Sorry to be replying to this so late! I read the hymn/prayer right away and loved it, esp. the religious parts - I am so glad he got to know his Creator - but didn't want to reply until I heard the music which I am now listening to which is cool too. :)
Namarie, God bless, Antane
Author's reply
Thanks Dearie, glad it works for you! I thought it was ALL religious parts lol Can't help wondering sometimes if Tolkien envisioned (if that's the right word) music for some of his songs. Seems he envisioned practically everything else, why not that? Unless he was musically impaired, perhaps.

This is beautiful, both the words and the music. It sounds so like Frodo, too! The music is just perfect; like a hymn, but with a very "Middle-earthish" sound to it. I always love your music. :)
God bless,
Galadriel
Author's reply
Why thank you Dearie! Glad you think it sounds like Frodo. Was really trying hard for that Middle-earthy sound and it wasn't easy. I actually wrote the melody over three times trying to get it just right!

I love this one. It is healing, to Frodo, to Boromir, to me.

Author's reply
Really?? Wow! Thanks for telling me...that makes my whole day! It's one of my own favorites too.
Got the idea for this one from a TORn messageboard too, when someone noted Boromir's absence from the reunion of the Fellowship in the movie...and I thought, what if his ghost were to appear there, maybe that's a plotbunny waiting to happen...but it insisted on being a poem instead of a fic. Guess it's a little of both!

Ah, well, you know, school is evil. ;) That and it's totally dried up my muse. I spent finals week desperately trying to get nine different papers written. *sigh* But thank goodness, I'm now on Christmas break, and recuperating with some much-needed vegetating. ;)
Hopefully my muse will return soon, but I will definitely try to at least comment more often. Though I'm strangely gratified to know that someone missed me. ;)
Merry Christmas and God bless,
Eruanna

Ah. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt and can't get into it any more....So! Yes, missed you lots, preciousss!! I hope your muse comes back soon too! My puter is currently in the hospital with double pneumonia (I'm using my mom's) but hopefully will be out by Tuesday afternoon! Then perhaps my muse will come back too.....
Well, vege out while you can! And a happy new year to you too!

Hey, remember me! I know, it's been a long time. But I've finally had a chance to sit down and read, and I just had to review this. It's such a beautiful and nostalgic piece, a deep and true meditation on love and loss and what remains. Thanks for such consistently lovely writing.
Christmas blessings,
Eruanna

Thanks! I got a little choked up writing it, myself. Seeing as how my best friend is way across the sea too and I don't know if or when I'll ever get to see her again.......
Merry Christmas to you too!

Yes, I can see Faramir lamenting so. Unfortunately, I read it before I read the description, and so missed who was meant to speak it. I could think of several pairs it might have been.
Author's reply
Yeah...I'm not entirely satisfied with it, but at the moment I can't really put my finger on what's wrong. Maybe I'll have to distance myself from it for another week or something. Well, we'll just see! Thanks!

· Chapter 38: Side By Side (Gimli)
I say only that there be
worse ways, if one must die
than this, knowing
the fate of the entire world
lies in my keeping, as a golden
lock of hair, and I
have been chosen to stand
side by side with friends.
I was born for this. I wish
only that I might know
what is to come after, and
if I shall revel in the prospect
of endless peace and light
Wonderful, as always! I can definitely imagine Gimli thinking/speaking... even singing this!
Author's reply
Thanks Shirebound! This one was particularly challenging, but kind of fun...trying to assume the persona of a grumpy dwarf coming to terms with what seems to be certain death, trying to spit in its face and appear calm and fearless, and wonder if the afterlife might be a bit dull for a long-term warrior, and so on. So glad I succeeded!

This is wonderful. I'm not often one for outright poetry, though I love a well written turn of phrase as much as the next author. But this is just outstanding. "I bite my thumb. I sneer!" It is a poem as a Dwarf would write it, a warrior's ballad. Perfect, and what a wonderful testament to our favorite Dwarf. Thank you!
Author's reply
Thank YOU Lamiel! Glad you think it sounds "dwarfish". It took some doing to make it so, to really get into Gimli's skin and sound tough, defiant, afraid, and resigned, all at the same time, quite a challenge. I'm thankful it worked.

In an odd way, one of the more moving movie moments, extended, expanded, exceptionalized.
Yes, this would make it worth while, going that way.
Author's reply
Yes, I thought that moment quite sweet, understated and unexpected. A great touch. And if one must die, the best way to go out is participating in a quest to save the world.

may those who flounder
in bogs of error be lifted
to a cleansing spring and a fresh path
so that the grace that was granted
to me might pass unto them
as a candle that lights another
with the bounding sparks
of joy and blessing.
Oh my. Truly beautiful.

Not hero worship, but worship of the heart? Very interesting idea. I've seen Frodo shown as in love with Arwen (by you, in fact!); but Merry not brother but would-be lover to Eowyn? Will have to contemplate that....

Oh, poor, poor, dear Frodo! You touched a chord with this one, Armariel. I'm dealing with this same problem in my story "The Last Days." Fortunately I still have a few chapters to think about it, but in the end, how *will* Frodo deliver such a blow to Sam's great, brave, loving heart? I think I have it partly figured out now, thanks to you. God bless,
Galadriel
Author's reply
I almost called it "There's No Kind Way to Say Goodbye" but thought that sounded a little too much like a country song...lol I'm curious to see your story now and delighted to be of help! We writers all touch each other in some ways, I think, and learn from each other.

· Chapter 34: Please Come Back....(Pippin)
Definitely movie-verse.
And so Faramir is called back, and indeed his line is too fine to be broken.
Love how you worked the image of Eowyn's head on Faramir's shoulder into the plea for him to awaken and turn from the dark.
Author's reply
Yeah, I did write another poem in which Faramir is called back, which was from Aragorn's pov, but the tone was wholly different. Figured Pippin wouldn't be using such high-flown language, but would speak simply and directly from the heart. (Not that the others wouldn't speak from the heart either!) Also thought it was time I got out of Frodo's head for a while--been stuck there an awfully long time, it seems!
Thanks for the FB!
