Faramir is a brave man indeed to wager with the greatest hunter of the Third Age! I'm now looking forward to the inevitable disaster. A most enjoyable read.

The Guards were hilarious here.I wonder who truly rules Gondor? The stag is indeed a magical one. I'm puzzled what you mean by "for the metal plates of their normal garb ", for they would only wear armour to fight a battle. Is it elaborabe embroidery of some sort? Poor Aragorn and Faramir, I eagerly await more.
Author's reply
I will admit that the movies affected my thought here. I was thinking, of course, of the armour that most of the guards of Minas Tirith wore. I perhaps didn't word it well, or I'm completely wrong. Thank you for your kind review.

I loved the bargining over the numbers of guards! Can't wait for more.

Now I'm indeed worried. It seems Aragorn and Faramir have met their match. How are they going to extricate themselves from this situation.

What a cliffhanger! I hope Aragorn and Faramir are OK! Happy writing! Please update soon! I am really enjoying this story. Hugs, Sarah xxx

Yes, Tolkien does appear to have been at least partly responsive to the same influences as his friend Lewis after all, doesn't he? Smart stag--and has the King and Steward now both in a pickle! Heh! Now, how will they get out of the river?

Absolutely delightful! Of course, there were a lot of intelligent, even talking, animals in Middle Earth. And those between Mordor and Minas Tirith would just be recovering from a lot of rough years, with Orcs and all of Saurons humans and other creatures trampling through their forests. I am sure they would have learned to be especially wary! Very well begun!

That was a delightful review, Ainu. It brought a smile to my face. I see Aragorn is a veritable diplomat: the tells the guard and delegates for Faramir the mission of handling Éowyn and Arwen.
Author's reply
Thanks Estelcontar for your kind words. And Aragorn, of course, values his wellbeing well enough to avoid the impossible task ;)

Very promising! I love the wives wagering on how messed up this whole trip is going to get.

Thanks. I like poking fun at the fact that so many authors have the heroes get into trouble, but the womenfolk are quite aware of it ;)

An enjoyable beginning.I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This sounds a trifle awkward and may be left over from your first version? "Aragorn had been raised to be a tactician and a leader; his foster father was sure to see to it." It is good to see my favourite characters together.
Author's reply
Thanks, Linda. I believe it is left over from the original, though I have yet to figure out how to reword it to make it sound less awkward.
