· Chapter 4: Forcing the Issue
Oh my goodness. Things have really gotten bad. I was not expecting Pippin to have something like that happen to him at the tavern. If he knew what he'd said and done, he'd be mortified. He would never intentianly do something like that to any of them.
I felt so bad for him waking up the way he did, Yuck! That was awful. And now Sam is pretty sure it was Pippin who left the mess in tha bathing room, and he's liable to mistake the why of it. Pippin is in for a lot worse unless someone gets to the bottom of this real soon.
At least it seems they didn't put him to bed on his back. That could have been really, really bad.
I think I'm going to have to reread this chapter to get all the details. You must update SOON! I can't stand leaving them at this point. I won't have any fingernails left.
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Garnet :-)
They are all on tenter hooks and it will all come to a head soon. I'm hoping to update this week for sure, though I hate to say when. As soon as I do something happens and I don't make it.
Yes, Sam is fairly sure he knows what's amiss now. And soon the others will too.
Thank you!

I absolutely HATE it when people see something wrong and, either it doesn't register, or they feel it's not their 'place' to say anything - and poor Pippin is worsening!
This was a beautiful thought - 'It was easy to accept their limitations, for all about them were soldiers with similar conditions.'
Author's reply
Hi Agape,
Unfortunately that happens all too often - we even do it to ourselves. We think we might have something wrong, but put off going to the Dr. Or we choose to not see the obvious.
Thank you. I felt that even back in Minas Tirith it would be as comfortable as it had been in a camp full of soldiers who had been through the battles.
I'm so glad you're reading and enjoying this.

Small seizures, or transischemic attacks? I hope the former, as they are usually far less damaging in the end.
And this would be confusing for those who aren't accustomed to seeing such things.
Author's reply
We shall soon see. Very confusing indeed, and what's hard about it is they keep getting upset with him.
Thank you for being here, Larner :-)

Awesome, Pearl! This is progressing *nicely*! I'm getting anxious as to how everyone will eventually find out what's up with sweet Pippin.
Waiting eagerly for everything to come to a head soon...! :-) Very well done!

Pearl is doing a great job with writing it! *HUGS*
And even I know what is coming, I can´t wait to get the next Chapter into my hands...well or into my mailbox. *runs checking*

I hope you still think I'm doing a great job . . . *anxiously biting my nails*
You are a great person to work with and are helping me to stretch my writing.

· Chapter 3: Unspoken
His cousins had said nothing . . . Sam decided it wasn’t his place to say anything either.
And that decision will prove wrong, won't it? Oh my, sometimes I wished I could have a talk with Sam and tell him that he should forget about classes. They are friends now, and friends can tell each other everything. Or they should! But Pippin's cousins have also their difficulties.
I can understand them, though! If I wanted to characterise myself, it would be a mixture of Merry and Frodo, I think :) I love plans, but on the other had I tend to brood over things! So, my reaction would probably be the same.
Let's hope someone recognises the signs and helps Pippin to fight whatever evil memory is paining him! That's what I think it is.
Great chapter! I'm looking forward to reading more!
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Andrea :-)
They all need each other and will get over their problems soon, I think.

· Chapter 3: Unspoken
This chapter is amazing. You capture so many moments in such a short span of words.
I loved your presenting the time they spent in Ithilien as utopian. It wasn't until they returned to Minas Tirith that they suddenly realized they were going to have to start living in the real world, where people weren't always understanding and helpful to those who were different or couldn't always do for themselves.
Your description of morning breaking on the White City was beautiful.
There is definitely a problem. Merry, Frodo and Sam are obviously seeing changes in Pippin, but they are not talking to each other about it. I get the feeling that Pippin even realizes something isn't right, but he's to frustraited with the situation to tell anyone. Merry's annoyed because he's one of those people who just gets on with things, he sucks up his pain, shuts his mouth and just keeps doing what needs doing. Frodo has this fixation that all things can be relearned and he's determined to see to it that he and Pippin both succeed, with or without Pippin's help. Sam, who probably sees this situation the clearest is too stuck in his ideas of class and propriety to speak to anyone about what he's seeing. At this rate, they're headed for disaster.
You are doing a wonderful job, you and Golden both.
Looking forward to whatever comes next.
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Garnet, for your generous praise :-)
I think many of us do those sort of things, try to deal with the issue by avoiding it. I know I'm that way with politics.
They are heading for a rough time.

Yes, Pippin was undoubtedly as overwhelmed as Sam and Frodo would be likely to feel the next day.
Excellent descriptions, and very realistic. Loved how those honored had their tales told, and the Hobbits recognized their own amidst the several presented to the assembly.

Yep...I caught both places in this chapter that will show what is to come. ;-) Very, very, excellent, indeed! I can see how this could be troublesome when he becomes Thain, but we shall see how he copes, which is one of the many purposes of this wonderful tale.
LOL, I see you have been to enough of your son's Award Ceremonies to see what one is like. :-) It was well done! I do like how you show the valour of other soldiers besides that of Merry and Pippin -- not to discount theirs at all, absolutely not, but I do believe that there were other soldiers just as courageous as our beloved hobbits.
*Extremely* eager for more!

Hi Pippinfan!
As I was writing this it hit me that it was as unlikely that they were the only ones to be knighted as it really was unlikely that Pip had come off so unscathed from the troll incident. I just had to write that there were other heroes being recognized by the new kings.
I'm glad I did it well :-)

Poor Merry! He so needs to know all these things, yet he's almost going to have information overload--Frodo, Sam, Pippin, all needing his concern and care.
I'm more than a little worried about what Aragorn's *not* saying, and I have a niggling suspicion about it. He seems to think he'll tell Parsow about it--I hope this means we readers will find out before Merry does.
Author's reply
Hi dreamflower!
At least when Frodo and Sam wake up, Sam can share some of the load :-)
I think things will be clear to most readers by the time we let good old Merry, as well as Frodo and Sam, know what is coming.

I'm so glad to see an update to this.
I love the little bits of humor you wove into this chapter. I especially liked Pippin's plea, "Order them to stop."
I knew something was not going to be quite right, and it was confirmed the first time Pippin repeated himself. The staring off into space is another sign. If it's what I think it is, I hope these episodes don't keep worsening, for Pippin's sake. But, as a Pippinhealer, I'm of a whole other opinion.(evil grin)
I'm practically salivating for another chapter of this. You all are doing a fantastic job!
Author's reply
Hi Garnet! Thank you for noticing the humor :-) There will be a bit of a wait for the next chapter as Golden is going to be away from a computer all next week and I won't post a chapter without her reading it first, since it was her plot bunny that started it all. I'm hoping that will me to get ahead a few chapters and make it easier to keep posting at regular intervals.

King Elessar looked at the White Wizard. Had he ever seen Gandalf look more like a proud grandfather? The king smiled, he was sure he hadn’t. He could hardly wait to see the look on that dearly loved face on the morrow when Frodo and Sam would be honored.
Great! Gandalf as a proud grandfather, I like that image :)
But I'm really concerned about Pippin! What is it that he is seeing? His mind seems to be occupied with things he doesn't want to share with anyone else, not even Merry. Or maybe he doesn't understand what he sees?
I'm really worried!
P.S.: I fondly remember the story about Gimli's gift and I hope it helps our Pippin!
Author's reply
Hi Andrea!
I've always pictured Gandalf as feeling very grandfatherly toward all the hobbits, though Pippin in particular, and I was glad to find out that Golden does too - that part was hers :-)
I'm afraid to say that it will be a while before we find out what is happening with Pippin - have to have something to keep everyone's interest ;-) But I won't leave you all hanging forever.

It was suddenly very easy to remember that, by the reckoning of his kind, Pippin was still a youngster. Strider sighed. With all the lad had gone through, that all the hobbits had gone through, he had allowed himself to forget how young Peregrin actually was. He went down on one knee, his height no longer being an advantage.
He looked Pippin in the eye. “I promise you that you will be at their welcome and at the feast.”
It was a king’s promise and Pippin gave him a proper reply. “Thank you, your majesty.”
That passage is so wonderful. And this one...
King Elessar looked at the White Wizard. Had he ever seen Gandalf look more like a proud grandfather? The king smiled, he was sure he hadn’t. He could hardly wait to see the look on that dearly loved face on the morrow when Frodo and Sam would be honored.

Poor Merry - having to be the one to receive so much bad news while he's still healing himself. Hmmm...I wonder just how long it will take for Aragorn's last bit of information to come out into the open... Parsow's character is growing by leaps and bounds - I really like him.

I do like Parsow! He is definitely making a place for himself among the great!
But Aragorn's information! And he's not telling everything - healers never do. Minimum information you can get away with ...
Strider looked deep into Merry’s eyes. There was more. A fear that niggled at his thoughts. Did Merry really need to know when there was a fair chance that nothing would come of it? And yet, who better to watch for any symptoms?
Could be a mistake, Strider! (Although I daresay Parsow will pick up on anything. Hopefully. He has a trained eye - but, when it comes to Pippin, Merry has a very, very honed sense of anything being out of place.)
Author's reply
Thank you, my dear!

It's situations like this that I have always felt must be hard on healers/doctors. Do I say what might be or only what I know is? If I say what might be, will they begin to see it, even if it isn't there?

Merry seems fragile like an egg at the moment. Tough and resilient in some ways, but he would be easily shattered.
