both of whose Lights had been brightly polished by the Ring that had sought to tarnish them instead. What an interesting thought. I do believe that by the end Frodo had become a candle, set afire by Light and Dark, by his love for all Middle-earth for which he was suffering and by God's love for him, and also burning upon the wheel of fire, a figure 'clothed in flame' as Sam saw in the Tower. But I hadn't thought of Sam's light being polished as well, but indeed by his sacrificial love, he would have shone brighter. Evil defeats itself when it sought to destroy those who opposed it but instead brought out their hidden strengths. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Antane · 9 February 2012 · Chapter 5: Estel Comes with the Rising of a Star
The tide turns. What a cool chapter, Gil-Estel indeed. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Antane · 9 February 2012 · Chapter 3: The Light Shadowed
Another sad but willed choice. Alas for them both who were created for such light and greatness and forsook them for black night instead. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Antane · 9 February 2012 · Chapter 2: The Light Darkened and then Restored
Sad, but it was his own choice. He could have indeed chosen to remain light-bearer but did not. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Antane · 9 February 2012 · Chapter 1: And Let There Be Light!
Finally, finally getting to this, sorry it's been so long! This is most interesting. I knew Elbereth made the stars but hadn't thought of the planets and that all those around her took part in that. Neat! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Linda Hoyland · 24 January 2012 · Chapter 8: The Glory of Simple Loves
It is lovely to see Frodo get the honour he deserves so richly.
Author's reply
He and those I believe he considered brothers of the heart all deserved so much honor, so I try to make certain they get it at intervals! Heh! Thanks so, Linda.
shirebound · 22 January 2012 · Chapter 8: The Glory of Simple Loves
What an ethereal, magical scene.
Author's reply
Again, I've taken one scene I wrote long ago and looked at it from the point of view of those approaching the glade, come to greet the Ringbearer. Thank you for the response, and thank Soledad for reminding me of the name of the Suruli, who were imagined by Tolkien as indicated in the Books of Lost Tales.
Tari · 17 January 2012 · Chapter 7: The Light of the King Returned
Isn't that just the kind of man Aragorn was. He was a humble man rather than an arrogant one, which is why he was so loved by all.
Author's reply
I so agree, Tari!
Linda Hoyland · 15 January 2012 · Chapter 7: The Light of the King Returned
I just loved this glimpse of Aragorn. You captured him perfectly.
Author's reply
Oh, I'm so glad you think so, Linda. Thank you so!
harrowcat · 15 January 2012 · Chapter 7: The Light of the King Returned
Wonderful writing about a perfect moment Larner. My favourite line was the same as Shirebound's.
Author's reply
That Aragorn decided to be crowned in this manner says volumes about his character, which was of the very highest. Thanks so, Harrowcat.
shirebound · 15 January 2012 · Chapter 7: The Light of the King Returned
In the end he did not take the Kingship, but instead accepted it as a sacred trust. What a moment! This is the true King indeed.
Author's reply
Indeed so, Shirebound! The King we have all wished to know, I think. One who rules not of his own power, but out of love for those who granted him his title and responsibilities. Thanks so!
shirebound · 15 January 2012 · Chapter 4: The Spirit of Fire Answers the Lord of Darkness
This is a very powerful piece. ? Those Trees created by his fellows—they were an affront to his eyes, for he had not taken part in their crafting. Indeed, those with malice in their hearts take no joy in the success or accomplishments of others.
Author's reply
So it has ever been, apparently. Thank you so!
Linda Hoyland · 12 January 2012 · Chapter 6: The Servant of the Secret Flame
These are just beautiful pieces. I enjoyed them very much.
Author's reply
I so rejoice that you do, Linda. Thanks so!
Tari · 11 January 2012 · Chapter 6: The Servant of the Secret Flame
IMO, you have captured the essence of Gandalf beautifully. I so enjoyed reading this. Congrats.
Author's reply
I so rejoice you think so. How strange it must have felt to him, to find himself once more able to put off a seeming and go between spiritual and physical forms! And he goes accompanied by two of his beloved Hobbits.
Ellynn · 11 January 2012 · Chapter 6: The Servant of the Secret Flame
Aww, such a beautiful portrait of Gandalf. You did a wonderful job here, Larner. :)
Author's reply
Thank you so, Ellynn. I do love the Grey Wanderer, after all.
Agape4Gondor · 10 January 2012 · Chapter 6: The Servant of the Secret Flame

Author's reply
I am most honored, Agape. Thank you so!
shirebound · 10 January 2012 · Chapter 6: The Servant of the Secret Flame
the staff that held that of his power and memories he had no immediate need of What a marvelous way to say that. This is a lovely, inspiring piece.
Author's reply
I've always believed the staff held that part of the Wizard's memories and power that would be part of his Maiar background, and that this was why the breaking of it would be so devastating, leaving him trapped in the mortal form without the ability to shift back when the right time came. Thanks so, Shirebound!
harrowcat · 10 January 2012 · Chapter 6: The Servant of the Secret Flame
This is a wonderful biography Larner and a wonderful ending too!
Author's reply
I'm so glad you find it so, Harrowcat. Thanks so!
Siiw · 8 January 2012 · Chapter 5: Estel Comes with the Rising of a Star
This explains the part of the original story that has been hard to accept. Thank you for this sweet story, it made me smile.
Author's reply
I did wish this piece to reflect the cost to all that came from both Earendil's and Elwing's decisions. Tolkien indicated that Earendil did not wish to accept the life of the Eldar, but that he did so in response to Elwing's decision. At least this way they do have the hope of being reunited with their sons, should, hopefully, both Elrond and Elros also be granted the life of the Eldar. And thank you for letting me know you appreciate it!
Ellynn · 8 January 2012 · Chapter 5: Estel Comes with the Rising of a Star
Aww, wonderful. I love your version of Earendil's and Elwing's voyage towards Valinor. I can feel how much they love each other. I especially like the idea that she felt and saw special signs that had led her actions. The end is really touching. Beautifully written.
Author's reply
I believe there were parallels between the quests of Beren, Earendil, and Frodo and that all three were faced with the knowledge that they might well die while seeking to accomplish their tasks, but accepted this probability, realizing that there were no other workable options at the time. And there had to be a special reason why Elwing did what she did, abandoning her sons to the keeping of those who had been threatening them but a moment earlier. I must believe that she was prompted by Ulmo, the one Vala who loved mankind as the others did the Elves. Only by being willing to offer their own lives could the quests of all three of these heroes be completed, and a new life given each as was necessary and as they deserved. And Elwing and Earendil must have realized that they could NOT return to their sons, and must trust in the Creator to provide for their beloved sons.
eiluj · 8 January 2012 · Chapter 5: Estel Comes with the Rising of a Star
Many intriguing interpretations. And I very much liked your characterization of Elwing and Eärendil.
Author's reply
Oh, I'm so glad you find it intriguing, eiluj. And I feel certain there were many parallels between Earendil, Beren, and Frodo that need to be recognized. Thank you so!
shirebound · 8 January 2012 · Chapter 5: Estel Comes with the Rising of a Star

Oh Larner, this was just beautiful. You've taken two of my favorite characters, Feanaro and Melkor, and placed them into their pivitol meetings with such finesse. I really loved it. - Erulisse (one L)

I so rejoice that this has moved you so! Thanks so much, Erulisse!
