Oh, this is wonderful! New friends, and soon, a pony!! Poor Frodo, though, I know how the ball thing feels. *sigh* The only ball I was ever good at was "beep ball" (basically baseball adapted for the blind), and oh! I loved it! But I don't think I'll take it up again, even so. I just love the life you put into this. Fabulous, my dear! Can't wait for more!
God bless,
Galadriel
Author's reply
I'm so glad you're back "in the Loop", to use the expression. Yes, soon a pony. Still debating a name though... Trust me, the ball thing came from first hand experience many, many times. It was *so* humiliating. I didn't want to be the sissy, so I played anyway, even though I knew good and well I couldn't do it good. I was never passed the ball. It's hard though, when you're trying to fit in, but the only thing everyone does is something you're not good at. Beep ball sounds fun!! LOL! I'm glad you liked it! Namarie!

Oooh! Frodo's got new friends! *bounces happily* I like Folco already! I want to find out what happens next, only, I'm going to be away for the next month. *sigh* (Well, I'm not really going away, I'm just taking a break from Fanfic. I left a note on my story "The Latter Days") I'll read it all when I come back!
God bless,
Ellie
Author's reply
Oh, I will miss you! I may be taking a break as well. I didn't find chapter 26, though. Sorry! I'm glad you like it! I had to give Frodo a friend. Five months of loneliness is quite enough, I think. :( I know how it feels. Anyway, I will await your return with anticipation! Namarie!

Cute ending! I'm surprised Sam hasn't been there at Bag End every minute already. :) Good his gaffer sorted out all that guilt he had.
Namarie, God bless, Antane
Author's reply
Sam's been wanting to be there, but he's been working with the Gaffer and worrying about him being the cause of Frodo's fight. Yes, I imagine that Gaffer was a good father and gently helped his children to figure out their own problems, giving them a little hint when they need it. :) Like Frodo, Sam tends too feel guilty about everything. Hannon le for reviewing! Namarie!

Oh, poor Frodo!! I hope that healer gets there soon so Bilbo can stop worrying. That's true--the lack of protest at sending for a healer would make him worry all the more about the extent of Frodo's injuries. It certainly sounds like Lotho did a number on the poor dear. I would NOT want to be Lotho when Bilbo gets ahold of him.
Looking forward to Frodo and Folco's meeting, as well.
Author's reply
My dear Elemmire,
That is a beautiful name! My Elvish is a bit rusty, so would you mind terribly telling me what it means?
Yes, That Loatho did do Frodo in, but Frodo fought back, as you'll see later. Hannon le for reviewing! Namarie!

At last another chapter!!! Love that bear hug the most of course. :) And what a nice surprise to hear from the queen too! Does that mean it's okay to start writing Frodo again? It's been so long since I've heard from him and I miss him.
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
Oh, Antane! I am so glad to hear from you again!! I've been missing you too. Er...Frodo and I have, or...yeah. :) Oh, I know. It was wonderful to hear from her. I can't believe that she actually had the chance to read and review! I was so pleased. Frodo says he would love to write you again. HOwever, Sam will be out of it for a while, for he is on some long forestry business and won't be back for another two weeks. Hannon le for reviewing. And I apologize for the long delay! Namarie!

Made it over for a bit this morning. I love this! I love this! Byut that is an EVIL CLIFF-HANGER, Frodo Baggins! How could you? More please! Plllleeeeeeeeease! You make Hobbiton seem so very real. Oh, but our poor dear! Yes, indeed tbat healer had better get there on the double, or s/he'll have more to reckon with than Bilbo! Now, in case no one eles has...
Then: First I washed the dishes, then I went to the market.
Than: I bought a great load of vegetables, but Mrs. Smith bought more than I did.
Just some examples, hope that helps. Off to read "Healer" now! Hoooray!
God bless, ammelda nilde!

Author's reply
Oh...oh you don't know how, well, surprised I am to get a review from *you* of all people! I can't believe it! I'm so happy that you could read this. I know, Ellie already told me the cliff hanger was evil, but I'll get around to it when I can. *elusive smile* THanks for the then/than tips. It was late, my brain was dead, and well...yeah. Hannon le! See you in two weeks!!!! Namarie!

· Chapter 3: Hobbiton
THEN
Then has a variety of meanings and is used primarily as an adverb but can also be used as a noun. An adverb is a word used to alter the meaning of another word or phrase (either a verb, adjective, adverb or prepositional phrase) and there are a variety of ways then can be used as an adverb.
1. to indicate a certain time (The parties were wild back then.)
2. next in order; soon afterward (I drank the whole bottle, then didn’t feel very well. The order of the first four planets is Mercury, Venus, Earth then Mars.)
3. in addition to (My dislocated shoulder was really hurting, then the pain doubled when the doctor yanked it back into place.)
4. in that case (If the phone rings then answer it.)
5. on the other hand (She has nice features, but then, she is only a line drawing)
6. As a noun, then has only limited use. Primarily it’s used to refer to a specific time. (Before then, there’s no point trying.)
THAN
Than is primarily used as a conjunction and sometimes as a preposition. As a conjunction it is typically used together with an adjective as a way of comparing two things. e.g. I am taller than you are. The mood in here is much different than the mood outside.
Somewhat confusingly than can also be used (as a conjunction) in much the same situation as then might be used to indicate a point in time, with the resultant meaning of the sentence being different in a subtle way. Consider the following two sentences.
I had scarcely taken my first sip than the wine went to my head.
I had just taken my first sip, then the wine went to my head.
The first of the sentences uses than in a very specific way which (as far as I know) always involves one of the words scarcely or hardly. To make the second sentence a little bit nicer I have also changed scarcely to just but that need not have been done. The second sentence uses then as in definition/example two above.
As well as being used as a conjunction, than can be used as a preposition. Although its usage as a preposition is wide spread, especially in speech, many hard core grammartarians still regard the use of than this way as incorrect.
Hope this helps.
Debra Bobo

Ooooh that Lotho!!!! *growls* Good chapter, hope Frodo gets better soon! "Then" is used when talking about time, as in "Then Frodo did such and such" whereas than is used in sentances like a comparison, as in "Frodo is different than most hobbits" Does that help any? Please update soon, I don't think I can wait much longer to see if Frodo is all right!
God bless,
Ellie

This is a nice little vignette, and I do hope that you expand on some of the possibilities here. There are some lovely touches that add depth to the scene -- Bilbo fiddling with something in his pocket, the Gaffer reminding Sam of the social difference between him and Frodo. I do hope to see that relationship develop over time. It's good to see Frodo so optimistic about his new life at Bag End.
Author's reply
Hannon le! It is hard to optimistic, especially about moving, but sometimes one just needs a change. Thanks for the encouragement!

Awww! This is such a sweet chapter! And I see our meeting between Sam and Frodo doesn't differ much-except this one happened three years later than mine. :) (Speaking of, you have "I just turned six." Should be "I just turned nine.") Aging systems can complicate things, can't they? :) i'm constantly getting figures mixed up. And I loved Bilbo's remark about Bag End needing someone with so much spirit and liveliness! Yes, that's what both he and Bag End wanted. He's such a wonderful uncle! :) I have a feeling something is going to happen when they go into hobbiton. I hope it isn't a meeting with those dreadful S.B.s...
God bless,
Galadriel
Author's reply
Hannon le, my faithful reviewer!! :) Yes, to be frank, the meeting was pulling from several different stories that I really liked. I know, it wasn't my best, but I was tired and half brain dead. Thanks for correcting that slip of the pen...or fingers. :) Very perceptive, mell min. Something is going to happen. I hadn't thought of a run in with S.B.'s though. I can arrange something, however. *wicked grin*

Despite the aura of sadness that hangs over this, I found it very sweet. It's lovely to see how naturally Saradoc and Esme fall into taking care of Frodo, and Bilbo seems very much in character -- genial and loving, he clearly would like to adopt Frodo now, but he's waiting until it's a more appropriate time to do that.
Author's reply
Yes, there is an aura of sadness. But how can a young lad losing his parents not be sad? How can anybody dying not be sad? But worry not, mellon nin, though this story has some rough roads ahead, there are sweet and happy moments as well. Thank you for your encouraging words on how the characters are all in character. I try to stay book cannon, though sometimes I am apt to stray. :)

Hannon le! Looking forward to writing more...when I get the chance! I like the title too...I thought that the Ring was forged and so it would be appropriate for the Ringbearer to be forged. Also, the Bible says we are refined like silver, meaning we go through hard times to shape our character. Frodo had a hard life, forging him for the great task he was appointed to do...:) Namarie, mellon nin!

Oh, this got me crying! Poor little Frodo! I like your portrayal of "Uncle Sara and Aunt Esme," and i always enjoy seeing how different authors handle this traumatic event. Hmmm...glad I've got a while to think about it. Poor little dear, he does need a mother figure. And I can sympathise with the overwhelming "Oh, I am so sorry, darling. If there's anything I can do..." It doesn't help. I can't wait to see more of this!
God bless,

Author's reply
Thank you, Queen Galadriel. But due to an interesting little lapse of brain waves and what not, this wasn't supposed to go here!! Can you imagine?! I am beginining to believe that I am cracked. :) The next chapter is going to jump a lot of years (and I mean alot) to the time when Frodo goes to live at Bag End. Yeah, I know. But I am planning on writing a completely seperate story to cover the time he was orphaned. I forgot how to count to three...First part: Frodo living with Bilbo, second part: Frodo alone at Bag End, Third part: His journal of the Quest. And somehow I thought I had to include the earlier years of his life. Sorry, it's almost like I've written a whole fanfic here. :) Namarie, mellon nin!

Well, now, this is a good way to start off a day. I feel so sorry for poor lil' Frodo, but I'm sure he's had enough of people saying how they knew his parents and such. To lose parents at such a young age can do somethin' to a child, but at least Frodo knows he was three certain 'uncles' and 'aunt' who love him very much.
Author's reply
Hannon le! I am sorry for any confusion, but the next chapter is going to jump alot of years, and then the story will slow way down. Yes, losing parents at such a young age would do something to a child, but especially a child as observant as Frodo. God Bless,
