Hi, Ainu Laire,
I just read all of your ficlets and thought them excellent. I enjoyed them very much.
My only comment is the fanon vs canon bit about Halbarad and cousins. By the very nature of relationships, he HAS to be a cousin, since he's not an uncle (or aunt!), nor parent, sibling or offspring of Aragorn. All that's left is cousins, of various degrees. You have him as a first cousin, which is certainly not beyond the realms of possibility, but he could be a 2nd/3rd/etc cousin - which still counts as both kinsman and cousin. Ask a hobbit . Most modern USA families don't count cousins beyond 1st cousins; my family knows 2nd/3rd, once removed, etc, even though we are not hobbits. So referring to Halbarad as a cousin is probably just as accurate as kinsman, and even canonical.
That said, your stories are very good & I wouldn't worry about conflating cousins with kinsmen.
Thanks for writing & keep it up.

Ah, thank you, Rick!
Who is to say Halbarad is not an uncle? Gilraen could have had brothers :) I don't believe canon ever stated she was an only child. He could even be a great-uncle through being a brother of Ivorwen or Dirhael! XD Though, I do agree, the most likely explanation is cousin, but since there is nothing written in stone except for kinsman, I figure it's best to play it safe.
Thank you, though, for your input! It is interesting to think about (and I think of my own cousins' kids as 'cousins' too, not 'cousins once removed', hehe).

Aw, how much do I love seeing Glorfindel taking care of a weary and worried Aragorn! Excellent and very plausible gapfiller... I hope you keep at the prompts. :)

I'll certainly work on some from time to time, in between my other writing projects. Thanks for the review ^^

"Not yet deep!" the elf reassured the man. "Not yet deep, for you still realize its deadly power."
That's the perfect response, and a very nice scene.
It's great to see a ficlet from you!

Thanks, shirebound!
I'm glad to finally have the muses working again! They've been incredibly active these past six or so months, so I thought I should produce something while I'm working on my novel-length story on the side.

Oh, yes--exhaustion and stress It could and would work with, not to mention long-held frustration.
Excellent!

Yea, It was a most cruel and unusally manipulative piece of jewellery. I imagine it affected all of the Fellowship somehow before it was taken away.

A momul is a rather large gift, one that can not just be put in the staples. But it is a gift that Aragorn will remember.

Ah, the decision made. There is grief here, and a feeling of inevitability.

Lairë, I really liked the way you portrayed Gilraen's quiet determination to keep Aragorn safe. Well done.

If this is the way you make Elessar's life difficult, I'm all for it. What a deliciously amusing vignette. It's no wonder he didn't like the sound of it at all. Maybe, he might find a way to gift the momul to Elladan and Elrohir.

Hee hee hee! Sam will be MOST jealous, I suspect! An oliphaunt for the King of Gondor! And white elephants in Thailand were gifts given by the King of Siam to those he wished to ruin financially. I wonder if the same is true of Mumakil from Harad? Heh!
I liked the first one, and I liked this one even better. Your second shot at it is much improved. A very thoughtful conversation in which you can feel Aragorn and Gandalf's intimacy.
What an enchanting glimpse of Aragorn's childhood. In a few words you've shown us Gilraen's strenght and sadness, and Elladan and Elrohir's thoughtfulness and care for little Estel. I found the image of Aragorn trotting by Elladan's side very sweet and delightful.
What a delightful vignette. A party planned by willy Arwen, Elladan and Elrohir should be an unforgetable one, and Aragorn so deserves it. I wish we could have a glimpse of it.
“'You are, nonetheless, the king of a rather large kingdom.'
'Yes, but that is no reason to make my one hundredth year stand out so greatly!'" Politics, Aragorn, politics.
Elladan and Elrohir helped plan this?! Oh, dear. This ought to be good. *grins evilly*
Wonderful fic and I would love to see this written!

· Chapter 62: Celebration: Preparation (A.+ Arwen + Faramir + Legolas)
This is delightful! You got me to thinking about just what a year is worth. One tenth of a child's life, one one hundredth of Aragorn's life at that moment. Arwen and Legolas at that time had lived several centuries. Yet they both had only a little over one century with their mortal friends before Aragorn's death. Arwen's story always reminds me to "use well the days", to value each moment and the people in them, and never take a future for granted.
