Bilbo was listening closely and doing his homework all those years in Rivendell. Nice interweaving of the poem's elements; and another knows that special Presence as is needed. And now he accepts the comfort he chased away earlier, and having accepted it the fear of abandonment is dismissed as Finrod returns.
Lovely imagery.
Author's reply
I guess Bilbo was indeed, LOL. Thanks. I'm glad you loved the imagery and the interweaving of the poem's elements. And yes, another does know the special Presence as needed. I'm sure he'll be seeing things much differently from now on, or one can only hope. With Glorfindel you never know. *grin* Thanks for reviewing, Larner.

I've written a long review, but the server refuses it :-(
Nilmandra is looking into it to find out why it doesn't work, but it may take a bit of time - I hope to post it soon. For the moment I will only say that this chapter was fun!
Author's reply
Sorry about that Kitty. If you wish you can in the meantime send the review to me privately and then post it later once Nilmandra figures it all out. I'm glad to hear that you found the chapter fun. I enjoyed writing it.

Oh my, what a chapter! Even Atar is sometimes taken back by our Balrog Slayer? *laughter* Atar seems to be taking a more direct hand in the story. It's interesting to see your descriptions of him. Poor Glorfindel though. Seems he's being forced to grow up when he isn't quite emotionally mature yet. Its intersting to see his reactions. One never knows quite what to expect from him. *grin*
Glad Finrod burned off some steam. I'll have to remember that. When life gets unbearble, go for a long run! So I wonder if Manwe will be explaining now, or if Glory still isnt' ready yet.
Wonderful chapter! As always, I look forward to more!
Author's reply
Atar seems to be taking over, that's for sure. Not sure why. I thought I was doing pretty well, telling the story, but I refuse to argue. LOL
Glorfindel does have some growing up to do and maybe it's being pushed a little harder than necessary, but I know the Valar (and Atar) need to get him ready for when he goes to Middle-earth. We'll see in the next chapter how Manwë handles Finrod and Glorfindel's questions.
Glad you liked the chapter, NiRi. Thanks for reviewing.

Well, it's been a day of surprises, including SoA being down again, and now finding this so unexpectedly soon. (Not that I'm complaining, mind! But I wonder, is this speedy posting a response to reviewers’ nagging? j/k! j/k!)
"Glorfindel kept getting upset every time he thought about what the Valar had done to him (or what he thought they might have done to him)" -- *snicker*
I'm trying to imagine the conversation if Finrod and/or Manwë ever tell Glorfindel that they had decided Morgoth would reject Glorfindel as a gift. [Maybe they should actually make Morgoth the offer: I suspect it would give him nightmares (surely a Good Thing)! *mental picture of Glorfindel chasing Morgoth around the Void*]
"Glorfindel has had a rather rough first year since being released from Irmo’s care” -- Just a wee understatement there. I imagine no Reborn ever had a *worse* first year.
Ah: the water of Life. [And now that I've thought of that, I've got Argento's "Revelation of St. John the Divine" playing in my brain. *Many* years ago, our college choral group performed it, and it's one of the pieces of music that plays at the mention of appropriate phrases (and in learning that piece, I apparently memorized half the book of Revelation, so there are a plethora of possible phrases). Yes, I have a weird brain.]
Eärendil sailing Vingelot only occasionally: that's a new one, and it certainly makes sense astronomically. It's also infinitely preferable to the interpretation that he sails 24/7 and never sees Elwing at all. And once Middle-earth is no longer flat, he’d need to be in the sky all 24 hours (most of the year, anyway) to be visible across the entire planet, so this *really* makes sense. Of course, at this point the planet *is* still flat, but apparently the Valar added Venus before the world was changed. I’m wondering how the Valar gave Venus the quality of the Silmaril’s light, which presumably the “star” still had; I’m sure they must have had fun figuring that out.
Oh, *please* write a story about the party in Mandos to celebrate Glorfindel’s being Reborn!
It should be interesting when Ingwion and Glorfindel compare notes about their experiences, given how much was different.
I trust that while everyone was gone from the camp site, Beleg's fëa hasn't been wandering the Tenth Dimension looking for G and F. [Probably the Hunt hasn't happened yet.]
Re. Nahar possibly being one of the Maiar: I should have thought of that possibility, since I’ve read of that explanation for Manwë’s Eagles.
Well, past time to go brave the poison ivy and the evil mosquitoes and the *ticks* (!!), so I’ll just hope this is more coherent than I think it is, and post. You may not have many reviews till people find the new address, but at least I’ve given you a long one to puzzle over....
Author's reply
Actually, the world has always been round (go read my story Wars of the Valar). And I do plan to perhaps tell about Eärendil and Venus as a flashback in a later chapter of this story. We'll see.
As for the party in Mandos... you never know. LOL
We will see in a couple of chapters just what Beleg is up to. You are correct that we've gone back in time a few days but eventually we will come up to the moment when Beleg disappeared and all the timelines will merege.
Thanks for the review. It was nice to see it once I could get back on to SoA.

Actually, when you think of it, Finrod has had an easier transition after being re-born, he had his parants love and help and a familier place to live, plus time to come to terms with his life now. Glorfindel on the other hand has been dumped in at the deep end as it were, with no family to help him other than Finrod and Sador, plus things have been happening at an alarming rate with no time for him to aclimatise to them! Does he still have family in Aman? Let's hope Adar's little talk will help him and that Manwe's answers, those he is willing to give at this time, do also.
I see this site has been under attack again, what is it with these people, obviously thay do not have anything better to do. Do you think a little talk with Namo would help?
More please
Lynda
Author's reply
Glorfindel's first year has not been typical of most Reborn that's for sure. *grin* But his experiences will only make him greater and will help mold him into the great Elf-lord we see him as in LOTR.
I'm sure even a talk with Námo would not help... but maybe a visit to Morgoth in the Void?.... heehee

Once again your descriptions are stunning. You definitely have a way with words that I envy.
Glad to see Glorfindel managed to keep his humor and cheekiness intact with Atar! Who else but Lord Namo could help him do that, even if he wasn't there?!
Poor elf though. You can understand his whining; here he doesn't see something everyone else can see and then finds out that it was kept a secret from him. Of course he's puzzled as to why.
Finrod had to let all his anger and fear out. Glad to see it finally happen. The reunion between he and Glorfindel should be good.
And I'm glad Manwe and Namo are there to help them. I'm sure it will be an interesting conversation.
Ces
Author's reply
Thanks, Ces. I'm glad you liked this chapter and my descriptions. Glorfi is Glorfi whatever the situation, so being cheeky is par for the course for that ellon. LOL And of course we can all sympathize with him at the sense of confusion and betrayal and uncertainty that he's feeling right now. Hopefully, Manwë will be able to alleviate some of that soon so he can think about getting back to Aman. We'll see in the next chapter what Manwë has to tell them. Thanks for reviewing.

Well, this is an interesting turn of events. :) Namo is going to be very, very upset with Orome if Beleg shows up in his Halls again! I'm hoping that it's something like when Glorfindel slipped his leash and they'll be able to track him down really soon - I know the reborn's fea is different than that of the once born and he is so recently reborn that it doesn't seem like it would take too much for him to slip out of his body. At least that's what I'm hoping for! I can't wait for the next chapter.
Author's reply
I'm sure Oromë is going "Oops!" right about now. LOL We'll find out what happened to Beleg soon enough, but I assure you he hasn't died again. It's as you say, more like when Glorfindel slipped his leash. The next chapter will return to Finrod and Glorfidnel and pick up where we left them last.
Incredibly moving. What a wonderful picture of coming to God and letting him ease you of your burdens... especially the past which cannot be changed. Well done!! I wish I could better describe how I feel about this chapter, but words are failing me. :)
Author's reply
Thanks, Radbooks. I appreciate you at least trying. *grin* This is one of my favorite chapter of this tale so far and I'm pleased by the reaction it has evoked in my readers, at least those who review. I appreciate you taking the time to leting me know how much you enjoyed the chapter.

· Chapter 9: Playing at World's End
The Valar certainly do a lot of betting. The thought of them suffering the same punishment as the Elves is hilarious, and a good example. They can take punishment as well as applying it to others. And, they do it with humor.
Tari
Author's reply
The Elves are so young compared to the Valar and they are so 'new' to Arda that Námo especially enjoys trying to second guess which way they will go. It makes things more interesting for him and the other Valar and Námo enjoys "losing" every once in a while. Not sure if he lost this time on purpose or not. I suspect he did just so he would have an excuse to "play" with Aldundil and Vorondil. *grin*

· Chapter 8: A Discussion about Family
I have no doubt that the Valar would get frustrated with the Elves. More times than not I am sure.
How many problems will come forth due to Vorondil Herendilion’s release? I’m willing to bet there will be more problems with Calalindalë too. She’s hateful.
Nienna really has her hands full, but I have no doubt that she is up to the challenge. Drowning seems to be her choice way of threatening people. I love her humor.
Dear Vorondil is really having a rought time. I would say to him if I could, "Hang in there, child. Better days are ahead."
Tari
Author's reply
Vorondil Sr's release will probably prove very interesting for all concerned to say the least but it will be some time before anyone other than the Valar even know of it.
Nienna has had lots of experience dealing with Elves even worse off than Aldundil and Vorondil, so she's more than capable. I never could see her as spending all her time acting the Weeping Wilma. I just think she has more pity and compassion for the hurts of the world than the others. Glad you like her sense of humor. She's certainly in older sister mode here with Námo and Irmo. *grin*
And with all the Valar rooting for him, I think Vorondil will do fine.

Interesting idea that everything resonates with an echo of the original Song, and the Reborn resonate just a bit differently from everyone else.
*Besides, I have the feeling we’re not meant to actually go to where Glorfindel and Findaráto are, but to provide them with an anchor so they can come to us* -- That's intriguing. And are Glorfindel and Finrod supposed to come with or without their hröar? I had previously assumed Eärendil would somehow bring them back (he always seems to be my choice of deus ex machina) but I suppose if any two elves *could* manage to teleport between dimensions -- and survive the experience! -- it would be those two....
When Beleg's fëa shows up in the Tenth Dimension, I'm imagining Glorfindel screaming, "He's dead! He's dead!" Though last time, it was *Finrod* who was screaming -- and neither of them would remember the experience.
After this episode, I'm sure there's going to be another item on the list of Things Not To Let the Recently Reborn Get Involved In.
Any thoughts about Nahar being immortal or not? Huan obviously lived much longer than he should have; and who knows how long he'd have lived if not for Carcharoth? And was Oromë the only Vala who collected apparently-immortal animals? [Wondered about Nahar again recently because I was playing Canon Police on another site re. elves having immortal horses in Middle-earth.]
Author's reply
How exactly things will work out for Beleg, Finrod and Glorfindel will be revealed shortly, though not immediately, as we need to get back to Finrod and Glorfindel and see what they are up to. As to how they will react to seeing Beleg in fëa only.... well....
Anyway, I suspect that the Valar, Námo especially, are keeping that list at hand at all times. I think Námo is even considering writing a book: "The Care and Feeding of the Recently Reborn". LOL
I think perhaps that Nahar might actually be a Maia servant of Oromë rather than a real animal, which would explain his immortality, but we'll probably never know for sure.
Thanks for reviewing.

Back to the hunting lodge from Mahanaxar...where there *the weather* conspires to keep these hunters isolated just as Glorfindel was by the snowstorm. Ingwion's experiences will be valuable before all is said and done. Impressions: Above what is said here, one wonders if the manner of Sador and Beleg's deaths and their experiences in Mandos are another thread connecting these two. Sador is innocence, and Beleg is a seeker. Laurendil for his loyalty. Lovely picture of them seeing each other as they truly are...beings of light. I'm not surprised that Beleg would be the one to slip the leah, but I think he's going to be surprised to find himself in a place he didn't intend, lol...although the nermir have collected him for the journey. Love the idea of them as the Song made visible. Not very coherent, but this chapter provokes a myraid of thoughts, and I'm still processing!

Glorfindel and Finrod will shurely be glad to have Beleg´s company.
Are the butterflies the same as those in Wars of the Valar? If yes, I think that there is a higher power meddling in the plans of the Valar and the Hunt. Could it be that by following Beren´s fea back to his body Glorfindel and Finrod are able to return?

Yes, the butterflies are the same (more or less) as those in Wars of the Valar?I>, a manifestation of Eru in Eä. We will find out just what happens to Beleg soon. We need to go back to Finrod and Glorfindel first and see what they've been up to all this time. Thanks for reviewing.

So there I am this morning, innocently getting ready for work, when a little nudge pushes me to SoA - I could swear, I honestly could, Fiondil.... To have to go to work after reading that chapter is a great sacrifice!!!!!!!!!!!
As for the Hunt - I'm glad they started it, but was surprised the way it went. I remember when our hero went off with his fea and the Valar almost lost their lunches over that one! Imagine Beleg going off! I'm hoping that he at least stays in this dimension..... But it wouldn't surprise me that, of all of them, he'd be the one to find the lost... after all, he found Turin, didn't he!!!
I'm afraid there is a Vala and some Elves going to be in hot water with Manwe! The best laid plans of mice and men - er, Valar and Elves....
Can't wait till the next chapter.
Author's reply
I'm sure Manwë will have a few words to impart to Oromë (he will hold the Elves blameless in all this) once he finds out what happens. Of course, what Námo will say about it....

This was such fun to read. The eflings are almost as much trouble as the Reborn. Their thoughts are typical of children. They think they are smarter than adults and therefore they can fool them. Right.
The pony is waiting excitedly for Lindorillë. How sweet. However, her failed attempt to return home has had dire consequences. It seems to me that she is fading from grief. She just doesn’t understand.
It sounds like a good idea for Sorondil and Oromendil to play with the newly Reborn. Hopefully it will help them grow up a little.

I don't think Oromë expected the Hunt to go quite the way it did, which just goes to show that the Valar can still be surprised by the Children.
