NO!!! Roast Pippin!!! It was wonderful he worked out to use the machine and that it performed so beautifully as well :-) On to the next . . . I'm worried about Pip!

Grey Wonderer · 16 February 2008 · Chapter 13: You Never Did Like That Engine

You are evil beyond words! How can you take what seems to be a calm-after-many- storms sort of chapter and turn THAT into a cliff-hanger? How? I know you are always supposed to leave your readers wanting more but really! LOL Has Pippin relapsed? Has something happened to Merry? Is something else on fire? Now I have to sit here and wonder exactly what you are up to now. The Thain isn't the only mischief maker around here. On another note, I love the way Pippin is indirectly responsible for the fire on top of everything else. And the way Sam rushed in quickly to keep Merry for listing too many of Pippin's faults was very diplomatic indeed. Brilliant all the way to the end.

Author's reply

Oh I'm not up to much. My evil trend is mostly due to KM's influence. But no more cliffs, we just jumped over the last one. Ta muchly for reviewing, I'm glad it's finally finished, except now I have to finish Recaptured - groan.

Andrea · 16 February 2008 · Chapter 13: You Never Did Like That Engine

He even tolerated Merry coming to read to him now and again from the new book he was writing on herb lore, which was a good indication to everyone (except perhaps Merry) that the Thain was decidedly under the weather. Oh dear! I found those excerpts of Merry's herb lore in "The Lord of the Rings" very entertaining! But I'm no hobbit... I also found shirebound's review very fitting. And so I would like to ask with her: What???? I'm looking forward to reading more.

Author's reply

I'm sure Merry's books were entertaining, but that was only after they had been through the hands of a very strict editor. More is here - then there is no more. Sorry, but thanks so much for reviewing.

Katherine-The-Crowned · 16 February 2008 · Chapter 13: You Never Did Like That Engine

I've always liked Hobbits. I like how the others are showing so much care to Pip. Wow, I have got to know what happens. Update soon!

Author's reply

Update as requested! Thanks for reviewing - always much appreciated.

cookiefleck · 16 February 2008 · Chapter 13: You Never Did Like That Engine

Somehow, I'm thinking of that engine again. ;o) I like the way you resolved the race. And I hope Frodo-lad got a treat for his labors. Can't wait to read more!

Author's reply

Oh Frodo just does it for the laughs! That and he minds his Dad. More ready - thanks for reviewing.

shirebound · 16 February 2008 · Chapter 13: You Never Did Like That Engine

What? What what what?? *paces impatiently*

Author's reply

Sit down. No need to fret. Two new chapters added (the end and the epilogue) Thanks for reviewing!

Larner · 15 February 2008 · Chapter 12: A Hundred Engines Laid End-To-End

A wonderful rescue! Hooray for Merry and Sam as well as Pippin!

Author's reply

And now on to tying up the ends. Thanks for reviewing and new chapter awaits.

cookiefleck · 13 February 2008 · Chapter 12: A Hundred Engines Laid End-To-End

Ah, such brave hobbits! Such dramatic writing! *gives cheer* I wonder if Merry is going to need dental work now from all the teeth-grinding. ;o)

Author's reply

Perhaps they could have used the steam engine to pull rotten teeth out? Oh well, too late now. Thanks for reviewing and new chapter awaits!

Althea · 12 February 2008 · Chapter 12: A Hundred Engines Laid End-To-End

These last two chapters have been nail-biters. It was great to see Pippin so quick-thinking and brave, and wonderful to see Merry and Sam promptly forget their rivalry in their efforts to save the Green Dragon and, especially, Pippin. Pippin's wondering if he'd done something brave or foolish was priceless. I've loved every minute of this story.

Author's reply

Don't go! There's more! Thanks for reviewing and hope you like the new chapter(s).

Grey Wonderer · 12 February 2008 · Chapter 12: A Hundred Engines Laid End-To-End

I loved the way Sam had to keep Merry from leaping into the building after Pippin. Merry must have been desperate to save his Pip because it isn't often that Merry forgets to think things through. Good thing Sam was there at that moment. ("Why did you say that?" Pippin frowned, then winced with pain. "Did I do something stupid or brave?" "Both," Merry smiled down at him and tried to wipe some of the black soot smudges off Pippin's worried face. "As usual." I knew it must be one or the other," Pippin sighed, his eyes closing again. "Because I hurt all over." ) that bit was perfect! ("Ha!" Merry shrugged dismissively. "No matter. I'd rather have my magnificent cousin. After all, Pippin is capable of causing more excitement on his own than a hundred engines laid end-to-end.") I agree completely with Merry. One thing's for certain though, the machine had its uses. Sam might have come to like it. Oh and I may have said but if so then I will repeat myself. I love the titles of the chapters! I have found them all very entertaining. Looking forward to more! Three cheers for the Thain! Three cheers for the Master! Three cheers for the Mayor! And nine cheers for Llinos!

Author's reply

Indeed, Merry does tend to lose all sense where Pippin is concerned. My title chapters do tend to be a trifle cavalier. Probably designed to make reader think the content is more exciting than it is! But whatever works! Thanks for reviewing and new chapter awaits your inspection. (PS I'm sure I don't deserve NINE cheers, but they are much appreciated)

PIppinfan1988 · 12 February 2008 · Chapter 12: A Hundred Engines Laid End-To-End

*Sigh* I can "smell" an ending coming up. :-( Perhaps if I beg hard enough it won't ever come. ;-) What an exciting day for Bywater! The Shire's first ever Fire Brigade headed up by Captains Meriadoc and Peregrine. What a brave duo! I love how you portrayed Merry's deep and abiding love for his younger cousin through those anxious moments not knowing what happened to Pippin, and in spite of the Apparatus being smashed to bits. I know a piece of Merry's heart was with it. This is such a delightful story of how well hobbits get on together, and how well they work together, too. The Professor mentioned that they can work like bees when the mood strikes them. I'm *still* enjoying this tale and hope to enjoy it for a long while yet. ;-) (hint, hint)

Author's reply

Oh but it doesn't end here! Yes poor Merry to lose his precious engine - but at least he still has a slightly battered Pip. New chapter up and more to follow, so your hints are valid. Thanks for reviewing.

PIppinfan1988 · 12 February 2008 · Chapter 11: An Infernal Behemoth From The Bowels Of Isengard

OH MY GOSH!!! I think I *would* die of suspense if there wasn't another update ahead of me, lol! Brilliant thinking of the hobbits -- and, of course, our two famous lads. :-) Excellent chapter! On to more...

Dreamflower · 12 February 2008 · Chapter 12: A Hundred Engines Laid End-To-End

Now, that's what I love to see: Merry and Sam let all their differences go and work together to rescue Pippin. When push comes to shove, there's no competition, only friendship. Poor Pip--broken leg, hurt back! I loved his conclusion that because he hurt all over, he must have done something either brave or stupid--like stabbing a troll, maybe? But the magnificent machine finally proved its worth, and gave its all to save Pippin. And of *course* Merry would rather have his magnificent cousin!

Author's reply

Well what else could we expect of a hobbit machine? Thanks for the review, new chapter up now and more to follow.

Katherine-The-Crowned · 12 February 2008 · Chapter 12: A Hundred Engines Laid End-To-End

Yay! I'm so glad they got to Pippin! I think this is one of my favorite chapters. Sorry that I can't say why that is, it just is. Great Job!

Author's reply

Well I'm guessing that you love to see brave and resourceful hobbits, throwing themselves into danger. There's more now, but not so much danger, except for Pippin getting a severe attack of nursing! Thanks for reviewing.

Andrea · 12 February 2008 · Chapter 12: A Hundred Engines Laid End-To-End

"Did I do something stupid or brave?" "Both" LOL!!! I'm glad that the machine could be used to rescue Pippin. It's really a shame that it is now buried under all that debris. But Merry is right! With Pippin around there is no need for further excitement ;-)

Author's reply

Such a shame - but perhaps for the best. Thanks for reviewing - new chapter up now!

shirebound · 12 February 2008 · Chapter 12: A Hundred Engines Laid End-To-End

"Did I do something stupid or brave?" Pippin is capable of causing more excitement on his own than a hundred engines laid end-to-end What a fun story! *applauds*

Author's reply

Oh but it doesn't end here! Thanks for reviewing - new chapter up and more to follow!

PipMer · 11 February 2008 · Chapter 11: An Infernal Behemoth From The Bowels Of Isengard

Oh mercy, Llinos! What a cliffhanger that was? What has happened to our beloved Pip? This certainly kept me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait until the next installment. Well done!

Author's reply

He fell through the floor. Those hobbits should know better than to build 2 storey buildings! New chapter up now - thanks for reviewing.

cookiefleck · 11 February 2008 · Chapter 11: An Infernal Behemoth From The Bowels Of Isengard

I figured the machine was going to figure into the rescue, but using it to spray water hadn't occurred to me. Brave/smart Pippin in this chapter!

Author's reply

No I must admit I wouldn't have thought of that either. It's amazing sometimes how someone so daft can be so clever! Thanks for reviewing - new chapter up now.

Grey Wonderer · 10 February 2008 · Chapter 11: An Infernal Behemoth From The Bowels Of Isengard

("It's a genuine steam vapour spindle activated vegetation dissection and lubrication apparatus! There should be a good pump and hosepipe on board.")I loved hearing the name of it again. Dwarves just know these things don't they? Oh, and this was priceless! ("Pippin!" Merry's face lit up with excitement. "For once, you're actually right.) Poor Sam. Folks are always making him get into things that he doesn't trust. Boats, Steam vapour spindle activated ect. And I think Matt should be the new town fire chief and get to keep the steam vapour spindle activated vegetation dissection and lubrication apparatus thing. (The dwarves, however, who had been attempting to form a wobbly dwarven pyramid to the upper floor, but were beaten back by the flames from the thatch,) I would have loved to have seen the Dwarven pyramid! This is my favorite line this time and that is really saying something as there are so many grand ones to chose from. (Mentally closing his eyes, but for safety's sake actually keeping them wide open, Pippin made a mighty leap across the chasm that separated him from the womenfolk.) But that is just something that only Pippin could work out and do. Now, I have to wait until tomorrow to see if Pip's all right? I don't know who I'll manage that! You are devilish with this cliffie!

Author's reply

Dwarves do know many things - and of course they devised this snappy name. You think Matt doesn't have enough to do - what with smithing and talking to dwarves? I've never seen a dwarven pyramid (except here) but it could be a winning act. At least it would have been if they weren't all drunk! Don't you ever mentally close your eyes? I do it all the time, especially when I'm driving. But if you didn't notice then that's fine! Whoops sorry, made you wait 2 days. Still it's there now. Thanks for reviewing.

colbysgurl · 10 February 2008 · Chapter 11: An Infernal Behemoth From The Bowels Of Isengard

You just love those cliff hanger endings don't you? *g* But at least Pippin had an idea that Merry liked, using the engine for putting out the fire.

Author's reply

Well of course I do - don't you? *g* Besides I have to keep you coming back for more. Thanks for reviewing - at least it wasn't too long a wait - new chapter up now.

colbysgurl · 10 February 2008 · Chapter 10: A Balrog Is Come!

ah hah! So I was right then! Lol....I doubt very much that Pippin is going to be very impressed when he hears exactly what happened. Very happy to see an update here!

Katherine-The-Crowned · 10 February 2008 · Chapter 11: An Infernal Behemoth From The Bowels Of Isengard

For some reason I was under the impression that the machine had destroyed the Green Dragon or something, but I dont know why I thought that. It has been a tricky thing for everyone to reach those two hobbits. Again, I hope everyone comes out alright. Hope you don't mind if I review the story here, rather than fanfiction.net. Update soon!

Author's reply

Now that would have been a good trick. I don't mind where you review the story - I appreciate all feedback, so thanks! New chapter up.

Andrea · 10 February 2008 · Chapter 11: An Infernal Behemoth From The Bowels Of Isengard

I knew that machine could be useful! A watertank, a hose and a pump - that makes a fine fire engine! But what a cliffhanger! Please update soon.

Author's reply

Well why didn't anyone else think of that? You see Pippin does get some good ideas! Thanks for reviewing. Your fingers can take a rest - next chapter up.

Dreamflower · 10 February 2008 · Chapter 11: An Infernal Behemoth From The Bowels Of Isengard

Oh mercy! I'm away from a computer for a day and come back to *Two* exciting chapters! And suddenly this has turned from a rollicking comedy into a nail-biting adventure! I love the way everyone sobers up and pulls together once the emergency is discovered--it's very wonderful to see how brave and resourceful hobbits are in a pinch--especially our Master and Thain! And now I've got to wait to see how Pippin is rescued!

Author's reply

Ah well, that serves you right for deserting your computer - what were you thinking of? They are doing quite well so far - what will befall our heroes now though? Thanks for reviewing - the next (hopefully cuticle biting this time) chapter is up!

shirebound · 10 February 2008 · Chapter 11: An Infernal Behemoth From The Bowels Of Isengard

"No!" Pippin slipped his leg over his own pony and jumped down. "Think! We could use the Engine! It's not just for cutting grass – it's got a great big water tank and a hose!" Brilliant! It's so wonderful that the dwarves are there to help, and to see the clever and brave hobbits at work. But... another cliffhanger! :O

Author's reply

Hobbits are brave and clever - but dwarves come in handy too. Thanks for reviewing - next chapter imminent!
