Thank you, dear!

You did a marvelous job on this. I couldn't help crying a little.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 25: The Year Has Turned (Sing Tarrilee)

I wonder if hobbit lads and lasses (those that Have Their Letters, anyway!) learn these carols out of a songbook? *Grin* I love your songs! *wonders if this one has a tune yet* Kaylee

Author's reply

In my head it does have its own tune, though I do not have it set down or recorded anywhere!

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 23: Yule at Great Smials

Haha...loved it from beginning to end, but the last little bit with Lalia was a hoot! Doesn't she realize it's HER fault Yule is always a dreary affair? Oh, and that toast to Lalia had me giggling! Heh! Kaylee

Author's reply

Of COURSE it's not HER fault! The very IDEA! *giggle* No, she hasn't a clue...

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 22: Good King Elessar: Epilogue, Shall Yourselves Find Blessing

And there's the answer to that question! Hurrah for Aragorn, the Good King Elessar indeed. =) Kaylee

Author's reply

Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah!

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 21: Good King Elessar: Part 5, Forth They Went Together

Well, I hope Mr. Appledore will accept the position! It's good that it all worked out for him the way it did! Kaylee

Author's reply

It is good that it did! But really, what else could you expect with such a King?

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 20: Good King Elessar, Part 4: Yonder Peasant, Who is He?

Appledore, Appledore...Is the surname canon or has he appeared in one of your other stories? (Or maybe I'm just remembering that I read this before, a while ago, and forgot about it, lol!) Who's knocking, I wonder? Kaylee

Author's reply

It's a canon surname, one of the Bree-names listed in the Prancing Pony chapter.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 19: Good King Elessar: Part 3, Through the Rude Wind's Wild Lament

The image of Rosie taking a broom to Strider is just too amusing, LOL! But I hope Frodo-lad hasn't caught his death of cold, or gotten frostbite! Eek! Now to see about that welcome...

Author's reply

I think I must've been influenced by Baggins Babe, and how her Rosie takes a dishcloth to all and sundry! But as you have seen, Frodo-lad is just fine.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 18: Good King Elessar: Part 2, A Good League Hence

Well now, that IS a fine idea! How generous our Good King Elessar is! =) And there's Frodo-lad, helping him pull it along. I wonder where this Man came from... Kaylee

Author's reply

Of course our Good King is good, after all! And he certainly chose a fine helper...

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 17: Good King Elessar: Part 1, Hither Page and Stand by Me

It's sad that Merry got hurt, although Pippin's hovering was both funny and expected. I love Frodo-lad, and my heart aches for him having to think of Uncle Strider as "The King" all the time now. Aragorn has an idea, does he...? Hmmm... Kaylee

Author's reply

It was sad for Merry to get hurt, although necessary as you now know! It was fun to get to know Frodo-lad at this age; he'll adjust to his new role soon enough.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 16: "Come Now, Good Hobbits..."

A lovely song! Does it have a tune? I'm going to look at the other ones now! Kaylee

Author's reply

In my head it sort of scans to "Come Ye Thankful People Come".

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 15: A New Tradition

Legolas and Gimli! What a wonderful surprise, Dreamflower!! And I like both the tradition of switching between the Hall and the Smials, and the new tradition of not being grumpy! Heh! Kaylee

Author's reply

I thought it might be something that would really cheer Merry up! And the not being grumpy seemed like a very reasonable new tradition to me!

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 14: This Time Next Year

The first three made me sad, though I knew their lads were, indeed, safe. The last one just made me laugh. I suppose Miss Dora would not Object to my feeling Amused at Lobelia's Expense? Kaylee

Author's reply

None of them, I expect, really had any time what would happen the next year! But as you said, at least they did end up safe and home before the next Yule. And Lobelia? She was way out of her reckoning!

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 13: The Long Wait Begins

At least Bilbo had Arwen to keep him company! Kaylee

Author's reply

Yes; I've always felt that those two became very good friends indeed during that time when they were so worried about their loved ones off on a dangerous mission!

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 12: Conspiracy Yule

What could go wrong, indeed? I like this moment between Sam and Merry! (Also, how does one toast cheese, without it melting everywhere? I'd understand a grilled cheese sandwich, but toasted cheese? *is intrigued*) Kaylee

Author's reply

They'd been conspiring since Frodo's 49th birthday, when Merry saw signs that made him think Frodo was getting ready to slip the leash...so of course they were conspiring still at Yule! For some reason in the UK, "toasted cheese" is what they call "cheese toast". And I suppose it makes sense, since when you make cheese toast the cheese is on top and gets toasted as well! (Also, as I learned on my trip to Scotland, they leave the "and" out of macaroni and cheese, and call it "macaroni cheese".)

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 11: Yule Morn in the Shire

Short and sweet, and very lovely! Kaylee

Author's reply

Thank you!

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 10: Sleigh Ride

*sighs* I got distracted from my reading! Oh well, back to filling up your inbox =) I like Sam and Rosie very much here, as well as Tom and Marigold. Do you have any family planned out for Tom and Marigold? Their children would be "double first cousins" to Sam and Rosie's brood! Kaylee

Author's reply

Yes, they would be double cousins, and I know that Marigold has a child only a few months younger than Elanor, though no one has yet told me if it was a lad or a lass. They have some other children too, I know, but again no details.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 9: The New Year Baby

Ah! So Pimpernel's married to a Goodbody, is she? And their daughter's name is Flora? *grin* You're having my family tree-making obsession rekindled, you know! I might have suggested "Ivy"! Kaylee

Author's reply

Yes. Their older daughter is Flora, then there's Alyssum who was born the spring before the Quest, and Pimpernel's twins Drogo and Primula were born the autumn of the year following the Quest. Her husband is Milo Goodbody. (Milo's mother Dianthus is also a cousin to Eglantine.) Pervinca married Tanto Hornblower during the Year of Troubles, and they had a son, Largo. She and Tanto had other children, but I haven't learned how many or what gender or their names yet. Pearl was married to Falco Boffin (NOT Folco, but a distant cousin of his) and was widowed during the Year of Troubles, though not from the Ruffians. He died suddenly of natural causes. They had no children. Pippin and Diamond managed to have their children in rapid succession. They have three daughters (Primrose and twins Pansy and Petunia) before they had Faramir. (And yes, on purpose. Diamond wanted to have her family as soon as possible.)

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 8: Yule at Brock Hall

Awww, that's lovely! Poor Freddy, though, waking up to find the covers stolen! LOL!

Author's reply

Thanks! I don't write about young Freddy and Estella often enough, I think.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 7: Light the Yule Log (the Tuckborough Carol)

Lovely! Have you got any particular tune in mind? Kaylee

Author's reply

Not really, although this one makes me thing of the Whovians carol in "How the Grinch Stole Christmas"; I don't think the tune fits exactly, but it's something like that...

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 6: The Snow-Hobbit

Frosty the Snow-Hobbit! I love it! I do love Tip and Tulip stories!! *grin* Kaylee

Author's reply

I love them too! And so do wee hobbits!

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 5: Seasonal Advice

My Dear Miss Dora, Once again you have Written a Letter full of Wonderful Advice - on how to Avoid one's more Disagreeable Relations! I am Quite Sure your Niece Daisy appreciated it, Even as I Did. I Do Hope there will be More such Advice in Your Book Soon!! Perhaps these Missives will Encourage your Scribe to Write More? Sincerely, Kaylee Arafinwiel

Author's reply

My Dear Miss Kaylee It is so nice to know Someone Appreciates My Useful Advice! I am afraid that Currently my Scribe is paying Far More Attention to certain Disreputable Relations of Mine! Just because they went off and had Adventures! Dreamflower says: Perhaps you have woken Miss Dora up! But I am sure she is much Too Polite to skip ahead of her place in the queue!

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 4: The Moon on the Breast of the New-Fallen Snow

Scary? What an odd name for a village - but it's canon, right? I just can't remember where it's named in the books... Eek, a warg!!! I'm so glad our Rangers got it!!! Kaylee

Author's reply

Yes, it's in the eastern part of the Northfarthing, and it was near there that Fatty Bolger and his Rebels had a base for a while. I'm glad they did too! But after all, that's what they were there for, to guard the Shire.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 26 October 2011 · Chapter 3: Merry Yule

Poor Dahlia, missing her family! But at least Frodo (and Merry!) helped her have a Merry Yule! (Good double meaning, lol!) Kaylee

Author's reply

I enjoy writing Dahlia, though she's only appeared in a few of my stories.
