And then they ran into Glorfindel's sword.
They ran into Glorfindel's sword ten times.
Hoo boy are they in trouble. Thankfully, my school doesn't have much have much of a drinking culture. Maybe that's because it's a women's college and we don't have all that testosterone and "frat boy" mentality. I think the worst thing my roommate and I have ever done is go for ice-cream before dinner. XP
Looking forward to the next chapter!

Author's reply
Hi Whispy. LOL! You're too funny. I went to a co-ed college and I remember one particular night where I was shanghaied by some of my dormmates to a local bar. I was not a happy camper the next morning, to say the least. *grin* I think I can count on one hand the number of times I've been drunk in all my 50-odd years. Anyway, I'm glad you're looking forward to the next chapter. It should prove amusing. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. It's very much appreciated.

Findalaurë, and his pals going to get into some serious trouble here with daddy and Glorfindel. However, Alex and Derek, better not use "they are adults" excuse for their own behaviour. I have a feeling that won't wash with either Finrod or Glorfindel. Because Derek, and by default Alex, really did set the Three Amigos up. Although, I admit to LOL in some the things said. Who hasn't done something stupid when you are young and foolish.
Findalaure is really making alot of mistakes and is very rude, with his feeling of being better than the Mortals. Maybe, realizing that Derek and Alex, used his attitude to set him up, might make him eat some humble pie. Although I can't see it helping with the friendship with Alex and Derek.
I think Finrod and Glorfindel need to knock everyone heads together to get them to behave and act like adults who have a serious misson.
Author's reply
Hi Rosealynn. Findalaurë is pretty arrogant and perhaps this little incident will teach him a lesson and help change his attitude and make him more humble (and that goes for the other two as well). As to what excuse Alex and Derek give to Glorfindel and Finrod for what happened and why, we'll find out soon enough. Our two Elf-lords (especially Glorfindel, as we will see) aren't happy with anyone right now.

Durn! The two of them almost made it! I wasn't giggling as hard as I did at Kara's Auntie's latest chapter to "Not Quite a Maia" (on FF.n)--I was laughing out loud as some of George and Fred's creations from Weasley's Wizarding Whizzes were set off on an army of Haradrim and Easterlings--but I definitely have giggled all through this one. Ah, dear--get too many drinks under one's belt, and even gwadors find ancient grievances hard to evade! Love the names--Ellie did well at advising you as to what to name most of them! Heh!
Now--how will Glorfindel and Finrod deal with the situation?
Author's reply
Yeah, it's a pity they didn't get to finish the last drink. *grin* When I was discussing this scene with Ellie and wondering what to call the drinks, I was floored when she came back shortly with a whole list which she made just off the top of her head. There were fourteen drink named, and since there are fifteen Elves living in Wiseman, I added the Fëanorean Fit to round out the list.
As to how Glorfindel and Finrod deal with all this... that will be seen shortly.

I had to laugh at the scene with the money, when each elf looks to find the correct bill. That alone will make them noticeable to everyone around. And then the drinking game... Seems that more than just Alex and Derek know that elves are real. I think the women were very smart to leave the place. Men! The names of the drinks were cute. Derek sums it up beautifully at the end: "I think we are in deep trouble." They are all in trouble. The three elves are probably punished enough by the stupendous hangover they will have (or is the elven healing ability shortening that phase?). But Derek and Alex are not in the clear, either.
Author's reply
Hi obsidanj. There were a lot of funny scenes in this chapter, but I liked the money scene a lot, too. I could so see the expressions of Cal and Alan carefully looking at the bill Alex had pointed out and then going through their own stash trying to find the one that looks just like it, especially when American money is all the same color.
Certainly the three amigos are already being punished with the binge drinking and its effects and we'll see how Alex and Derek and the others with them fare in the next chapter.

I love the scene in the beginning with the alarm ringing and Derek not so eager to get up. Sounds very realistic when I think back to my student days. So, Alex and Derek have the Three Amigos shadowing them. Oh, joy! Just what everyone wanted. They better get their story straight or they are in big trouble. The students at Elf Academy are no dummies.
Author's reply
Hi obsidanj. I well remember those days myself and have modeled the doings (and attitudes) of the students on those memories, figuring many readers would be able to identify with student life, as you obviously do here with the opening scene. And yes, they do need to get their stories straight or they're going to be in a lot of trouble. Thanks for reviewing. It's appreciated.

Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear... And the subconscious comes to the fore yet again when someone is soused. Well, I guess it's better to have those sentiments out in the open now than later. Poor Lawrence - it's horrible to hear something like that from a friend, even if you know they're dead drunk. Maybe they won't remember in the morning? Can't wait to see the reactions to this...
Loved the language interplay and the Alex's improv - what are the odds of someone knowing Swedish AND Finnish! It was also interesting to see how everyone in the bar is reacting to the Elves. I wonder how many students other than Jack have figured out that Elves really do exist.
Author's reply
Hi Lyana. Unfortunately, you're right about that. We'll see what Glorfindel's and Finrod's reactions to all this is in the next chapter.
I'm glad you liked the language interplay and Alex's improv. You could practicaly see him digging the hole deeper and deeper with every word out of his mouth.
And Jack, of course, knows about Elves being a native of Wiseman, and perhaps some of the other students there are also catching on. Theirs wasn't the only group of Academy students there at the bar by any means, since it's a popular hangout for them.

Reminds me a bit of Legolas and Gimli, altough Legolas never got that wasted. In fact, I don't think he got drunk at all. Poor ellyn's. If they think they're sick now, from what I've heard, tomorrow will be worse. (I've never even been high, much less drunk, and don't intend to be.)
Author's reply
Hi Tari. Yes, it does sort of remind one of that particular scene. However, drinking beer is different from drinking mixed drinks, especially these particular drinks, so it's no wonder that the three ellyn are blotto, to put it mildly. *grin* I've only be drunk a few times, and it's not a pleasant feeling aferwards, so you're not missing anything. Oh, Eru! They have only done what 9 out of 10 collage students have done, left their brains at home in the jar by their beds!
I don't think Glorfindal or Finrod will need to come up with a suitable punishment, the Stooges/Amigos heads and stomachs will do it for them! Alex and Derek will come in for a little discussion but I can't see them having too much of a problem! The 'kids' are adults any way! (Snicker!)
Sounds like typical privaliged kids, you see it, you get it and daddy pays the bill. It would have helped a little if somebody had given them a quick lesson in finance, Wiseman style! Do they send their Bar Tabs to the Palace to be payed, surely they had some walking around money?
Oh well, now to get the Three Lushes home and sobered up!
I think somebody needs to come up with a Guide to Living Among Mortals and hand them out to all MME bound Elves to read on the trip over!
Fun one Fiondil,

Author's reply
Hi Lynda. I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter. I think Glorfindel is going to have Daeron write up that guide for the MME-bound Elves. They certainly need it. LOL! And I guess Glorfindel forgot that the ellyn might not have any experience in handling money. They'll have to get used to doing so now. And we'll see how Alex reminds Finrod that the "kids" are indeed adults in the next chapter.

Young male Elves also suffer from testosterone poisoning from time to time, I see. That drinking contest was an incredibly stupid thing to do, and I can understand that both Finrod and Glorfindel are seriously pissed up at the five of them. The three amigos have fashioned their own punishment due to the inevitable effects of getting passed-out drunk.
That doesn't mean they might not get additional punishment, but clearly Alex and Derek are in for it now.
It was really fun to see the young female students glomming onto the three ellyn in the cafeferia. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that they might feel rather hunted soon. It would be interesting to see them fend off the ravening horde - when they are sober again, that is.
Author's reply
Hi Sunny. Yes, incredibly stupid, but typical, and we've all "been there, done that" to one degree or another. Glad I wasn't drinking anything when I got to the "Darrel, and my other brother Darrell" line! And here's a niggle - did Valinor never come up in history classes? Or was that Maiar-induced amnesia for the students to not recognize the name? Or just somebody who missed that class? Inquiring minds and all that... :-)
Ah, Alex - I'm pre-emptively cringing wondering who Findalaure is going to insult next. I can just see him being a jerk about some guy's girlfriend and getting clocked again...
Author's reply
Hi Lyana. Oh, I'm sure they learned about Valinor in class, but maybe they've been taught the Sindarin form _Dor Rodyn_ instead, or maybe Larry pronounced it differently so they didn't catch it, or maybe there was a Maia keeping tabs on the lads and inducing the guys not to pay too much attention, or it could simply be that those listening just assumed Larry was making a joke. Valinor is here in Finland?! LOL
They really need to think of a good backstory for those three, for Valinor doesn't sound anything like a Swedish or Finnish place name (at least to me) and that will be very difficult to explain later if someone starts wondering *grin*.
I don't like Findalaurë's attitude, but the Elves of the older generation seem to be quite happy, and Finrod looks like he's at home. Lovely breakfast scene.
Author's reply
Hi someone. Apparently. LOL! They do need to get their backstory straight or there is going to be a lot of questions asked. The students aren't stupid and some of them are already aware of the existence of Elves.
Findalaurë does have an attitude problem. The older generation, many of whom had once resided in Middle-earth, are indeed quite happy to be there and Finrod probably feels very at home, especially now that he's reunited with Glorfindel. And I'm glad you liked the breakfast scene.

It is going to be hard for everybody, but for the three amigos is going to be harder. I think that I can understand them and at least, they are trying.
Now, reading The Grapes of Wrath, I don't know if that will educate them on seeing kindly to mortals. I mean, it is a classic but so depressing. I read it very young at school and saw the movie, it scared me off of the that period literature. I don't know why they insist junior high to read that, it is not an age that you can appreciate it.
Waiting to see Farrell's next move. And the new adventures of the Valinor elves, I can't wait to see their reactions to the new world.
Author's reply
Hi Fantasia. It's going to be very hard on a lot of people. I suspect that the ellon just picked out a book at random. It could've been any book in the room. I agree with you that some of the classics we were forced to read in school were really not appropriate for that age group and on top of that they were usually very boring.
We'll be seeing what Farrell's up to eventually. For now, we're concentrating on how Glorfindel and the others try to integrate the new arrivals and especially how Alex and Derek handle the three amigos.

Heh. It looks like the proud princeling and his pals aren't used to seeing the princeling's dad engaged in such un-princely activities as making breakfast. But it makes me wonder if said princeling and his pals are the sort of ellyn who would starve to death in a well-stocked kitchen. If so, they are going to need a quick education in homey, everyday activities. And if they are picky eaters, I also hope they will learn to be more accepting of foreign (to the) cuisine.
They had better also learn to listen to what Alex says, but given Lawrence's attitude, it is likely that they are going to land in a fair amount of trouble before they learn sense. And they'd better start calling Alex by his name, instead of calling him "Mortal" all the time!
So the men were thronging around the three new additions to the scene. But I wonder - where were the girls??? Perhaps they just are planning their attack? Or perhaps they are just portioning out the prospective spoils already. Tee-hee. I can see that even the gals who like them dark-haired will line up for a chance at the blonde bombshell.
The newcomers are definitely going t attract attention. Hopefully, they are going to be able to limit it, but if they are able to enlist some of their allies to help out a bit, perhaps it will be manageable.
Hmm. I don't really see Nielluin as a Nell - she has too much of her mother in her for that IMO. I suspect she is going to take to the modern world like a fish to water. I bet she is going to think it is deeply unfair for the boys to go to the Academy, and it is going to be interesting to see if she is also going to maneuver herself into the Academy. She definitely isn't the type to sit at home doing embroidery!
Now what is Farrell up to? And what is going on at the Agency? The silence is worrisome!
Author's reply
Hi Sunny. Well, it's up for grabs whether Findalaurë is shocked to see Dad dishing out fruit or dressed as he is. *grin*
I'm sure the ellith are around somewhere. Probably being shown other ameniites by the Wiseman ellith while their men-folk play in the kitchen.
As for Nielluin being Nell, you have to admit that the Mortal name is very similar in sound to her actual name, so it's natural to call her that. She seems to like it, so I doubt she'll want to change it to something else. *grin*

Why do I have this strong urge to Gibbs Smack a certain Elf? The first thing Larry has to learn is to keep his mouth shut, he is their to observe not be observed.
I think both Della and Amroth need to be well away from Wiseman until they have Ratty sorted out, that Alex has not heard from Matty is disturbing. Della needs to find some pretty Hatching Jackets, if she is anything like my daughter she is going to be bigger than a whale by the time she delivers! Anything that helps to disguise the bump and makes her feel comfortable is essential.
Seems to me Findalure has never had to 'do' for himself, I wonder if Atto ever took him camping and had him help with all the work that is involved?
Something tells me somebody is a picky eater going by the remark Larry made!
Well now to go find apartmentrs for the influx of Elves and see how the 'Pilot Program' goes, I can see rough waters ahead, espiecially with Big Mouth Larry along!

Hi Lynda. I'm afraid Findalaurë is too much the noble and who knows what kind of an environment he grew up in? I suspect one of the reasons Finrod brought him and not his other children was to teach him about independence without servants doing everything for him. The title had me snorting into my coffee. But it is fitting. These 3 need to learn a lot. And what was Findalaure thinking? He reminds me of a boy in the middle of puberty. Spouting things in the heat of the moment, without really thinking about what he is saying (at least I hope that he wouldn't have said that in a less confrontational setting). Taking away their swords and making them serve the humans was a fitting punishment. Let's just hope they learn fast. I don't think they have yeni to see the errors of their ways.
Author's reply
Hi obsidanj. Yes, the title is indeed fitting. As Finrod points out, his son (and the other two) are very young in experience if not in age and so we see them and Findalaurë especially as being less than politic in their attitudes. Beleg and Legolas are there, too! Yay! That's getting better and better! (And it calls for an archery contest somewhere down the road).
Oh, we have descendants of Beleg and Sador and Alassiel, too! Great! But the biggest surprise was most definitely Nielluin. Who'd have thought Galadriel and Celeborn would give Celebrían a little sister, even if it wasn't exactly planned? The faces of Elrohir and Elladan must have been priceless!
And what a smart one! When I did read her first words, I somehow stumbled over them and went to re-read them – until I realised what was wrong with them: That nothing was wrong, lol!
Looks like Glorfindel shouldn't have said so loudly that he and Daeron are too old for a relationship *grin* They just hadn't found the right ellith – yet!
It's fun to find out who else has come – and to find out who's a descendant of whom. Already started a new list to keep track of original names, ancestry and – later – 'mortal' name to keep track of the new Elves. Though I have to admit, to keep the generations straight is going to be hard. Not going to try another family tree, lol.
Talking with the new Elves about what to expect was a good idea. Their own world is still pretty medieval and formal, as it seems, so they need to know that our times, and America maybe even more so, are very different in some regards. Our times are so much less respectful of their elders and more indepedent than they are used too.
Just wondering ... if they can get Amroth off the hook and then Alex out of the Agency as well, maybe they could make use of Alex and Derek's special knowledge and talents to protect the Academy better? And besides, they now have a good number of additional Elven warriors at hand. They may not know anything about modern day weapons, but they should still be good at sneaking up on enemies or even taking them out in some way, if necessary.
Pity the three stooges didn't hear what Vorondur said, maybe that would give them something to think about. And I am glad the two Mortals got along so well with the older Elves.
Let's hope the three can behave overnight. And they're going to be quite amazed about what the Mortals have achieved, I suspect. They were impressed by just driving through Wiseman, apparently. Now I have to wonder how it is going to work to introduce them to modern electronic equipment and all that! Electric light, computers ... and even modern-day bathrooms have some suprprises in store for them, from the looks of it. Should do something to teach them humility, I hope.
Author's reply
Hi Kitty. I figured people would be happy to see Beleg and Legolas again. And we get the other Legolas as well and there are several others who are known to readers of my stories, though we won't know who they all are immediately, so keep the list handy; you'll need it.

*snicker* You mean 'van' means 'goose'? Now that's a word I'm likely to remember easily, even if Quenya and Sindarin aren't exactly my strong suit!
Glad to see that Derek and, even more so, Alex are alright. Really had been worried that Alex would end up with pneumonia or something, knowing you!
Findalaurë really did it! Arrogant little toerag! The way he spoke about why they hid in the woods made me quite angry – no wonder Alex wanted to go and give him a good punch!
Was it worth it?!? God, did that elfling learn anything about history? How could he be so callous about the death of his own father? And what did he expect, for heaven's sake? How does one look particularly heroic? Besides, the Elves have their share of heroes, too – do all Elves look heroic? That brat needs some common sense, really.
Hm, to just take their weapons seemed not enough of a punishment at first, but when I considered what the swords mean for them, it fit quite well, actually. They think they are something better because they wear weapons, so to take them away is a good way to tell them they're not worthy of that honour. That the Mortals got to decide when they get their weapons back was the icing on the cake – and that they were forced to serve them. Hopefully they will learn something from that, not end up resenting the Mortals even more. Particularly Findalaurë; the other two appear to be a bit more sensible.
Author's reply
Hi Kitty. Yeah, "van" means "goose". In fact, in Elf, Interrupted, Finrod calls Glorfindel "pityavan" or "little goose".
Anyway, Findalaurë is indeed an arrogant little toerag and I think a disappointment to his dad right now. Hopefully, he is not beyond redemption.
