Istie · 10 November 2013 · Chapter 6: Cook Needed

Took me a few minutes to figure out who the cat was :) Well, if anyone can cook what Garfield wants, it's Sam. I used to think a cat eating lasagna was odd, until I remembered what some of my cats used to eat...

Author's reply

Oh, we even had a calico who loved cantaloupe. As for spaghetti, she used to lick the plates while they were waiting to be washed! My grandsons had one of the Garfield collections lying about in the main bathroom, so I found myself reading it one evening and this silly idea started working at me.

Istie · 10 November 2013 · Chapter 1: What Was that Job Description?

Wonderful :) Though I'm not certain whether to say 'poor Gilderoy' or 'poor Minas Tirith'...

Author's reply

Can you imagine how the likes of Gilderoy Lockheart could manage to offend the denizens of Middle Earth, much less how underwhelmed people would be by his truly near-squib capabilities? So glad that this collection has managed to entertain you so! Thanks for all of the comments--they keep us writing!

Kitt Otter · 20 October 2013 · Chapter 15: A Battle of Wolves

Another satisfying continuation of an end!

Author's reply

It was a delight to find a way to see Lupin and Tonks suitably rewarded for their service and sacrifice in that last battle. Glad you, too, found it satisfying!

Kitt Otter · 20 October 2013 · Chapter 14: Hobbit and Mouse

I am so glad those two were able to meet! Reepicheep always had reminded me of a few certain hobbits. :)

Author's reply

I suspect that Reepicheep and Pippin especially would have enjoyed one another's company. Barring that, this meeting simply seemed fated! Heh!

Kitt Otter · 20 October 2013 · Chapter 11: Prepared to Live Indeed

So beautiful and satisfying!

Author's reply

Oh, I'm so glad you find it so! Loved trying to find a manner in which even Tom Riddle might find redemption. Thanks so, Kitt!

Kitt Otter · 20 October 2013 · Chapter 10: Transformation

Nice! I should try such a trick with my scope... the trickier part will be finding a group of people who would get it!

Author's reply

Oh, I agree! This one was a delight to write, I found. The Master has had a good deal of influence on how many of us view the universe, at least! Heh! Again, thanks so for enjoying this collection!

Kitt Otter · 15 October 2013 · Chapter 8: Light Reading

And surely Galadriel's hair is more potent than some unicorn's!

Author's reply

Wouldn't it be? Heh! Or a hair from Gandalf's beard should do superb! Thanks so!

Kitt Otter · 15 October 2013 · Chapter 7: Too Many Rangers

hahaha, poor Trotter! Like the job wasn't complicated enough already!

Author's reply

I loved mixing together elements from two different versions of Tolkien's efforts and seeing how they react when thrust together. I am so glad it made you laugh! Than you so!

Kitt Otter · 15 October 2013 · Chapter 6: Cook Needed

Lasagne, excellent! Another world-shattering crises averted by Samwise Gamgee!

Author's reply

Well, of course. Who better to meet the needs here than Samwise Gamgee? And it's fun to find a means to work such creatures as Garfield somehow into Middle Earth.

Tari · 19 September 2013 · Chapter 16: A Gift from Afar

Nanny McPhee in Hobbiton! What a hoot. LOL. I love both movies. She'd be great with the Hobbit children. I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Shepherd's Pie. Unfortunately that's a lot to make for one person who's freezer is too small to hold much. Wish you lived closer to me. Maybe I could talk you out of a piece. I bought a Shepard's Pie dinner at one of our local restaurants. Yuk! They so don't know how to make it.

Author's reply

I had the good Nanny appear earlier in this collection in "Why Mums and Dads Leave Home," and found that this particular challenge led me to extend upon that story a bit. I, too, loved both movies, and I've always loved the Mary Poppins books, since I was seven, I think! Travers left us such a wonderful character in the person of Mary Poppins, and I love Jane and Michael as well. I enjoyed the Disney adaptation, but face it--Julie Andrews just wasn't Mary Poppins! They had bad shepherd's pie at a restaurant? Oh, but that is too bad! I found a recipe in my Better Homes and Gardens cookbook and used it the first time I made it, but have come up with this one as a general guideline for when I make it for myself. I have only my son living with me, but I do have friends who love it, too, so I generally make it on a Sunday when I'm looking to spend the evening with them, and I usually make certain that another friend who lives alone gets a share as well. If you lived out here on the Olympic Peninsula I'd be glad to share it with you! Heh! Glad you enjoyed this!

shirebound · 18 September 2013 · Chapter 16: A Gift from Afar

I suspect that they're related to Gandalf, as well. :) What an utterly delightful story. Oh, what a feast! And what a lovely, heartfelt, somewhat magical gift at the end. I truly enjoyed this.

Author's reply

Well, such individuals as Mary Poppins and Nanny McPhee do appear to have a good deal of--authority--behind their work, don't they? Heh! Am so glad this pleased you so! And why not a modern cookbook for our beloved Hobbits? Thanks so, Shirebound!

Soledad · 18 September 2013 · Chapter 16: A Gift from Afar

Oh, this was such a wonderful idea! These two, with Hobbits - that must have been a riot!

Author's reply

I do think it must have been so, Soledad! Thank you so!

Fiondil · 30 May 2013 · Chapter 15: A Battle of Wolves

Oh, this is grand, Larner. I loved it. I bet Legolas and Theron kept what they witnessed a secret between them. Who would believe them, any way? It was nice to know that Remus and Tonks would continue fighting the good fight by Oromë's side. Good on them!

Author's reply

This was in its way more satisfying to write than the one about Gollum taking over Frodo's life after possibly eating him. So glad you like it, too, and I suspect you are possibly right about Legolas and Theron not telling anyone else about what they'd seen. Thanks so! Kaylee Arafinwiel · 30 May 2013 · Chapter 15: A Battle of Wolves

(Also known as Kaylee Lupin...xD) Thank you, thank you so much mellon nin! I love this interlude, and it brings my Harry Potter fannish self great closure to think that things could have happened this way for Remus, and for Tonks. Why not, after all? I like to think they would both be happier in Orome's train, joining in the Hunt and free of the taint of Fenrir Greyback. :) Thank you for the lovely birthday story! Kaylee Lily Andromeda Tonks-Lupin aka Kaylee Arafinwiel (lol :) )

Author's reply

I'm so glad that you like it, Kaylee. But, considering your two obsessions I thought you'd like this! And I do believe that you are so right! And you are most welcome!

Lyana · 29 May 2013 · Chapter 15: A Battle of Wolves

Oh, chills and tears on this one! And this doesn't quite fit the category - I DO wish this scenario could have been. :-)

Author's reply

And who is to say that it couldn't have happened? Am so glad others agree with me that this SHOULD have happened! Thank you!

UTfrog · 29 May 2013 · Chapter 15: A Battle of Wolves

What a great concept and very well executed. Thank you.

Author's reply

I am so glad that you liked it! Thank you!

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 3 January 2013 · Chapter 10: Transformation

Just completing my yearly tradition! *raises cup of Lucerne light eggnog, which I am sure doesn't have alcohol in it* To the Professor! May this new year be bright and beautiful for you, Larner! Thank you for writing such a wonderful story, and thanks to SoA I come back to it again and again!! With much love and admiration, dear friend, Kaylee Arafinwiel

Author's reply

And thank you. My newest birthday present for the Master was just posted in "Another Moment," so enjoy!

Armariel · 1 November 2012 · Chapter 14: Hobbit and Mouse

So cute! I've seen this one before. I haven't read the story in which the mouse originally appears, but I still like this one. I'm sure Reepicheep (sp?) and Frodo will get along splendidly. Wonder what Sam will think of him. ~~~~~{~@

Author's reply

Reepicheep is from Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawntreader from C.S. Lewis's Narnia series. I figured that of all the characters I could think of from that universe, he'd be the most likely to find himself on Tol Eressea! And I'm sure that he and Frodo will along very well. As for Sam, I suspect he'll take it in stride, once he gets there.

Tari · 8 October 2012 · Chapter 14: Hobbit and Mouse

Reepicheep in Tol Eressëa, wonderful. He is one of my favorite characters from Narnia. I do hope you write more with him in it. He's just to cute for words.

Author's reply

I hope he doesn't hear you, his honor being as it is. I doubt he likes knowing others find him too cute for words! Heh! Thanks so, Tari.

Agape4Gondor · 7 October 2012 · Chapter 14: Hobbit and Mouse

What a brilliant stroke of imagination! I did so love Reep in the chronicles. A delightful character. You do him proud. Just the thought of the two of them eating a piece of cheese together, sharing their tales, and watching the sun set in the... West? East? I ponder the juxtaposition of Psalm 103. "As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us." Realizing that Middle-earth was turned from flat to circular, east is west and west is east, but Eru has no problem with making things happen. Even causing a meeting between a brave mouse and a stalwart Hobbit. (Don't tell Reep, but I think Frodo really needed a pet.) *g*

Author's reply

Well, in sailing East, Reep came upon the eastern shore of the Lonely Isle, while in sailing West, Frodo arrived on its western shore. When East and West meet in such a manner, should not two such heroes find it possible to meet? (And I promise I won't tell the mouse as long as you agree not to let Frodo know that Reepicheep considers him a friend worth guarding!)

Antane · 6 October 2012 · Chapter 14: Hobbit and Mouse

What a delightful surprise to see Reepicheep here! I read the Narnia books as part of my first semester of starting my Master's Degree at the Mythgard Institute. My favorite was Dawn Treader. I love this most Tookish of mice and the scene of him leaving in his coracle at the end to seek more adventure. More, more! *hugs him and you* Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

My favorite is "The Silver Chair," actually, although I also love "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader." Reepicheep, a Tookish mouse? If you add in a good deal of self-conceit and a bit of ennui, perhaps. Am so glad you enjoyed it!

Lindelea · 6 October 2012 · Chapter 14: Hobbit and Mouse

I am laughing with delight, my friend! ...a land he has not yet visited, eh? (and East and West all the same from there, yes, that does make a certain kind of sense if you tip it on one side and squint a Mortal eye) What a lovely treat! (And Happiest of Birthdays to Harrowcat, and many happy returns!)

Author's reply

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Lindelea, and that you got time to read today. I doubt that Olorin has been able to visit all of the worlds as yet. I'm trying to imagine him on the Diskworld, being totally taken aback by the Librarian, although I think he and Granny Weatherwax would understand one another and find kindred spirits in one another immediately. "A Witch sees what needs doing and sees it done!" Yes, he'd understand that immediately! In the Western churches Christ sits at the Father's right hand, while in the Japanese churches He sits at the Father's LEFT hand, that being the place of honor in Japan. So, Uttermost East and West, in the end, are the same place, only adjusted for handedness, I suppose. I send love to the younger Hobbits and the husband, Zoe, and the cats. The poms had to have baths this morning--one got sick last night, and there was a good deal of cleaning up to do before I could lie down once I got home from work. They send tail wags, and Lydia, Simon, and Sydney send purrs.

shirebound · 6 October 2012 · Chapter 14: Hobbit and Mouse

What a marvelous idea! Oh, the tales Frodo and Reepicheep will be telling one another, and the companionship they will surely enjoy!

Author's reply

It would be a marvelous friendship, wouldn't it? Heh! And I think that Aslan would purr mightily to meet our Frodo!

UTfrog · 6 October 2012 · Chapter 14: Hobbit and Mouse

Delightful.

Author's reply

Thank you, UTfrog!
