Fimbrethil · 10 January 2026 · Chapter 19: A Nun in the Closet

I have no idea what the other story is, but I am glad and kind of surprised that Pippin's parents are not the ones to find him.

Fimbrethil · 9 January 2026 · Chapter 14: Hobbit and Mouse

Now THIS is THE combination! Any more? Such as when Sir Reepicheep comes to Gondor and meets the king? Or Galadriel?

Fimbrethil · 9 January 2026 · Chapter 13: The Enigma of the Mysterious Shop

Wow

Fimbrethil · 9 January 2026 · Chapter 12: The Job Interview

Haha! And the whole Ring Adventure began on a Thursday or Wednesday did it not? Oh, if only there was one of these job interviews for all our friends from Middle Earth. Seeing their different reactions...that would be epic.

Fimbrethil · 9 January 2026 · Chapter 10: Transformation

Nice! Especially Vingilot and the Man in the Moon!

Fimbrethil · 9 January 2026 · Chapter 7: Too Many Rangers

Haha. Is it true Trotter was Peregrin Took?

Fimbrethil · 9 January 2026 · Chapter 4: The Cook-off

Haha

Fimbrethil · 9 January 2026 · Chapter 3: Inequity

Tiny Tim! Now that is a combination I never thought of.

Fimbrethil · 3 January 2026 · Chapter 1: What Was that Job Description?

Lol. What would happen if Arwen is there? I suppose if he is from HP then he would have a bad view of Elves--also probably the reason why he couldn't tell he was talking to three!

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 14 June 2023 · Chapter 10: Transformation

It's been a little while since I've reviewed this one, and not on my accustomed day, either! Sorry to throw things off so, Larner. I do hope you're well, and making it through all right! Things have been weird these past few years, haven't they? Weirder than the sight our astronaut friends saw through the telescopes, even. But I do like coming back to them and sharing in their amazement now and again, even when it's not January. This piece inspired me to do an art piece for "Scribbles and Drabbles". I'm not sure if it's permitted for that, since it's technically a fanwork of a fanwork, so I'm waiting to hear back, but even if I can't use it for S&D I'd like to post it for you. Do you use Archive of our Own, so I can gift it to you there?

harrowcat · 25 April 2023 · Chapter 14: Hobbit and Mouse

Hi Larner, Will you please accept a thank you rather humbly offered eleven years late? I am happily spending my lunch breaks perusing ypur fine tales and came across the dedication. I went to look at what I said to you at the time and, embarrassingly, don't find my name among the reviewers. I don't know whether I responded to you privately at the time but, "better late than never". Thank you for a tale to make me smile when I am feeling very tired. Elizabeth

"Always this way, the third of January!" And I always come back to this tale on the third of January. I've recced it to others as well :) Ah, I do so adore "Transformation"! Happy New Year, and Happy Birthday to the Professor! Kaylee

Hi, Kayla. I missed this one, I see. Love knowing you still cams back to this one. The last few years have been stressful, and it takes so long to get things written any more. U Thanks so for your tradition of reading this. May the Master keep inspiring us! Author Reply: Hi, Kayla. I missed this one, I see. Love knowing you still cams back to this one. See autocorrect changed your name. Sorry about that, Kaylee.

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 3 January 2018 · Chapter 17: Disturbances of the Peace

Oh, I do hope Lady Violet recovered! *chuckles* Goodness. I still haven't seen much of Downton Abbey - is it currently available on Netflix? I should make that my next watch, if I can. :) To the Professor! Kaylee

"Always this way, the third of January! Heh! And so it is. *toasts Larner, and the Professor, with my chocolate milk this morning* No vodka for me :) Happy Birthday, Professor! And thank *you* Larner, for something so comforting and familiar that I can always return to on this day. I hope I find you well, and that you and your loved ones are as protected from the cold as possible. What a winter it's been! *looks at reports of snow in Florida in amazement* May your 2018 be blessed! Kaylee Arafinwiel

Author's reply

May 2019 be blessed for all of us, Kaylee!

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 3 January 2017 · Chapter 10: Transformation

Happy 2017, dear Larner, and a happy 125th birthday to the Professor! *toasts him with a glass of rather flat Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper, as it's leftover from the cinema yesterday* (I saw Rogue One...and then I had a weird dream last night that was like a crossover of Rogue One and this. Imagine if Tilion and the pilots of the other "vessels of crystal" got involved in the battle, perhaps led by Earendil...Yeah, my brain is definitely weird. :D ) May your days grow brighter, and may this year be much better than the last! Kaylee

Author's reply

Oh, yes, a most auspicious day indeed! I was drinking the remains of my eggnog as I wrote this. Haven't seen "Rogue One" yet, but time will tell. I got the new "Ben Hur," but let friends see it first, so won't get to see it myself until I return home at the beginning of the week. I would so hope this year would be better than last year, but am uncertain what to expect with the coming change in administrations. At least my rib is healing, even if it is still hurting some with the cold weather.

Raksha The Demon · 31 July 2016 · Chapter 18: A Little Surreptitious Help

A clever crossover of NCIS and LOTR! Loved the use of Landroval in the story; especially since you make him very real without Gibbs, or the reader, ever seeing him.

Author's reply

When I was challenged to do such a crossover I knew it had to include Gibbs; but I was stymied briefly as to how to get him into Middle Earth and the Northfarthing, until I spotted one of the eagles that nests down the road from my place soaring beyond the evergreens and alders on my western fenceline. So I determined not to let Gibbs actually see Landroval, which caused the Great Eagle a deal of amusement. Then I found myself borrowing Fiondil's Lullaby.... I love allowing my favorite worlds to touch briefly! Thanks!

Antane · 19 July 2016 · Chapter 19: A Nun in the Closet

They should have known not to leave Pippin alone! :) Clueless about the nun but love how he covered the sound of the stool and that he enjoyed himself so much. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Sister Monica Joan is from "Call the Midwife," a BBC production. She was born in an aristocratic household, and was disinherited when she chose to serve as an Army nurse and then joined a convent community dedicated to midwifery. She adores sweets, and would have adored Bilbo's larders! Who better for Pippin to find there? Heh! Thanks so!

Tari · 8 July 2016 · Chapter 19: A Nun in the Closet

Hmmmmm. Someone from our world in Hobbiton. Very interesting indeed.

Author's reply

She would have adored Bilbo's larder, I suspect. Heh! Thanks, Tari, and hope you enjoyed it!

6336 · 8 July 2016 · Chapter 19: A Nun in the Closet

Larner, I was up until 1.00 a.m. yesterday morning and it is all your fault, I was binge watching Call the Midwife on Youtube to find out just who Sister Monica Joan was, you are so right, she and Pippen would have made an awesome team when it came to pillaging pantries! What a delightful crossover. There were a couple of nuns in the original story who were just as dotty as Monica Joan, they would have fit right in! Lynda

Author's reply

Oh, I agree that Sister Monica Joan wasn't alone in being an eccentric in Mrs. Worth's original memoirs. I love both the real person and the BBC version. (I have the series in audio format, and listened to them while commuting to and from work. What a wonderful set of memories to have!) And who better to appreciate a Hobbit's larder than Sister Monica Joan? Heh!

Teresa Greenfalcon · 6 July 2016 · Chapter 19: A Nun in the Closet

This was FANTASTIC, Larner! I always look forward to your updates, and hope we eventually get to have that tea together I missed a while back! You now have me wanting to watch Call the Midwife finally - but I have to get a PAL-playing viewer! (I have them in PAL format) Tracey Claybon, in Bellevue (AKA Teresa Greenfalcon)

Author's reply

Thanks so, Tracey! I may make my way your direction perhaps next week on Tuesday or Wednesday, if you wish to meet after your done for the day with your new job. Congratulations! I have all five seasons in DVD format, so get to watch them pretty much whenever I wish, although I don't get to see them as they're aired on PBS as I don't have television reception here. And it was fun to put two of the characters I love most possessed of a sweet tooth together in this story. Thanks so much!

shirebound · 6 July 2016 · Chapter 19: A Nun in the Closet

So delightful! Shiremom absolutely adores "Midwife", so I'll print this out for her to read. Pippin will ponder this mystery all his life, no doubt.

Author's reply

I can't think of two individuals more likely to such mischief than Sister Monica Joan and a young Peregrin Took, really. Let me know how Shiremom likes it! Glad it gave you a giggle!

Tigger · 27 April 2016 · Chapter 18: A Little Surreptitious Help

Never did I think I'd ever see a LOTR NCIS Crossover, but...WOW!! Love it and you've got Gibbs voice pitch perfect here too. Adore MeGee and would have loved to have seen his face when he saw the rifle and hat...Hee hee hee!! This is just wonderful and I'm so happy you took up the challenge.

Author's reply

Oh, but when faced with such a challenge, what else might I have come up with? Heh! I do hope things are going better at home. God bless you and all those you love.

quodamat · 26 April 2016 · Chapter 9: Not a Typical Night's Work

I just came across this: how wonderful! Death and Namo: match made in an eccentric little corner of literary paradise. I'm suddenly thinking I'd love to see Elrond meet Vetinari... :)

Author's reply

And what do you think Elrond would think of Leonardo de Quirm? Heh! Or Glorfindel meeting Ghengis Cohen and his Silver Horde? Much less Aragorn meeting Captain Carrot. I so have loved Pratchett's work over the years! Glad you enjoyed this. It was fun to write!

Elwen · 23 March 2016 · Chapter 18: A Little Surreptitious Help

Love it, love it, love it. I think my favourite bit was the description of the rabbit but I love it all. Two of my favourite universes combined in one tale.

Author's reply

Oh, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I couldn't help but think, well, if there's a rabbit hole there MUST be at least one bunny around somewhere! Heh! Thanks for letting me know!

Antane · 8 March 2016 · Chapter 17: Disturbances of the Peace

I have watched very little of the Abbey but my parents are big fans and so I know of this lady and liked her best. That would indeed be disturbing images to see for a lady like that! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Oh, but I love Downton Abbey, so I had to find some way to pay tribute. And you love the Dowager Lady, too? So hope it amuses! Thanks so, Antane.
