All I have to say is Waaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!, as I cry.
Lamiel · 21 November 2006 · Chapter 44: A Brief Quiet
I'm sorry that this is so late. I read this chapter with delight when it was posted, and planned to think it over and review the next day . . . and before I knew it the next day had turned into the next week, and then the next one, and so on. But that's to my benefit because it gives me the chance to read and enjoy it again today. Legolas badly needed this respite, and I think his enemies are going to find him that much more troublesome because of it. Angst lover that I am I can't entirely share his relief at Aragorn's good timing, but even I have to admit that he deserved a rest. And now he's had that, and food and clean clothes and a bath too! So this is the 'comfort' part of the hurt/comfort genre. H'm. I shall have to make a note of it. I think that his dealings with Ramhar and the sorcerer are not finished yet. As Legolas said there are more questions to be answered, and Malcovan owes a debt for all the suffering he's caused. He'll pay, I have no doubt of that. Aragorn's oath to fight Sauron's agents is something I'd not previously considered, but it makes perfect sense. And in any case I can't imagine him or Legolas leaving while things are unresolved. They just aren't made that way. And now Orcs! Oh boy, this should be good. cheers! Lamiel
Author's reply
Hey Lamiel! Glad to see you. I thought maybe you were busy moving back to your home state. Yes, for the comfort part, the elf must be given an opportunity to get wet. Mmm-hmmm! I pulled Aragorn's oath from various lines from the "Tale of Aragorn and Arwen", including: Elrond's words when he gives Aragorn the heirlooms: "With these you may do great deeds... but the test will be hard and long." Elrond again: "A great doom awaits you, either to rise above the height of all your fathers since the days of Elendil... many years of trial lie before you." And from the text: "for nearly thirty years he labored in the cause against Sauron", and he traveled far, "exploring the hearts of Men, both evil and good, and uncovering the plots and devices of the servants of Sauron". So it seems he truly had made this oath. Perhaps no one else knows of it but Elrond. And in my story, Legolas knows of Aragorn's oath, and had intended to fight beside him. Aragorn cannot leave things as they are in the Northlands, knowing an agent of Sauron is working there. How's TPD coming along? Will we see an update soon? Pretty please?
Tari · 21 November 2006 · Chapter 32: Out of Time
Legolas' acceptance of his blindness was beautifully stated. However, I can not give up hope that his sight will return. What would the fellowship do without him?
Tari · 20 November 2006 · Chapter 31: Shelter from the Storm
Chapters 27 thru 30 were absolutely amazing. I found it impossible to stop reading, but I must as lunch time is only one hour. I do hope this story is finished. I don't think I could handle the suspense.
Author's reply
Oh my, you're reading fast! And no, I regret to say TSAW is not finished. I've a bit more to do, and I'm a terribly slow updater. I work full time plus play the RL role of wife/mommy, so time for this sort of fun hobby is scarce. But I will keep plugging away, and hope you'll hang on for my updates once you have caught up.
Socket · 18 November 2006 · Chapter 44: A Brief Quiet
It's great to see a new chapter! Thank you for sticking with this wonderful story. Here's some good vibes being sent to your hubby to get you your promised laptop. In the meantime, don't let them put you at the bottom of the totem pole for using the family computer. Tell them your fans are clamoring for updates. LOL.
Author's reply
Thansk for sticking with this poky story, Socket. It's good to see the familiar readers still popping up to say hello. It is so hard to get to this computer. We've had my M-I-L here the last few days, and that had compounded the problem to an unbelievable degree.
Tari · 17 November 2006 · Chapter 24: Burnt Offerings
All I can say about chapter 24 is teheheheeee!!! What a hoot.
Ireth · 17 November 2006 · Chapter 44: A Brief Quiet
Yay! You updated!! Never doubted you would!! I only hope you will not let any of your readers hanging on by their fingernails for too long!! What a way to end a chapter!! So it's finally certain.....the old man is in with Sauron!! And orcs are coming.....Aragorn and Legolas will have to show the others that orcs can die just like men......and tell them to show no mercy. I somehow hope they can help Ramhar....it seems he's not as evil as I thought......damned Sauron!! Thanks for the update, I hope this review finds you in good health!! Hugs and kisses. Ireth
Author's reply
Hi Ireth! Ramhar is pretty evil, but also had been misled. He still needs to have a good butt-whippin' for being such a jerk, but behind many of the misunderstandings in ME was Sauron, with his whisperings and proddings.
Tari · 14 November 2006 · Chapter 7: Starlight and Solace
I love the humour you inserted into this chapter. Specifically Legoas calling Aragorn a cat-threatening insomniac, and later waving the cat's paw at Aragorn. That is so sweet, and helps relieve some of the angst.
Author's reply
I liked that line too. There is a great deal of angst and what-not in this story, but the little bits of levity are necessary. I'm also glad that you are reading here at SOA rather than at FFN. On this site I have made little improvements here and there, but not on the other. So you're reading the better version.
Elenora · 14 November 2006 · Chapter 44: A Brief Quiet
Absolutely excellent chapter, as always! And as you titled it, "A Brief Quiet," one just long enough to let us all catch our breath before the next round of tension sucks it back out of us, LOL!! I really loved the brief exchange between Aragorn and Legolas when Aragorn was convincing him he needed to sleep. Seemed very "in character" and just what one would expect between those two! I am really looking forward to seeing how so many of the threads you've got going will be brought together and resolved...the old man's evil plans for Mirkwood, Legolas dealing with Ramhar, and the dart still in Legolas's neck...I think you REALLY NEED that laptop! Any progress?
Author's reply
It's a roller coaster - up and down, up and down. Nope, no sign of the laptop. He seems to have no sense of urgency. That will not do!
Tari · 13 November 2006 · Chapter 6: In The Gathering Dark
This story gets better and better. I would not have the mysterious healer be a witch. I would have it be a beautiful youmg maiden, who comes in at the last minute and restores Loegolas's health and sight, and who knows what else.
Author's reply
Hi, Tari. Thanks for your reviews of these early chapters. It prodded me to go back and take another look at them. It's been quite a while since I wrote them, but they still hold up OK I think. I hope you have the time and the patience to stick out the whole thing. It's a long and winding road!
Tari · 10 November 2006 · Chapter 3: A Heavy Weight of Hours
I found the last few paragraphs of Chapter 3 to be unbelievably beautiful and touching.
Tari · 9 November 2006 · Chapter 2: When the Night Shadows Fall
When I recover from heart failure, I shall proceed to the third chapter. This is an absolutely excellent tale. Legolas is my favorite of all Tolkien characters which is why I'm having a minor heart attack. I know you will not kill him off. I so wish I had the Internet at home so I could read in the evenings and on weekends. I have to wait till tomorrow to continue. YUK!!
Linda Hoyland · 7 November 2006 · Chapter 44: A Brief Quiet

Thanks. Me too! I'm still waiting.
Bev · 6 November 2006 · Chapter 44: A Brief Quiet
YES! How wonderful to find a new chapter up...Thank you Nightwing. Fantastic chapter...a nice little respite before all hell breaks lose. Hot Dog...that's my Elf...he takes a licking but keeps on ticking. A little sleep, some good food, a bath and some nice warm clothes and he's good to go. I just love the satisfaction in Legolas' voice when he was describing how he smashed the glass vial in the guards'face. I don't think they counted on having such a hard to control prisoner..heehee. It is so sweet, the way Aragorn fusses over Legolas..making sure he eats and gets some sleep. And, Legolas fusses over Aragorn right back. Orcs! I guess they had to show up sooner or later...baaa. How are Aragorn and Legolas going to get the town folk to fight back their fear and fight the Orcs? And..Aragorn needs to get that pain medicine recipe..better yet..take Koryons' Grandma with them. She may be the key to Legolas getting his sight back. As always..GREAT STORY. Oh..and here is one of Aragorns soggy, stinky socks..just waiting to be lobbed your hubbys way...LOL!..just in case he forgets your computer again. Can't have an office without one, now can you. Take care. Peace Bev
Author's reply
You're welcome. I thought I'd never get the darned thing done. Legolas is resilient. I try hard not to make him something fan-ficcy ridiculous, a guy who takes severe beatings and stabbings amongst even less pleasant things, and then recovers from certain death with nothing more than a song from Aragorn. But he is an Elf, and they are stronger than mortals. Koryon's grandma will be back. I'm rather fond of her. Oh, my husband had better watch out now! There is nothing worse than the ranger's socks.
Muinthel · 4 November 2006 · Chapter 44: A Brief Quiet
....oh oh....what a great chapter. The quiet, deep breezing before the storm begins again. Well I did not think they would make it out of the city so easy. I like it more than the prevous one...! So on to the action....go my ranger go ;-))!!! Muinthel ...everything ok on this side of the world....4 boys---LOTS of action!!!
Author's reply
I bet you are just buried under all that BOY POWER. I hope they are being good and helpful and not wearing Mommy out too much. I'm glad you liked the new chapter better. Not so... schmaltzy! I did see your point. It was a tad sentimental. We'll see how and what Aragorn does. Do you still have a crush on Aragorn?
sofia · 4 November 2006 · Chapter 44: A Brief Quiet
oh what an ending. I don't expect our two heros to fight against the orcs though. good chapter. Looking at it, it seemed long, but reading it, it didn't.
Author's reply
It was an average-sized chapter. You'd think with four months I'd have managed to get something longer done, wouldn't you? Sigh... The question of how to tackle the orcs...
White Wolf · 4 November 2006 · Chapter 44: A Brief Quiet
Sleep, food, a wash and conversation with his best friend. What better way for Legolas to regain strength. It was certainly nice to see those quiet moments between the friends in the middle of the chaos in the city. I love the way Legolas explained exactly how he knew it was Aragorn approaching. Nothing gets past that very perceptive elf. Now, however, the inevitable trouble is coming. Orcs. Things are about to get very dicey, I’m sure. Looking forward to more ON YOUR NEW COMPUTER!!! Tell your husband he does NOT want to face irate LoTR fangirls. That should frighten him enough to run right out and get you your laptop, don’t you think?. :o)
Author's reply
Orcs do seem to be inevitable, don't they? The darned things. Husband is not running. He's not even walking. Prepare to hurl the rotten veggies!

It is almost 2am - I hate it when I find a tale this good - I started reading chapter 1 at about 8pm and look - here I am still. Chapter 16 - but I had such fun reading your footnotes that I finally had to stop and say something. I adore this story - I already emailed an 'elf' friend and told her she must come here and read. Wonderful tale - exquisitely written and very well researched. Now - though I will probably toss and turn for an hour or so - I must be to bed - for I have to work tomorrow. The horror of being mortal and needing vast amounts of sleep - which I shall only have a portion of tongiht. Blessings and many, many thanks for sharing this!!!!

A thousand apologies for not responding sooner. Because you reviewed an earlier chapter, you got swallowed up and vanished from sight for a time. I just found you again as I was poking around. Thanks much for letting me know you're enjoying it, and for telling your friend!

Welcome back, Nightwing. We've missed you, you know! I understand your computer dilemma as I had to get rid of my old one last month and the new one I bought on Oct.14th lasted a grand total of 11 days before breaking down! I only got it fixed yesterday---just in time! I will be sending as many good vibes your way as I can manage.Your husband should be prepared for a LOT of flying objects heading his way if that laptop isn't gifted to you soon :D This chapter was well worth the wait.I love the idea of Aragorn commanding Legolas that he sleeps, even though there's a battle not far from where they are resting.Poor elf, though, he is at the end of his tether and probably not in the best condtion for dealing with a full-on fight just yet.I just love how Aragorn & Legolas care for each other. I love the dialogue between Aragorn and Legolas. As ever, there isn't one false note in the way they interact and deal with each other. That Legolas recognises Aragorn's step as he returns to their room was a nice touch and the humour, about Aragorn's Kingly speech, was welcome. So, the Orcs have come. Not good at all.Aragorn and Legolas will never leave the rebels to fight them alone so they have to do something.I'm dying to know what that something will be! Wonderful chapter as always, Nightwing.Update as soon as you can. Take care. Ali.
Author's reply
Hey, I've missed you guys too! It frustrates me to get behind on updating. And I get worried too, that readers will wander away in my absence. I'm very grateful to see they didn't. I'm glad you like the dialog. These two are completely comfortable with each other, and know each other well.
Calenlass Greenleaf · 2 November 2006 · Chapter 44: A Brief Quiet
I sympathize with you. No compter...once mine broke down, and I had to wait a whole week before it was fixed. It was pure agony. Great Chapter. I think I'll stick around for the end, my friend. It's just too a good of a story to put down. :-P

Robinscat · 2 November 2006 · Chapter 44: A Brief Quiet
Evil, evil cliffhanger. Nightwing, you tell your husband to get a puter for you or all the loyal readers will hound him til the ends of Arda and beyond. LOL. I didn't think the boys would just slip over the wall and wait for the outcome. I think they are going to be thrust into the center of things very quickly. A fitting chapter, like the deep, calming breath before the action begins. I will patiently await the next chapter, while I line up the rotten tomatoes, rolls of TP, squishy bananas, a few hard bricks ........ Robin
Author's reply
I don't think he's noticed the "vibe" coming from fanfic people yet. No sign of my laptop. Grrr... bring on the slimy produce! It perhaps would have been more realistic for the elf and the ranger to just split and leave the city to itself, but how dull would that be? But I did like the quiet of this chapter too.
French Pony · 1 November 2006 · Chapter 44: A Brief Quiet
I can't write much right now -- I'm exhausted from doing way too much Hebrew homework, but if I don't say something now, I'll forget, and that would be bad. I'm glad our heroes got at least a little respite. Legolas in particular was right at the fraying end of his rope, but a little rest, a little food, and a little TLC seem to have bolstered his spirits again. However, if it's really orcs that are coming, he'll need every bit of restoration he got.
Author's reply
Hello French Pony! I hope your graduate studies are going well. I know - orcs are the most dreadfully tiresome things, aren't they?
