Ah, yes, to have the children waken daddy with eggs and sausages will do nicely, I think! Heh! And no wonder Ox is hungry now! Heh!
Author's reply
Yep. His morning is not going to be fun. No wonder. *grin*

Oh dear - I now have such a hankering to go and make cheese scones... but it is well past midnight! Perhaps tomorrow.
Author's reply
*grin* That's a perfect response to this chapter!
Whispy · 4 July 2012 · Chapter 10
Ah, Ox is such a great character. I love him. And I wonder what will Niriel and Calembel will think of a dinner cooked by the Hobbits. I have this image of them just gaping in shock at the amount of food on the table, haha. Thank you for a new chapter! Whispy
Author's reply
Glad you like Ox! He just showed up out of nowhere and offered to help the hobbits, so of course I had to let him. I have a feeling that Calembel's family will be very surprised!
Fiondil · 4 July 2012 · Chapter 10
Well, at least the missus wasn't too angry. I do feel sorry for Calembel. He will not be a happy camper in the morning. *grin* Thanks for posting another chapter, Dreamflower. Can't wait to see what happens next.
Author's reply
No, he's going to have a massive hangover in the morning, which as his missus realizes, will handily do her job for her. *grin* Tune in next week!
eiluj · 4 July 2012 · Chapter 10
And poor Ox isn't invited to the dinner! Well, that was infinitely more fun than the usual escorting-the-drunken-man-home tale. But then, hobbits were involved.
Author's reply
I am sure that sooner or later he may get to sample hobbit-hospitality. Hobbits make everything more fun!
shirebound · 4 July 2012 · Chapter 10
"I would imagine it made things difficult calling them all to supper," Ox said. The hobbits laughed now, and Jolly said, "It's never difficult to call a hobbit to supper!" Awwww, love that. The hobbits are making wonderful friends, and they're such good ambassadors of the Shirefolk.
Author's reply
They really are! I'm glad you liked that bit. *grin*
Fiondil · 28 June 2012 · Chapter 9
Poor Calmbel, if he only knew. LOL! Hope his wife isn't too hard on him, poor guy. An interesting discussion with the king. I'm glad Mosco is beginning to shine. He felt so useless earlier. I'm sure he'll be a great asset to the king. I hope Aragorn is able to come up with suitable punishments for the two hobbits. It has to be very difficult for him, with his love and admiration of hobbits, to have to deal with these two, but I'm sure he'll come up with a just solution.
Author's reply
She won't be too hard on him, I don't think, not with hobbits to intercede for him! I had always planned for Mosco to be involved in the building of the new Annuminas. It just took me a while to figure out how that was going to come about. Yes; even though he knows very well that not all hobbits are as honorable and good as the ones he knew best, his heart finds it hard to believe-- so having these two bad apples thrust at him is uncomfortable. Also, he knows that in spite of everything, Clodio is close kin to Pippin. Still, he's a very wise King and will find an excellent solution, I assure you!
Tigger · 28 June 2012 · Chapter 9
Soon enough the room was spinning around him, and finally Calembel gave up... "Uh-oh," said Freddy, as he saw Calembel's head hit the table with a thud. Berilac looked at him with a surprised expression. "You would think that such big people could hold their ale better." Mosco shook his head. "How will we get him home? And do any of you know how to get back to the guesthouse from here?" Oh dear. They do have a problem, don't they? ROTFLOL!!! Poor man just doesn't know hobbits enough to know taking them to an inn usually ends up like this. :oD I was so delighted a couple of weeks ago to see this back up on the front page and have loved seeing how our friends from the Shire have been getting on in Minas Tirith. Poor Viola though...I hope Poppy realizes her distraction isn't entirely due to her and Beri's courting. Well, a wee bit, but that part of it is also due to everything she told Beri after that first day visiting the Houses. It *would* be overwhelming to her. Combine that w/the size of everything and...*I* would be overwhelmed if it was me in her place. I sometimes get the feeling Poppy's just so focused on learning new healing methods, she tends to forget that Viola isn't as confident or....I guess "seasoned" is the word I'm looking for. If that makes any sense. I love how Mosco has found his purpose and reason for coming along. If there's one thing hobbits know, other than ale, food and pipeweed, is how to construct smials and hobbit houses. I'm looking forward to seeing him grow in confidence as he starts his new role. And I knew Aragorn would come up w/something that would work as a proper and fitting punishment for those two fools!! I can't wait to learn what he and his Chamberlain come up w/. I also have a feeling that Dago will feel it not only beneath him, but also ill treatment at the hands of Men whatever it is after his meeting w/Beri and Freddy. Clodio OTOH, has now realized just what it was his jealouzy and greed led him to. Too late sadly, but at least I think he will realize his punishment is deserved for what he did to the Shire. At least I hope so. Can't wait to read the next installment and I really hope at some point we see Poppy and Viola have a bit of an informal meeting, like tea or something, w/Aragorn and Arwen. While Poppy's interogating Aragorn, perhaps Arwen could have a chat w/Viola? I just think Viola really needs someone in Minas Tirith outside of the hobbits to realize just how overwhelming the White City is to someone new. Who better than the new Queen? Anyway...I'm just thinking out loud and if I'm throwing a monkey into the already plotted out plan for the story, then just ignore the babbling I'm doing. :o) It's so wonderful to see this back up and going again. Can't wait to see the next part. Especially to see how Freddy and the rest of them get out of this mess. :oD
Author's reply
Well, poor Calembel knows now to pace himself with hobbits! We will definitely be seeing more of Viola's thoughts and feelings. You are throwing no monkey wrenches at all! I am very glad to be working on it again. At least for the foreseeable future I plan to be updating this on Wednesdays. (Monday for "Eleventy-One" and Tue./Thur. for "Ancestress". And as soon as this one gets to a certain point, I will be adding "Cado's Year" to my schedule. But I can't yet, because "Cado" would have spoilers for this one.)
Kaylee Arafinwiel · 27 June 2012 · Chapter 9
Good to see that Aragorn is thinking about how to mete out justice properly, as well as considering his prisoners' health and abilities - not that I expected any less from him! I LOL'ed for a long time at the line about forty years of courtship being the longest any of their kinsmen had needed to go through - luckily no one else was here to be disturbed by it! *grin* And might I just add in, poor Calembel? I wonder what his wife will say...lol... One more thing...I absolutely LOVE hobbit songs! Is "Nob O' The Lea" written out in its entirety somewhere? I'm sure I should know, but unfortunately I have a headache this morning - overslept and took my anticonvulsant nearly two hours late, and that didn't do me any favors *facepalm* I'm sure Miss Dora would be heartily cross - so I think now I'll finish this review and have a bit of Nutella and toast for elevenses before I try to get some more rest. (It would be different if I'd slept *well*. I didn't. Nightmares. :( Ick.) I'll be up in time for luncheon, I'm sure...lol, tell Miss Dora she doesn't have to worry about my eating habits! ~.^ Anyway, enough rambling...toast and Nutella...*shares with Dreamflower* Hugs, Kaylee!
Author's reply
It really is funny to think of someone being engaged for forty years, LOL! Well, I suppose you will find out what she says next week! "Nob O' the Lea" was originally written for a Marigold's Challenge in I think 2004. I don't know why but I don't think I posted it separately here on SoA; however I did use it in its entirety in "The Life of a Bard." ((hugs)) hope you feel better soon, dear! I'm feeling a bit wobbly myself this afternoon.
Larner · 27 June 2012 · Chapter 9
Oh, dear--it does appear that one husband is unconscionably late for dinner now, and it is a joy to know that the Hobbits can outdrink the Men of the King's court! Heh! And Aragorn's idea of asking the Chamberlain for advice on needed jobs is perfect!
Author's reply
I think only Dwarves can out-drink hobbits! LOL! Originally I was going to have Faramir at that meeting-- seemed only natural-- until I remembered that I had sent him off to Ithilien after the welcoming feast! I had a bit of rewriting to do! But the Chamberlain should have a good idea on what needs doing in the Citadel and its environs.
shirebound · 27 June 2012 · Chapter 9
"My brother will insist on a long betrothal for his only daughter!" "If it does not last forty years, it will not be the longest betrothal in the family!" It really is wonderful that he can joke about that now. Calembel felt like a mastiff surrounded by a pack of cheerful terriers *grins*
Author's reply
Yes-- it's easy to joke now that he has the reward for his patience! *grins back* I have to say, I was particularly pleased with that simile. Thanks sweetie!
Whispy · 27 June 2012 · Chapter 9
Oh, poor Calembel. XD How WILL they get him back is a good question indeed. And how will they explain it to his wife, heh heh. Whispy
Author's reply
They do have quite a dilemma, don't they? *grin*
UTfrog · 27 June 2012 · Chapter 9
Somehow, I knew Calembel was in for quite an evening. Do let us know his wife's reaction, which I hope is quite forgiving. Poor guy really could not help it. Delightful chapter, thank you.
Author's reply
Poor guy really could not help it. He had no idea what an evening out with hobbits would entail, LOL! And yes, you will be seeing his wife's reaction next week!
rick · 25 June 2012 · Chapter 8
I am so very glad to see you continue with this story. It's evolving very nicely & I'm glad Mosco has found his niche. Thanks for writing.
Author's reply
Thank you for your review, and for sticking with the story even after so long a hiatus! I hope to be updating much more frequently now! *crosses fingers*
Larner · 21 June 2012 · Chapter 8
I love the courage Mosco has found. And it's wonderful they have granite to trade!
Author's reply
Well, I am extrapolating that there were quarries in Scary for a reason! So it would be a good opportunity for trade.
Grey Wonderer · 20 June 2012 · Chapter 8
Oh, I love seeing these hobbits find their pathes. Mosco surprised me with his nerve in this chapter. I like the way Aragorn put everyone at ease too. Looking forward to more.
Author's reply
Mosco is surprising himself. Aragorn is fond of hobbits, and aside from Gandalf and maybe Elrond, he knows hobbits better than any other Big Person.
Grey Wonderer · 20 June 2012 · Chapter 7
I am so glad to see this one return with new chapters. Sorry it took me so long to get over here and review but I had to do a bit of back-reading. I'm up to speed now and ready to move onward. I loved this chapter, especially the way the hobbits interviewed the guilty ones in order to determine if they were sorry now. Very hobbity of them, wanting to have something good to tell the King even if they can't fix the entire situation. Again, I am very glad to see you writing this one.
Author's reply
I'm so glad to get back to it too! I've been held up by other projects and also by an unruly Muse who never wants to tell me anything in proper order! But I am back on track now and determined to stay that way! Freddy and the others don't want to see the offenders suffer, they just want the right thing done.
UTfrog · 20 June 2012 · Chapter 8
Hurray for Mosco! Glad he found his place. Thanks for answering me about Surgical Steel. She has not posted in her LJ site for some months and I was worried that something was really wrong.
Author's reply
Yes, Mosco is beginning to find his feet now!
Whispy · 20 June 2012 · Chapter 8
I'm really pleased to see this was updated! Very glad Mosco was able to find his calling. Whispy
Author's reply
I'm glad to get back to it after too long away! And I am glad for Mosco as well!
Fiondil · 20 June 2012 · Chapter 8
And so we see more of the interaction of the hobbits with the King and Queen and other people of Gondor. I'm glad Mosco has found his calling. I'm sure he'll do just fine helping to design and build houses for hobbit guests in Annúminas. I'm glad you are still continuing this story, Dreamflwer. I've been enjoying it very much.
Author's reply
Yes, Mosco has found his true calling and his reason for being along. I look forward to showing more of his development.
shirebound · 20 June 2012 · Chapter 8
The buildings here are beautiful, but they will loom uncomfortably if you wish to welcome hobbits. A bold and important comment. These are such wonderful plans! I'm very happy for Mosco.
Author's reply
Planning had to go into these things! I love stories about the rebuilding of the North; I think it's important to show the role hobbits might have had in that process. Perhaps because he is a "Burrows", I've thought his family might at some point have been hole-builders, so I've long planned this particular development.
eiluj · 20 June 2012 · Chapter 8
The hobbits will feel even more secure in Minas Tirith after this comfortable meeting. Wow: Mosco discovers an unexpected purpose in life. I think I remember an allusion to this in another fic. Psst: In the paragraph beginning "Over tea, Freddy and the others filled Mosco and Jolly in on their conversations with the prisoners," an unexpected character makes an appearance....
Author's reply
*grin* Yes, someone else pointed that out to me! I think I got my apprentices confused! It's fixed now, LOL! Yes, there have been a couple of brief allusions in "future-fics" to Mosco's new role.
Fiondil · 12 June 2012 · Chapter 7
I'm so glad you've come back to this story. I've been waiting a long time for this chapter, which I enjoyed very much. I hope you will continue with this and not make us wait too long for the next chapter. *grin*
Author's reply
I hope so too! Sometimes my WIP muse decides to skip ahead of me instead of telling me what happens next, but I am finally back on track, and hope to remain that way for a while! I am so glad you are enjoying it!
UTfrog · 11 June 2012 · Chapter 7
Your update was a wonderful Monday morning surprise! Thank you. I am very happy the delegation is now in Gondor. That you are including Serinde and family is terrific. I am so glad Clodio, etc are getting a very fair hearing. Aragorn has some tough decisions to make. Surgical Steel has not posted on LJ for a very long time. Is she okay? I love her stories, but I am worried that something beyond the pressure of real life has happened. Thanks again for all your wonderful tales.
Author's reply
I was very pleased that SS gave me permission to use her characters, and I hope to do them justice. Aragorn does have some tough decisions to make; he has to be fair and make sure they do receive punishment, but he also wants to be sure that he is merciful-- especially since they were entrusted to his court by Frodo! SS is fine. She no longer posts here, and her stories are taken down here on SoA. However, you can still follow them at the "Many Paths to Tread" archive and also on her LiveJournal "surgsteelfic".
Arwen75 · 11 June 2012 · Chapter 7
Well this was a lovely surprise this morning. I have been re-reading the 2prequels to this on my Kindle while on holiday so I am delighted to have a new chapter to read. Glad to see that the other hobbits feel that Clodio & the Bracegirle are more fools than traitors. At least Clodio is now sorry for what he did. Lovely to see the appearance of Serinde & Thorongil and how they react to Poppy &Viola. But Betilac & Viola do have it bad don't they. Looking forward to seeing what happens when the prisoners face the King.
