Larner · 14 February 2008 · Chapter 89: A Ceremony Revised

It appears your Axantur and my Master of Protocol are related in nature, at least. And to know that it was a mortal who cried out the most hopeful of the cries tied to that battle makes it the more poignant.

Author's reply

I think such people are cloned, myself. *LOL* Yes, it is indeed poignant that the most hopeful of cries tied to that battle comes from a mortal doomed not to see that day dawn.

Larner · 14 February 2008 · Chapter 88: The Worth of Butterflies

Patience as well as absorbing the truth of his own worth he needs to learn. He will!

Author's reply

Sador is young yet in mamy ways so he has a way to go before he comes to full maturity, but with the Valar there to help him, I'm sure he'll do well.

Larner · 14 February 2008 · Chapter 87: The Servant-Prince's Oath

Mentor and student, teacher and learner--always a situation of teaching and learning.

Author's reply

Teaching and learning for both of them.

Larner · 14 February 2008 · Chapter 86: Losing a Bet, Gaining an Apprentice

And there is need for those who respect one another to do so from a sense of equality rather than subservience, and without false pride. Interesting to watch Ingwion learn humility in this manner. "He who would be the ruler of all must be as the servant of all."

Author's reply

The way in which Námo and the Maiar interact is a lesson not only in humility but in respect for others whatever their particular station in life, be it high or low or something in between. "He who would be the ruler of all must be as the servant of all." A pity our own rulers have yet to embrace this concept.

Larner · 14 February 2008 · Chapter 85: The Joy of Serving

More lessons learned. Poor Finderato--not only tripping and dropping his tray, but then pulling the entire table-coverings down on top of himself! And it is very painful to find oneself being awkward in such a situation!

Author's reply

But we've all been there, haven't we, and still managed to survive the embarrassment. Ingwion will, too.

Larner · 14 February 2008 · Chapter 84: Obedience is a Verb

Certainly giving heed is one skill many of us must learn to master. And he learns--somewhat slowly, apparently. And I see his is the heart--and stomach--of a Hobbit. I think that he would be one to appreciate Bilbo and Frodo when they reach Tol Eressea.

Author's reply

Slow to learn, perhaps, but learning nonetheless... and I'm sure Frodo and Sam would make him an honorary hobbit just because of his stomach. *grin*

Larner · 14 February 2008 · Chapter 83: On the Shore of an Endless Sea

Another dealing with grief.

Author's reply

Yes, and more than just grief.

Larner · 14 February 2008 · Chapter 82: Furtherance

Courage it took to stand up for Vorondil, but even more so discernment. And his abilities as King return, while Vorondil learns what must be learned.

Author's reply

The past events have brought the King out of Finrod more and more and he is reclaiming that part of himself. Vorondil doesn't realize it yet, but he couldn't be in better hands than the King of Nargothrond.

Larner · 14 February 2008 · Chapter 81: Judgment on a Minor Note

The children, Eruhini and Valar, each has some level of authority over the other, I see. Interesting.

Author's reply

Tolkien believed in an hierachical universe with rights and obligations that went in both directions, something that is part of the Catholic mindset, and easy enough for me to understand, being Catholic myself. *grin* We're seeing how such an hierarchy works here.

Larner · 14 February 2008 · Chapter 80: Once Again to Lórien

Interesting.

Author's reply

Indeed.

Larner · 14 February 2008 · Chapter 79: Return to the Ring of Doom

Judgements now officially made and rendered, and Glorfindel returns to his education.

Author's reply

And just what that education will ensue.... *grin*

Larner · 14 February 2008 · Chapter 78: Consequences

And more is learned to the benefit of all. Vorondil is learning just how young he is.

Author's reply

Indeed, he is the equivalent of an 18-year-old human and they may think they're grown up but we know better.

Larner · 14 February 2008 · Chapter 77: Trial's Ending

Ingoldo and his wife have MUCH to learn! May they now learn it.

Author's reply

Whether they do or not remains to be seen. Some people just aren't willing to learn anything from their past mistakes.

Larner · 14 February 2008 · Chapter 76: An Interlude Among Kings

An action taken in anger may come back to haunt one, but in this case it was the best that could be done. Finrod's father and uncle are truly coming to appreciate the younger Elf was indeed a king in his own right, and are seeing the different majesty he had to take on in his own day.

Author's reply

It is here that Arafinwë and Ingwë first see Finrod, not as their son or great-nephew, but as a king in his own right. Manwë including Finrod in the discussion cinches it in their minds.

Larner · 14 February 2008 · Chapter 75: A Surprising Turn of Events

Vorondil has as yet little understanding of what has been done for his sake, but I believe he will know by the end of the thirty years. And he may not have hit Glorfindel, but he certainly kicked him! Ah, Vorondil--what will they do to you? Heh! Your father's life for yours, and now your freedom for your father's life.

Author's reply

Vorondil has no clue yet what his actions have precipitated or the consequences therefrom, but he will and thirty years isn't all that long for an elf.

Larner · 13 February 2008 · Chapter 74: Trial's Beginning

Not exactly propitious for Vorondil. Tulkas himself was a witness, was he? And I don't think that I'd like being held in his embrace myself.

Author's reply

I'm sure Tulkas is not so bad once you get to know him. *grin* He's just a little forgetful of his own strength.

Larner · 13 February 2008 · Chapter 73: Reunion

That does rather put a monkeywrench into the works.

Author's reply

Aldundil's precipitous arrival does rather throw things off more so than any of them can guess at this time.

Larner · 13 February 2008 · Chapter 72: Return to Vanyamar

Ah--so he borrowed it, did he? Am glad that Bombadil, in his way, is represented in Aman by Manwe himself! Hee!

Author's reply

It was fun reading everyone's ideas of who this person might be, so I was glad that no one figured it out. I'm sure that when Glorfindel got to Middle-earth and met Bombadil and told him about it, that Maia found it highly amusing.

Larner · 13 February 2008 · Chapter 71: Formenos

Well, I blew that last one, unless their father was reborn and has become a hermit. As I said, it's been a time since I last read the Sil. Again a place of exile. Fitting.

Author's reply

Maybe you should re-read the Silmarillion for real this time. *grin* And Formenos will always be a place of exile I think. A pity it has to be used at all.

Larner · 13 February 2008 · Chapter 70: Hunter and Hunted

Ah, yes, Herne's hunt in well known enough. And now the quarry is found. To bad that they were allowed to use Glorfindel as badly as they did, I fear. But he is well enough where he is. Finarfin's father is his host?

Author's reply

I loved the tales of Herne the Hunter and the other "Hunt" tales from Welsh mythology and just couldn't resist putting in my own version of it here in Aman. *grin*. As to who Glorfindel's host is.... you'll find out soon enough. *lol*

Larner · 13 February 2008 · Chapter 69: Glorfindel on Taniquetil

The Valar know where he was brought, and by whom. They made certain he'd be rescued, and he will be the stronger in the end for what he's been through.

Author's reply

The Valar are more aware of what's going on than they let on and Glorfindel will be stronger in the end, though at the moment he's not feeling too strong. *grin*

Larner · 13 February 2008 · Chapter 68: The Hunt

Excellent decisions all the way around.

Author's reply

Yes. The Hunt is up and events are coming to a head.

Larner · 13 February 2008 · Chapter 67: Return to Tirion

Ah, but they shall soon learn the full truth of it all. Now, what is poor Glorfindel doing up there on that mountain all this time?

Author's reply

The truth will out, as they say. As for Glorfindel.... *grin*

Larner · 13 February 2008 · Chapter 66: ...and Counterattack

Warriors and Maiar to the rescue? Nicely done.

Author's reply

Sador is very important to a lot of people, including the Valar. There was no way they would allow him to come to harm.

Larner · 13 February 2008 · Chapter 65: Attack...

Weavers are involved? Most interesting. More bait?

Author's reply

And not just weavers.... but Sador is definitely bait, though in this instance the Valar have not had a hand in it.
