iiiionly · 12 May 2010 · Chapter 9999: Epilogue: Put a Fork In It

So ... sadly I have come to the end of this wonderful tale upon whose quest Thundera Tiger sent me. And what a no hands! roller coaster ride it has been! I have laughed like a hyena, snorted like a troll, sighed like a love lorn maiden and spilt tears a plenty over my keyboard. From flaming beards to Borafora, to that prancing vanity of a horse, to spiders chasing squirrels 'round a soap waxed floor - I stayed up way into the night trying to read just one more chapter (before I HAVE to go to bed) every night for the last four nights. This was an epic adventure to rival the original one! So I have to say, this reminded me of a Shrek movie, where there's lots of in-your-face hilarity, but many subtle wink, wink homages as well - like Gandalf talking to the rabbits (I was sooooooooooo seeing my favorite Hare thumping his adorable big feet as he blushes via a Disney paint brush), not to mention Shadowfax's hilarious Puss-n-Boots vanity, and those are just the ones I can think of right off the top of my head. I also have to say, I was hardpressed not to skip straight from the soaped floor boards to the Mirkwood King's suppression of ignomy within his halls, by the sons of his own loins! I admit I raced through the northern contingent chapters to get to the wrathbuster scene and was rewarded beyond measure. Thranduil's ire was wonderful to behold, but his subsequent talk with Legolas aterwards, had rivers of tears threatening the Last Bridge. I'm new to LOTR fan fiction, though not the fandom, so this rollicking ride with Lord Glorfindel (sorry, new computer, can't figure out how to go back and check spellings without losing my place in this love letter), Legalos and Gimili, OH! and Aragorn sleeping with Orcs! had me splitting my guts. The cat has refused to reside in the same room as I for the last four nights. For all it's hilarity though, this was not just a laugh-a-minute page turner; the sober storyline woven throughout, Mirkwood in pain, Mirkwood's heir in even deeper pain, the travail of the very earth itself as the shadows encroach further and further into the lands of Middle Earth is emotively portrayed throughout the entire story. A incredibly woven, incredibly intricate word tapestry that moved me beyond words. I will be rereading this again and again. And looking for more stories by bryn. May the blessing of nimble fingers, attending a nimble mind, upon a stellar keyboard continue to flow forth for us lesser mortals to enjoy!

Kara's Aunty · 21 November 2008 · Chapter 10: To Kill a Dwarf

Hello bryn, One of my favourite lines so far: “Stop being so thick-headed, you old bat!” Very funny to have Gandalf address the regal Lord of Elrond thus! And Boromir with his twitching shoulder LOL. The image of all those nasty crebain digging sharp beaks and claws into tender hobbit flesh was painful to say the least. But among the many, many amusing ones were: Gimli's punishment at his father's hands; Aragorn and Boromir trying to think up casual ways to break the ice, anything with Shadowfax in it; Legolas and Gimli's silent treatment contest; the owl and the bunnies... Well, the list goes on and on. You have an excellent sense of humour - I am thoroughly enjoying it! M ;)

Kara's Aunty · 21 November 2008 · Chapter 5: Flight From Rivendell

Hello bryn, Every chapter so far is delightful. You have the personalities of the characters spot on - an impressive task for a story which may contain two or three main ones, but even more so considering the sheer amount of people in this story and the various races they stem from. I applaud you. Tut, tut, Gimli for throwing rocks like a sneaky lad! I'm surprised at the rascal! Wait until his father finds out how dishonourable he was, and under the roof of their gracious Elven host, too (laughs in gleeful anticipation). May I suggest that in the chapter titled 'Flight from Rivendell' (which was hysterical - the eventual message received by Frodo was priceless) that 'two cents' looks a bit out-of-place? Perhaps 'contribution' or some other non-contemporary word would represent Pippin's eagerness to be included just as well? I'm loving this story! M ;)

Kara's Aunty · 21 November 2008 · Chapter 2: THIS is the Fate of Middle-earth?

Hello bryn, I laughed at Gandalf's inappropriately timed mirth and Elrond's jolt from the gravity of their situation to join him. Frodo and his leaf - very poignant. That leaf could have been either a symbol of his slowly growing lust for the Ring or the inevitability of his own fate after the conclusion of the Quest. Beautifully done! M ;)

Kara's Aunty · 21 November 2008 · Chapter 1: Disagreeable Characters

Hello there! I don't know if you still get reviews sent to you (this story's a few years old), but I'll leave one anyway. Your Glóin is so deliciously Dwarven! His speech, mannerisms, thought processes (I mean, all those colourful names for Elves - excellent). And I could almost see the look of disgust on the Elves' faces as he fiddled with his pipe - whether he lit it or not. Great job! M ;)

Aranel of the Golden Flower · 5 May 2007 · Chapter 19: Highlands and Lows

I was reading out some of the phrases in this chapter thinking that it sounded like french! It is also a little like a mix of Flemish/dutch, with a little of scots gaelic in it. Je parle francais et Gaelic, et mon ami Anton parle hollandais! je présume tu parle francais ou Je vous ai probablement confondu!

Noor · 9 September 2006 · Chapter 99999: Author Acknowledgements

I loved this yarn. It had everything; humour, drama, action, slapstick and pathos. All the characters were well drawn and it was wonderful to have a tale set just before the journey to end all journeys. Many thanks! Noor

amasa · 24 April 2006 · Chapter 4: Just Add Water

Sorry, but I have to correct you. Elves have been slain by dwarves: In the sack of Menegroth during the First Age.

Noor · 9 March 2006 · Chapter 99999: Author Acknowledgements

A brilliant yarn! I am really impressed. I have read a lot of fan fiction on this site by now....and I loved your tale. It had action, humour and pathos. Thank you very much! When are you going to finish the other tale?? Thanbks again Noor

docmon · 6 October 2004 · Chapter 36: A Madness to the Method

*cackle, snort, giggle* "When Orcs fly!" LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And then *insert whistling noise* they do!! I *love* that Aragorn mutters, 'didn't see that coming' after a moment. Just hilarious!

docmon · 6 October 2004 · Chapter 33: Heroes of a Smaller Sort

What i really loved from this chapter was Frodo's thoughts as he wandered, before finding Gandalf. 'Hobbits were not meant to carry the weight of the world. It was too big and he was too small.' That was beautiful, so poignant. It says so much of what Frodo goes through. And this is even before they leave Rivendell... And then... 'The hobbit took one miserable step forward... One step for Merry... For Pippin. ... He would walk for them—his dearest friends... for the Shire... for those who had hope—even though he was not one of them.' That was just so touching, so telling of Frodo's bravery - and his motivation. He did it all for them, even losing the Shire, as he did in the end. Wonderful writing!

docmon · 6 October 2004 · Chapter 32: Please Do Not Feed the Spiders

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bryn, you're killing me here, you know? I was so glad I was reading this on my lunch hour (boring job answering phones, so I read at work!) because I was just laughing out loud at this point. The image of the squirrels and spiders running after each other, completely ignoring the floundering elves (a ridiculous image itself) and an irate dwarf (beardless) was too, too much. But the image of Legolas pulled up by the scruff of his neck by Thranduil, ooooh, that was something. They're in for it now!!! mon

docmon · 5 October 2004 · Chapter 23: In Reverence of the Mountain Elves

Locked up by an Elven lord/Til he began to mould... *monica is glad she prints out her stories or her keyboard would be fried* LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, that was it! That was just... *gasp* too much! *gasp* *monica trails off into giggles as she thinks about Elrond finishing the song for Merry* I'll try again when I can breath...

docmon · 5 October 2004 · Chapter 19: Highlands and Lows

"lasta berta nin hilo jigger thingy woooo" ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ahh, *wipes tears from eyes* that was too funny. And Shadowfax, I never knew he had such an attitude (smirk)! He just about killed me when he decided Gandalf was a madman. Served him right for Gandalf to take the Elven mare. hmph! monica

docmon · 5 October 2004 · Chapter 11: The Brilliance of Legolas

LOL I have to say, this is a *funny* prank - even though Legolas is going to catch hell for it!! Terrific story so far - such fun! monica

Kitt of Lindon · 18 May 2004 · Chapter 29: The First of Many Partings

I like how you describe their way of making arrows, making sure they are flawless. That sounds very like them. I don't suppose if I were in their place, I would have thrown a few rocks at Boromir too. Very good chapter.

Kitt of Lindon · 18 May 2004 · Chapter 28: Off of the Mountain and Into the Woods

Ah, so Boromir has got a girlfriend after all. I like the explanation for 'The Singing Mumuk' and "Hog's Head'. I would never have thought something like that. (And Legolas' nickname is oh so appropriate.)

Kitt of Lindon · 12 May 2004 · Chapter 27: Wrong Impressions

So Shadowfax has a mirror in his stable, that's too funny. The King of the Mearas gets what he deserves by bloating and welting. (Perhaps it will deflate his head a bit? Maybe not.) The drama with Frodo and co. was ingenious; “Two against one, Mister Frodo.” Sam’s face grew grim as he squinted into the sky. “And this isn’t about just us hobbits anymore. It’s a lot bigger than that. We’ve got everyone in Middle-earth to look out for, too.”

Kitt of Lindon · 12 May 2004 · Chapter 26: Lost and Found

Yes, yes. I've been out of the reviewing mode for a while. And probably to your dismay, I am out of it. I was very worried and wondering how you were going to get Boromir out of this one! A bit of your one history on Legolas' family is very interesting. I like his brothers. Heh-heh..

Kitt of Lindon · 6 May 2004 · Chapter 25: The Bear, the Rangers, and Their Wardrobe

Several women may have fainted at Boromir's fish impresion, but I cracked up. And I thought I was the only one who liked 'Boz'.

Kitt of Lindon · 6 May 2004 · Chapter 24: If You Give a Dwarf an Arrow

Ai! What has Gimli done now? Poor Legolas is getting beat up quite nastily by the Dwarf. (Ah, but I did like Halbarad's plan.)

Kitt of Lindon · 3 May 2004 · Chapter 22: Fatherly Love and the Frodohobbit

Hmmm, spell it backwards? I must remmember that.

Kitt of Lindon · 3 May 2004 · Chapter 21: Trial and Errors, Part II

An even worse picture than Glorfindel with burnt locks is Gimli with a bow. Err, I guess Boromir's plan was a bit of a failure?

Kitt of Lindon · 27 April 2004 · Chapter 20: Trial and Errors, Part I

Glorfindel with burnt hair is not a pretty picture. Though it isn't kind to laugh at other's misfortune, I must take a moment to laugh ceaselessly at Barin. *laughs ceaselessly* Who would have thought Denethor read romance novals? How can he stand it? Boromir's train of thought about um, Mysian, is well, crazyish. I liked the little history lesson on the Foul Winter and the deer.

Kitt of Lindon · 27 April 2004 · Chapter 19: Highlands and Lows

The Hobbit's confusion is so...gratifying. And ingenious. Here's my favorite line in the chapter- 'Merry snickered to himself. He set his face again and continued talking “in Elrond,” as he termed it. “I am a great healer. I order you to rot here in bed. Now I shall mutter my Elvish words of healing: lasta berta nin hilo jigger thingy woooo.”'
