Wow! That scene always gets to me - I always end up with tears running down my face but I want to stand up and cheer at the same time - it really is the most glorious, mad, awe-inspiring battle-scene.
You capture Merry's thoughts perfectly, Pearl.
Author's reply
Thank you so much Baggins Babe :-) It truly is a powerful scene. Tolkien once said that it was one of his favorite scenes - that he would think of it whenever he heard horn calls.

Hehehehe...if you can't beat'em, join'em! I loved it! So very like Pippin and Merry -- loved your Frodo, btw. :-)
Very light-hearted and extremely amusing! I enjoyed every bit of it. :-)

Oh, Pip! You are such a, a tweenager! Love this tale, Pearl. As good as/or better than the rest. Keep going...more, please!

Some nights I know just how Pippin feels. Great stuff Pearl. *Sends Golden lots of Yule-tide goodies to feed the plot Bunnies!*
Author's reply
Me too! Although I more often feel like Merry as my husband is a restless sleeper who also snores :-)
Thank you harrowcat, and I'll pass the goodies on to Golden ;-)

Enjoyed this little fic, Pearl! I really like stories that go into the minds of the characters and let us know what they're thinking. This was cool!

Most awesomely well done, Pearl! I do love the type of drama that depicts what a person thinks as they approach danger, elation, or whatever. I came upon the bivouac of Merry and the soldiers in ROTK (book) while doing other research and just before their final leg toward Minas Tirith, Merry *twice* imagines poor Pippin shut up and helpless in the Stone City and desires to rescue him. In this lovely movie-centric scene I think you complimented that.
Btw...I think you did a fantastic job with Merry!
Author's reply
Wow! And here I was fearing that I was pushing the Pippin issue. It is cool to know I wasn't :-)
Thank you so much dear Pippinfan! :-)

“Pippin! Pippin!” my heart is screaming although my mouth is silent.
There is no hope on the plains before us, only death.

My dear Pearl,
That was great! I could see the movie scene while reading your story. And it was a scene that moved me very much.
Even Merry, a hobbit from the peaceful Shire, can't resist the battle call!
I found a song recently, which is called "MARCH OF CAMBREADTH" by Heather Alexander. Here's an excerpt of it that reminded me immediately of the scene you described:
Use your shield and use your head
Fight ‘til everyone is dead
Raise the flag up to the sky
How many of them can we make die?
Last but not least: MEWD :)
Author's reply
Wow, a MEWD! Thank you so much Andrea :-)
Those are harsh words in that song, but sometimes I'm sure that is what it is like.

Such a perfect story for the season! The dream, the missing stars and seven sisters and seven lasses and green scarf left in his hand--all of it is perfectly blended to leave a feeling of eeriness and yet rightness.
Excellently done, madam.
Author's reply
Thank you Larner :-) I'm glad you felt it warranted an "Excellently done"!

Well, it was rather mean of the seven lasses to trap Pippin in that passage. And then the kiss! I can understand his reaction.
Whisky is a very powerful liquid!
If Pippin hadn't found the green scarf when he awoke, I would have blamed it all on the whisky ;-)
But now the question remains: Was it more than a dream? I don't expect an answer, though! That's for the reader to decide.
(Devil's Tower is very impressive. I found a picture at Wikipedia.)
Author's reply
Indeed, Andrea, it is for you and others to decide. Those lasses were quite awful, trapping him and all.
Thank you so much :-)

Somehow I missed this when you first posted it! No time to read more of your stories (I glanced over the new one *shiver* but no time to leave feedback), but wanted to comment on this. Goodness, clever Pippin, to feign being dead in order to get help!
(I wonder just how Everard fixed Dellie's wagon?)
Whew. Glad Pippin is no longer being chased by bullying girls.
Author's reply
Quite all right, Lin :-)
I'm not sure we'll ever know what transpired ;-) It was clever, especially as he was drunk at the time.

· Chapter 6: With Love
Oh!! How did I miss this little gem of a story? This is lovely Pearl and I too was given a gift of Crochet hooks one Christmas. Only mine was a complete set. They were and still are one of the greatest Christmas gifts my sister's ever given me and have kept a lot of little Preemies at my local Neo Natal Unit warm over the years.
“Those fancy made needles and hooks,” Bell breathed in disbelief. “Ya noticed me lookin’ at them. Ya noticed.”
“Yes. I’m sorry there are only three of each. I hope . . .”
“Only three of each! Only?” She threw her arms around him holding him tightly for a few moments before noticing the quilt had fallen off of him. She pulled it back into place then hugged him some more. “It’s a treasure, that’s what. A treasure like . . . like . . . a dragon’s hoard! A treasure.”
Yes, they really were treasure to Bell who never knew a store bought gift in her life before this. As to only three of each in a different size...I'm sure all of the Gamgees were kept warm thanks to those needles and hooks in "only three sizes" over the years. Gifts of love do tend to create gifts of love in return.
I've also learned to knit the last couple of years and I'm hoping to be giving a pair of socks to someone in my family this year. I still find it slow going compared to crochet and I think I'll always prefer crochet over knitting. However, I'm rather proud of trying to learn how to knit on and off since I was eight, that I've finally gotten the hang of the thing. ;o)
What a lovely, warm and sweet little story. Thanks for sharing it w/us Pearl!! :o)
Author's reply
Thank you so very much Tigger!
I knit as well :-) I like the fabric itself better with knit, but crochet is definitely faster! That is so sweet that you donate to the neo natal unit :-)
It is so nice to get a review on a story that was posted quite awhile ago, I'm so glad you found this and liked it so much.
Thank you!

You did great with the elements for the story! I can empathise with Pervinca wanting to make new friends, but I have a hard time feeling sorry for Delly. I *can* see how this situation probably shaped Pervinca into one of the Terrible Took Sisters, though. :-P Next time she'll help to be her brother's protector. Pippin sure learned an invaluable lesson, as well.
Well done!
Author's reply
Hi PippinFan!
Yes, don't take every wager/dare that comes your way! I do feel Paladin's children would have had some trouble adjusting to life in the fishbowl of Great Smials. So glad you liked it :-)

omg, Pearl this is TOO CUTE!!! Poor wee Pippin reminds me of that old picture of the little girl standing in the corner. He's so adorable -- it ought to be illegal to be so darling, lol. Frodo's re-designing is wonderful, too.

· Chapter 45: Pippin and the Empty Bottle
Oh my! What a situation!
Of course, Pippin was well-behaved and did not dare to trick tweenaged lasses. But, if you ask me, I'd say that Delphinium was far away from behaving like a tweenager. There would have been other ways to show Pippin her love.
However, I'm confident that she will find herself a suitable partner someday. She's still young.
And Pippin? He'll be fine when the hangover is gone. And Paladin should be right proud of him. But I don't know if he's of the same opinion ;-)
Author's reply
Yes, my version of Paladin will be proud of his son for not going along with Delphinium's urges. He will probably give him a talking to about the wagers he takes on . . .
Delphinium was acting a great deal like a tweenager who is close to coming of age, although like an over enthusiastic one.
I hope she'll find someone as well :-)
Thank you Andrea!
