Elwen · 1 May 2004 · Chapter 20: Slings and Arrows

Just popped out of the woodwork to tell you how very much I have been enjoying this story. I look forward to reading more.

Kitt of Lindon · 1 May 2004 · Chapter 20: Slings and Arrows

Oh, my heart leapt with joy at Legolas' accomplishment. That was very clever putting the blindfold on. ;) The mentioning of Legolas' calluses and those tidbits, I must say again, your way of mentioning those small things add an entertaining depth. Good for Legolas! He is going to ride Firestar, glad he has his full confidence back.

Rose Sared · 1 May 2004 · Chapter 20: Slings and Arrows

Hooo, well done that archer. I am enjoying this tale and I hope it goes on and on and on. Despite the lack of the magic eye fixing thingy. Ride 'em Leggy, and now we know where Aragorn got his grey hairs from Much appreciate your quality writing. Rose

LKK · 27 April 2004 · Chapter 19: Speak To Me

I fear my reviews are beginning to sound like a broken record, Nightwing. But a the risk of boring you, I will say it again ... I am in awe at the depth of detail you bring into your chapters. Little tidbits, here and there, scattered about to give an overall sense of reality to your work. My favorite little detail tidbit this time: Aragorn watched as Tithlam left Legolas and trotted toward the cottage. The little animal had undoubtedly had enough of the clashing waves of anger and impatience surging between her elf and his friend, and she hopped up onto the window ledge and vanished into peace of the warm house. I love that you included the cat's reaction here. I'm glad that Legolas and Aragorn have had this discussion. This is unlike anything either has been through before, it's clear. They're struggling to redefine themselves under these new circumstances. It must be frustrating for them; they who are normally so in control of their lives. At least now, each understands the other's fears better. Like everyone else, I'm anxious to learn where Legolas's arrow ended up. My guess -- the arrow hit the bale but not the twig target. I can't wait to find out if I guessed right! :)

OakWolf · 26 April 2004 · Chapter 19: Speak To Me

(chortling in a comfy chair)'Love the idea of Legolas glowing red, nothing like an elfy Mood ring or would it be an aura?Anywho dandy chapter but I cant see Aragorn cooking,if he wants to keep Legolas in good shape he should let Tithlam do the cooking...

Muinthel · 26 April 2004 · Chapter 19: Speak To Me

Great chapter...I really liked how you build up the tension till the end....and then you leave us in complete darkness if Legolas hit the target.....argh!!! My favorite sentence.....Can he actually be glowing red? Valar, this is worse than I thought. Can't wait for update!!!!

French Pony · 23 April 2004 · Chapter 19: Speak To Me

I can't make this a very long review, as I'm feeling kind of nauseous, and I'm going home soon, but I didn't want to forget to leave you a note. Things I liked: -- Legolas admitting that he doesn't know how to be blind. That's the kind of perceptive comment that I love reading in your work. Right after you read it, you think it's so true as to be bleedingly obvious, but you'd never have been able to say it so well yourself. "You" in this case being the editorial "you," not you Nightwing. -- Finally, the boys sit and have an honest discussion. They've needed to sit and have this out for a while now. -- The sound target. Won't be much use in a battle (or perhaps it might come in handy if there aren't a whole lot of enemies), but it's a lovely way for Legolas to keep in shape, and the skill gained might be of use when one is trying to shoot down a Nazgûl in the dark, to use a random example. -- Aragorn and Legolas are going to learn about the joys of matzah, I think. -- Aragorn's penance of looking for the stray arrows.

e_vrouw · 23 April 2004 · Chapter 19: Speak To Me

Yay!!! You let him shoot! Now the question is... does he hit anything? I like the idea of Aragorn having to search for Legolas's arrows because he only has four. In most stories, and in the movies, Legolas seems to have an endless supply. You make the story very realistic by only giving him a limited number. Plus, as Aragorn says: "Wonderful. I must seek green and brown fletched arrows in the pre-winter forest. Can we not dye them red first?" Legolas will have a different way of getting even with Aragorn next time. He'll just miss the target. :) (p.s. I doubt he'll actuall do that since he only has four :-( ) I want to thank you for the information about elves getting cold in canon. I notice that you actually use the questions and comments of reviewers in your story. There are a lot of people who don't, so on behalf of all your reviewers I thank you! One last note: My mother actually bakes her own bread. I can garantue you, it's horrible if you don't get all the ingredients right. I tried it once with my father when my mother was away. The birds didn't even want it. Aragorn is in for a big suprise, if he really thinks it's that simple. :) Hope you update soon (no pressure) e_vrouw Finally Tithlam has some more socks to steal. ;)

lwarren · 22 April 2004 · Chapter 19: Speak To Me

I have been following this story for some time and wanted you to know how terrific I think it is! Lots of tension, humor, cliffhangers (ugh!), and Legolas (sigh!) I've just today discovered how to leave a review (I believe it's called "reading the fine print at story's end" ;) and will try to encourage as much as possible. Your writing style is very good - with just the right blend of pain (emotional and otherwise), and humor. Your characters and their interactions with each other are totally believable, and I really enjoy the Legolas and Aragorn friendship, complete with well-considered elf threats!! I'm trusting and hoping for some sort of resolution to Legolas' blindness - poor sweet elf - tho' I've found his adjustment to it fascinating. Thanks for a wonderful story!

Alina · 22 April 2004 · Chapter 19: Speak To Me

Hey, great you updated!! I was waiting for it...as for Legolas´ point of view, I think it is spot on. Not that I have an idea what it is like to be blind, but I do know what it feels like to deal with a terrifying situation, and your description of fear, hope and despair flowing into each other hits the nail on the head. Your little comment before the chapter made me slightly nervous - should Aragorn be the one to get hurt or sick, or should the two get separated things would turn very nasty indeed... I will be looking forward to your next chapter - keep up the great work!!

Ithilien · 21 April 2004 · Chapter 19: Speak To Me

Oh, wow! That last paragraph . . . I knew it was coming. . . I could feel the build . . . but still . . . Oh, Nightwing! I rejoiced in the words. It was a very moving close to the chapter. I commend you! Nice job! Actually, I knew it would all work out. I'll bet Legolas hones his skills in no time. It was just a matter of drawing that bow and accepting the fact that he might miss for a while. I'm also willing to bet that he will come to realize, as proficient as he once had been, he could have shot with his eyes closed, and now that is essentially what he is doing. I'm glad he is using the leaves as his clue. Orcs are probably louder. And bad guys are known for being horrible at stealth, so I'll wager he gets his licks in in the end. But he needs more arrows. Four won't really do it when it comes to the Big Fight Up Ahead. Put fletching arrows on their list of winter chores. It was wonderful of Alun and the boy to bring clothing. Treasure trove indeed. More socks! And warm boots. And gloves too. I wonder what the cat will think of gloves? Yes, I understand now why the man did what he did. I like it when characters can admit their idiocy. It makes them so much more likeable when they are flawed, and it was a big mistake on Aragorn's part, but forgiveable because he confessed it and apologized for it. And better yet, Legolas seems to have forgiven. But now, in the awful meandering of my mind, I'm wondering what you might do to get the elf's shirt off again. I'm still with Lisette. Keep him near naked, I say. Oh, but there is elf-torture ahead, yes? Maybe then, eh? For me?

Ithilien · 21 April 2004 · Chapter 18: You've Got A Friend

Oh, one last thing...LOL at the little side comment about Tithlam and the sock. I love cats for their little oddities, and I can truly see it. But Legolas seemed a little insulted by this one before and I could see him not believing Aragorn's complaint until it was confirmed by the boy's question. That probably didn't help his mood any. Thanks for the chuckle at the elf's expense. Off to read the next chapter now.

Lossenchristal · 21 April 2004 · Chapter 19: Speak To Me

Ooh, the suspense is killing me!;) At least it is good suspense this time! I KNOW that Legolas is going to hit that target!;) That last paragraph just made me smile! It was so unexpected, but so beautiful to see Legolas happy, at least for a second, and confident of what he was going to do. I loved it when he asked Aragorn if he could hear the leaves rustling on the twig! All of a sudden, a light went off in my head! *OH! I know what he is going to do!* Ok, on other parts of the chapter, I am glad that Legolas has forgiven Aragorn, and I chuckled over the idea of Aragorn trying to make bread!:D I make whole wheat, handmade bread regularly, so I know some of the problems he may run into!:) Thanks again for a great chapter! Please don't leave Legolas's arrow in mid-air too long!;) Namarië, Lossenchristal

fliewatuet · 21 April 2004 · Chapter 19: Speak To Me

Sorry for not reviewing the previous chapter, but rest assured that I am still reading and thoroughly enjoying this story. My favourite part was Legolas and Aragorn sorting out their troubles with the entire situation. Only when Legolas named Aragorn's contradictory behaviour did I notice it as well. Kudos to you for including those things so subtly into the story (or blame on me for not paying closer attention). And I am glad that Legolas picked up his bow again. I am quite certain that his arrow will hit the mark (or come very close to it), but I bet that Aragorn will not be excessively bothered with retrieving Legolas' arrows.

Ithilien · 20 April 2004 · Chapter 18: You've Got A Friend

I'm patient. I can wait for whatever it is you have planned in this story, although I have to confess that I like the phrase "cool skippy!" and could almost buy off on that Readers Digest ending just for the amusement that those two words give me. Still, I have faith that the Extended Edition of this story is going to be better, and will wait for that one to come out. Don't I wish it were available in DVD! I wonder how Legolas will do riding Firestar. . . He *will* get to ride, won't he? I almost envision his ability to ride that stallion as his salvation later down the line, but obviously I'm getting way ahead of myself. It's just something I do when I get caught up in a story -- imagine the future outcome from any kind of hints the author might leave. Or maybe I did hit on something? Seemed like there was quite a bit of talk about no one else being able to handle the horse, so of course that means Legolas should. Right? Right? The banter over shooting Aragorn was amusing, but *what* was the man thinking, volunteering the elf as he did? Legolas' anger may be a good thing in the end, but was that Aragorn's intent? I want front row center seats too for that castration presentation. Do you think Legolas could do it with his shirt off?

sofia · 20 April 2004 · Chapter 19: Speak To Me

i'd like to see an elf glow red! He let the arrow go. He let the arrow go! Oh my... I believe in him! he is an elf after all...

Kitt of Lindon · 20 April 2004 · Chapter 19: Speak To Me

Ending the chapter like that! I cannot wait to see if it hits, (though I think it will, but I may be wrong!) 'watching his friend's long fingers sweep over his bow with the same love and familiarity as a harper who gently caresses the strings of his instrument before making music.' -I love that line, it is lovely. I'm glad that Legolas still isn't mad at Aragorn. I'd imagine that an Elf glowing red would be quite unnerving. (Or is Aragorn's imagination getting the better of him?)

Muinthel · 20 April 2004 · Chapter 18: You've Got A Friend

.....finally online again...had a total computer breakdown! Oh I just love that chapter.....it has everything in it. First off all I liked your first ending...lol!!!! Oh we see so much like that on the net...sigh! But you did not disapoint me in the real chapter.(well in one point...have to wait for an update) You did a great job by letting Legolas go through so many different emotions .... uncertainty, joy, anger and grieve. And a new friendship that wears a special bond. I felt all the emotions with him and - why did Aragorn challenge him so ...was that the only posibility to get Legolas in using his bow aggain.....? Well we will find out.....oh and I can't wait for the revenge! I hope Legolas makes his thoughts about revenge coming true.....wuahahaha!!!!!

LKK · 13 April 2004 · Chapter 18: You've Got A Friend

Very good chapter, Nightwing. Quite an emotional range -- Legolas' uncertainty at the beginning, the seething anger at Aragorn's trickery, the humor of Legolas' revenge plans, the heartache of two motherless sons -- all well done. I found one sentence highly ominous though: The army can no more march on Mirkwood than I can use my bow again. Blind or not, I'm fairly confident that Legolas will learn to use his bow again. (If only to carry out his revenge against Aragorn! LOL) That probably means Mirkwood is the city's intended target. I've suspected that for some time. I sure hope I'm wrong. Finally, I laughed out loud over the first version of this chapter. It was a hoot! Good going. :)

Kitt of Lindon · 13 April 2004 · Chapter 18: You've Got A Friend

I like the little fake-out at the begining. Ugh, I've actually seen many stories that do that, nearly killing Legolas and giving him the worst trouble, but then are unsure how to get him back to normal. So they just use a sort of meriacle cure. That's one thing I really like about your story, the sickness and healing is realistic. You had me cracking up at Legolas' thoughts of tying Aragorn to the tree. So, is Legolas really going to shoot Aragorn in the threatened spot? Do I have to wait until the next update? I can't wait to see how you're going to make Legolas take up archery again.

LadyArwen · 10 April 2004 · Chapter 18: You've Got A Friend

Hey. My jaw just totally dropped when I saw the fake opening. Damn, but I thought you'd gone nuts and totally dropped your standards. Hehe. Having said that, this chapter was brilliant, as every other, and I really like that 'your' Legolas has a bit of wicked humour about him, even though the basic innocence is there... I really like the cat too. Your story made me laugh, made me cry, and made me tell my friends about it. There is no higher praise I can offer. Indeed, one of the best fanfics in a long, long time. Nicely done, Nightwing. *standing ovation again*

French Pony · 10 April 2004 · Chapter 18: You've Got A Friend

I can't leave a very long or detailed review today, as I am visiting the parental units and will soon be engulfed in a massive Family Event, but I did want to drop you a line. The boy is a great one. I think the moment he really won my heart was when he was asking Legolas if the elf really intended to shoot Aragorn exactly thirty-seven inches off the ground, and he asked if he could watch. Aw yeah, come to mama, Tarnan! And Legolas's corollary, "It will be a pathetically small target, of course, but I just might be able to hit it… " was just the cherry on top. Yeah, it looks like cabin fever will also be a danger to Our Heroes. I wonder how Aragorn thinks Legolas is going to pick up archery again. I think that perhaps there are blind archers or riflepersons in our world, but I think they do it with the aid of very sophisticated technology and bleeping scopes which Legolas does not have. Even something like swordplay I can see being done blind, but that's at relatively close range. For a long-distance, vision-dependant skill like archey, I really do have to wonder how Aragorn thinks Legolas will learn to shoot. Perhaps we will get to find out. You've been so good at describing how he learns to do everything else, perhaps you'll have something else interesting to tell us. I must go now, but I did want you to know I'm still reading and still enjoying. Catch you later!

e_vrouw · 10 April 2004 · Chapter 18: You've Got A Friend

Yes, Another update! And behold! The cat returns! Like I said before; I really like Tithlam. So even a one-sentence reference to that sock-stealing cat is greatly appreciated. :) That entire sock-stealing bit is kind of becoming a running-joke, isn't it? Just like her name was. I really liked the interaction between Tarnan and Legolas. How they bonded over the deaths of their mothers. You write it really well. The notion that Legolas has trouble remembering the face of his mother is very depressing. Yet it puzzles me. If I recall correctly, elves have very, very good memories. Can't he remember because of the time that has passed (4 years seems short?) or because he's blind? I've heard that when people turn blind they start to forget what it was like to see. The friendship between Legolas and Tarnan will benefit them both. Legolas will have someone to distract him from his current situation, besides Aragorn. And Tarnan will learn the truth about other races, not the lies that he was told. In the short exchange that they had near the horses, Tarnan has already learned two things: One, that elves do indeed have mothers, :) And two, that they don't get cold easily. Which by the way leads me to another question: How cold does it have to get before an elf gets cold? I've read fanfiction in which elves can easily walk through blizzards that would cripple a human-army, but I find that a bit hard to believe. I haven't read all of Tolkien's books so I don't have any references from the professor, except for the fact that blizzards don't seem to trouble them all that much. In my opinion their temperature scale is about 10 degrees (celsius) off in comparison to humans. So they'll at least feel a bit chilly around freezing point. What do you think Nightwing? Hope you update soon, Can't wait to see Legolas using his bow. Though I hope he doesn't go through with his threat. But then again... Legolas does needs a 'moving' target (so he can track the sound). ;)

LadyArwen · 10 April 2004 · Chapter 12: Songs in the Key of Life

Ah, beautiful. Again, I know this is far beyond when I should be doing any reviewing, but I simply cannot help it. The leap off the tree was simply magnificent. Kudos on a job greatly accomplished. *standing ovation*

Anonymous · 10 April 2004 · Chapter 9: Of Squeaky Cats and Swimming Holes

Nicely done. I know this is long past when I should be reviweing, but this was just too brilliant.
