Really liked this one. (Sorry to be sporadic with feedback; just been busy. But I've been reading when I can, and enjoying...)
Author's reply
I'm so glas you do, Cookiefleck. There must have been many moments when Frodo was especially missed.
Happy December!

This is quite nice! I could easily envision your Harad here--and you've worked the prompts in very cleverly.
Author's reply
Oh, I'm so glad! I love the thought of a proto-Egyptian Harad, myself, obviously! And it at least gave me a place where monkeys could be expected to be found naturally.

What a joyous event! It's so often the small, seemingly-random choices we make in life that make such a difference in so many lives.
Author's reply
So glad you enjoyed this so, Shirebound. Yes, it's the apparently random things we do that appear to fulfill us and others best! Thanks so for the feedback!

So far, this has to be my favorite of these little fics, Larner, if only because "Lesser Rings" is perhaps my favorite of all your longer stories to date. *grin* I look forward to seeing how you incorporate all these words and the ones that are to come into the final story. It should indeed be quite a challenge.
Author's reply
Oh, I'm so glad, Fiondil. You truly like "Lesser Ring" so well? I am honored. I enjoyed writing it, of course. At least "Stirring Rings" is no longer being quite so stubborn.
Now, can I continue to capture all the elements into ficlets of a mere hundred fifty words each? Somehow I think they're going to have to grow longer as time goes on.

I liked all the little stories here so far, but this one was especially well done.
All the words fit in so easily, even the monkey, as well as the second meaning of "fork".
I'm looking forward to reading more!
How long will the word adding continue, I wonder? Until Christmas? It'll be a load of words to place into a story by then!
Author's reply
It's going to be through the twenty-fourth, so bear with me as I keep on adding. Heh! And am so glad you felt this was well done. At least here I have an environment where monkeys are part of the actual scene! Heh!

Yikes! Quite the adventure hinted at here. Different use of "fork" too! Hadn't thought of that one.
Author's reply
It was fun visiting my version of Harad as presented in "Lesser Ring" again, and doing a bit of a prequil to the story, for when Aragorn first appears in "Lesser Ring" he's leading this camel, you see....
And that use of the word fork has been niggling at me since I first saw it added to the list! Heh!
Thanks, Lindelea.

LOL, I don't think I knew the new word was "fork" when I first read this, so I was looking at words and guessing. I had guessed "zither" but I was wrong!
Very clever!
Author's reply
Thanks so, Lindalea. Have found my mind going rather silly with all these words now!
Although for all I know a zither might well become part of the list. Having to work monkey into all of them from now on is going to be VERY interesting!

A very clever use of the prompt.I see my Faramir is not the only shy one!
Author's reply
No, not the only shy one! But for a gentlehobbit to bare his torso in front of lady Hobbits would not be Proper! Heh!
Thanks so, Linda.

I noticed that something got left out in my review, namely:
**What, so much not-angsty stuff from Larner?? Suttung, if you have spiked her drink with some of your mead, _DO IT AGAIN!!!_ **
(between the << >>)
Author's reply
(And not everything I write is angsty, after all, although the last two chapters in Stirring Rings have been anything but funny, I suspect.)

I don’t suppose the similarity in concept to ”The Twelve days of Christmas” is coincidental. My neyrons tend to get tangled up like basket of yarn balls after a visit from a kitten sometime after “Six swans a-laying" – no, the swans were _swimming_, weren’t they, and it was geese (WHY not hens) making eggs – I almost wrote omelets ;-)
Oh, well, if somebody is going to go through these ficlets with an electron microscope to make _sure_ you get through every item of the day’s list, _I_ am surely _not_ going to be one! I’ll simply enjoy your fun :-)
<>
(Suttung was the, well, _NOT_ a god, but the _origin_ of true bardery in the Norse Mythology) (...it is sort of complicated...)
(Hope that such a blatantly pagan reference won't offend, but then I am not a Christian)
Author's reply
Dear, I fell in love with mythology by the time I was seven, and have never given over the love affair. Which helps explain, I suppose, why I love Tolkien as much as I do! Heh! Although I'd not heard of Suttung before!
What gets written between left and right arrows the website sees as an HTML code, which is why it didn't print. Now I understand the next comment you made! Heh!
And blame Dwimmerdane and Aranel, I think, for the word list, which gets more difficult to put together in a short tale each day! Heh!
Thanks for the feedback!

I am sure that Arwen would love some perfume. I would like the zither.
Author's reply
I wish I had my mom's old zither. I never found a tuning key for it, though, so I could never get it properly tuned.
And Arwen would undoubtedly love some perfume! Heh!

*grin* So Eldarion wants to have a monkey? Not sure that's such a good idea ... Melian, on the other hand, is way too good, wishing for something to learn, not for a nice gown or the like. But at least she had a good idea for Arwen, I think.
Author's reply
My dad was stationed for a time in Central America, and one neighbor while they lived there had a monkey. It used to climb up on the roof and fling its feces at anyone who came out the door. I so wanted to have one as an adult cousin of mine had one and it fascinated me; Mom vetoed the idea immediately. The one in Costa Rica soured her on them forever.

Well, that was quite a welcome for Aldarion! Even for such an adventurer this sort of welcome must have been very enticing and a reason to return soon.
Author's reply
Oh, yes, it was one he deserved and that I'm glad at the time she wished to give him. Unfortunately she came to see the sea and his ships as rivals for his affection and grew bitter. Too bad, really.
Thanks so for the comments!

*lol* Somehow I find it difficult to imagine Frodo could produce such terrible noises instead of wonderful music ;-)
Author's reply
Well, he's a beginner, and violins are NOT kind to beginners--believe me! I gave up with my dad's violin in short order, actually, although I did better on his piano. But pianos are much more forgiving, I've found! Heh!

Ah, that's such a teaser - another incident I'd love to read more about! Well, we already know Aragorn was a great strategist, and he proved that with the attack on Umbar once again.
Author's reply
Maybe I'll write this, although it won't be yet, of course. Maybe I'll eventually write it in "Stirring Rings." You never know! And I love the Lord Captain Thorongil! Heh!

Oh yes, Frodo would have liked that place. It's so sad he couldn't stay to see that day. But at least his friends still do think of him.
Author's reply
Oh, I agree; and at least Sam is able to bring the memory of this to Frodo to share it with him when it is time. And they do have one another at the time.

*giggle* This is becoming like the "12 Days of Christmas"! You are being very clever with it.

I can so see myself as Melian. I have a little brother who acts really iritatingly. Elizabeth has it alot wrose than me, though. I only have one little brother, she has two and some little sisters. Nice chapter!
God Bless!
~Szepilona10~
Author's reply
My little brother was often a brat, but then I wasn't always nice to him as a big sister, either. Heh! And I like imagining that Eldarion was second-born rather than first. Sometimes I identify with him, and sometimes with her.
Thanks so, Szepilona.

I kinda feel sorry for this woman who had to contend with a mistresss - the sea - for her husband's heart.
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
I know. She could have realized he was a man doing what he was designed by the Creator to do, but never gave up her vision of the sea as a rival, and so lost her peace of mind with him, dooming their daughter to have torn feelings as a result.

Back now to review. I loved this! LOL, violin bow hairs! Very creative!

*giggle* This one made me grin and laugh! I can just picture Bilbo scurrying away. Good job on incorporating the required words in such a short ficlet!

It's getting more difficult, though. Am glad it made you giggle. Poor Isengar--no peace for the alleged Mad Took!
