Excellent details. Now, to get out of the Troll's country. Good idea to consult with the trees, I think.
And where ARE those horses? They must be somewhere about! Time for the horses to allow them to become the cavalry riding to escape! Heh!
Author's reply
Thank you. I think the trees can be a big help in our guys' current situation.
I agree. Those horses have got be to around there somewhere, and they need to find Legolas and Aragorn, since L & A can't seem to find them.

Author's reply
Welcome back. Good for you, because being in my head when I write can be a very scary place to be. :o)
Wwll I'm afraid you will have to wait. I know you understand. :o)
Uh, I'm not sure what you mean by your question. You said house. Did you mean horse? If so, no, not troll food. If you did mean house, sorry, I don't understand.

I think your plot bunny must have gone into hibernation - that's another chapter with no cliffhanger!
I think the dilemma Aragorn faces is very true to character - he wants to do everything possible to help Legolas and ignore his own discomfort. But Elrond is right - if he doesn't look after himself he'll be in no state to help Legolas. I'm glad he remembers that advice.
I had a quick skim through the earlier chapters to refresh my memory on previous happenings. There is a curious reference to a burn scar on Legolas' leg that he refuses to explain to Aragorn. Is that a reference to a previous story of yours? I'd hate to think I was missing out on any tales of Legolas Angst :-)
Author's reply
That's two in a row. Amazing, isn't it? :o)
It has to be frustrating for our dear ranger. He knows that he can only do one thing first, but also knows that there are two things that need doing at the same time. Being a healer isn't easy.
It's funny, because the reference to that scar is not from a previous story but from a future one, though not necessarily the next one. Naturally, I have to do things backwards. :o)

At last a break all be it a brief one. They need some quality down time and a chance to regroup their strength. I think for once Legolas' will need the most healing time. I can hear Elrond now, "You went where?!" Time for some of Elrond's infamous tea. Legolas likely wouldn't even complain.
Keep the story coming and have a great Thanksgiving.
Author's reply
Yes, a break that both L & A need very much. If trouble will just stay away for a while, maybe they can get some of that strength back. I had to laugh, because that is exactly what I think Elrond would say, and of course, he would brew up some of his Special Tea. No, I don't think Legolas would complain at all. :o)
I'll keep it coming. Happy Thanksgiving to you, too.

That chapter set the pulse racing! It was a thrilling moment when Legolas killed Scron and truly shocking when he turned on Aragorn. He must be just about on his last legs now. If they have to run for it I don't know how he's going to manage. Isn't it time their horses showed up?
Author's reply
It makes me smile when I can evoke strong emotions in my readers. I didn't think anyone would see either of Legolas's attacks coming, especially the one against Aragorn. Our dear elf is on his last legs, so I'm sure he wouldn''t get far, if he had to run for it.
I agree! Where are those horses?

I don't think I've commented before - but I wanted to take this moment to tell you I've been enjoying your tale. And I truly hope that the two of them are now very close to being free - I hope!

I'm always happy to welcome a new reviewer. I'm also happy you are enjoying the story. I think L & A would agree with you about being free. We'll see if they can finally manage it.

You do keep cranking up the angst and the pace don't you! I hope the orc blood that must have been on that blade doesn't poison the wound that Legolas has just made onAragorn.
Author's reply
Yeah, I have a bad habit of doing that. As far as I know, troll blood isn't poisonous, so we can assume that Aragorn is safe from that problem, at least. :o)

Good to see Scron dead and no longer a threat; but now to find their horses and GET OUT OF THERE! I'm with Aragorn--enough is ENOUGH, already, and Legolas truly needs a chance to relax and heal properly without being interrupted every hour or so by more of the Enemy's constructs! Gads!
Author's reply
Yeah, another troll leader bites the dust. That would seem to be the next order of busness. They just have to get it done, but they always seem to find the hard way of doing things. You've summed up Legolas's needs rather nicely. Let's hope it won't be long before he gets it.

Way to go Legolas. I think Legolas will have no memory of this berserker rage as he has a nasty head injury and will eventually collapse. Elrond you are needed. I hope the shouting is actually help coming and not more trolls. They could use a real break. Good, Scron is dead. Now to leave the rest of the trolls in the dust. Neither of our boys are thinking straight right now. So hopefully they misjudged the noise. Update soon. By the way, how many chapters will this be? Thanks for the fairly quick update.
Author's reply
Legolas can be surprising sometimes, even though we all know what he's capable of doing. I'm afraid he is suffering right now. Too bad Elrond isn't around. The shouting isn't help coming. Sorry. L & A could definitely use a break, so maybe they will get away.
I will update as soon as I can. I'm not sure how many chapters this story will have. I know where it's going, but I haven't finished writing it yet. I can tell you it won't be too much longer.

Very, very nice. Sometimes, when stories go over twenty chapters it feels like the author is dragging things out for the sake of a long story, but not here. Good work- nice descriptions, dialogue, all that.
Author's reply
Thank you. I never try to drag out stories, and I'm glad you think I haven't done that here.. If anything, I try to keep them from getting out of control. :o) I'm very happy that you like the various elements of the story.

NO! Not the troll again. These guys just can't catch a break. Kill that troll get rid of him once and for all. Then lets see Aragorn's healing strength come into play and get Legolas back to health. Maybe Legolas can find a helpful tree or two.
Update soon. Please?
Author's reply
Their luck does seem to run on the down side, doesn't it? That's a solution that both of them would dearly love. We'll see how close it comes to happening. :o) I hope to update next week.

Oh no! After showing all that concern towards Legolas, Aragorn goes and hurts the elf even more. I winced when I read that!
I'm going to cling to the hope that the person speaking to them as they leave the shelter is one of the twins come to rescue them, however unlikely it is that they would refer to their foster brother and friend as scum!
Author's reply
Yeah, you know how bad Aragorn must feel about what happened when he fell. Hurting Legolas was the very last thing he wanted to do. After all, he did curse himself in three languages for being ten kinds of a fool. :o)
Even though I wouldn't put it past either twin to call L & A scum as a joke, I don't think they would do that in this situation. So, you can pretty much guess it isn't E2.

Sure. It was rather stupid of me not to do so to begin with. I first noticed a problem when they were in the tree and you mention Aragorn had to "suck it up". The others are also modernized terms, such as "whatever". And nice update!
Author's reply
I see what you mean. I do sometimes tend to use terms that are a bit modernistic, though I am careful not to use those that are way off base. For example, I would never have Aragorn say, "My bad" or even refer, in the narrative, to emotions going up and down "like a roller coaster" (I've actually seen that in an LOTR story!). I consider mine more on the fringe of acceptability. After all, Tolkien had Elrond use the term "nick of time" at the Council of Elrond, so I figure I have a little leeway, though I'll try to be even more careful.
Glad you liked the chapter.

It is time for Aragorn to ask that question. At least the trolls have given up on where they're holed up. Now to find out how to get out of there, once they're reasonably sure they're safe.
Author's reply
Yeah, and you know Legolas dreads hearing it. :o) The trolls are gone for the moment, which gives L & A a bit of a breather. I think finding a way to get out and actually doing it may prove to be two very different things.

I felt quite tense as the trolls started moving rocks around to look for their escapees. And what a horrifying image: a trolls hairy legs at the entrance of the cave. Not a pretty sight!
What a nightmare for Legolas, though. Not only is he trapped in a cave with no immediate means of escape, but Aragorn wants to discuss his injuries. There's nowhere to run!
Author's reply
I like to keep the suspense going, so being tense it good. Seeing that troll's leg was not only not a pretty sight, but thinking about what it was attached to had to be scary.
The position Legolas finds himself in is not a happy one for him: Caught between being trapped in a stone, cave-like structure on the one hand and a determined and worried Aragorn on the other. Poor elf.

· Chapter 20
Oh, dear, let's see, one does not want to ask the other about his injuries for fear of getting him to dwell on them and feel worse. The other wonders why his friend isn't fussing over him, but does not want to say anything and start the fussing. One may be an elf and one a human, but they ate both definitely males. I would say they know each other quite well by now. So far, the forces of nature have helped protect them. Unfortunately, "nature" contains rocks and cave as well as trees. The trolls are getting TOO close now. Will our boys have the patience to wait out the trolls? Will it be safe to stay under those rocks much longer? You sure do now where to leave a story!
Author's reply
I love the way you put that. And the topper was to say that they were both definitely males. It made me laugh. Isn't that so true?
Nature can be both a friend and an enemy. So far, it's been both for L & A. Those are good questions. They will be answered as time goes by, which may not be the answer you wanted, but as you said, I know where to leave a story. :o)

Yes, Legolas, Aragorn will find out all your injuries. Think of it this way at least you won't be feeling all your pains for a while. You will be too busy fending off Aragorn.
Poor Legolas, injured, shell shocked due to lightning, headache, and now claustrophobia. Oh, and Aragorn is going to start annoying him as he tries to treat all the above injuries. Besides not registering the pain he won't notice the claustrophobia as he will be to busy dealing with a worried Aragorn.
Keep the story coming. Hopefully real life won't interfere to much.
Author's reply
Oh my. You do know those two very well. Legolas might as well give in, because, as you say, he'll definitely be dealing with a worried Aragorn. I think the only way he can get his mind off of the tight, dark, cave-like shelter is to close his eyes and pretend he and Aragorn are in the woods. Hey, maybe the ranger will suggest that very thing. :o)
I'll keep the story coming and hope RL doesn't get in the way too much.

Oh dear - sometimes there are disadvantages to possessing superior senses. Poor Elf (for about the 1000th time!)
While the cave is giving them a chance for a breather, I do worry that with only one exit our heroes might end up hopelessly trapped. Unless your evil plot bunny got zapped by the lightning strike?
Author's reply
Yes, it's strange that one of Legolas's senses that is normally an advantage, in this case, was a distinct disadvantage. Poor elf indeed.
The fact there's no rear exit to the shelter is definitely a scary thought. I can tell you that the plot bunny is alive and well and as evil as ever, so draw your own conclusions. :o)

With luck, Aragorn would be too preoccupied thinking about the trolls and the rain dripping on his head to notice.
I would say that with luck he will notice although Legolas obviously does not agree. Oh well,,, one more troll down. They have to run out eventually! *g*

Thank the Valar, indeed! The Valar, and the quick thinking of a friend who got them up out of the river water in time! A brief rest, but what happens next? You are very good at keeping us hanging! I do believe you have done your homework. The descriptions of the effects of the lightning and rain ring true.
Author's reply
Yes, the Valar are definitely to be thanked. And thanks to Legolas’s quick thinking, we don’t have a fried ranger on our hands, or an elf either for that matter.
I do like to leave people wondering what will happen next. It’s fun! :o)

Aha! Finally a sort-of shelter and hopefully a bit of peace for a time. Now, Scron, it may be time for you, too, to be replaced. Which one will do it, I wonder? When he's gone maybe these two will be able to move on, although I must say the troop of Trolls is already significantly diminished through the constant change of leaders! Heh!
Author's reply
We can only hope that the shelter will provide some peace, but with those two you never know.
Even if Scron goes, we know that another will take his place, so I don’t think a new leader will be any easier on our guys. They do have one less troll right now, thanks to the lightning.
