Fantasia · 2 July 2008 · Chapter 16: The Green Knight's Esquires

So glad that Tamin is safe, I was so worry about him, the master play-room really seem scary. Poor girl too, you just can imagine all the abuse that she has taken and how they just kill her, I have the image of her, with her pinned hands now stuck in my head now, so much despair… there is definitively something rotting in Esgaroth... Good that we have some action and we have few kills, Goodness, I want all them dead...Tamin has good potential for being a Knight, and I just love Bandoras, valiant and gallant, and furious with Tamin but with compassion too, a great Knight. Dwarves? I thought that they were none of them n Esgaroth, but I'm grateful for their help, and of course, more people to help Legolas. Can’t wait for more, I'm really getting obsessive with this story, you are a GREAT writer, thanks and post soon. Oh! Just love Tamin thanking declaration to the dwarves, so histrionic, as you said.

Author's reply

Thank you for the review, Fantasia! Yes, Bandobras has turned into a great knight, hasn't he? Now, if he can just keep Tamin alive long enough for the boy to win HIS spurs, they should make a truly ferocious pair. I just updated, so have fun with the next chapter!

Nieriel Raina · 1 July 2008 · Chapter 16: The Green Knight's Esquires

You, my dear, are VERY fortunate. If you had not saved Tamin, I would have had to inflict serious damage! Bad enough what you did to Legolas. *glares* I was very sad the young girl died. It is horrific the things she hinted at that had happened to her. I'm rather glad most went over Tamin's head. And how compassionate he is to want to help her. This is a sad tale on many levels. So much corruption and abuse.... *shudders* Have I mentioned how much I love how you write dwarves? Love the two new OCs. I look forward to getting to know them better, and hope they provide some relief from the tension. It would also be nice if they have a whole passel of dwarves stashed somewhere to extricate Legolas and company swiftly. You still have me on pins and needles. No regrets so far. *grin*

Author's reply

Hello, NiRi! Can you believe it's taken me this long to get things moving again? I am SO looking forward to school resuming; then I won't be spending so much time in the car with my Munchkin. And quit glaring at me; you know I love my characters and won't be mean to them. *cough* Well, not TOO mean. *ducks*

Nieriel Raina · 28 June 2008 · Chapter 15: Renna of Dale

Oh, I'm such a bad beta! I didn't review this yet. Have I mentioned I both anticipate and dread the next chapter? *grin* Thankfully, I've managed to grow my nails out enough to have something to chew. This chapter...*shudders* While extremely creepy, is so skillfully woven, the reader cannot take their eyes away. The whole time I was inwardly screaming for Legolas to resist, to get OUT, and spellbound to see what would happen if he couldn't. I'm very glad he did, though I fear this is far from the worst it will get. I'm sure we're not where near the conclusion of this story and you LOVE to drag your readers along, building to the final climax. (bad pun) While very dark, this story is one of your best. You have incorporated all your talent into one tale, from humor, letters, angst, drama, and horror. Brilliant, my friend, just brilliant!

Naledi · 25 June 2008 · Chapter 15: Renna of Dale

I've only just caught up on this story, having only recently discovered it. It's one of the most chilling things I've read in a long time. I'm seriously worried for Legolas. Both Renna and the Master seem to have an evil effect on him. I was almost shouting at him to tell him not to go to Renna! But she clearly has him sussed and knows that he wouldn't be able to resist a damsel in distress.

Calenlass Greenleaf · 24 June 2008 · Chapter 15: Renna of Dale

Couple of months ago, NiRi recommended your writings to me. I didn't take the time to read much of them, however. That is, until now. I had no idea what I was missing. :) This certainly was a creepy chapter. But eerie as it was, it was also mesmerizing. Poor Legolas. You just had leave him at a cliffhanger, did you not? No matter. I'll be following story closely from now on. ~Calenlass

Fantasia · 24 June 2008 · Chapter 15: Renna of Dale

I have to read this chapter several times before review it. I don't know what to say, I was terrified and almost screaming to Legolas-Get out of there!!! I can see the connection between his dreams and this sex/almost rape scene: the serpent, the crawling, and the ring...I'm really worried for Thranduil, Is he under her control? Poor Queen...and the elves, will they go to war with the dwarves? I can not trust Thranduil anymore...what power this woman has? Now, is she wearing a wit? I didn't see that coming...Well, I least he knows now that he can not trust Anyone in that town...I just wondering what Legolas will find when he finally gets to his Father Halls. And now Tamin and Bamdoras are missing, and I don't like the looks that Malbeach was given to Tamin...and I believe that you implied that he is interest in his own sex...Please, update soon and have all those people decapitated and killed (getting a little bloody here and I mean the bad people, of course...) I wish to know what happened to Legolas's elves and especially Durfinwen..(Hope that Renna doesn't want Durfinwen's hair to replace her wit…sorry, it is a bad joke…) Great chapter as ever, and please, update soon. Thanks

eucalyptus · 24 June 2008 · Chapter 15: Renna of Dale

Oh, thank God. That was disturbing. I'm not sure my own stomach could have handled much more, let alone his. I have to compliment the smaller things you do so well -- the coldness of her fingers, the wig, the ring of Oropher, the snake imagery, I could go on. Perhaps Tamin and Bandobras will be reunited with Durfinwen(!) and the other elves. That might be enough to lessen my fear for their safety, though perhaps I should not forget that Bandobras is a knight!

CandissD · 23 June 2008 · Chapter 15: Renna of Dale

nooooo! Not Tamin and Bandy! (This chapter was great - the suspense is killing me! :D)

Author's reply

Yes, Tamin and Bandy! But don't worry - Bandobras is a Took, after all! Thanks for the review!

Robinscat · 23 June 2008 · Chapter 15: Renna of Dale

Ok, this chapter took a couple of times to read. Very intense. What was Legolas thinking? Going to a married women's rooms? and then onto an Inn to meet with her, unchaparoned? I could just hear the scandal that would ensue if he was caught there. Legolas' dream came back to me when I read the scene in the inn. Snakes and blood, "Crawl, harlot, crawl" oooh! creepy. And I am concerned with his vomitting blood. Something is seriously wrong. This is one of your best stories yet. But I have a question for you. What does shirt-lifter mean? quote " but if he is no shirt-lifter, I am a Hobbit" My mind went into the gutter and stayed there. But I may be totally of base here. Anxiously awaiting your next chapter. Thank you for sharing your gifts. Robin

Author's reply

I'm glad you're enjoying it, Robin, in spite of the creepiness. I don't know WHAT is wrong with my Muse. She's gone all Anne Rice on me. Your guess as to the meaning of the word "shirt-lifter" is quite likely correct. You can't really blame Legolas for thinking Malbeach's interests lie with the same sex, considering the way he spoke to Legolas during the feast! Thanks for the review!

Ceren Cae · 22 June 2008 · Chapter 15: Renna of Dale

That. Was. Amazing. Wow! That chapter was so intense; absolutely brilliant. I'm glad we at least know not to trust Renna. But, Oh! Poor Legolas! Your imagery is so great, and your characters are so real. I anxiously await your next chapter.

Author's reply

Thank you! I've had several people tell me they've stopped reading my updates after dark. It's nice to know that I can adequately channel what my inner muse is telling me. I'm working on the next chapter. Thank you for the review!

Emily · 22 June 2008 · Chapter 15: Renna of Dale

I KNEW she was no good!! But I didn't expect you to go there. I'm actually a little too horrified to write a decent review. I think I'm just gonna go find my dog and give him a few hugs. Dear me. I'm not worried for Thranduil anymore. I'm terrified. And a big "uh-oh" for Bandobras and Tamin! You know you have to update very quickly after this, don't you? You just have to!

Author's reply

Your instincts told you right! Sometimes the victims are just as abusive as their abusers. Go hug your dog; I'm sure he'll appreciate it. And yes, I'm going to try to update as quickly as possible! Sadly, it is "show season" and I am spending WAY too much time at the barn ... Thanks for the review!

Jay of Lasgalen · 22 June 2008 · Chapter 15: Renna of Dale

*Sigh* I always thought Legolas was sensible - what on earth possessed him to meet with Renna in such a place, without escorts or witnesses? And what is her power and hold over him? (I'm guessing it's some drug hidden in her false hair!)

Author's reply

No sleep for a month, worried about his people, some strange power exerting control over him ... well, he was a touch impetuous to begin with; let's just assume he's not thinking clearly, and give him the benefit of the doubt! And kudos for picking up on the hair ... but, *shhh*!!! Thanks for the review!

Dreamflower · 22 June 2008 · Chapter 15: Renna of Dale

Oh my word! Poor Legolas! But he's strong enough to resist! At least now one thing has been revealed: Renna is not just her husband's "poor victim", at any rate! Of course we still do not know what she *is*, other than some sort of imposter... And I can't help thinking that the water is a clue of some sort. Tamin and Bandobras? Well, one thing I do know--small though he may be, Sir Bandobras is a hobbit and a Took. He'll do everything in his power to protect young Tamin. Let's just hope he doesn't have his head cracked again!

Author's reply

Let's just hope he doesn't have his head cracked again! If you ask me, it's Legolas who needs his head cracked. The impetuous idiot; he reminds me of what trinki_spinki's hubby described as St. Peter's philosophy: "Ready, Shoot, Aim!" I'm glad you still have faith in Sir Bandobras. Never send an Elf to do a Took's job!

Fantasia · 11 June 2008 · Chapter 14: The Lord of the Feast

I don't know how you do it, but every time that I read a new chapter I get more scared. This is a great story; I can’t wait for a new chapter. I'm so worry for everybody, now Dúrfinwen is missing, I was afraid of that from the beginning…. I don't like any person in Esgaroth, no his master and no his wife, don't like her at all. And what are they doing to Legolas? Luckily Gimli is immune to whatever they are using, drugs? Well, I’m worry for him too, they don’t like dwarves… I think that Legolas got himself in a very bad situation, what can he do without a powerful army behind his back? The dwarves are getting blamed of all those crimes; things are getting very bad over there. I just hope that the messenger dispatched to Ithilien with the news, make Galas to going to Mirkwood along with all his army and Faramir's too, because I can not believe that they will not help, Faramir knows that something is wrong and I doubt that they wont act, well, one can always dream... As I said before, waiting for more...you are an amazing writer...

Author's reply

Hi, Fantasia ... thank you for your review. It's nice to know people are interested enough that they're speculating about the plot. As far as Galas and Faramir showing up ... well, you'll just have to wait and see, now, won't you? Thanks!

Emily · 10 June 2008 · Chapter 14: The Lord of the Feast

I love Gimli. I really think that you've done the best Gimli I've ever read. He's such a wonderful companion, wise and powerful in his own right. How he is so cunning and non-offensive in getting Legolas away from Malbeach...how he scolds Legolas for following Malbeach, but then is instantly ready to help Legolas away. What a friend! LOVE him. I still don't trust Renna. She certainly received her share of insults from her husband here, but I still think she's up to no good. I would feel very badly for her did I not remember Legolas's dreams of the mortal woman with immortal eyes. For her sake I hope that the woman from Legolas's dreams is someone else, but until all is revealed, I don't trust her. I can't even comment on all that you revealed here--Malbeach's impugning the Dwarves, the Elves gone missing, the not-so-subtle insults directed at Renna. I hope Kaimelas learned some things--snooping around the stables, was it? I hope he doesn't get into trouble. I don't think Malbeach is a fellow to be trifled with. This keeps getting darker and mysterious. Looking forward to more!

Author's reply

Hi, Emily! I'm glad you like "my" Gimli - Peter Jackson reduced him to the repugnant role of Comic Relief; I hated that. I wanted to reflect the Professor's view of Dwarves that he had presented in the Hobbit. And, of course, to please Sheraiah and my beta, Nieriel Raina! Malbeach and Renna are a puzzle, aren't they? Hold on to your hat; things are only going to get more complicated! Thanks for the review!

CandissD · 10 June 2008 · Chapter 14: The Lord of the Feast

Ah the plot thickens :) Can't wait for more!

Author's reply

Your waiting is over! Thanks for reviewing.

Dreamflower · 10 June 2008 · Chapter 14: The Lord of the Feast

Oh my word! This is getting creepier and creepier. The Master is definitely a slimy piece of work. Trying to accuse the Dwarves of carrying off Legolas' people? And Legolas' reactions are more than a little disturbing--thank goodness for Gimli! And he's right--he needs Bandobras right now! As for the wife--I am puzzled by her in the extreme! She's a real mystery, and I hope we'll get some more clues about her soon...

Author's reply

Yes, Dreamflower, Renna's a puzzle. I'm glad you're finding the story interesting enough to hope for more clues. Thanks for the review!

Raksha The Demon · 9 June 2008 · Chapter 9: The Head on the Pike

I love the Faramir/Legolas interaction here. So many stories make Legolas the lifelong friend of Aragorn starting before Aragorn even knew his true identity; and forget that Legolas and Faramir would have worked closely together to bring peace and prosperity to Ithilien. You've developed a very credible circle of friendship between Faramir, Eowyn, their children and Legolas, which enriches your stories.

Raksha The Demon · 9 June 2008 · Chapter 14: The Lord of the Feast

This Malbeach is a major disaster, isn't he! Sounds like he's somehow drugging Legolas. Somebody needs to introduce Malby to the bladed end of a dwarf-axe...

Author's reply

"Malby," LOL. Giving that slimy jerk a cutesy nickname seems very oxymoronic. Thanks for the review!

Alison H · 7 June 2008 · Chapter 13: The Joust

This was a very, very creepy episode,Rouret.I didn't know what to make of Lady Renna at all.She seems terrified of her husband one minute then she's laughing with her ladies while Knights are being dragged away. Also, what is she doing to Legolas? Why is he feeling so out of sorts and what is the cause? It's very strange but very, compelling. This is a great mystery but I'm very nervous about the chapters ahead. At least Gimli is there to protect Legolas, and he will, and Tamin, Kaimalas and Bandy will do their utmost to help him.I can't wait for the next chapter! Ali

Author's reply

Hi, Ali! I'm glad you're enjoying the mystery! (And yes, that means I'm not going to answer any of your questions yet!) Lady Renna is a new sort of character for me, and I'm finding her a challenge. I hope you enjoy how things play out! And as always, thank you for reading and reviewing! Le Rouret

Holly · 6 June 2008 · Chapter 13: The Joust

I am completely enthralled by this story. Just when I was sure the Lady would be the villain, it gets all turned around! I can't wait to see where it's headed!

Author's reply

Thank you, Holly! I'm glad you're enjoying it! Le Rouret

Emily · 3 June 2008 · Chapter 13: The Joust

“For his esquire, and the honor of women with no honor of their own, I shall take him down, Gimli!” Good for Legolas. At first I could not understand Malbeach's reasons for such a puny tourney at this point and time. What did he have to gain by pushing Legolas so quickly to joust just so that two of his knights would be defeated? But I think--and don't laugh at me if I'm horribly off--but I think it all centers on the dubious Lady Renna. I thought it strange that both knights should so actively hate Legolas, but the second knight's inappropriate comments tipped me off. I think I see that Malbeach wanted to disgrace at worst, kill at best, two men who had outgrown their usefulness. Renna is involved in a very indecent way, I am sure, and I am very concerned over Legolas's lightheadedness around her. It's a good thing Kaimelas begged such a boon from Legolas, and I am relived that Gimli, Bandy, and Kaimelas are stubborn enough to hold Legolas to it. My concern for Eryn Lasgalen is rising by the moment, and I cannot wait to see where you continue to take this story.

Author's reply

Hello, Emily! Now, you don't really think I'm going to either confirm or deny your suspicions, do you? Not even my beta, Nieriel Raina, knows where I'm going with this. But I'm tickled pink you're taking the effort to analyze it! Your review was a pleasure to read; thank you! Le Rouret

Nieriel Raina · 3 June 2008 · Chapter 13: The Joust

Another brilliant, if dark chapter. I'm thoroughly on the edge of my seat terrified of what will come next, but too engaged to look away. I love the horses. You have applied your equine knowledge well to writing these characters. I love them almost as much as the main characters! Once again, Gimli shines. No matter how bad things get, I hope I can count on some dwarven justice. Not sure what to think about the lady. Could be an act. I think I lean towards that more than her being a victim. Great chapter. I look forward to seeing 14!

Author's reply

Thanks, NiRi! Now I want to go back through my other stories, pre-Spike, and tweak all those horses' characters too. I'm sure I could do much more with Hatchet, now that I've got a little equine experience under my belt. (Just wait 'til we get Spike properly trailered to Mo's ... I'm petrified.) Chapter 14 is almost ready for you to beta. You are WONDERFUL!!!

CandissD · 3 June 2008 · Chapter 13: The Joust

The suspense! Can't wait to read more. Tamin is always a shining light in the midst of everything. He was so cute in this chapter when he was talking to Legolas. I hated that he had to see those men being so horrible to the horses. :( Here's hoping Legolas will get to the root of the problem and clean house in Esgaroth!

Author's reply

Thank you, Candiss! I always enjoy looking at Legolas and his adventures through the eyes of innocence, which is why I love writing characters like Bandobras, Fastred, and Tamin. Sadly, each one of those eventually grows up, and poor Legolas is left with a bunch of adults ... Thanks for reading and reviewing. Chapter 14 should be up soon! Le Rouret

Dreamflower · 3 June 2008 · Chapter 13: The Joust

Oh my word! Something is seriously nasty in Esgaroth. I'm wondering about the lady. From Legolas' dreams, I'd been supposing her a sorceress and behind the trouble, but her reactions to her husband make me wonder now if she is not as much a victim as those others around him. And what has happened to fill Esgaroth with such evil-spirited people? The mystery has deepened greatly. But I can't fail to mention how much the talk of Sam pleased me! I love it when Bandobras speaks of the Shire and his friends and family there, and when Legolas and Gimli remember the Quest! (By the way--did you get your email about the MEFAs? This story, as well as "The Misty Month of May" have both been nominated! I'm your liaison, so if you wish to take part this year, please email me: aelfwina at gmail dot com)

Author's reply

Hey, Dreamflower! Yes, I got the nominations; my world in RL is a little overwhelming right now, but I've completed the forms and emailed you. I'm sorry for how long it took (and immensely flattered to be nominated). I love throwing snippets of the Ring Quest in the stories, just to remind people that yes, although this is the Green Knight universe, it is but a pale shadow compared to Tolkien's greater work. Sam was my favorite Hobbit, and I imagine Bandy would relate to him and his tireless devotion to "Mister Frodo" than to his Uncle Pippin's impulsive decision to join the Tower Guard. Esgaroth is indeed an evil place, and filled with both victims and evil people ... but you're just going to have to wait to see which side of the fence Renna falls on! Le Rouret
