At least the Bankses are beginning to see the light, while Dago remains the ass he's been since the beginning. Well, it's almost over for them now.
Author's reply
A very good description for Dago!
Well, the sentencing will be along soon. But there will be more to their story!

Permit me to indulge in some (stifled, as it's past midnight) joyful, fangirlish squeeing! *grin* I was beginning to think this would NEVER be updated again!! More fool I to doubt YOU, Dreamflower! *hangs head in shame* But I love, love love this chapter! Ah, yes, fools - but their naivete cannot wholly excuse their treachery, I think! Oh, Serinde and Thorongil! *is glad SS has let you borrow them* I do love Thorongil! :)
This chapter has (slightly) increased my patience for the next Ancestress update! *grin* You know me...(and you know, in reply to one of your responses on THAT story...no, I wouldn't be surprised if I was part Hobbit! I'm short, I love food, I'm somewhat overweight...heh! And I did feel half starved when I was in school and they didn't give us enough time for Proper Meals...I remember Miss Dora agonizing over that! :P)
Hugs,
Kaylee!!
Author's reply
You may squee all you like, dear! I was beginning to think the same. I had a number of scenes written, but they needed much connecting material to turn them into a real chapter. This series tends to do that to me: even back in "Road to Edoras" my muse would skip ahead on me, rather than tell me what happened next, LOL! And it is doing the same thing with this one. *sigh*
The prisoners really were very foolish. Dago remains a fool, but Clodio is beginning to see the light.
And I am glad she allowed me to borrow them as well!
*grin* With your love for genealogy and all, I am QUITE sure you are at least PART hobbit!

Hi, Dreamflower - I love the new chapter - glad to see your take on Serinde. Looking forward to more as always. T
Author's reply
Hello dear! I only just saw this today!
I was so glad that SS agreed to let me use her characters. My Serinde is just a little AU to hers, as our timelines on certain things are a bit different. But I am trying to keep her "in character" by running her scenes by SS before I post.

I was very glad to see another chapter to this - I'll have to remember to check oftener. It's going very well. Thanks for writing and please keep going.
Author's reply
I will always keep going! Sometimes it goes slowly, but I do have hopes of updating more frequently now.

Finally had time to read this. I enjoyed Berilac's disappointment at not being able to breakfast with Viola - I suspect he's going to be rising much earlier from here on out. I also enjoyed Jolly and Mosco's tour of the city. Mosco is an observant hobbit, and it was kind of him to befriend Jolly. I'm curious to see what the Banks brothers have to speak about with Clodio.
Author's reply
I am finally seeing a bunch of reviews belatedly! I don't know how I missed them...
Yes, he may start getting up a little earlier...
I am hoping that Jolly and Mosco will have a lot more to do in this story!
And the conversation with Clodio is now up! Finally!

It was fun to see Serindë in this. I wasn't expecting it but it works so very well with the healers and their purpose.
I like Mosco more and more. I like how observant he is. He would make a good detective I do believe. : )
Author's reply
Years ago (back before I even finished "Road to Edoras", I left a little comment in SS's LJ about Serinde meeting Mistress Poppy. Everyone liked it, so I asked SS if it was OK to borrow her character when I got to that part of the tale.
Mosco is very observant, and especially of the buildings and such. He's going to grow into his own in this story, I hope.

Awwwww, the romance continues! I just love these two together. Berilac is a darling and Viola is just so shy and sweet. They are perfect together.
Author's reply
I think so! I am not much of a "romance writer" but taking it in bits as part of a larger story, I am quite enjoying these two, with their slow and hobbity courtship.

I love this word, 'gentrified'. hehehehehe
And I should have known there would be recipies!

"Gentrified" is a fun word. Frodo did it to Sam, and now Denny and Rolly are in the same boat...
If ever I can get them in, I will, you know I will, LOL!

A very nice start to their friendship in spite of the topic. I just know that Aragorn is going to like Freddy. : )
Author's reply
Of course he will. Good old Strider has a soft spot for hobbits, and he knows this particular one is a good friend to Frodo and the others. And Freddy is a very likable fellow...

Sounds like a very safe prison.
I wonder what Freddy will have to say on the subject of dealing with the prisoners? He is such a kind-hearted hobbit, I suspect it will be difficult for him.
Author's reply
They won't be climbing out the window, anyhow!
Freddy is very kind-hearted. Much like Frodo, he can sympathize with what they are going through, but he also has a sense of justice and knows they can't just be allowed to get away with what they did, either.

Dear, dear, Freddy. He is so very worried about doing the proper thing. Sometimes I think he is related to Sam.
Author's reply
Well, of course all hobbits have a certain sense of propriety. Sam's came from the Gaffer. Freddy's mum is Rosamunda, who is very much worried about "what's proper", so yeah, there is certainly a sort of connection.

Oh, I had been wondering if you're ever going to continue this, so I was happy to see an update!
To see Sardos and Serindë here is certainly another surprise :) Sardos is right, he sent the Hobbits to the one person in the Houses of Healing who would be the most delighted to see Hobbits again.
Nice look at Minas Tirith through the eyes of Jolly and Mosco. For them this huge city has to be quite intimidating, and I can well imagine that they may find the buildings impressing, but not green enough. It's such a difference to the Shire. And of course they had to end up in the bakery :D Just reading that bit made me hungry, too. It reminded me so of my last holiday in Cornwall – tea and scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam. Yummy!
Now I'm curious about the visit with the prisoners. I hope we don't have to wait too long to learn more!
Author's reply
It's been going in fits and starts. I've had lots written, but much of it was not consecutive. With such a large cast of characters it's difficult to get everybody in sometimes!
I'm so glad you enjoyed the appearance of Sardos and Serinde. I am very grateful to SS for the loan of her characters.
I am hoping to give Mosco and Jolly more to do in this story! I'm glad you enjoyed their little tour! (and your tea in Cornwall sounds yummy!)
As you see-- it's up now!

I was reading this one through, thinking, "She didn't... did she? Oh, wait a second..." And then you did. Amusing cameo, and of course I'm looking forward to more!
Author's reply
I'm just finding a ton of reviews I never saw before.
And yes, I did. The cameo began as a little "comment fic" in SS's LJ, and afterwards I asked her if I could use it when the time came.
And more has come...FINALLY!

I must say it was interesting to see Sardos here, so Serinde wasn't as great a surprise as she might have been. And playing hostess to a pair of female Hobbit healers would be right up her alley, I'd think!
Am looking forward to more!

Yes, where Sardos shows up, it's likely that Serinde would as well!

Very happy to see more of this.
Also happy that the Banks brothers decided to visit Clodio.
Despite having just finished a late lunch not so long ago, I was envying Jolly and Mosco their elevenses. I shall have to make do with raw figs, though -- not quite up to cooking with them yet.

"I’d like to see more of it, but I would feel very strange about going alone." -- Not sure if you intended about going alone or going about alone, but I figured I'd mention it in case it's a typo.
Author's reply
Hi! I just found several reviews that I never noticed before!
I hope your figs were good, LOL!
No, it was "about going alone"-- it was the "going alone" that he felt strange about and not the "going about"...but thanks for mentioning it, because it made me look at the phrase differently. I am sure that truly it was both things that disconcerted him!

Seems all of the hobbits did enjoy not only the food, but the company as well. And I like the talk between Mosco and Faramir at the White Tree. It's good to see the understanding between them.
Why do I get the feeling Beri and Viola were the two hobbits to enjoy the feast the most? ;-)
Author's reply
I enjoyed writing the scene with Mosco and Faramir. Mosco is, I think, going to come into his own while in Minas Tirith.
*grin* I think they just enjoy each other, LOL!

· Chapter 4
To see the whole house adapted to their size and their cook instructed not to be offended when they want to cook themselves should make a good impression on the hobbits. I'm sure at this rate they will feel at home soon.
Having Rolly and Denny sitting with Menelcar, who knows more about hobbits than the average Gondorian and even has visited the Shire before was a good idea. I'm sure it helped them to be more at ease during the feast (if they need more than good food for that, that is ;-))
Author's reply
Well, of course Aragorn and Faramir would do everything in their power to make sure that the hobbits would be comfortable; after all, they are all of them friends and kin to the four hobbits of the Fellowship!
And yes, having Menelcar around is also going to be good for the hobbits!

· Chapter 3
Aragorn's easy manner has to be comforting for the hobbits – no need to be in overawe of the king. And I think what he said about the death sentence did a lot to reassure Freddy and Beri.
Mr. White? Of course, Saruman the White ... one wonders if he changed that name to Mr. Multicolour in the end? *eg*
The discussion about the papers telling more about all these machinations and how far they went back was interesting. But I have to agree; while it was treason what Lotho and his accomplices did, I doubt they ever expected or wanted things to go as far as they did in the end.
Author's reply
I'm only just now finding a whole bunch of reviews!
I am sure it reassured them a lot. The state of Gondorian law, of course, was the main reason that the two younger prisoners were tried in Rohan instead. Rohan's weregild system meant that there was more flexibility for Eomer to deal with them instead of Aragorn.
*giggle* I think by the time he became "Mr. Multicolor" he had other things on his mind!
No, I don't think any of the traitors knew they were traitors; they were far in over their heads!

It is very enjoyable to see Aragorn's court through Hobbit eyes. I imagine similiar bathtubs.I'm always forgetting the Standing Silence and admire those who remember!
Author's reply
Yes-- I have this kind of "Roman" idea of Gondor, in a way, and so I think of them as having sort of "bathing pools" rather than the sort of "bathtubs" that are described in the Shire. (The ones at Crickhollow were of copper!)
I try to remember about the Standing Silence. But sometimes it's hard to remember all the details, especially when they interrupt the flow of story!

I like the idea of Ivriniel being a hobbitish lady in the style of Aunt Dora. :)
The White Tree passage fits very well in here.
And what's that they're dancing at the end - a waltz?
Author's reply
As I imagine her, very much like Aunt Dora; proper and a little prim, but good-hearted underneath it all.
And I'm glad my White Tree story fits; it's what I'd intended all along, but I was afraid it might not transition well.
Er...well, I am sure that they *call* it something else...but, yes. *blushes*
