Author's reply
Hehehe! Yes, He'll be getting help now. They all will :-) Thank you, shirebound!

Author's reply
Hi Agape :-) Wow! We dumbfounded someone. Is it a good sort of dumbfounded? I hope so.
Andrea · 6 May 2007 · Chapter 6: Help in an Unexpected Place
“Feva says it’s all right then. She says being broken doesn’t matter so much if you’re loved.” Oh my! Thank God (or Iluvatar) for that little girl and her doll! Are there angels in Middle Earth? If so, that little girl was one! Now that Pippin is able to see that his kin and friends have not abandoned him as broken, he can make a new start and ask the healers for help. It's very interesting that he seeks out Parsow, and not Aragorn. Well, Parsow will know what to do and whom to ask for help, of that I'm sure! The only thing that troubles me is that "floating" sensation. That is due to the brain damage, isn't it? It must be a disturbing, frightening, even alien feeling! I really hope, Pippin will find the healing he is looking for!
Author's reply
Hi, Andrea! Mallenfinnros did say to find a healer and Aragorn is a bit more than that ;-) She is a very special person indeed. Eventually I think things will get taken care of :-) Thank you so much!
Bodkin · 6 May 2007 · Chapter 6: Help in an Unexpected Place
Good girl, Mallefinnros. Such a good thing you turned up just then and jerked Pippin out of his bath of self-pity. Others have it worse and love is not conditional. Two very important pieces of information to chip through his self-absorption. And get him to put the knife down. I hope he manages to get himself to the Houses of Healing and Parsow. That will be better for his self-esteem than being found now and escorted to ask for help. This is his decision - and it would be a shame to have it taken from him.
Author's reply
Well said, Bodkin, and thank you :-) He needs to feel he's making some of his own choices. The voice of a stranger is often the one that can reach us.
PIppinfan1988 · 5 May 2007 · Chapter 6: Help in an Unexpected Place
My jaw is still hanging open...lol. This is absolutely fabulous, wonderfully done! I had a hunch Pippin might feel so wretched that he might do something like what he was almost successful at. The little girl was adorable! I'd like to see another glimpse of her, that is, if your muse takes you in that direction. :-) Now I'm looking forward to the hobbit reunion and heartfelt emotions. :-) MEWD!! PF
Author's reply
Aw, we got a MEWD!!!! Thank you, Pippinfan :-) Our lad came awfully close. I'm hoping you'll like what is coming!
Garnet Took · 5 May 2007 · Chapter 6: Help in an Unexpected Place
*Steps back from the clif and breathes a sigh of relief* This was so sweet. I'm overjoyed that that sweet little girl came along when she did. And what wisdom from the mouth of a child. She really has a grasp on the concept of unconditional love. Also it was good that Pippin could see that, despite all the bad things that have happened, here was a person making the best of things. This was just beautiful. Now I'm looking forward to what Pippin can learn from Parsow. I hope I spelled his name right. I just had a really bad senior moment. I'm also really curious to see what Frodo, Merry and Sam's reaction to things is. Once again, great job. Looking froward to more.
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Garnet :-) She's wise indeed :-) And I think Pippin's caring and (normally) cheery nature are helping him. I'm glad you are still enjoying this. There is indeed more to come ;-)
Dreamflower · 5 May 2007 · Chapter 6: Help in an Unexpected Place
Poor Pippin! I'm so glad though, that he was able to talk to the little girl, and that he realized that he was not the only one hurting, and that in spite of everything, he was still loved. Sometimes children can see things very clearly indeed. The others have to be frantic, though. I hope that they soon will learn where he is. Parsow will be a big help, I think. But Aragorn should have told them of his concerns earlier.
Author's reply
Hi Dreamflower :-) Yes, Aragorn should have, but then the story wouldn't have been so interesting - well - at least that's what Golden and I thought *G* Might not have even needed this scene and that would have been a shame. Everyone will learn everything soon :-)
Daynawayna · 5 May 2007 · Chapter 6: Help in an Unexpected Place
Out of the mouths of babes does wisdom flow. That pretty much sums up my review. Amazing chapter Pearl.
Author's reply
Hi Daynawayna! That sums it up nicely :-) Thank you so much!
Larner · 5 May 2007 · Chapter 6: Help in an Unexpected Place
From the mouths of babes.... And indeed it's time to speak to Parsow--AND Aragorn. He has some wonderful resources at hand, after all. Glad he got to meet Mallefinnros and Feva--I suspect that these are two small angels in disguise. And the perceptions about Feva remind me very much of Nanny McPhee.... Wonderful, Pearl.
Author's reply
Thank you, Larner! Nanny McPhee was a cool movie! The wheels are finally turning :-)
Telpethoron · 5 May 2007 · Chapter 6: Help in an Unexpected Place
Out of the mouths of babes... How easy it would have been for Pippin to end his own life there amongst the rubble, until a child comes along and reminds him that however he may feel, there ARE those who love him. He is not alone in his suffering. Beautiful chapter here, Pearl.
Author's reply
Hi Telpethoron! It would have been, yes. Interruptions can sometimes be a good thing :-) Thank you so much :-)
Larner · 4 May 2007 · Chapter 5: Grim Discoveries
This indeed could be very serious. Time to find the lad, and as quickly as possible.
Author's reply
Hi Larner :-) Yes, send out the Mounties! Blood hounds! Elves!
Agape4Gondor · 3 May 2007 · Chapter 5: Grim Discoveries
Again - again you leave us with our fingernails being chewed down to nubbins and tears streaming down our eyes and our hearts palpating as we worry for our beloved Pippin - and his friends... If HE dies, what will they do??????????? Especially Merry now that he's wounded his friend so badly! Oh dear - needless to say - HURRY UP WITH THE NEXT PART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Author's reply
Thank you dear Agape! Yes, we do seem to be hanging everyone of a lot of cliffs. I'm hoping to post Monday. (I'm hoping . . .)
PIppinfan1988 · 3 May 2007 · Chapter 5: Grim Discoveries
Wow... I'd hate to think what Pippin, even at his worst, would consider doing with a knife. I have a couple of things in mind, neither of which I would wish on my worst enemy. You and Golden are doing awesome! I'm waiting on pins and needles for more. :-) PF
Author's reply
Thank you, Pippinfan :-) No, not good possibilities at all! Hopefully I'll be posting on Monday :-)
Andrea · 3 May 2007 · Chapter 5: Grim Discoveries
Oh my god!!! Now, *that* I call a cliffhanger! When I think about Pippin out there somewhere with that *knife* - someone has to find him, and quickly! And poor old Merry! He did not want to say that, but he did! He can't turn the time back, but he still can apologise, which he would gladly do, of that I'm sure. If he only could find him... P.S.: I really enjoyed how Sam was fighting with words, when he tried to avoid the "Mr" :) Thank you, Pearl and Golden for another thrilling chapter!
Author's reply
You are most welcome, Andrea! Thank you for reading and responding :-) I'm glad you liked Sam's struggle to drop the formalities! It had to be hard for him, at least until he became Mayor ;-)
Garnet Took · 3 May 2007 · Chapter 5: Grim Discoveries
OH. MY. GOD! You can't leave us like this! Nnnnooooooo! I feel the cliff crumbling under my fingernails already. Deep breath. This was an excellent chapter. I'm glad they are starting to realize something is truly amiss, even if Sam is still on the wrong track and the other two have no idea what the matter might really be. I'm also glad Merry calmed himself enough to realize that he was totally in the wrong with his outburst to Pippin. But those two can't stay upset with each other for too long, it just isn't natural. They have to hurry and find Pippin, though. If he has that knife, and all signs point that way, he could do himself a lot of harm very quickly; especially if he acts on impulse, which is the about the only way he ever does act. Please say the next chapter is right behind this one. That cliff is still crumbling, and I know there's going to be a lot more weight on it once everyone else gets here and reads this. Great job both you and Golden.
Author's reply
Thank you so very much, Garnet :-) The situation has finally forced them to talk about what is going on, even if their ideas aren't necessarily going in the right direction. Golden and I are learning about co-writing a story while living in time zones that are 7 hours apart, as well as just the challenges of co-writing. Hopefully the next chapter will be posted by early next week. My husband is home this weekend so I won't have as much time to spend writing. Hang on tight to your cliff edge! We'll get a rope to you and everyone else as soon as we can :-)
Dreamflower · 2 May 2007 · Chapter 4: Forcing the Issue
Oh dear! It seems clear that Pippin's had a personality change, such as is sometimes brought on by a stroke--what are they going to be able to do about it? And I have a feeling that Aragorn is going to be in for some hard questions from his companions. Frodo especially is not going to be happy that this possibility was kept from him. I'm curious to see how this plays out.
Author's reply
Yes, the lad is behaving differently - at least at times. You've reminded me of something we'll need to deal with, thank you :-) And thank you for reading and responding!
Dreamflower · 2 May 2007 · Chapter 3: Unspoken
I didn't realize I had missed a chapter until I went to read the latest one, and soon figured out I had missed something. This is really worrisome--Pippin has clearly had some sort of brain injury of one kind or another. It's bad that those who are worrying about him are not comparing notes--they'd very soon realize somethin is seriously wrong. It looks as though Pippin's having some seizures...
Author's reply
And I missed this response :-O I'm sorry. You have made some interesting guesses - we'll have to see if you're right :-) Thank you so much, Dreamflower!
Andrea · 1 May 2007 · Chapter 4: Forcing the Issue
Oh my god! Merry's last words were too much for poor Pippin, I fear! So, is it a lesion in the brain, like Larner suggested? That would be terrible! To be honest, I had to look that word up - lesion, I have never heard of it before. But it really frightens me! Like shirebound and Larner, I think it's high time for the master healers, Aragorn and Elrond, to show their skills! And for Merry to apologise ;-) He didn't mean it, I know and the tea must have been very hot. But he could have used some less drastic words! Please update soon!
Author's reply
Hi Andrea! Well . . . we'll see what it all is shortly. :-) Merry will regret his words - he is, after all, a good, kind hobbit. Soon. Things will come to light soon :-) Thank you for reading!
shirebound · 1 May 2007 · Chapter 4: Forcing the Issue
*sob* *frets* Somebody pull Aragorn and Elrond away from their less important duties, quick!
Author's reply
Soon :-) Thank you for sticking with us!
PIppinfan1988 · 1 May 2007 · Chapter 4: Forcing the Issue
I am in awe of this wonderful story, Pearl! Golden is doing marvelous, too! :-) Seems everything is indeed coming to a head...and landing on poor Pippin's. Before, he was just glad to be alive, now it appears he's going through the anger stage. All of this, his reactions, his friends reactions, are all on the money and fantastic. Gotta go, work is shrieking its nasssty voices at me... PF
Author's reply
Nassty work. It's evil workses, my precioussss! Thank you so much, from Golden and me! Yes, it's landing on Pip like a troll. So glad you feel things are on the money!
Larner · 1 May 2007 · Chapter 4: Forcing the Issue
Oh, dear, another seizure and all are miserable. Okay, Aragorn, put your healers training from your foster father to work here and let them know what's going on. Poor Pippin--with the lesion in the brain he can't drink much any more.
Author's reply
You do have it spot on, Larner ;-) The tide will turn soon - I think chapter 6 or 7. Depends on how long I feel I can have 5 go without it being too long for people to sit at their computers and read. Thank you :-)
Bodkin · 30 April 2007 · Chapter 4: Forcing the Issue
Of course the problem is they are all at the edge of their control. The relief has worn off and they need ... something more. Otherwise all three hobbits - and the rest of the Fellowship - would be hovering over Pippin and doing their best to sort out what is wrong with him. (Although perhaps it would help if they shared their worries! They might begin to spot a pattern.)
Author's reply
Exactly, Bodkin! Real Life, so to speak, is keeping them all otherwise occupied and unsure of how they should respond to things. That and I think it happens to all of us at some time or another that our minds choose to not deal with what we see happening. In Pip's case, it doesn't help that some of these things are similar to ways he behaved in the past. That makes it easier to not see the ways they are different. Thank you for your good comments!
Bodkin · 30 April 2007 · Chapter 3: Unspoken
Oh dear - the forgetfulness and moments of absence are a bit worrying. Pippin's physical problems are probably easier for his kin to deal with than anything more ... brain-related. Although it'll give Frodo something else to think about and might actually help his recovery.
Author's reply
Hi Bodkin! Hehehe hopefully it will distract the good Mr. Baggins eventually :-) Problems of the mind/brain that cause odd behavior are the ones most likely to be avoided, I think. Thank you!
Agape4Gondor · 30 April 2007 · Chapter 4: Forcing the Issue
'He had caught Sam hobbling when Frodo wasn’t around.' OH! How incredibly sad! Oh dear, you broke my heart with this line... dear, dear Sam - hiding his injuries from Frodo... 'Merry had scolded him again earlier in the day...' The evil you spoke of grows darker - poor Merry, attacking his best friend, and poor Pip being the target of said attacks! 'The world froze.' I have a horribly dark feeling that you are going to kill me with this story. I am grateful the chapters seem to be flowing quickly - for I cannot hold onto the edge of the chair for very much longer! WOW!
Author's reply
Thank you, Agape :-) I'll have to remember I mentioned that about Sam ;-) I think they are all in denial - but that's too modern a thought to put in the story. And they all actually have good reasons for being a bit on edge. I hope I don't kill you. If RL would quit interruptiing, I might have things posted a bit faster.
storyfish · 30 April 2007 · Chapter 4: Forcing the Issue
Wow~! I haven't read many fics lately, but I was procrastinating on grading papers and found this story and...WOW! This wonderful and horrifying and fascinating and a really unique tale. I can't wait to find out what happens next--like, how will Pippin and the others feel when they find out the extent of his injuries? And what exactly ARE the extent of his injuries? And will he ever recover ever??? And and and--!!! I hope you update soon. :-)
Author's reply
Hi Storyfish! Glad we hooked you and are reeling you in! (bad puns - bad puns) Golden is great to work with and I'm so grateful that she is letting me help bring this tale to the readers at SOA. Thank you so much for your kind words and I'll hopefully be updating before the week is out!
