Now this was a different kind of LOTR story. I do not like snakes but you made me want to know more. Great job!!!
Author's reply
I like to be as original as I can get on most of the stories I write. I think snakes are neat, but I have a healthy respect for them, especially the ones with venom. I think its also neat when anything I write can inspire someone to learn more about something or someone. Thank you.

The snake dead, but its progeny possibly hatching at some untoward time in the future? But of course! At least this one danger is past, and the trees merely rejoice that Legolas was spared! Now, to see what dangers these two get into next time!
Author's reply
Yeah, the snake is definitely dead, and hatching progeny is a distinct possibility. It's unlikely that L & A will have to worry about that one. I had to get Legolas back to the forest, and of course, the trees would forgive him and be happy he came back. You can bet it will be another wild ride.
I tried to thank everyone who reviewed my stories at MEGA, but I'm sure I missed some. If I missed you, please know I appreciate all of your kind words very much. :o)

Ohhhhhh, classic horror story ending there! They think everything is okay but it's not! I can just see some years in the future, Aragorn and Legolas will decide to show Eldarion the site of one of their near-death experiences and SURPRISE! It will begin all over again.
Well, they made it. Finally. :) Legolas should thank his lucky stars that he was born an elf, or Aragorn would have got him killed years ago. Speaking of death though, I can only imagine Elrond's reaction when they return *this* time. Aragorn and Legolas have survived orcs, trolls, and a giant snake, but I think one of these days Elrond will just finish them off and save everyone a lot of trouble later.
Great story, thanks so much for the good times! Love how you write Aragorn and Legolas!
P.S. So, when is your next story going to begin? :)
Author's reply
Yeah, I couldn't resist. A fellow writer/friend from Germany called the snake she in a review on another site, and when I asked why, she said the Germain word for snake was in the feminine, so that gave me the idea for the ending. I love stuff like that. Oh my. I like your idea about the future. What fun that would be.
Yes, they sure did. I agree that Legolas has a big advantage on these misadventures because he's an elf. I imagine Elrond will surely give them a very stern lecture, then he might finish them off. :o)
I'm glad you enjoyed the story and the way I write L & A.
I have a new story that I'll post soon.

Who ever said humans were weak? Aragorn is living proof of the contrary! I would hate to be going through what the Dynamic Duo is experiencing right now.
Poor snake, can't get at the little humans. Still, I wouldn't get to comfortable, Aragorn. You guys NEVER have luck go your way for long. Though maybe it will this time. Legolas can't keep going forever without proper care.
Author's reply
That man does have an enormous constitution, doesn't he? Me, too. It certainly is a test of endurance - and luck.
It isn't for lack of trying, that's for sure. I don't think Aragorn's been comfortable since he found out that the tunnels weren't empty. :o) No, not even an elf can survive every time when things like this happen. The next chapter will resolve a lot.

That's true, though it wasn't easy. The cold can be very dangerous, so we must hope they'll be all right, even though It is coming after them.

I suppose the snake freezing to death would be too much to hope for. But if It's sleeping, now would be a great time to find a way to kill it.
Lovely, now the elf is not only torn to pieces, he has a high fever and is going to be dragged out into the snow in all of this. Poor guy.
Oh, Aragorn's thoughts are so amusing. :) "That idea excited the ranger, that is, until he realized that he and Legolas would likely freeze to death long before the snake did. Why did practical facts always seem to come along to dash a hopeful thought?" I hate being practical.
*"You will be no more of a burden to me than I have been to you under similar circumstances,” the ranger declared firmly.
It was Legolas’s turn to laugh. “When have we ever been in anything remotely resembling these circumstances?”
“Point taken.”*
Lol, I can't remember anything like that either. True, I've read plenty of stories where they are either stranded in a blizzard nowhere near help or are up against some evil creature, but being in a snowstorm with a giant snake? I think that's a new one! :)
As for Legolas not being suicidal? HA! You wouldn't think it half the time. And Aragorn can't say anything either.
Author's reply
If our guys were in a position to kill the snake that would be great, but alas, they aren't.
Yeah, it is a bad situation. But, they can't stay where they are. So, leaving the cave is their only real option.
Practicality can be a drag sometimes.
I'm glad you seemed to like those quotes. I did, too. :o)
I try to be original with my story plots. I think being in a snowstorm with a relentless giant snake is rather unique. I've never read anything like it before, either.
Considering the messes those two get into, being suicidal seems to be a forgone conclusion, otherwise they'd stay in bed. :o)

not that i feel bad for the snake or anything, but to think of a knife in one's tongue, ow...and i thought biting my tongue was painful
if only Aragorn had just stuck his sword down It's throat, i mean, how else are they going to kill it? hmmm...
Author's reply
Right. They were able to get a little rest.
I guess that little cave is better than nothing, and Aragorn didn't have much of a choice.
Biting one's tongue is very painful, but I can't scare up much sympathy for that snake, considering all It's done to our guys. I know It's just doing what snake's do, but It doesn't have to be so relentless about it.
Who says the snake will get killed? :o)

It's a matter of time before they find a way to get past the snake and to their horses and safety--ane hopefully new supplies. But at least Legolas is capable of awakening and bantering--always a good sign.

It may be a matter of time, but time is slowing down for them, at least in their minds, I'm sure. It seems that no matter the situation, they can't help the humor that often creeps into their conversations.

It was a narrow escape. Punning is acceptable, since it's true both literally and figuratively.

I think our guys are alone, no help coming. Unless, of course, you consider the author help. :o) Excitement comes in many forms, good and bad, but they are together, which has to be a good thing.
Legolas probably has suffered enough, but that may not make a difference. We'll have to see how it goes.
I thought of Kimodo dragons when I wrote that part, because their saliva is septic due to diet and not from venom. Ew is right.

:) ...Hi...I'm back.
I have been reeeaalllly busy lately, so please forgive me! But It was the first story I read when I had the time! :)
I almost forgot that the sun could actually come out, they had been running around in the dark for so long.
Anyway. Legolas, stop worrying so much about Aragorn and sit STILL. He is coming to you. And it won't be of much help in any circumstance if you puncture your lungs. Not to mention I'm a little scared that you could have been poisoned. So just stop moving.
Aragorn, HURRY UP!
If the snake sees Legolas again, well, what with the state he's in, they will be IN VERY BIG TROUBLE. AGAIN. Incidentally, I can't see that the horses will be much help now either. It would be very dangerous for Legolas to bounce around on one of them at this time.
So, how do they get out of this one? :)
Author's reply
Good to hear from you. Thank you for coming back and reading this.
I know they were happy to see the sun. (It's been raining for so long where I live, I'd love to see the sun again, as well.)
Legolas doesn't know if Aragorn is able to come after him. Also, he's afraid to stay put and risk the snake finding him.
I think VERY BIG TROUBLE is an understatement should the snake find Legolas again. Can you say DINNER? Not only would horse-bouncing be bad, though it would be preferable to being eaten, but I don't think the horses could even reach our guys at the moment.
That's the million dollar question. We'll have to wait and see. :O)

oooooooh.......snap.
THEY'RE ALL GONNA DIE, THEY'RE ALL GONNA DIE, THEY'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!
Actually, that should be "they're both gonna die." Well maybe not. After all, the elf might taste good, but the ranger...who knows how long ago he took a bath, might give It indigestion. Also, I can't see It delicately removing arrows, swords, and knives from quivers and scabbards before dinner and somehow I think those might cause the snake at least a little pain. Who knows? Maybe they're all gonna die anyway.
Okay, sorry, that was weird.
So Aragorn was travelling away from Legolas, who is lying incapacitated. It has spotted Aragorn. Not looking good here. Could use a little estel and luck. And maybe something more, like an identical twin or two, a wizard, or SOMETHING! HELP! Snake at twelve o'clock! :)
Author's reply
Yipes. I hope you are wrong. The ranger would certainly be a little gritty, however, snakes don't chew their food, so that wouldn't be a problem for It. Having all the weapons sticking out at odd angles definitely would be unpleasant going down.
We don't know yet if Aragorn has really been spotted. Let's hope not. The trouble with outside rescue is that no one knows where they are. One of the Palantíri would be helpful right about now.
