his mind. Now it'll never come to be!
'Please,' Regi whispered to the Log. He knew not whom he addressed. To whom does Father Yule speak his wishes?
*wipes tears* Oh, how heart-rending! Poor Fari!
The servitors scarcely needed to light the hanging lamps with their long brass poles with the wicks at the end. Farry's smile was bright enough to light
the entire great room as he answered.
'Just that I have all I ever wanted,' he said. 'But you can stick this in for me, anyhow. I think that Father Yule just might read it in the smoke.' And
he pulled a very small slip of paper from his pocket, and handed it to the steward.
'O' course he will!' Merigrin said.
Farry stood to his feet and tousled Merigrin's curls. 'O' course he will!' he agreed, and taking the little ones' hands he led them singing from the great
room.
When the basket was full and the great room was again empty of children, Regi performed his duty of arranging the paper kindling around the Yule Log. He
saved Farry's note for last, and holding his breath, he stuffed the slip of paper in the middle of the rest, but not before his eye caught, as if by accident,
the writing that was there.
Thank you.
Beautiful! This made me cry.
God bless,
Galadriel

A belated reply to your response. I looked at this story again because Middlest had read it for the first time yesterday, and mentioned that it made her cry. She's in good company, it seems!
And so, thank you so much for reading and taking time to leave your thoughts.
*hugs* Hope you and yours are well.

· Chapter 11: A Very (Pippin) Yule
*giggling* Oh, how funny! Of course they'd never guess that sweet little Pippin, all unconscious innocence, was responsible for the whole matter! LOL! And so nice to read a story in which Lalia is at least somewhat likeable. I love your description of Yule, especially of Father Yule and his helper. :) You really have a rare way with words; your style reminds me somehow of Louisa May Alcott, though it's very different. Maybe because when I read your stories, I forget they're "only stories" and feel as if I'm really there.
God bless,

· Chapter 7: To Climb a Tree
*shudders* Oh, they were so close! It's a good thing they both think quickly. I just love seeing how the Hobbits always come through for each other in a crisis. But what happened to Ferdi? I'm afraid between so many portrayals I tend to mix them up.
God bless,
Galadriel
Author's reply
Thanks!
As for what happened to Ferdi, it's a very sad story, but it's part of what shaped him into the hobbit he became in later stories. When he was 19 (Pippin was 11) his father's stables burned down. His uncle ran in to save ponies and part of the roof fell in on him; his father ran in after his uncle and was trapped and seriously injured. His mother, maddened with grief, shoved Ferdi into the Water, where he nearly drowned, and she tried to shove Ferdi's sister into the Water as well (to keep them "safe"), and finally, jumped in herself and drowned.
Some of this is detailed in "Flames", more detail comes out in "Runaway", and still more in "Pearl of Great Price".
All of which are long stories! So it's possible you haven't read this background, or if you have, you might have forgotten it in the glut of chapters! (LOL)
Thanks again, and sorry for the delay in answering.

· Chapter 6: Heart Calls to Heart
*tears* O Lin! That is truly the most beautiful poem from Sam to his dear master that I have ever read. The structure is perfect, the lines so very poignant, expressive of love and grief without being overdone or making one feel desolate just to read it. It reads like something that ought to be sung and makes me want to read it over and over.

*giggling* Oh my! O....kay. Pippin obviously needs a good bath and a nice breakfast and then lots and lots of sleep. He's at the point where he's so tired that he's acting silly and won't realise how silly he's been until he's rested. :) This was hilarious!

Oh wow! Poor Prim! But Bilbo is a wonder, handling everything so well. Poor fellow was obviously taken aback and probably nervous, but he did what needed doing, and what a wonderful surprise for him! :)

Author's reply
I do think that Bilbo was a reservoir of experience (though perhaps not necessarily OB-Gyn experience) and common sense.
It's no wonder he adopted Frodo later in life!
Thanks!
LOL! Oh, I love it! That is priceless and a wonderful explanation of how such dignified Elves as we meet in LOTR could sing such silly songs as they did in the Hobbit!

Well there just had to be a logical explanation...
