· Chapter 14: Grief for the Living Son
Poignant beyond words, Larner. Nerdanel must have wanted to die a thousand deaths at what her husaband and children did, especially at Alqualondë. Beautifully written with a flow that was almost musical. One of your best.
Author's reply
I strongly believe you are right, Fiondil--it must have been difficult for her indeed. Thank you so. Am so glad you feel it is that good. My first love is surrounding the time of the quest, of course; but now and then I do dip into other times.
Thank you2

But of course a bribe! Smart man - ahem, I mean Hobbit, that Pippin! :-D
Author's reply
Well, of course he's become a good deal wiser about Hobbit nature over the years! Heh!
Thanks so, Sunny!

*sniffles*
Now where did I put the hankies? You know I have a soft spot for Maglor, but I feel even more sorry for Nerdanel.
Btw, does your muse take bribes? If so, I am sure I can come up with lots of virtual bribes to allow him/her to keep you nicely supplied with material for _Stirring Rings_. How about virtual homemade chocolate chip and walnut cookies? Virtual florentines? Virtual saffron buns? Virtual cloudberries and cream?
Anything to keep the words flowing....
Author's reply
My muse is ADHD, I swear, and I never know what to expect from her next! I have so many nuzguls and plotbunnies running around it's sometimes difficult even to move! Heh! Take bribes? Best keep the chocolate chip and walnut cookies away from her, or she'll take off after Hobbits in the kitchen for certain! Have the next chapter for "The Tenant from Staddle" in the works now, but she's having too much fun with a dance in Dol Amroth at the moment to let me get it done. But the next chapters of both I hope will be posted by or shortly after Christmas, I hope.
As for Maglor and Nerdanel--this time she came up with a sad one, I admit.
Thanks so for the comments.

That would indeed be a grief - the same so many other mothers have felt through the ages - to remember an innocent child grown to terrible adult and wondering where it all went wrong.
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
Oh, I agree. To lose all seven of her sons to their father's grief and fury inspired oath must have been horrible! And then to learn what it brought them to, not only in Aman but throughout Middle Earth as well--it must have made it worse!
Thanks so, Antane.

Still hanging in there I see!
I often wonder what happened to Maglor, is he still roaming Middle Earth greiving for what his fathers Oath forced on him and his brothers, or is he at peace in Aman?
More please,
Lynda
Author's reply
Yes, managed another day of it. As for Maglor--have seen a variety of stories about him--in a monastery, in New York, on a steamship out of London....
I like to think he did finally manage to get at least to Tol Eressea, but just how I haven't posted as yet....
Thanks so, Lynda.

· Chapter 14: Grief for the Living Son
Ah yes - over what Fëanor and his sons did it is so easy to forget Nerdanel. It must have been a terrible time for her, knowing what her family did and how much grief they caused.
But I look forward to your promised happy end in 'Stirring Rings' for Maglor :) Hope to catch up on that one during the holidays, as I don't have much time before. Btw, will not be online much the next days, if at all, as I have friends visiting, so reviews might take until next weekend!
And now I have an urgent appointment with my vacuum cleaner *sigh'
Author's reply
Nerdanel lost so much when Melkor killed Finwe and stole the Silmarils! And I agree with your ideas of how much grief and anger she herself must have felt.
Now, to get the next chapter of "The Tenant" finished and posted, then get the next chapter of "Stirring Rings" after that! Heh!
And have a wonderful holiday season!

· Chapter 13: The Miscreant
Oh well, what did they expect, with a monkey on board? They get everywhere and take what they want *grin*
Author's reply
Well, of course, Kitty! Am so glad monkeys and parrots were so often pets of sailors! Made it easier to get all the words into this one.

· Chapter 12: Isengar's Treasures from the Mathom Room
Talking about the contents of Isengar's mathom room is a clever way to include so many words that don't have much to do with each other into such a short piece. That can't be easy to manage!
Author's reply
You're so right--it's getting increasingly difficult to find ways of including them all, I find. Tomorrow's ought to be interesting, once I learn what the new word is. But if anyone within the Shire would have collected something to do with monkeys, I suspect it would be Isengar!

· Chapter 11: Assuring his Welcome
*snicker* Pippin knows his beloved rather well, doesn't he? How wise of him to bring not only that document, but a pendant as well. Though Diamond shouldn't be angry, after all she agreed to Pippin going to Harad. And I am sure she will like the mushroom dish story ;-)
Author's reply
Oh, yes! Pippin is covering all his bases well.
And I do think that everyone will enjoy the story of introducing mushrooms to the court of Harad! Heh! Thanks for remembering that!

Ah, the monkey returns to another story! So perhaps I can hope, maybe, just maybe, a story of Frodo and the pendant? Pretty please? :)
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
Yes, but a real one this time. As far as Frodo and the prism--perhaps one day.... We'll see where the next story leads you.

· Chapter 12: Isengar's Treasures from the Mathom Room
Yep, that sounds like a monkey all right, or a chimp. I think Frodo would have been more fascinated by what his father holds though - light meeting light as it were.
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
A sock monkey, perhaps, for our favorite young Hobbit? But you are right--the prism would delight him more! Lovely imagery you've conjured. Thank you.

Brilliant use of "pendant" and "cookie."
Author's reply
Thank you so, eilu.
Author Reply: Stupid computer cut me off! Thank you so, eiluj. It was interesting to find out how to get all the words put in, and I find "cookie" is a hard one to fit in at times.

· Chapter 13: The Miscreant
I am just trying to visualise the Captain trying to get the letter back out of the hole! Ha! Reminds me of an advert on our TV currently for baby pain medication. It shows a toddler gaily stuffing a ten pund not down a crack in the floor boards.
Author's reply
I agree--getting that letter out of the violin will be difficult! And I remember with pleasure a small shoe found in between the inner and outer wall of a Roman-period villa near York. I imagine this Roman-Britain young matron asking her child, "Where is your shoe, darling?" and the little kid, one finger in his mouth, pointing to the hole in the wall, and the mother saying, "You put it WHERE????" I love that shoe! It shows little kids haven't changed in two thousand years!

· Chapter 12: Isengar's Treasures from the Mathom Room
Very sweet! I can see where this Advent challenge is getting, well, very challenging! But this was a clever and very plausible way to get all those very unrelated words into a fic.
I especially like "Gondorian cookie sheet" ... hmm, wonder where I might get one of those!
Author's reply
Thank you. As for obtaining a Gondorian cookie sheet--you go east to Bree, go south to the Gap of Rohan, then east to Amon Din, and south to Minas Tirith....
It is getting harder to fit the words in, particularly when they added cookie, which is an Americanism!

LOL! Isn't it lucky for you that Isengar came home all loaded down with souvenirs? And that he gave many of them to Bilbo! Very clever!
Author's reply
Yes, this time I found myself fleeing to the mathom room and imagining that the old Mad Took in time came to appreciate the one who as a child used to spy upon him!
Thanks!

· Chapter 10: The Ringbearer Prepares to Sail
Wow! That was beautifully done!
And that was still another meaning of the word "fork" which I hadn't known so far. In German you need a prefix to do so. While "Gabel" is the fork you eat with, "Stimmgabel" is the fork to tune a string with.
Word count: 150! I'm really impressed!
Author's reply
So far the word count on each one has been 150, so we will see how long I can keep it at that limit.
The proper name is "tuning fork," so you can see I did some shortening of it in order to make it fit in.
And thank you for the response.

LOL! I loved your Pippin in "Lesser Rings"! What a fun reminder!
(But I can tell, it's getting harder and harder to get in all the words! I'm certainly curious to see if you will be able to keep it up! I am afraid I would have given up before this!)

At least "crystal" was a perfect word for this one, the theme of which was in my mind as early as last night! Heh!
Glad to recall that story again.
