This wedding is getting so complicated. I just hope that Glorfindel didn't remember this wedding because Aragorn and Arwen wedding was that bad!
Author's reply
Hi Fantasiai. It is indeed getting complicated, and I'm writing it. LOL! I think Glorfindel remembered this wedding just because it was on the same day as Aragorn and Arwen's wedding but that is the only thing the two have in common. Thanks for taking the time to read and review. I appreciate it very much.

Way to go Arafinwe! The best place for that china is a deep dark hole somewhere, maybe Aule has a star core he can recomend or Varda has a black hole to spare?
Almariel is, unfortunately, one of those people whose taste is all in the mouth, though she did have the good sense to marry Castamir and give birth to Amarie!
I do believe that Amarie has had enough of her mother's 'interferance' and has fled for the hills to get away from her, she will show up bright eyed and bushy tailed in time for the wedding, have no fear about that Finrod and probably with her own wedding clothes!
Now just what does Irmo need Finrod for in Lorien, I know, I know, wait till next wednesday?!
Huggs,
Lynda
Author's reply
Hi Lynda. You're probably right about the reason for Amarië's flight. We'll eventually see what that is all about. And we'll see soon enough why Irmo needs Finrod in Lórien, I promise. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Sooo, Tulka's people don't want to take on the three brothers with swords sheathed, even when the odds favor the Maia almost seven to one? Interesting!
Irmo made a good choice to send Olorin to fetch Findarato. I hate to think how the situation would have deteriorated, what with Arafinwe and his sons in the mood they were in, if anyone else had been sent.
So now I wonder if there will be some sort of reunion in Lorien, or if all heck is about to break loose in Tirion and the Valar have spirited the bride and groom away to keep them safe and out of the fray? Almariel and the ill wishes of others may have been safely dealt with after the wedding, but those dishes seem to have been the straw that broke an awful lot of camels' backs. Or maybe the bride and groom will need to undergo some sort of trial-by-combat thing to prove themselves worthy of marriage?
This is a good, make-one-think chapter, Fiondil. Any chance I can talk you into posting a second chapter today? Pretty please?
Author's reply
Hi Tkid. The Valar usually know what they are doing and Olórin is a very good choice as their go-between with Finrod. As for what the purpose of Finrod being summoned to Lórien, that will be seen in the next chapter.
And I'm afraid this story is being posted one chapter a week. Sorry.

The lottery for seating sounds fair enough, I must say. Now, to play with clay! And I do hope the lesson for the linguists takes! I'm interested to see what form it will take.
Author's reply
Yes, the lottery is fair and many are already used to a 'seating lottery' in their Council meetings so they shouldn't be offended. I'm not sure if we will actually see the lesson for the linguists in this story unfortunately, as it's a side issue but you never know when it might show up in another story. I would be interested in knowing what form the lesson takes, myself. *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing, Larner. I appreciate it.

What is it with Almariel and pink and green, does she want them to blend in with the china?
Poor ellyn, what a thing to remember, as they say it can take just a colour or a noise or a smell to bring back memories one would, sometimes, rather forget.
Well at least they all ahd a fun time working and playing with the clay!
Huggs,
Lynda
Author's reply
Hi Lynda. I'm not sure what is up with Almáriel. Maybe she's color-blind. *grin*
I know from my own experience that a color, a noise or a smell or just about anything can bring back memories that you never thought were there. I remember watching the Berlin Wall coming down on TV and suddenly 'finding' myself standing on the tarmac of the local airbase with the smell of melting tar in my nostrils (it was July) watching the B-52s coming in, my Dad being on one of them. His National Guard unit had been sent to Europe during the Berlin crisis and he'd been gone since the previous November. I was 7 at that time and until I watched the Wall coming down, I'd completely forgotten about that. It was incredible to re-experience that scene some 30 years later.
Anyway, it's always fun to play with clay. *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

In the right hands, a pattern such as that could be quite beautiful. Obviously, the coloring, patterning, and painting was not done by the rignt hands and was badly designed all together. I think they should hold a china-smashing party. Smashing plates can be wonderfully cathartic, and the shards can then be mixed with other items for wonderfully creative mosaic work. Just a thought, my friend....
As always, a delightful chapter from one of my favorite authors.
- Erulusse (one L)
Author's reply
Hi Erulisse. you are correct that in the right hands any pattern can be quite beautiful, and it's hard to imagine any Elf making something ugly, and actually, I don't think the pattern itself is ugly, just unfortunate in how certain Reborn react to the color combination. I like your idea of making the shards into a mosaic. And I'm glad you found the chapter delightful. Thanks for letting me know. I really appreciate it.

Atto,
I have to agree with Earwen; Almariel has neither taste or sense. In fact she seems to be trying to be the mother-in-law from Angamando on purpose. Is she trying to sabotage her own daughter's happiness, or is she just an idiot? Maybe Irmo, Namo, Vaire and their respective Maiar can give her some tips on color and design...and I'm sure Este would like input. The Children aren't getting any rest with efforts like this to sabotage the wedding. Here's hoping Finda and the others can salvage it...next Wednesday can't get here fast enough!!
Tye-melin tenn'Ambar-metta,
Kaylee
Author's reply
Hi Kaylee. Yes, Almáriel does seem to have bad taste. I think she is just not thinking and perhaps she is exacting revenge on Finrod for deserting her daughter the first time. I think she's become bitter over the centuries, since she doesn't appear to be that way when we see her in Darkness. Oh well....
Anyway, I think once this wedding is officially done with, she may just mellow, especially when Finrod and Amarië start giving her grandkids. *grin*
Thanks for reading and reviewing, yendenya. Tye-melin.

Wretched china indeed! Did you imagine using that china in the wedding and all of the former warriors having flashback episodes? What a disaster!
And we finally found out how Intarion died. He was saving Arafinwë. I'm not surprise that he went to ME with the host, he loved Finrod and maybe he was looking for him. What a shock must have been to get there and find out that he was already dead. Arafinwë never said anything about this; he lost his cousin that day. Ingwon went too? I don't remember if you ever said about him.
The Ingil name confussion always make me laugh.
it could be a good story to see Arafinwë and Intarion reaction to the news of all his family (except Artanis) was dead. Meaning sons, brother, nephews, nieces, almost everybody. Most of the family survivors were unknown to them.
Author's reply
Hi Fantasia. It would certainly be a disaster if that china triggered massive flashbacks among the Reborn.
Ingwion did not go to Middle-earth. He was forbidden by both his father and Arafinwë, which is why Intarion went in his place. The reason why Ingwion was not allowed to go is hinted at in Book Two of Elf, Interrupted and more explicitly shown in In Darkness Bound.
Thanks for the story suggestion. It certainly has merit. I'll keep it in mind for the future. And thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.

Fiondil,
How very beautifully sad. Wonderfully written and expressive. I often wonder do we think of how war scars the soul. ***sighs***. Interestingly enough I think Glorifindel vision moved me the most, I guess I always think of him as so strong and stoic when not happy. never vulnerable.
Sador, As a Amme to 4 mortal children simply find some elflings (the ellyn variety works well) and tell them they may play with any thing in the crates. Then explain to Almariel that the crates must have mistakenly gotten mixed up and the china is done. Thank her for the gift and tell her it made a memorable impression. which technically isn't a lie but will need to be said with a straight face.
Author's reply
Hi eliza. Thanks for the suggestion about what to do with the china. We'll have to see what they end up doing. Glorfindel's memory was very poignant and it shows that he can indeed be vulnerable just like the rest of us. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

Best chapter title ever! I laughed as soon as i read it. Is it bad I thought everyone's responses to the chinaware was funny?
Maybe Arafinwe can convince Almariel the dinnerware fell off the cart during delivery?

Glad you liked the title, Tkid. I had to work on it for a bit until I got it just right. · Chapter 18: In Which the Wedding China is Unveiled and Many are Distraught
Finrod, Glorfindel and Intarion's reactions would certainly be a good reason for the wedding china to not be used - quite aside from the fact that it was evidently a spectacularly ugly design! It just would not do for the Reborn - of whom one is the groom, at that! - to have a Reborn reaction in the middle of the wedding because of the decoration on the wedding china! And it could be quite spectacular reactions, too, since the three of them were immediately reminded of blood spattered on a green surface.
I don't think Almariel would understand that kind of reason, though, especially if she has had little or no contact with Reborn herself.
Let us hope that cooler heads - and better taste - triumphs! It wouldn't surprise me if Sador decides to arrange for something that is less likely to cause such reactions. And that goes better with his gift to the happy couple!
Author's reply
Hi Sunny. I doubt Arafinwe will allow that china to see the light of day any time soon. *grin* And you're right, that Almariel wouldn't understand. We'll have to see how it goes. Hopefully, as you say, cooler heads and better taste will triumph. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

Oh, I want to go play with clay.... How fun! I like the thought that the Valar could, if they wanted, mingle with the other attendees at the wedding. I'm quite sure they have minimal opportunities to do so in fana and might well enjoy the opportunity. At least most of them. The only attendees who will really welcome Namo, though, will mostly be in the Pavillion tent as members of the wedding party. Poor Namo - I'm sending him a big hug ahead of time :-)

Plans, plans and plans. My, that Royal wedding is really a Royal pain.....I'm sure that it will be beautiful at the end, as I'm sure that the Bride and Groom won't remember anything and won't eat anything of the marvelous banquet. Next, they should do a buffet, it will be better than serving everyone independently. Please, send my recommendation to the Queen.
And those loremasters...so arrogants.

Atto,
I did wonder if I should still be eating my breakfast when I read the words "In Which Finrod Makes A Confession..." *Grin* It turns out I didn't lose any of it from laughing, though it was a close thing - Chocolate Mini-Wheats are just harder to lose than some, I guess. *giggles* Anyway, Finrod's confession was well done and the seating arrangements...well, that reminded me of the meetings the Valar arranged!!! I'm glad the practice has been adopted. It's a fun one. Ooh, wouldn't it be good if the head of every group was a Reborn? Well except for the Valar of course, but you know. *grin*

Instead of running off to the internet and looking it up myself... Please to explain for us 'seating above and below the salt cellar'. You have used that reference more than once in your fics, and have given me a curious. ^_^
Author's reply
Hi Angwen. The term "seated above or below the salt" is from the medieval period of Europe. Salt was a precious commodity and usually reserved for the high table. Thus, those who were eating "above the salt" were the nobility, while the rest ate "below the salt", referring to the salt cellars placed on the high table in a feast hall. Does that make sense?

That's right, I don't remember Glorfindel putting R.S.V.P. or the Quenya equivilant on the invitations he sent.
I kind of like the suggestion of pavilions in the park for the wedding feast, at least that way nobody will feel left out as they might have if they were forced to eat in the gardens.
While Quenya and Sinderin might have the same roots, I don't regard them as the same language, but then I am not a linguist, I leave that to you, so what do I know? Having all apprentacies learn Sinderin will go a long way to bringing the people of Tol Eressea and Aman together or maybe not, look at England and America, two countries devided by a common language, of which I am fairly fluent in both!
Huggs,
Lynda
p.s. About halfway through cutting out costumes, hope to finish today, then start sewing.
Author's reply
Hi Lynda. No, Glorfi forgot the R.S.V.P. bit, which is why Eärwen has gone "Valar? Who invited Valar?" as she's been counting off the replies. *grin*
Quenya and Sindarin are not the same language, no more than English and German are, but they are both derived from the same Proto-Germanic language of antiquity. For the loremasters who study languages, they recognize that Sindarin is an off-shoot of the Common Eldarin spoken back when the Elves were at Cuiviénen, but that it has drifted from the original root language further than Quenya has and so for them it is a debased language. Rather arrogant of them, of course, but considering it was Fëanor who founded the school, not very surprising.
Anyway, glad you're making great progress on the costumes. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.
