Larner · 25 June 2007 · Chapter 4: Leaving Home, part 1 Sam

Oh, I can so easily see this happening between Sam and his father. And the Gaffer's got it right--when you don't hear all you don't know all. And I bless both him and his oh, so responsible youngest son.

Author's reply

I think that sometimes we only hear a tiny part of things and get the wrong idea even as adults. With hobbits being so curious in general (even the non-Took hobbits) I think this sort of thing must have happened quite often don't you? Besides children just don't understand adult conversations and venting. LOL Thank you for reading and reviewing!

harrowcat · 25 June 2007 · Chapter 4: Leaving Home, part 1 Sam

I don't think that you could ever manage to write too much for us GW! We love every word you offer, especially this!

Author's reply

Awww, thank you. That is so sweet of you. I have three more of these, one for each of the other hobbits so you might change your mind when you finished. LOL Thank you for reading and for this lovely review!

GamgeeFest · 24 June 2007 · Chapter 4: Leaving Home, part 1 Sam

Awwww! What a lovely little scene. So typical of a kid to think he's the source of the problem, and I love that your Gaffer is so patient and explained things so that Sam could figure it out on his own. Marigold was a sweetie, and just a typical sister and girl! You're getting much better at writing Sam too! I could just see him doing something like this, and his observation that he needs to work better at how to talk to girls, without anyone telling him he needs to. Very well done, GW!

Author's reply

I am so relieved that you enjoyed Sam in this one. It always makes me feel better when I write Sam if you like it. I consider you to be my 'Sam' expert you know. This idea just came to me and Sam's part of it all came to me first. I have one for each hobbit but for some reason this one stood out and I had to write it. Thank you for the lovely review!

shirebound · 24 June 2007 · Chapter 4: Leaving Home, part 1 Sam

"But there’s too many of us,” Sam said his voice shaking with emotion. “Why your mum and me would’a had a whole bunch more ‘o you little rascals if we’d thought to do it sooner. As it is some days there just aren’t enough ‘o you.” He chuckled and ruffled Sam’s hair. This is absolutely lovely, GW. What a practical, loving, wonderful family you've shown us.

Author's reply

Thank you. I don't often write Sam but for some odd reason he keeps turning up lately. Tomorrow night I will post Frodo's chapter. I have them all four written because they insisted, but Sam's came to me first this time. I'm very glad you enjoyed it.

White Gull · 28 February 2007 · Chapter 3: With A Kiss

Ah, very sweet indeed. Any Frodo's (of course) is my favorite. I wish, too, that he had found healing enough to remain in the Shire he loved, and found a lass who loved him. WG

Author's reply

So glad you enjoyed it. I wanted Frodo's to be memorable without naming the lass. I am guessing here but I do think he must have got the eye of more than a few young lasses before the RING became his and perhaps for a while afterward. Tolkien doesn't say so but I can't help but think that Frodo was considered quite a catch! I do wish he'd had more of a chance at happiness.

harrowcat · 22 February 2007 · Chapter 3: With A Kiss

phew, getting caught up again..... You will have to go 'mushy' on us a bit more often if this is the result GW. Lovely!

Author's reply

So glad you enjoyed it. I don't write much in the way of romance but this little kiss fic seemed like the perfect Valentine's plot bunny! Thank you for reviewing!

Bodkin · 20 February 2007 · Chapter 3: With A Kiss

Ah! Happy moments - the sort that are treasured up over long lives together. (Well. Except for Frodo's.)

Author's reply

Because Frodo didn't have that special someone later it was very difficult to write his portion of this. It is also why I left the lass in question un-named. Thank you for the review! I certainly wish that Tolkien had seen fit to give Frodo healing.

GamgeeFest · 17 February 2007 · Chapter 3: With A Kiss

Awww! Those were all so sweet! I loved them to bits and it was fun seeing our lads from the lasses' POVs. But who was that lass with Frodo?

Author's reply

I don't know. hehehe I actually wrote it to be an unknown lass figuring that when Frodo was younger, before the RING he might have been much sought-after and that more than a few young lasses were interested in kissing him. Since I knew and everyone else reading would know that it couldn't actually go much further than a kiss or two and maybe a few strolls in the moonlight I decided not to name her, just to write what she was feeling. Thanks for reading. I just finished reading your latest chapter EYAWTKAH and loved it! Keep them coming!

Periantari · 16 February 2007 · Chapter 3: With A Kiss

I melted and grinned at each one of them. How sweet! I really liked the first one with Estella-- dunno why that one made me melt the most since it's so funny that Merry pushed Estella up to a tree! lol Happy (belated) V-day to you too, GW~ :hugs: =)

Author's reply

You melted? Really? I wrote something romantic and it worked. hehehe Glad you enjoyed them. I think Merry and Estella are my favorite in this too. But then again, I did enjoy letting Frodo have a kiss. Hugs to you too!

Althea · 15 February 2007 · Chapter 3: With A Kiss

These are wonderful. I particularly enjoyed the one featuring Sam, Rosie, and Frodo. I like the idea of Rosie and Frodo working together.

Author's reply

That one was very movie-based. The scene from Fellowship put that into my head. I'm glad you liked it! I like to think that Frodo and Rose did have a friendship. It would have made it all easier when the three of them lived together at Bag End later. Thanks for reviewing!

Anonymous · 15 February 2007 · Chapter 3: With A Kiss

Excellent stories as always. I don't think I've reviewed your tales before but I love then. The characterisations are spot on. If I have one tiny criticism it is that Sam's eyes are brown not green (Tolkien mentions it in Balin's tomb). Looking forward to many more great stories! Blossom

Author's reply

Thank you! I appreciate the review and I am glad you enjoyed this. As to Sam's eyes, I get all caught up in Movie-land at times and while discribing Sam I was seeing Sean Astin whose eyes are green. LOL That scene where Sam and Rosie dance at the party was on my mind while I was writing because I love the look on Sean's face when he is first pushed into Rosie's arms, such a mixture of embarrassment and pleasure! Thank you for reading!

Larner · 14 February 2007 · Chapter 3: With A Kiss

Hooray! They each had a chance to kiss and mean it--too bad Frodo couldn't follow up on his, though.

Author's reply

It is a shame that Frodo didn't have that sort of romance later on in his life. I did enjoy giving him a moment or two pre-Ring though. Thanks for reviewing!

PIppinfan1988 · 14 February 2007 · Chapter 2: Getting Left

These are just beautiful, G.W.! I loved each and every tale about being left behind. I have an older sister, so I can empathise with these wee ones from my days of childhood. I do have to say that I really liked Pippin's tale; he *is* too smart for his own -good, isn't he? :-) PF

Author's reply

I was the older sister so I guess I'd be Frodo or Merry in these. I am very glad that you enjoyed them. Pip is too smart for his own good. I am very certain that is at least half of how he gets his way so very often. hehehe

PIppinfan1988 · 14 February 2007 · Chapter 0: The Disclaimer!

Talk about knowing exhuastion from work first-hand, lol! I've gone and reviewed your prologue twice! Now I feel bad for threatening you with a wet noodle, but I don't regret the rest of it. I'm sure you could use a word of encouragement, regardless of my swiss-cheese memory. :-) PF

Author's reply

Hey, I just thought you loved my prologue! LOL Seriously I have NEVER received three reviews for the same prologue. I feel honored. I may quit writing actual stories and just start posting prologues! hehehe

PIppinfan1988 · 14 February 2007 · Chapter 0: The Disclaimer!

...borrowing them because I have no real original characters or imagination of my own. Remember these words, my friend, because when we have our next mini-moot somewhere between North Royalton and Huntington, I'm going to smack your hand with a wet noodle for them! What do you call Errol?? Or Mister Tunnely - or the wonderful Diamond that I know you've written? What about Pippin building his own house, eh? What about that little puzzle box that used to travel from story to story? I remember those sorts of things and you've written a million original thoughts from your very talented (and very wild!) imgaination, so don't EVER say (or write that) you have no real original characters or imagination! Your brilliant stories have always put a smile on my face, or made me laugh til I cried...or got all misty-eyed over that old, tattered furry stuffed rabbit I fell in love with from his first "words". I know first-hand how work can make one exhuasted and believe things that aren't necessarily true about one's self. Those words above in italics NOT true, so don't believe them. On to the first chapter! PF

Author's reply

Ouch! I'm getting smacked? You know, I was thinking about those puzzle boxes the other day and wondering how to work them into another story. I've missed them really. Thank you for the encouraging words, dear friend. Errol is also grateful. He loves it when he is mentioned by name in a review. You are so sweet to care so much and I thank you!

elanor winterflowers · 14 February 2007 · Chapter 3: With A Kiss

How wonderfully romantic! Each one is perfect to the fellow and the occasion. I wonder what happened to the girl who hoped Frodo Baggins was The One?

Author's reply

Thank you! Romance is not my usual area but I was feeling a bit romantic thanks to the holiday. As to Frodo's admirer, I don't really know. In fact, I wonder too now that I've written her and allowed her a POV. I am certain that he had many such lasses thinking he was The One when he was young. Dear, dear, Frodo.

Cuthalion · 14 February 2007 · Chapter 3: With A Kiss

Absolutely beautiful - intimate, humorous and delightful. Well done! *smiles* Cúthalion

Author's reply

Thank you! I don't write much romance and most of the time there is far more humor in there than romance when I do! I am very glad you enjoyed it! Happy Valentine's Day!

shirebound · 14 February 2007 · Chapter 3: With A Kiss

He looked down at her as if she were a treasure unearthed and presented only to him. *sigh* These are all lovely. What a wonderful Valentine's Day ficlet! :D

Author's reply

Thank you! I don't get mushy often but today seemed a good day for it all things considered. Happy Valentine's Day!

AspenJules · 14 February 2007 · Chapter 3: With A Kiss

Oh........ this was WONDERFUL! I loved them all, but I especially loved the first one. You got the description perfect... how you feel when the one you love starts to notice you, *really* notice you that way, for the first time. It gave me chills and warm shivers to read it. I also loved the "thank you for my heart" sentiment in the Pippin and Diamond one. Sam and Rosie were... well, they were delightfully lovable as only Sam and Rosie can be. I'm just confused... who was the girl with Frodo, or was that just some mystery girl that we know he must have had before the ring took all that away? Anyway... thanks for the yummy Valentine's Day treat!

Author's reply

Wow! Thank you so much! I am very pleased that you liked them. Merry and Estella were the first that came to mind when I was writing this so I am glad to know that you could feel what I was going for there. I figured that Sam would be the type to go slow romance-wise and since Diamond and Pippin's kiss was a wedding kiss I wanted it to be extra special. So to the lass with Frodo, well, I decided to let her go un-named. I am certian that Frodo had quite a few lasses chasing him when he was young and so I decided that this lass would be one of many and not nearly so special to him as he was to her. Happy Valentine's Day and thank you for the lovely review!

Dreamflower · 14 February 2007 · Chapter 3: With A Kiss

Ah, GW, these are beautiful! I love them all! I especially like that you do not identify Frodo's admirer--really a good way to go about that! I had wondered how you would manage with Frodo! Delightfully romantic, all of them!

Author's reply

So glad you enjoyed them. I was in a very good mood today. hehehe A day off work always does that to me. I started to give the lass with Frodo a name but then I decided not to. I suspect that Frodo had his share of admirers when he was young and I thought it would be more interesting if she appeared to be far more smitten than he was and even if it was her POV, unknown to all of us. Happy Valentine's Day!

Pearl Took · 14 February 2007 · Chapter 3: With A Kiss

Lovely! Sweet! Delightful! Ahhhhh! Thank you, GW :-)

Author's reply

You are most welcome. Oh, and Happy Anniversary!

Bodkin · 12 February 2007 · Chapter 2: Getting Left

Oh - they are all so sweet. And each of them showing his own nature in the way he responds to being left behind. Sam so protective - Merry defiant and huffy - Frodo distracted by the joys of literature and Pippin irrepressible. And surprisingly understanding. And I love the way Frodo reminds Merry of his earlier words.

Author's reply

I believe that Merry found out that what you say can come back to haunt you. LOL I'm glad you enjoyed this and thank you for the lovely review.

Pearl Took · 11 February 2007 · Chapter 2: Getting Left

These are so sweet! I love that you had Pip knowing what was going on :-) It's hard to always be the one left behind and you caught that beautifully. MEWD, GW!

Author's reply

Thank you! I suspect that Pippin knew because as the youngest, he'd had the most practice at being 'too young to come along.' Besides, he had to have learned a thing or two from all of those older sisters and cousins. hehehe I did this one because I think all of the others must have gone through this too. Pippin, most of all, but each of them in turn had to want to go with someone older and been refused. I enjoyed letting Frodo have a turn at being 'youngest' in this one, but for once, I think Sam was my favorite to write!

elanor winterflowers · 11 February 2007 · Chapter 2: Getting Left

Oh, I liked these! I especially liked meeting Sam's older brothers and finding out how nice they were, and of course Pippin's buttons were the GW signature: perfectly adorable! You have a magic touch when it comes to kids--just wonderful!

Author's reply

Thank you! I can't imagine Sam not having nice older brothers since Sam is such a sweet-natured hobbit. You do have to write Sam very young in order to get them into the picture though. With all of his rushing about to keep up, I can imagine Pippin not taking time for buttons. He must have been one of those little ones that always turns up needing to be 're-dressed' before you can leave with him. And I suspect that all of those older sisters straightened and button him so often that he didn't worry about it much. LOL Thank you for the review and I am glad that you enjoyed it!

Andrea · 11 February 2007 · Chapter 2: Getting Left

“I seem to recall a time when you told me that if someone younger than you wanted to come along with you, that you’d bring them. You said you wouldn’t be like me and leave them behind,” Frodo smiled. LOL!!! Somehow I knew that this would happen! But instead of leaving Merry alone with his problem, Frodo helps him out. That's our Frodo! Wonderful!

Author's reply

I could just hearing Merry arguing his case to Frodo and then later regretting his words. I'm glad you enjoyed that part. I thought it was a fun way to connect the two chapters. I imagine Frodo was tempted to leave Merry to his mess but decided to help out after remembering his own troubles with getting time alone when Merry was small. Thank you for reviewing!
