Telling this from the point of view of an oblivious Vorondil Sr. was very effective as well as affecting (*g*). I admit my eyes started prickling at his continued concern about this child that somehow tugged at his heart and memory, and when - what he didn't know - his brother and his parents entered, the prickling was joined by some sniffling. Very well-written, Fiondil!
P.S.: I had had to stop reading ca. half a year ago somewhere near the end of the Progress in Tol Eressëa, and was surprised I had to backtrack only one or two chapters to get back into the flow. Though I will admit I was heartily glad you had added a character list in the meantime ;-)!

Hi Imhíriel. Thank you. I'm glad you liked how this chapter was written. And I'm glad you are able to get back into the story. I look forward to more reviews from you.

Well done! I'm sorry it's taken me so long to review, but I've been on vacation, so it's been a nice surprise to catch up and find Glorfindel returning to Middle Earth. I love the way this one ends. I particularly like the way Glorfindel puts Elrond's needs first above even Gil-Galad. Will there be a part 3 to this story? I'd love to see how you handle the remainder of the Second Age. Again, great job!
Author's reply
Hi Little Mouse. I'm glad you loved the way the story ended. At this time there are no plans for a part 3 although I hope to write an occasional piece about Glorfindel in Middle-earth and perhaps eventually write about his return to Aman. In the meantime, I have my Darkening story which is all set to go and I will begin posting that this week. So you have something to look forward to. *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Hi Fiondil,
Thank you so much for this wonderfull story. It has been a long and wild ride and I am sorry to see it end here, but I can't wait for your Darkening story. I do hope you won't abandon the EI universe and will maybe some day show us Glorfindel's adventure's in Endore and perhaps his return to Aman??
I have been reading and rereading both EI 1 and 2 from the beginning and am already starting to suffer from withdrawl symptoms *grin* Keep up the good work because I for one can't wait to read more.
Hugs Selene
Author's reply
Hi Selene. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing and letting me know how much you've enjoyed this story and that you are looking forward to my Darkening story. And not to worry. I have long thought to write a story about Glorfindel's return to Aman as well as other stories in the EI-verse. Once I get the Darkening story up and on its way, then I will see about other stories about Glorfindel and the gang. I left plenty of space for gap-fillers at the end of EI-2, as you may have noticed. *grin*

Hi Rick,
Yes, it's finally done. I'm glad you enjoyed the story so much. As for what happens next, as promised, I will begin posting my Darkening story beginnng next week. This week I am posting two Loom stories. One is already up and the other will be up on Friday.

I have thoroughly enjoyed both Glorfindel stories. what will I read now that they are done? will you write (please?) the tales of the second age leading up to the death of Gil-Galad? That's a huge hole in the tales. and, forgive my greediness, it should be a good, long tale. again, many thanks.
Author's reply
Hello walkerskye. Thank you so much for letting me know how much you have enjoyed my stories about Glorfindel. I appreciate you taking the time to do so. I do not know if I will write tales about the second age in Middle-earth leading up to Gil-galad's death, but you never know what the Muse will inspire one to write. In the meantime, there is my Darkening tale to look forward to and while it won't be quite as long as Elf, Interrupted, it'll be long enough, I promise.

Hi Fiondil,
I just want to let you know that EI has been a beautiful journey through the universe that you have created, and that I have enjoyed it to the fullest. I want to say thank you for sharing your colorful tales with such dedication (How many years has it been since you began? I can't even remember).
Needless to say, you can bet that I will be eagerly awaiting your darkening story.
Much applause...
Author's reply
Hello ninquestilmen. Thank you for letting me know how much you've enjoyed reading EI. I am glad you found them beautiful and colorful. I first started posting on SoA in January 2006, so it's been over 4 years now. Hard to believe it's only been 4 years. *grin* I am glad you are eagerly looking forward to reading my Darkening story. Wow! All I can think of is how did you keep track of them all!? That is a total of 259 charecters, including Valar, Maia and other beings. How did you come up with names for them all? I know, I know lots and lots of research!
Froday Morning Huggs,
Lynda
Author's reply
Many of the characters (canon and original) are also found in the first book of "Elf, Interrupted", so I just copy/pasted that list into a new list and made necessary changes and added new characters to it as I went along in the story. As for the names.... well, as you guessed, lots and lots of research. *grin* It's part of the fun (for me) of creating new characters, giving them apppropriate and linguistically correct names. I deplore people who give characters names that 'sound' and 'look' Elvish but are completely made up. And sometimes, I just steal the names from minor characters taken from the Histories or from the Appendices to LOTR. It's a lot simpler. *grin*

There it was: the notice giving the status of this story as Complete. *sniffles, dabs at eyes*
At least now I can put the whole story on my Bebook (once I have converted it to the format I want, that is.) And I am pondering whether I should use the picture of the blue Morpho butterfly I used for "cover picture" on EI1 or go looking for something else.
Author's reply
Yes, it's official. I am presently re-editing the entire story (both books)and I should be done by the Labor Day weekend, which, here in the States, is the first weekend of September, so you should wait until after 6 September to put the whole story on your Bebook. And I think the butterfly is very appropriate as a 'cover picture' for this story. *grin*

What a great way to end this wonderful story. Glorfindel seemed so mature and at ease once he got off the ship; ready to take on his duties come what may.
I especially loved the little scene between Namo and Glorfindel and the sword exchange; very moving. I take it Eonwe was somewhere in the background recording every word?!
Thanks for taking me along on this journey of Glorfindel, Finrod and everyone else. I look forward to your next story.
Author's reply
Hi Ces. Thank you. I'm so glad you liked how the story ends. Glorfindel has had 685 years since between accepting his mission to come to Middle-earth and actually going, so it's no wonder that he is more mature and at ease here compared to how he was even in the previous chapter.
I am glad you liked the sword exchange scene. I think that is a lot of people's favorite in this chapter. I'm sure Eönwë was somewhere around at the time. *grin*
Thank you for joining me on this wonderful journey with Glorfindel, Finrod and all the others. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review and I am glad to hear you are looking forward to my next major story, which I will begin posting a week from this coming Monday.

So the time has come for Glorfindel to go to Middle-Earth and to part from his family. I hoped we would get a bit about Finrods wedding and so on. Though I liked the scene when he meets Elrond for the first time.
I wonder if Eonwe recorded the oaths at the sword-changing-scene.
Author's reply
We will see Finrod's wedding and other such tales in separate one-shots and short multi-chapter stories, Hel. Just couldn't fit everything into this one. I'm pretty sure Eönwë realized that those particular oaths needn't be recorded. *grin* I'm glad you liked the final scene. Thanks for letting me know.

Well I just checked on here to see if there was anything to read and discovered that you had posted a day early :) I am going to miss these Glorfindel stories - ever since I found this one partway through I have read the new chapters as soon as I have been able to. I love your characterisations and have laughed and cried and everything else as the story has progressed. EI Part 1 is on my e-reader and this will be going on so I can read the whole story through again.
Now looking forward to your Darkening story and also to hopefully more snippets from the EI universe as the muse allows. I want to hear about Finrod & Amarie's wedding - and also peek in on Sador as Cano - oh and see how Olwen & Ingwion's wedding. Ok I just want more stories from this universe as I have become very attached to it over the last year or so.
Author's reply
Yeah, I ended up posting this last chapter early, although I will be posting the Character List and an Appendix tomorrow to complete the story. I have been re-reading the entire Elf, Interrupted story myself from the very beginning and making some minor (and sometimes not so minor) corrections in the text. I am now in the middle of the second book and plan to finish with the editing by Labor Day. You may want to reload Elf 1 onto your e-reader so you have the latest version. If you wait until after Labor Day to do it, both books will be ready.
I hope to have some additional stories from the EI universe, but in the meantime, I hope you enjoy reading the Darkening story when I begin posting it later this month.
Thanks again for reading and reviewing this very long epic, Arwen. I've enjoyed your reviews and look forward to hearing from you again.

Well, it's over now. I have been following this for a while (somewhere from the latter half of the second part, most likely from the moment Glorfindel met that maia and his dog in the coastline) without leaving a single review, so it's best to leave it now!
Thank you for this great (and a very long) story! I liked following Glorfindel through all this, the council was interesting and the interactions between the elves were enjoyable. At first, there were so many OCs that it was difficult to follow, but reading most of the first EI helped somewhat :). You know, this story is a little addictive, after reading a couple of chapters you just have to read more and keep waiting for the new chapters... not that I'm complaining about it!
It's very difficult to comment everything in one review. The story was simply great. However, wouldn't it be nice to see the meeting between Glorfindel and Elrond from Glorfindel's perspective, perhaps in Vairë's loom? I'm looking forward to the possible new stories, and thank you for writing this one.

Sorry about not reviewing for a few days – the chapters have merited reviews, but I haven’t really been up to it. A piece of advice for you, Fiondil: Avoid getting an ear infection – they are painful and uncomfortable, and when your ear gets better, your stomach will act up because of the antibiotics!
So now it is all over. I am feeling quite sniffly about that. It has been a long and sometimes chaotic journey along with Glorfy and his friends, including the Valar and Maiar (especially the sorely tried Námo).
In Reunions part 2 I wasn’t really all that surprised at some of the characters being reunited with newly Reborn kin – the real surprise there was who the reborn were. And young Irmondil is of course cute as a button!
The Rainbow Bridge – I suppose you sto... ahem, borrowed that from Norse mythology? ;-)
So now Finrod has to say goodbye to Glorfindel for a long time – but I am certain his many other Reborn friends will rally round and prevent him from moping too much. And hopefully Tirion will still be standing when they have done so. And speaking of damage, I found the descriptions of the safety precautions when Finrod was tutoring Glorfindel in using Songs of Power quite amusing. BTW, did Glorfy follow Finrod’s advice about packing?
I definitely liked Glorfindel’s answer to Námo’s query of whether he was ready. :-)
I wonder if anybody has the temerity to actually ask Glorfindel “Are you _that_ Glorfindel – the Balrog Slayer?” after he arrived in Lindon? And it would be quite ... interesting, shall we say? to see Gil-Galad’s reaction to the arrival of a legend on his doorstep. And I suspect a number of jaws will hit the floor as that news spreads. :-)
Author's reply
Hi Sunny. Sorry to hear about the ear infection. I hope you're feeling better now.
I know a lot of people are feeling a bit sniffly now that this epic is over. But at least you know there are other stories to look forward to, especially the Darkening story.
I am glad you liked this chapter, especially little Irmondil and Glorfindel's answer to Námo's query. I'm sure that all of Finrod's friends and family got together and made sure that he was not moping for long. Whether Tirion (or any other part of Aman) survived is another matter. *grin*
It would be interesting to write about Gil-galad's reaction to Glorfindel's arrival and how Glorfindel deals with the incessant questions about Gondolin and the Balrog. Perhaps I'll write something about that for Vairë's Loom sometime. *grin*
Thanks so much for all your lovely and thoughtful reviews and the support and advice that you have given me throughout. It has been very much appreciated and words cannot adequately express my gratitude for all that you've done for me.

Awww...you little tinker Arthur, how dare you make me have tears in my eyes over my breakfast? You should take me tearing up as a huge compliment. Very few stories either original or fanfiction have had the power to do that.
I know you probably have other things on the drawing board, but I sincerely hope that we have not seen the last of the Adventures of Glorfindel. The Glorfindel in my stories owes a lot of his character and personality to yours.
I am so sad now that this lovely story has come to an end of sort. You do realise that if you don't expand on Glorfindel in Middle-earth I am going to hunt you down and give you the same fate that namo threatened Glorfindel with!
Author's reply
Tears at breakfast, Shemyaza! You old softy, you. *LOL* I am highly complimented and I thank you.
I do intend to continue writing about Glorfindel and the others, and perhaps I will even write about Glorfindel in Middle-earth, though not necessarily in any major epic story, but one never knows what the Muse has in store for one, so you never know. I do think I want to write Glorfindel/Elrond friendship stories, showing how their relationshhip developed over time and how, perhaps, that friendship might have sometimes conflicted (in Glorfindel's mind) with Glorfindel's oath to Eärendil to protect and guard Elrond and his family. I'm sure there must have been such times between them.
And as for your threat.... as Glorfindel would say, "You have to catch me first!" *LOL*
Anyway, thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate you taking the time to do so. I look forward to reading your comments to my Darkening story whenever you have the chance to leave a review.

It wasn't intentional, Lynda. I accidently clicked on 'publish' for this chapter when I thought I was clicking on 'preview' for the previous chapter. *grin* Decided it wasn't worth hiding and since the chapter was ready to be posted, I left it up. I will be posting the Character List on Friday just to complete the entire thing. I'm just checking it over to make sure it's correct.
I'm glad you enjoyed this story and I know how much you will miss Glorfi and everyone else, but we'll see them again, I promise, in one form or another. And I think you will enjoy Darkening. I'm afraid Glorfindel only has a cameo role in that story, but you will be seeing a lot of Finrod and Ingwion and much more of the three High Kings, Ingwë, Arafinwë and Olwë. That will hopefully satisfy many of my readers who are fans of these characters. *grin*

Atar Fiondil,
So it's the last chapter, except for the character list. I can hardly believe that EI is over...a rush of various emotions has been hitting me since I read the chapter this morning. I'm glad to see almost all the loose ends tied up; I think my favorite new character was Irmondil. He's so cute! I wonder what Veryandur would think of him?
(Random thought, I know!)
Of course, I loved Namo...don't I always? I think, though, my most favorite part of the chapter was Elrond, going out there every day and just *waiting* for something.
Tar-Ancalime...first Ruling Queen. Interesting. I don't know all that much about her, so I'm wondering if you'll write any more concerning her? Hmm...she doesn't sound like the nicest sort, but from what I read of her, she sounded rather proud and overbearing, so that seems quite accurate. Is the split between Elves and Edain already beginning, then? That's sad. :(
Mail from Elrond's Ada and Nana! Too bad it didn't come by Vingilot! Oh well, it might have part way? (I was just rereading "Starship", and have mail-by-Vingilot on the brain.)
Aha, and there's my next favorite Istari after Olorin! *grin* Of course, you know what *I* say happened to them. Insanity, but now I just can't help liking that scenario. *grin*
(In fact, I had Domino's last night, and I'm having leftovers for lunch. Chicken and olive? *offers to Atar Fiondil*)
"Metta", indeed, but now I have the Character List, and Vaire's Loom, and the Darkening to look forward to. So though I'm sad to see this end, I'm sure it hasn't *really* ended. Glorfi will be back.
(How could he not be back, since it's you, Atar Fiondil? *grin* And you love Glorfi.)
Hmm, I wonder if my reviews are changing any, when I have enough to say. They certainly seem to be different from my earliest reviews. (Well, for one, at first you weren't Atar Fiondil, and now you are :D) Am I still as bad as Glorfindel? *snicker*
Tye-melin and Eru bless,
Kaylee
*yelde indonyo to Atar Fiondil*
Author's reply
Hi Kaylee. I think your reviews have changed over time simply because you have, maturing into a young responsible woman. You have, after all, graduated from college. *grin*
Yes, Tar-Ancalimë reversed many of her father's policies concerning the elves. This I think can be safely seen as the beginning of Númenor's eventual downfall. She was a very willful woman and had little love for her father, hence her own policies. However, it will be another 1300 or so years before Númenor is destroyed and I doubt that even the Valar are aware at this time of the island's eventual fate.
Anyway, I want to thank you for all your lovely reviews. I always look forward to them. Thanks for being such a devoted reader of my stories. I hope you enjoy my next epic. *grin*

*grin* Wise of Manwë to make sure Ossë is not overdoing the storm. Glorfindel would most certainly *not* appreciate it if he did!
The lessons in Songs of Power were certainly a surprise, though I'm the first one to admit that Glorfindel needs to learn how to control his own power. We can't have him ending up in another dimension every time, after all! Though the security measures left me snickering and wondering if during the chase at the Ford of Bruinen in TA 3018 unclad Maiar were standing by to make sure he's not messing up? *grin*
Nice touch with the swords, and it explains why Glorfindel didn't have Aranna with him in the other story. And I like it how you had Elrond feeling that something was afoot and waiting at the berth for so long, as well as this first meeting between Glorfindel and Elrond. It will be great for Elrond to hear from the parents he never really knew, to know they are alive and well. And this will lay the foundation for a great friendship, no doubt.
And now I feel a bit sad, as this is the last chapter. I've only started reading this epic tale after 40 chapters were posted, but even so, it's been three and a half years during which I have been following the adventures of Glorfindel and his friends, and it has been a great ride. Though I have no doubt that I will enjoy the Darkening story and whatever you are going to post in the future, I will still miss this one and re-read it in its entirety as soon as I have time. So I think it's a great idea to post a few EI oneshots or short multi-chapter stories like the 'Diaries' with more snippets of the lifes of Glorfindel and the others when the muse cooperates; it would cut down on the withdrawal symptoms, and I'm sure I'd not be the only reader to appreciate it.
Anyway, thank you so very much for taking the time to write this wonderful, long story, for sharing it with us, for giving us such a wonderful universe to play in. I can't even begin to tell you how much I have enjoyed it and how much I appreciate all your hard work on this. You've not only brought many canon characters close to my heart, but many of your OC's as well, and I'm really going to miss them all without my weekly fix. Again, thank you!
Author's reply
Hi Kitty. Yes, Manwë doesn't need a seasick Glorfindel makes a mess on the floor. He'd never hear the end of it from Varda. *LOL*
I wouldn't be at all surprise if there weren't a few Maiar around keeping tabs on Glorfindel, but perhaps not. Perhaps Manwë just decided that for better or worse Glorfindel was on his own and would have to find his own way.
Glad you liked the scene with the swords. There is an upcoming Loom story where this particular sword is mentioned by Glorfindel. As for Elrond, I suspect that Someone was inspiring him to come to the harbor to wait for Glorfindel's arrival, though he was unaware of why. And we know that these two will be good friends as well as lord and devoted vassal.
I know a lot of people are feeling the same as you, Kitty, and I appreciate all your kind reviews and your support over these past few years. It has meant a great deal to me. I do indeed plan to write some EI one-shots and short multi-chapters but I hope until I get around to writing them you will enjoy the Darkening chapter where we will see many of the EI characters at a much younger and more innocent stage of their existence.
Thanks again for reading and reviewing.

Author's reply
Thanks utfrog. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review. I'm glad you loved the last paragraph. Thanks for letting me know.
Love that banter about being mysterious on purpose and the difference between fun and mischief. But what is it with Valar and mazes? They have way too much fun with these. And this one seems even odder than Námo's entrance maze, considering its purpose. Seems to be some sort of apparation (or teleportation) point to that infamous grove in Lórien - I take it it was the one in which Finrod confronted the Valar, as that had the same odd feeling.
Well, that welcome by the Valar was odd; it was too clear they were up to something, as usual. But Eärwen and Finrod left me snickering. Two tunics and three changes of underwear for a journey many years long, indeed! The friend I'm going on holiday with once told me she knows a woman who is known to turn up with up to 12 suitcases for a *week-long* holiday because she can't decide what to take! Eärwen can't be that bad, can she? ;-)
Nice to meet little Irmondil; he seems to be a sweet elfling. And I like the idea of Finrod playing babysitter :-)
Another nice touch was to have them all there for Eärnur's promotion; he deserved it, and I am glad he had his friends with him to celebrate. And what a celebration it became in the end!
Poor Ingwion wasn't taking that whole thing very well after figuring out what was going on. It must have been hard for him, hoping and yet not daring to hope to see his twin again (and yay, now we finally know *who* he was missing, after all these hints!) But he finally got his wish fulfilled, and so many others as well. These reunions were so lovely! It was great to see that so many of our favourite elves got at least some of their loved ones back *happy sigh*
I really like this way to bring the Reborn together with their families. Much better than before; they get a bit of time to get to know each other again, particularly when the memories aren’t there yet, without having to live together already. But most of all, the Reborn know there’s someone waiting for them and they will be eagerly welcomed. That should make them feel better; I remember the uncertainty Finrod and the others felt before they were released.
And I’m with Námo here: I just love happy endings.

Hi Kitty. I'm afraid the mazes are my fault. I'm a maze freak. I just love them and can't get enough of them. So it's been fun to have the Valar and their mazes. And yes, the grove is the same one Finrod had his confrontation with the Valar over Vorondil.
Have to laugh about the woman with the suitcase. I was on a Windjammer cruise once and there was a wedding on board and the bride was telling how when she told one of her bridesmaid that all she needed to bring to the cruise was a couple of changes of clothing, a swimsuit and a pair of sandals, the friend sighed with relief saying that that eliminated one whole piece of luggage just for her shoes. *LOL*
I'm sure Eärwen isn't that bad, but in a society where there is morning wear and evening wear (think of Victorian England), she might be excused for being a bit frustrated in what to pack.
I think Ingwion, who we saw had given up hope, was only just reclaiming it again and so this was very hard on him, not knowing if his fondest dream was coming true or not. Of course, it has and now we know the truth. And the manner of bringing the Reborn together with their families even before they are ready to join them outside Lórien is indeed an improvement over the other method. There is now less worry on the part of the Reborn that they will be accepted back into the good graces of their families.
Glad you liked this chapter, Kitty, and like you and Námo, I'm a real sucker for happy endings. *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing.
