walkerskye · 28 January 2012 · Chapter 33: Spring Chicken

Reading one of your recipe stories at bedtime just makes me want to sneak to the kitchen for a late night snack, but there s nothing out there that sounds as good as Sam s chicken! I ll have to try that recipe come Sunday. Why not post a whole Hobbity cookbook?

PIppinfan1988 · 28 January 2012 · Chapter 86: Making the Best of It

Oh, my!! I really, really enjoyed this sweet and wonderful tale! I also believe Pippin and his sisters had difficulty fitting in at Great Smials. Such a wonderfully written tale! Thank you for an especially lovely tale to keep one occupied while getting her car oil changed at the dealership.

Larner · 22 January 2012 · Chapter 95: House of Mirth

And I rejoice that this home that Frodo barely visited as an adult still was blessed by the love of those he loved. And I still love that it is a Fosco who refounds the Baggins family--you know how much that means to me. And love the reinfusion of Goold blood into the family, the first I'm aware of since Menegilda married Rorimac. Excellent!

Antane · 11 January 2012 · Chapter 94: The First Night Out of Bree

That is indeed standing a beloved thing on its head - hobbits not liking the pile. Dear me, what's next, not liking mushrooms? :) And it's not just fanon since nights spend in Mordor were spent the same way. Poor Aragorn. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Larner · 6 January 2012 · Chapter 94: The First Night Out of Bree

Aha! I love the number of fanons being busted here! And I do like the idea of Strider liking to be clean and cleanly shaved when possible, too. Delightful!

Lindelea · 26 December 2011 · Chapter 94: The First Night Out of Bree

LOLOLOL! No grubby rangers here, for starters (and believable, somehow, considering he was raised among Elves, and unless it's fanon, they're fairly familiar with soap and water, are they not? ...although I'm most familiar with baths as associated with hobbits, so I might be taking a stab in the dark. And away with the so-familiar pile of sleeping hobbits, which I have both used and avoided, depending on what sort of story I was writing... (very common in the parodies, certainly, but I don't remember if I've used it in more serious stories) Thank you for the chuckle! Indeed, hobbits can be a great deal of trouble, but they have their redeeming qualities as well.

cathleen · 21 December 2011 · Chapter 94: The First Night Out of Bree

Lol! Loved it!!

6336 · 14 December 2011 · Chapter 94: The First Night Out of Bree

Poor Strider having to herd this lot to Rivendell! Of course their eyes are brown, it is only movie Frodo and Pippen who have differant coloured eyes! No Hobbit Piles for these four it seems, they will learn, oh yes, they will learn, young Padawan, oops, sorry, wrong movie! Ooo, dry shaving, not good, no fun, hot bath and soap is a very good thing, he does clean up well when given the opportunity! Huggs, Lynda

Larner · 8 December 2011 · Chapter 93: Wakenings

This trilogy is so very gently beautiful, Dreamflower. I can see each vignette clearly as I read. And each thank you is so well offered.

Baggins Babe · 5 December 2011 · Chapter 93: Wakenings

Awwwww!! This is really beautiful, Dreamflower. Perfect little vignettes showing the respect and love between these brothers of the spirit. This made my day.

Andrea · 29 November 2011 · Chapter 92: Belladonna's Gift

Oh, what a beautiful and touching story! And a wonderful farewell present. I do agree that Bilbo looks a lot like Pippin in these pictures! And that's not a bad thing :-) His mother would have been proud.

Larner · 24 November 2011 · Chapter 92: Belladonna's Gift

Indeed, Belladonna must have made it for Bilbo! How gorgeous a "coat of many colors"! He reminds me a good deal of Billy Boyd as Pippin here!

Author's reply

Who else would have worked so hard on such a garment? He does look extremely Tookish in that one picture! I'm so pleased that there seems to be some family resemblance. That was one thing about the casting of the hobbits: each of the three young men had some (though not all)features in common, which made it very easy to think of them as cousins! (It was especially obvious in some of the publicity shots showing them dressed in their post-Quest finery!)

6336 · 22 November 2011 · Chapter 92: Belladonna's Gift

Oh, what a beautiful robe it is! I am sure you are right and that his mother must have made it for him. He is wrapped in his parents love when he wears it! Lynda

Author's reply

Thank you! Yes, that seemed so clear to me!

Anonymous · 22 November 2011 · Chapter 92: Belladonna's Gift

The same illness that had laid both Bungo and Belladonna low during the Fell Winter, the illness that had nearly claimed both of them when their son was still only a young tween, had permanently damaged their health, as it had many other hobbits of their generation—those that were spared at the time. This is a great explanation for their atypically early deaths. Some while back, I calculated the lifespans of all the hobbits on the family trees for whom there are both birth and death dates in Appendix C. I believe I omitted Frodo's parents, as theirs were not natural deaths. I remember the average age at death was exactly 100. The Old Took (and Bilbo, of course) were the only ones who lived longer than 106. The Old Took skewed the results a bit, but since there's no death date for Bilbo, I couldn't count him. Saradoc died unusually young -- I believe you and Larner both worked that into fics, and at least one fic involved an accident; it would be interesting to know what JRRT had in mind. I may also have looked to see who died at the time of the Fell Winter, but I don't remember what I found.

GamgeeFest · 21 November 2011 · Chapter 92: Belladonna's Gift

What a wonderful gift Belladonna gave her son. I love this idea and the explanation for his patchwork robe from the movie stills.

Author's reply

Thanks! When I saw that picture, it seemed obvious that his mother must have made it for him! I'm glad that you like the idea!

shirebound · 21 November 2011 · Chapter 92: Belladonna's Gift

enfolding him in their warmth and love long after they were gone This story is so full of love. I'll remember it when we see Bilbo's dressing gown in the film. *hugs you*

Author's reply

Thank you! I know it is a bit sad, but I am glad you were able to enjoy the love in the story anyway. ((hugs back))

Grey Wonderer · 21 November 2011 · Chapter 92: Belladonna's Gift

I adore this. That is a lovely idea. I liked the photos of Bilbo from the film the minute I saw them and this is a wonderful idea as to how he might have got his dressing gown. Bravo!

Author's reply

As soon as I laid eyes on that dressing gown I knew his mother must have made it for him!! I'm glad you like the idea too.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 19: Yule Among the Beornings

What a charming tale! My friend Rosemarie wrote a story featuring the grandson of Beorn and his family. I wonder what you'd think of the mischievous little boy...I can see him as one of the children gathered here! *grin* I do love Bilbo here, and I'm so glad he helped Beorn with the feast! Kaylee

Author's reply

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Perhaps you'll send me a link to your friend's story! I'm trying to collect up all of the stories set in The Hobbit *BEFORE* the new movie comes out!

harrowcat · 25 September 2011 · Chapter 90: A Moveable Feast

It is nearly lunch-time and my stomach is growling just reading this and smelling roast beef cooking! A much better idea than a pub-crawl. I am glad that I know that Clovis and Cado get their comeuppence, (I don't think that I have spelt that right,) even if it is quite a bit later!

Author's reply

Yes, well, I wouldn't be surprised if hobbits have *that* tradition as well in the towns that are large enough to have more than one or two inns or taverns. Maybe Michel Delving or Tuckborough; but this is certainly a more family-oriented occasion. So far as I know that's spelled right. Perhaps it has a hyphen, but a lot of words that *I* think ought to have hyphens, don't, according to my spell-checker! (And some that I think don't, should.)LOL! And yes, they've more or less chosen their path already...

harrowcat · 25 September 2011 · Chapter 91: A Form of 'Thanksgiving'

Lovely gifts for all and the story for us! I am sure the Gaffer will be gruff but soon forgive the faunt!

Author's reply

I think he'll grumble a bit, as he knows that's expected-- but his own little lad has recently had the tradition of faunthood, so I'm guessing he'll be quite understanding for the most part.

Antane · 23 September 2011 · Chapter 91: A Form of 'Thanksgiving'

What a sweet story! Frodo's gifts were very thoughtfully given. It is indeed a shame not to be able to have pictures of his face after eating those cakes. :) Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

I couldn't resist putting in that bit about pictures-- it's the sort of moment that nowadays would have the parent pulling out a camera! I have lots of that sort of pictures of my son and my nephews. It's the sort of thing that makes you look forward to the day of bringing out the picture and showing it to prospective girlfriends, LOL! (Or in the case of video, sticking it up on YouTube, *grin*)

Larner · 23 September 2011 · Chapter 90: A Moveable Feast

Ah, but a perfect form of feast for Hobbits of the Shire--and so delectable. Alas, however, that Clovis and Cado were starthing on such a road so early in their careers!

Author's reply

Yes, it seemed to me very hobbity. And the sort of thing that might have begun after such a dire and tragic time as the Fell Winter. This wasn't the first time they've bullied Pippin, and it won't be the last between now and "The Dare", but their road's been chosen early.

Larner · 23 September 2011 · Chapter 91: A Form of 'Thanksgiving'

Oh, very sweet as the faunt joins in the joy of life in the Shire. And of course he'd give Bilbo something, even if he had to dig up the taters to find it! Heh!

Author's reply

Yep. He most certainly would!

shirebound · 23 September 2011 · Chapter 91: A Form of 'Thanksgiving'

A happy, hobbity story, my very favorite kind! I love the duckling on Frodo's plate, and how this is a family visit of such joy for all of them. Wee!Frodo... *happy sigh*

Author's reply

Somehow I thought you'd like this one! *grin* I think decorated plates for children must be a Shire tradition. I remembered that Merry's little plate was decorated with ponies, so I thought that Frodo would most definitely have had a special plate as well! I don't often write him quite that wee, but I have once or twice. It's fun to imagine him so little.

lovethosehobbits · 23 September 2011 · Chapter 91: A Form of 'Thanksgiving'

What a sweet tale..thanks for sharing it with us.

Author's reply

I'm glad you enjoyed it! It's fun to write wee!hobbits!
