· Chapter 91: Celeborn's Thoughts
He heard laughter, like mithril bells ringing in the clear air of mountain snowfields, and his eyes were drawn to his granddaughter.
Wonderfully said! Beauty and happiness, but only for a moment that cannot last forever!
Thank you :-)
Author's reply
Yes, our beauty and happiness is ephemeral compared to that known to the Elves, but at least we do not usually have reason to mourn for almost all we once knew as do the Elves. Thanks so, Andrea!

Oh MY Larner! This is beautiful! A tranquil and lovely scene... not to mention that it got me emotional. Beautiful!
Author's reply
Am so glad you find it that way! I love knowing you find it tranquil. Thank you so very much!

A nice little piece, Larner. Celeborn is so rarely written about, it's good to see him here. I can imagine him being part of but also apart from this family, his feelings towards his granddaughter's children ambivalent, not wanting to be too involved yet recognizing that this is his one last chance to pass down his own wisdom and knowledge to the 'next generation' before he, too, sails. I'm glad he decides not to stand aside but to become a part of the family more fully.
Author's reply
I do enjoy writing Celeborn, although I've had little enough chance to do so. And this is the last chance to influence those who will influence the future, I'm certain! Thanks so, Fiondil.

Somehow I overlooked this one. Delightful! "Shedding their rinds"--LOLOL! Loving the ents' pov.

Am so glad it touches you so. Yes, the Ents would see things differently from us, and I am glad it is so! Thanks so, Armariel.

A lovely piece; I always enjoyed that bit about the giants and their thunder-games. I liked how you brought out Bilbo's sense of fun.
Author's reply
Am so glad you do, Raksha. That has stayed with me over the years since I first read The Hobbit; it was fun to find a good way to work it into a tale! And Bilbo still has not only a sense of adventure, but of fun as well! Thanks so.

What a lovely idea! Bilbo is far braver than I would be!
Author's reply
Braver, or merely with a good sense of imagination and enjoyment? Although his native Hobbit caution appears to be working well. Heh! Thanks so, Linda!

A neat little story! Sounds like fun. I liked that similar part in The Hobbit and it was nice to remember it from here. Le hannon. :)
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
I, too, always loved that portion of The Hobbit--obviously! Thanks so very much. I'm grateful that Nath's prompt to write a fluffy story about creatures not usually thought of in terms of fluff allowed me to write about the giants.

Bilbo got to see so many wonders! :)
Author's reply
That he did! I've ALWAYS loved the hints given us about the Mountain Giants in The Hobbit! And Nath's request for "unexpected fluff" was such a perfect inspiration for this one!
Thanks so, Shirebound.

Hello Larner,
ohmigosh, that is too sweet! Bregolad adopting Merry & Pippin - I want to squeal with the hobbitty goodness of it!
I love this collection of fics. There's something for everyone. Very Forest Gump!! :)
M :o)
Author's reply
Am so glad you enjoyed this one, M. I, too, enjoyed imagining Quickbeam's reaction to the Hobbit's activities and joy in life. Dwim wanted a story that reflected something about adoption, although it didn't have to focus on adoption of a child, so this was what came out. Although I wasn't the only one that found the idea of Hobbits and Ents finding family feeling for one another possible, I learned. Aruthir's half-drabble in the HASA birthday list is delightful.
And I do try to write all kinds of stories. Thanks so!

LOL!
Thanks for a nice nightcap.

Always glad to evoke a giggle, Lindelea! Love to the girls, Zoe, and the hubby! Hope to be able to get away for a few days next month, but am still uncertain what the new bosses' leave schedule is like for us!

This is such a sweet tale. I would have commented when I first read this on HA this morning, but I can tell you how much I enjoyed this drabble just as well on this venue. It has your usual fine-tuned crafting and turn of word, along with the never-wavering optimistic viewpoint that shines through all of your work. Thanks for sharing this with all of us.

Adored this one Larner. So Merry and Pippin have found a brother-of-the-heart too have they! *grin* And I loved the comment about shedding their rinds!
Author's reply
I think that the Hobbits found a great deal to admire in Quickbeam. And how is an Ent to interpret a mortal shedding its clothes? I am glad we got the challenge to write about adoptions of sorts from Dwim, actually!

hole-dwellers-who-are-ever-hungry? *snicker* Now that's an apt description of our dear Hobbits!
Oh, I can see how the Hobbits, who are so connected to nature, might feel familiar to an Ent. It's such a difference to most men, for example. Nice touch of Bregolad to want to adopt them. I'm sure he would love Sam as well!
Author's reply
We know that for Ents names are an ongoing description of the thing named, so I thought that for old Skinbark this would be a likely way of speaking of their small visitors. And Sam, I think, would be greatly honored by the Ents! An Entish Hobbit if there ever was one!
Thanks so very much, Kitty--and am glad you found so much to enjoy yesterday!

This is adorable, and makes me smile. It's wonderful to see our young hobbits through the ancient but appreciative eyes and spirit of this Ent.

Dwim wanted a story about adoption, but not necessarily of the adoption of children. Who better to write about, then? Heh!
Thanks so, Shirebound!

· Chapter 88: Envy
Well, he could have bothered to try and do something constructive together with the other Valar, instead of doing something so terribly destructive after the others had created such beauty. It's really sad how far people can go in their envy.
Author's reply
Melkor, COOPERATE with others? Perish the thought! Heh! But you are correct--envy can be so destructive an emotion! No wonder it's listed among the Seven Deadly Sins!

· Chapter 87: The Might of the Númenorian
The last line says it all, really. As sad as it is, the tale of Númenor is a pretty realistic picture of human nature, I fear. I'm always glad at least the Faithful escaped the destruction.

· Chapter 86: The New Queen's Bounty
These two children were so sweet, trying to help their mother. Such a pity it went awry. But coming to think of it, I guess it was inevitable, as Arwen's and Aragorn's stories clearly prove. Anyway, I was glad Arwen heard them and acted; another war widow and her children who now have a better life!
Author's reply
I think we have all done similar things at one time or another. Helpful children are often more filled with good intentions than with the ability to be careful! The challenge was to write a story of Arwen's impact on her new city and its people, so am glad to think I portrayed that impact well! Thanks so very much, Kitty.

· Chapter 85: Admitting the Conspiracy
All things considered, Freddy did a good job in explaining Folco the reason for Frodo leaving without actually telling him anything. Of course, considering the innocence of the hobbits, it has to sound pretty strange for Folco.
Their worry if they managed the Old Forest without problems reminded me that it was over a year until they heard from the Travellers again. That must have been a very long year for them. You know, as much hardship as Frodo and the others had to endure, they at least knew what happened and hadn't to worry if they were alive. And while they were worried about the Shire, I suppose they had less reason to worry than the others in the Shire about them.
Agree wholeheartedly with Folco's thoughts at the end!
Thank you, that was lovely! (I know, I'm terribly late, but at last I got around to play catch-up here)
Author's reply
I do believe that Folco would be demanding to know just where Frodo's gone and why! Yes, the Travellers know they are all right, but those left at home must have worried terribly during that terrible year....
Now, to read the one I JUST posted today to see the rest of the story! Heh!

Lovely description of the creation of the Trees, Larner, and how each of the Valar had a hand in their making, whether directly or indirectly.
Author's reply
Oh, yes--consistently rotten! Once the Trees were growing, how each of the Valar must have delighted to sustain them and reflect their beauty, or so I'd think. Thanks so, Fiondil.

What a contrast!
On the one hand the creation of beauty by working together, each one supplying his or her own special gift.
On the other hand just one thought: destruction!
Envy indeed!
Author's reply
I so agree, Andrea--quite the contrast between seeking to augment the gift of the Trees and wanting but to set all at naught again. Yes, the heart of envy. Thanks so!
