Happy Pippin - basking in the approval of his cousins and Sam. Celebration meals. Why am I so certain that something is about to blow? Merry's dreams - Pippin's sleeping habits - the Hobbiton rumour-machine - Tobias Tunnely's resentment. H'mm yes, there are just a few things that make me think that the story isn't over yet! I'm looking forward to more.

Author's reply

Waiting for disaster? LOL Well, there is a bit more of the story to come and so you might have a point that it's too early for a happy ending, but on the other hand, you just never know. I shall try not to give anything away. More on the dreams and Pippin's sleeping habits and more with Tobias Tunnely too! Thanks for the review!

Baggins Babe · 23 October 2005 · Chapter 16: Part 16

Ah! The great wheelbarrow project is unveiled at last! I love how the gossip soon has the wheelbarrow much larger and with more additional features than Pippin and Sam could ever have thought of. Funny how this always happens with rumour. I loved Pip saying that he 'almost' hit Sam with the hammer! Good thing Sam's reactions are faster than old Tobias. I was delighted to see Sam receive the praise he deserved, and I'm glad they had such a splendid celebration. Looking forward to another update soon, and I think I know who will be receiving the wheelbarrow! Now if we could find out why Pip won't sleep in his bed...........

Author's reply

Ah, another person with the answer to 'who is getting the wheelbarrow'! I wonder if you're right. You'll have to let me know. I thought that Sam deserved a bit of praise for his patience and I am guessing the the rumor of his new 'carpentry business' will get back to him as well. Everyone else is talking about it. Thanks for reviewing!

henry · 23 October 2005 · Chapter 16: Part 16

Oh that was so sweet and funny! Sounds like they really celebrated Pippin's work properly. And Sam surely got more praise than he expected. The describtion of the old tutor's worries was really funny. Maybe his students won't take all prices this year.. just like that dark year when Sam participated. I still enjoy this very much. Now there's only a few mysteries we need to solve. Like Pippin's sleeping habits, Merrys dreams and how the wheelbarrow is judged at the fair.. Please update soon! henry

Author's reply

I love it when Sam gets praise and credit for what he has done because he is so humble all of the time. He is a hard worker and he has been very patient with Pippin so he deserves his share of praise. I also thought that it was about time that Pippin's ego got a build-up. He'd been feeling pretty low about things for a while. And Tobias deserves to know that he isn't the only one in the Shire that can teach carpentry. LOL Thanks for reading and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Dreamflower · 22 October 2005 · Chapter 16: Part 16

Now you had better not let that Tobias Tunnelly lay so much as a pinkie finger on Pip's beautiful wheelbarrow. I hope Pip kicks butt at the Fair, most especially Mr. Tobias "No one knows carpentry like I do" Tunnelly! I am glad for the gossipy Proudfoots, though. TT is going to have some of his own sleepless nights I hope. I was tickled pink at Frodo's and Merry's reaction to it, especially Merry's obvious and sincere appreciation of his little cousin's ingenuity--those extra wheels are just the kind of thing an inventive fellow like Merry *would* appreciate. And I am fairly certain I've guessed who Pippin will be giving the wheelbarrow to...

Author's reply

I can't wait to see if you've guessed correctly. I felt like having a celebration myself because the wheelbarrow was finally finished. LOL I did think that both Sam and Pippin deserved a night out and what better way to celebrate a wheelbarrow than to eat enough food to fill one? Tunnely will be back for the fair at least if not before. I do like to have the hobbits run wild with a story so the gossip part was fun to write. Thanks for reading and more will be up soon!

Anso the Hobbit · 22 October 2005 · Chapter 15: Part 15

Oooh, lovely walking-trip-stalling-time moment between the cousins. It is so obvious that Pippin is stalling but why? Merry's dreams are a bit disturbing though, but they always mean that Pip isn't in his bed and he has discovered that now thankfully. Eagerly awaiting more. :D

Author's reply

More before too long, hope to post today sometime. Glad you are enjoying it. Merry is having his share of strange dreams in this, isn't he? Thanks for the review!

GamgeeFest · 21 October 2005 · Chapter 15: Part 15

LOL, the Gaffer's always got good and sensible advice! "What was that about spoons?" hehe. I love his pride in Sam also and that Frodo had offered him the job properly. Another dream and more of the Pippin-sleeping mystery. You love tormenting this with us, don't you? Though, I guess I can't really complain, now can I, lol.

Author's reply

You've found me out. I am in to torture. (and no, you really can't complain. I nearly died of the suspense when I was reading "A Tale that Grew in the Telling".) I do think that the Gaffer would have been very proud of Sam and Frodo might have done well to take his advice. LOL

MaidenofValinor · 21 October 2005 · Chapter 15: Part 15

RAWR! So suspenseful...I must know! The scene between Frodo and Gaffer was done quite well, I think. Very nice dialogue.

Author's reply

Thank you. Such a nice thing to say! I am having fun writing the Gaffer. I may just have to start putting him in all of the stories!

Jeodo Brandybuck · 21 October 2005 · Chapter 15: Part 15

Oooh, this is making me crazy. Everytime there's a new part of this story, I read it with an eye on the side guide of my screen, checking to see how much more there is to go. There's never enough there, as I'm enjoying it so thoroughly. I look forward to each installment, very much. Thanks for an enchanting read! Jeodo

Author's reply

You are being way too nice, but don't stop. LOL Thank you and I am glad that you like it. I shall try to make the next chapter longer. Thanks so much for reviewing!

Andrea · 21 October 2005 · Chapter 15: Part 15

And I still have no idea, what's really going on... Merry's inventiveness is really admirable. But this time, it didn't bring him closer to a solution. "What was that about spoons?" Merry asked yawning. "Never you mind," Frodo said. Hehe, that was great! I learned a new word from you: spooning. And with this story in my mid, I think I won't forget it so easily. Thank you, G.W. !

Author's reply

Hey, I taught somebody something! Maybe now I can consider this to be an educational story? So glad that you are still enjoying this one. Merry is very clever but he still isn't any closer to an answer than Frodo is. More soon!

Maripo5a · 21 October 2005 · Chapter 7: Part 7

Hi there! Pipwise was praising this story to the skies when I met up with her a couple of weeks ago, and I'm finally getting a chance to read it. It's wonderful! Funny and clever and very, very reall, with exactly the right hobbity touch. Just wanted to pause here and tell you how much I'm enjoying it. :-) Now on to the next chapter!

Author's reply

Hi back at ya! That was so sweet of Pipwise. I'm glad you are enjoying it so far. This one took on a life of its own. It wasn't supposed to be this long. LOL Thanks for the lovely review and I do hope that you enjoy the rest of this.

Bodkin · 21 October 2005 · Chapter 15: Part 15

I'm going to have to go back to the beginning and read it again looking for room clues. Because if Pippin isn't even willing to swop rooms and let Merry sleep there . . . I loved his side-tracking - the reading, the soldiers, the snack, the walk. But in the end he had to go into the room - only to emerge later and sleep on the sofa. Very very tantalising. Looking forward to more!

Author's reply

Tantalising! I love that word. Thank you. Glad you liked Pippin's efforts to keep from going to bed. There will be more posted soon and thank you for reviewing!

shirebound · 21 October 2005 · Chapter 15: Part 15

I can't imagine what's troubling Pippin!

Author's reply

You'll have some answers before too much longer.

SlightlyTookish · 21 October 2005 · Chapter 15: Part 15

Heehee. I loved the Gaffer's conversation with Frodo and then Merry waking up and asking about spoons :D But you're still torturing me. Merry's had that dream for a few times now and it creeps me out every time. What is the connection between that and Pippin not wanting to sleep in his bed (or in Merry's. I was surprised that he didn't jump at the chance to switch rooms). I can't wait to find out! When's the next chapter being posted? :)

Author's reply

The next chapter should be up sometime tomorrow night if all goes well. I am having a wonderful time with the Gaffer. I'm glad you liked his part in this chapter. I'm getting very attached to him. The sleeping problem will soon have an answer. Pippin and I can't keep this up for too much longer. LOL Thanks for reading!

Auntiemeesh · 21 October 2005 · Chapter 15: Part 15

I love Pippin's hundred and one excuses to not go to bed. That poor lad, something is really bothering him. Either that or he's just having fun playing mind games on Merry and Frodo, lol. That recurring dream of Merry's is becoming a bit disturbing. I think it's interesting that he started having those dreams before anyone realized Pippin wasn't sleeping in his room. I'll be keeping my eyes open for more this weekend. :)

Author's reply

That would be an interesting little trick for Pippin to play, wouldn't it? I suspect that if he did do that, Frodo and Merry would hang him. LOL There will be more this weekend and thanks for reading!

Imrahoil · 21 October 2005 · Chapter 15: Part 15

Could we know why he doesn't want to sleep in a bed or are you just not playing fair? Hmm? I'd like to be on the safe side before I rack my brains (and all the prior chapters).

Author's reply

Answers are on the way I assure you. It won't be long now. I will be posting more this weekend. But if I answer your question here then I'll be giving away too much. This is one of those wait and see things. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing!

Larner · 21 October 2005 · Chapter 15: Part 15

No sleeping at night in a bed? Now he has ALL of us bugged! Poor Frodo--having to try to figure out what on earth is going through the young Took's strange little brain!

Author's reply

That's a tough thing to try and do even for Frodo. Somebody needs to get busy and think like a Took! More soon and thanks for reading!

Dreamflower · 21 October 2005 · Chapter 15: Part 15

Oh my goodness, GW, this is so intriguing. I am wracking my brain to figure it out. Merry's dream seems very ominous. This is what? Third time? Fourth? I love some of the little details you put in. I adored the image of Pippin asleep with his head in his cousin's lap, and the half-eaten apple falling from his hand. Such a very vivid detail. Looking forward to more.

Author's reply

I've seen that happen when a person falls asleep with something in their hand and as they relax they drop it. Also I could imagine Pippin falling asleep while trying to finish off all of those apples that he insisted on bringing along. Glad you liked it. More on the sleep problems before too long!

Anso the Hobbit · 20 October 2005 · Chapter 14: Part 14

Finally got time to read this! Sam deserves a medal for his patience and good training of Pippin I think. And I am really wondering what happened that had Pip sleep in the barn instead of his bed... :)Merry should have helped Frodo figure it out more though, not go take a nap and leave it all to Frodo.

Author's reply

I think Merry will get his chance to help out before too long. He may be very glad that he's had a nap. Sam is really giving the lessons his full effort and I think that Pippin is benefiting from that. Nothing like a patient teacher to make a difference. More on the mystery of Pippin's sleep problems before long. Thanks for reviewing!

TopazTook · 17 October 2005 · Chapter 14: Part 14

Curiouser and curiouser this not sleeping in his room thing becomes...Now that there seems a solution in sight, I want answers!:) Got a few chuckles from the hammer scene. Seems quite an appropriate one, given the title of the story. Also enjoyed the Frodo and Merry interaction where Merry sits down at the table in his nightshirt and Frodo's comment "Fine. Don't bother to explain."

Author's reply

I have to keep the hammer in the plot because that is how this entire thing out started. LOL Sam is gradually making an improvement in Pippin's skills, but he is still having to work at it. Good thing he is the patient sort. Poor Frodo even has his hands full with Merry, doesn't he? LOL Thanks for the reviews and for all of your help on this one!

MaidenofValinor · 17 October 2005 · Chapter 14: Part 14

ooooh...The suspense is killing me! I probably should have figured it out by now, but, what can I say? I'm sorta slow... looking forward to finding out, though. This really grabbed my interest from the beginning.

Author's reply

Frodo hasn't figured it out yet either. I hope to have it all sorted out before too much longer. Thanks for reading and for reviewing this one! More will be posted soon!

PIppinfan1988 · 17 October 2005 · Chapter 14: Part 14

Frodo's getting closer to Pippin's sleeping problem...will I want to Hammer on Tunnelly's head again? LOL, will Merry? I shall stay tuned... Sam and Pippin are too cute together! Sam is a wonderful teacher. LOL, Pippin is a marvelous DODGER! Go, Pip! Thank you for another great chapter! Pippinfan

Author's reply

Glad you enjoying this one. I am guessing that this went well with your lunch break? Frodo may have his answers soon enough. I am hoping to get to the bottom of that in another chapter or three. LOL Wish me luck! Pip was a bit like another English Lit. character in this chapter, The Artful Dodger. LOL Thanks so much for reading!

Andrea · 17 October 2005 · Chapter 14: Part 14

"Well, this is my hammer hand," Pippin said raising his right hand so that Frodo could look at it. "I might injure it writing and not be able to hammer anything tomorrow. I already have two sore thumbs and so if my hand cramps up from all of this writing then how will I hammer anything?" - LOL!!! Creative indeed. Well, Frodo is doing his best to figure out the "sleeping-problem", but I must admit, I'm as confused as Merry now ;-) "If you ask me, we are right back at the beginning, Frodo," Merry said. "We still don’t know a thing."

Author's reply

Clever excuse, wasn't it? I doubt this sort of thing will work on Frodo though. I do think Pippin deserves points for effort. LOL Both you and Merry will have your answers in a chapter or two so stay with me. Thanks for the lovely reviews and for reading!

Bodkin · 17 October 2005 · Chapter 14: Part 14

Merry at breakfast in his nightshirt. And both Merry and Sam being cagey. And Pippin sleeping in Merry's bed. I really approve of Sam taking Pippin back to the beginning and teaching him how to handle a hammer. Pippin is bright enough - and a quick learner in some ways, but he definitely seems to be dyspraxic. He does need to be taught some of these physical skills that seem to come naturally to others. I'm longing to know what Pippin has against his bedroom. Frodo seems to be getting closer to understanding - but I'm not! And of course Pippin shouldn't be writing if it risks straining his hammering hand. How unreasonable of Frodo!

Author's reply

Poor Frodo. Everyone is hiding something and all he wants to do is get everything out in the open and solved. He certainly has his hands full on this issue. Sam may have saved himself some serious pain by being clever enough to teach Pippin how to use that hammer. Better safe than sorry in this case. LOL There will be an answer to the bedroom question before too long. This can't become an epic novel. I refuse to run off at the mouth that much! Thanks for revieiwng!

Baggins Babe · 17 October 2005 · Chapter 14: Part 14

I love this story so much - Frodo racking his brains to try and work out why Pip doesn't want to sleep in his room; Merry being slightly defensive, and pouring cold water on Frodo's ideas, and dear, wonderful, practical Sam, patiently teaching Pip the basics of carpentry. I loved the 'You're running out o' thumbs!' line!!!! And Pip's creative excuses for not doing his writing just made me roll about - the inventiveness of the Tooks! Great stuff!

Author's reply

Thanks! Glad you are enjoying it still. Pippin is very clever and once he starts using that for the proper things he should do quite well. Seems he still isn't too wild about his writing lessons. Looks like Sam is turing out to be the better teacher or maybe he just has the more entertaining subject.

GamgeeFest · 16 October 2005 · Chapter 14: Part 14

Hm, I think I know what it is that is making Pippin not sleep in the room. I'll wait and see if I'm right. :) Pippin and that darn hammer! At least Sam got out of this without anything happening to him this time and without a hammer to his head. Pippin just needed the proper instruction and Sam is the perfect one to give him that. And your Sam is doing wonderfully btw. I think you have him down pat now. :) I can't wait to see Tunnely's reaction to the wheelbarrow. He'll be eating his words, if he can get his big fat foot out of his mouth, that is.

Author's reply

So you've so.ved the puzzle, have you? I can't wait to see if you're right. So glad to know that my Sam is still on track. Thanks again for keeping watch over him. He still has work to do. There's this fair coming up..... Mister Tunnely may indeed be in for a surprise.
